CHRIS CLAYTON The tournament season in New England has come and gone, and now our focus transitions to planning and building for 2018. With the 2017 season officially in the books, I would like to take the time to reflect back a bit on the year, my first as the head of the New England Series.
Although the New England Series at its core is focused on the game of golf, it is also a place to develop and build friendships, something I certainly enjoyed doing myself. This year, the New England Series saw its membership grow to over 300 members for the first time, 320 to be exact, and while I was able to see some more than others, it was certainly a pleasure to meet and talk with each and every one of you. From the many different stories I heard from our members, to the wide-variety of backgrounds , and all the laughs in between, it certainly made my job this season even more enjoyable each day.
surpass that number, giving our entire membership a chance to play at a wide variety of private facilities in the region.
With one year running the New England Series under my belt, I can’t wait to dive in to year two, and make it even better than the last. I am extremely excited about the schedule we have in 2018. From mainstays to new additions, the expansive list is certainly our best to date. Make sure you check it out at newenglandseries.com if you haven’t had a chance to yet.
Lastly, I am always open to new thoughts and ideas going forward. If there is something on your mind, whatever it may be, please share it with me. We are always looking for new ways to expand and improve the New England Series going forward, and we would love to hear what you think.
“From the many different stories I heard from our members, to the wide-variety of backgrounds, and all the laughs in between, it certainly made my job this season even more enjoyable each day.”
I’d also like to take a moment to thank all those that participated in a New England Series event this season. Without your continued support, we would not be able to grow from where the Series started, to the point where we are at now. Last season, we held 27 events throughout the duration of the year, our most to date, and in 2018 we plan to
Happy New Year to all of you and your families,
Chris Clayton

Another Win for David Holmes Finally, the New England Series members were greeted by blue skies and sun as they took on the magnificent Shelter Harbor Golf Club. One of the largest turnouts of the season brought with it some outstanding scores, and event better competition. For the second time this season, David Holmes impressed with a low score, and took home 1st as the Overall winner for the day. Holmes nearly turned in a clean scorecard, with his only blemishes coming on the 2nd & 3rd holes where he made consecutive bogeys. The long par-5 1st hole yielded Holmes' first birdie of the day, and he added another on the par-4 13th. What about the other 14 holes you might ask? Fourteen pars, featuring a run of fifteen consecutive holes with a score of par or better. It all added up to an even par 71, best of the day. Both Frank Lupafya and Dan Dunnigan finished with impressive rounds as well, as they finished tied for 2nd at 74 (+3). Lupafya rolled in 5(!) birdies in his round on holes 2, 4, 7, 9, & 12. A 3-under front nine had eyes turning, but was unfortunately washed away by an 8 on the difficult par-4 10th. Dunnigan added in 3 birdies of his own, holes 1,, 11, & 12, which helped offset some bogeys mixed in throughout the day. In his second event of the season, David Knipe put together a 75 (+4) on his way to winning the Men's Senior Division. A birdie on the opening hole of the day, and a slew of twelve pars helped Knipe stay even keel for the day. Tom Dwyer (76) and Rick Cuozzo (77) finished right on Knipe's heels, and rounded out the top-3. Thank you to all of the Shelter Harbor staff and Head Professional, Dave Tiedemann, PGA for an outstanding day. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for being a partner with the New England Series all season! The next New England Series event is on Monday, May 22nd at The Carnegie Abbey Club
Chris Adamo Takes Home His 1st Win Monday's event at Weston Golf Club featured spectacular weather conditions, and even more impressive rounds. With a field of over 80 players teeing it up to take on the 6,200 yard Donald Ross design, it would take a very disciplined round to rise to the top. No player did so better than Chris Adamo, who played exceptionally well, and turned in a 74 (+2) to win his first tournament of the season. Adamo took advantage of the par-5's throughout the day, rolling in two birdies, one on the 6th, and another on the short 18th to close out his round. A strong start featuring pars on 4 of his first 5 holes allowed Adamo to establish an early rhythm, and from there, play consistently to finish. In his second event of the season, he quickly turned around his play from a tough round at Worcester CC, to put himself back on top. Adamo was not alone in his solid play, as five other players broke 80 in their rounds to crack the top-5. David Holmes finished solo second with his 75 (+3), followed by Tim Flynn who finished third with an impressive 76 (+4). To round out the top-5, Rey Lemaine, Craig Briggs, and David Fogg all shot 78 (+6). In the Net-Stableford division, Jack Flynn and Stephen Ohki both turned in impressive scores to finish T1st with 43 points. After a card-off, Flynn was able to take home the contest for the first time this season. Following up behind Flynn and Ohki were Stu Thompson (42 points), Seamus O'Neill (41 points), and Duane Jellison (40 points.) Thank you to all of the Weston Golf Club staff and Head Professional, Adam Hemeon, PGA, for an outstanding day. An additional thank you to Lincoln Motorcars for their on site support for the day. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for being a partner with the New England Series all season long! The next New England Series event is Monday, July 10th at Thorny Lea.

Nik Kroisi Leads the Way Back by popular demand, Kernwood Country Club returned to the New England Series schedule for the 2017 season. The Donald Ross designed par-70 layout features a bevy of fantastic holes, a few which dawn fantastic views of the coastside. With a slope of 130, players knew coming in they had a tough track laid out in front of them. However, Nik Kroisi apparently did not see the task as all that hard. His round of 74 left him T-1st for the day, and became the winning score after a card-off officially gave him the Low Gross title for the day. Right out of the gate, Kroisi converted birdie on the first hole, a short par 5. After his birdie, a few bogeys on his way to the turn left him +2 (37). Playing in the same group as David Holmes, runner-up for the day, Kroisi knew how well he'd have to play in order to win. Holmes equally turned at +2, and it was anyone's game from there. Battling back and forth, Kroisi made back to back birdies on 15 & 16 that ultimately put him to the top of the pack. Holmes himself added a birdie on 13 and played solid throughout to card his 74 (+4). In the Net Division, Seamus O'Neill played outstanding. Beating his given handicap by 4 shots and turning in Net 66 (-4). Birdies on 2, 9, 11 & 13 were impressive to say the least, and helped guide him to the top of the pack. His Gross round of 75 finished just one shot back of first for the day itself! Thank you to the entire Kernwood Country Club staff and Head Professional, Frank Dully, PGA for hosting. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines & Lincoln Motorcars for their partnership with the New England Series and their on-site visits. Our next New England Series event is Monday, October 16th @ Eastward Ho! CC.
Rich Manning wins at WCC Winter is coming, and it was certainly felt early on at Wannamoisett. Low overnight temps led to the first frost-delay of the season, which allowed players a little extra time to get in the swing of things before Tuesday's round. Rich Manning took full advantage of that extra time, and dropped the low number for the day at WCC. Manning started out with a bogey on the second hole of the day, a challenging par-4, but recovered quickly with a great birdie on number 3, a short par-3. With just one more bogey on his front-9, Manning turned with a 36 and was in good position for his second half of the day. He struggled a bit on the back side, but parred 5 of his last 6 holes to keep it together, ultimately firing a 74 (+5). Just behind him was Tim Flynn who added another impressive round this season. His consistent play throughout most of the day was met with just one slip-up at the par-4 16th, where he made a double-bogey. However, he was able to follow it up with a good birdie on 17, a par-5, on his way to a 75 (+6), finishing just one shot back of Manning. In the Senior Division, Jeff Spinks was the low of the day, with a 78 (+9). Two birdies on the back side helped bring his back to the lead after struggling early, making a triple on the par-4 7th. He commented after the round how his one mistake led to a round that could have been leaps & bounds better. Just behind him, finishing second, was Neil Coutu, who himself had an interesting round. Cruising along with 6 pars in a row to begin his round, Coutu was feeling good. Then the tricky 7th snuck up on him, as he made a hurtful 9. He managed to grind through the rest of the day, but a few bogeys coming in ultimately led to his second place finish. Thank you to all of the Wannamoisett Country Club staff and Head Professional, Brad McCluski, PGA. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for being a partner with the New England Series all season
