CHARLES RIVER PLAZA
+ SITE KEY MAP
The Charles river esplanade is one of the phenomenal aspects of the Boston’s landscape, but with a critical network of the metropolitan transportation on the side. The challenge for the project is to utilize design to balance the urban uses and environmental conservation.
+ GENERAL SITE PROBLEM
01. LANDSCAPE
+ DESIGN ANLYSIS
+ Landscapes defines the location of the intervantion, as well as the future landscpae layout. Different catgories of landscapes (left) & disconnection of the public spaces (above).
02. FLOODING CONCERN
+ With the research projection suggests the flooding concern in 2030 at 21 inches (left) & 2050-2070 at 36 inches (above) raises the design intent of the intervention. Not only being a tourist center at most of the time, but it could act as a barrier when the emergence is needed.
03. ACCESSIBILITY
+ The site’s limited connections alongside with heavy traffic lanes make the waterfront difficult to access.
04. TRANSPORTATION
+ Bike path (left) & Traffic lanes (above) recoginized as one the major problem of the site circulation, which makes the site being very isolocated.
+ DESIGN LAYOUT
01. AXIS OF INTERESTS / CITY GRID
The elements of the Esplanade deploys potential for programmed hard infrastructures and soft landscapes to form a link from the city. At the same time, it may also provides presences for varies of extension back to city, draws attention of people to the very edge of city yet heart of beauty.
02. WETLAND / WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM INTO PUBLIC AMENITIES
