An extraordinary walk from Villa Olmo to Villa Sucota, passing through Villa del Grumello. It’s the incomparable pedestrian route opened in 2016, which connects the three prestigious villas facing over Lake Como, passing through the paths in their respective parks with greenhouses, chapels, lemon trees and botanic rarities. A natural path which links not only 17 hecatares of secular parks of rare beauty and a beautiful landscape, but also of some cultural, historical and artistical value, based on creativity and on the sharing of cultural, entrepreneurial initiatives of high formation and of scientific research.We set off from Villa Olmo, the most important villa among many dating back Una straordinaria passeggiata da Villa Olmo a Villa Sucota, passando per Villa del Grumello. È l’incomparabile percorso pedonale aperto nel 2016 che unisce le tre prestigiose ville che si affacciano sul Lago di Como, passando attraverso i sentieri nei rispettivi parchi punteggiati da serre, cappelle, limonaie, opere d’arte e rarità botaniche. Una strada naturalistica che riunisce 17 ettari di parchi secolari di rara bellezza e pregio paesaggistico ma anche un unicum culturale, storico-artistico, basato sulla creatività e sulla condivisione di iniziative culturali, imprenditoriali, di alta formazione e di ricerca scientifica.

Unico al mondo il Museo della Seta nasce nel 1990 per illustrare la storia del ciclo completo di lavorazione del tessuto di seta, dall’allevamento del baco alla nobilitazione con un considerevole patrimonio di macchine e strumenti funzionanti, in uso tra il 1850 e il 1960. Il Museo custodisce archivio digitale, biblioteca, fotografie d’epoca, collezioni di abiti e accessori a testimonianza della creatività e della produzione serica - ancora oggi in piena attività - che hanno influenzato lo sviluppo sociale e urbano di Como.

Unique to the world, the Como Silk Museum opened in 1990 to illustrate the history of the complete cycle of silk production, from the silkworm rearing process to the ennobling phase. The story is told via a comprehensive display of working machinery and instruments that would have been in use between 1850 and 1960. The museum’s digital archive, library, historical photographs, garments and accessory collections bear witness to the creativity of silk production– still in full swing – that has influenced the social and urban development of Como.

Si parte da Villa Olmo, la più importante tra le molte ville sette e ottocentesche che caratterizzano il bacino comasco del Lario. In stile neoclassico tipicamente lombardo è stata costruita a partire dal 1782 per la famiglia degli Odescalchi su progetto dell’architetto ticinese Simone Cantoni. Al parco romantico si accede attraversando due aperture laterali, al fianco della Villa. Passando tra cedri del Libano, ippocastani e platani si raggiunge il Ponte del chilometro, un ponte pedonale realizzato nel 2012 dalla Camera di Commercio di Como, lungo 42 metri a un’unica campata che conduce alle Serre e a Villa del Grumello che, nei documenti del XV secolo era un rustico su due piani, contornato da una vigna, da un prato e da un ricco frutteto con noci e castagni. On the side of the villa, two side openings lead off to the romantic park. Going through the cedars of Lebanon, horse-chestnuts and plane trees you can reach the kilometer Bridge, a pedestrian bridge built in 2012 by the Chamber of Commerce in Como, 42 metres long in a single aisle leading to Serre and Villa del Grumello, which was a farm building made of two floors surrounded by a vineyard, a lawn and a rich orchard with walnuts and chestnuts in XV century. by a bust placed in the garden. The park, from where you can have beautiful glimpses over the first basin of Lake Como and of the city, is really beutiful. It has many valuable plants such as yews, beech trees, sequoias and a centenary exemplar of Ginko Biloba which was beloved by all the owners of Villa del Grumello. In the park you can follow three paths: those dedicated to Paolo Giovio and Ugo Foscolo, and that one dedicated to Paul Celesia, which was completed with the opening of a panoramic connection with Villa Sucota, enlarging the walk that characterizes the Chilometro della Conoscenza and letting you cross the park of Grumello on different e ospitò illustri personaggi, tra cui Vincenzo Monti, Alessandro Volta e soprattutto Ugo Foscolo, le cui frequenti visite alla famiglia Giovio sono ricordate da un busto collocato nel giardino. Di particolare rilievo è il parco, da cui si hanno scorci bellissimi sul primo bacino del lago di Como e della città. Presenta numerose piante di pregio, come tassi, faggi, sequoie e un esemplare centenario di Ginko Biloba e fu caro a tutti i proprietari della Villa del Grumello. VILLA OLMO

Uno splendido edificio in stile vittoriano, con l’eleganza neoclassica che si sposa al grande giardino all’inglese e un “parterre” mozzafiato ad ingresso della villa. Dentro, affreschi e bassorilievi, arredi d’epoca e il fascino di una dimora nobiliare d’altri tempi. Questo e molto altro è Villa Olmo a Como, recentemente ristrutturata grazie al progetto “Tra ville e giardini del lago di Como. Navigare nella conoscenza”. Si tratta di un percorso articolato per riqualificare i compendi di Villa Olmo e di Villa Saporiti (di proprietà pubblica). Per quanto riguarda il Parco è in corso un importante intervento di riqualificazione con la creazione di un enorme Orto botanico. Fra fine giugno e inizio luglio l’apertura al pubblico. Per chi ama l’architettura e l’arte dei secoli ‘700-’800, ma anche per chi vuole godersi una passeggiata con panorama lacustre da una posizione privilegiata, è una méta da non perdere. Oggi sono accessibili le varie strutture della Villa: il padiglione della musica, la limonaia, il belvedere, la cappella e le serre. È possibile percorrere nuovamente i diversi tracciati, che conducono il visitatore alla scoperta delle specie botaniche, delle vedute paesaggistiche e delle opere d’arte contemporanea create appositamente per il parco da artisti che hanno collaborato negli anni con la FAR: come Gerry Bibby, Jimmie Durham, Liliana Moro, Richard Nonas e Matt Mullican. Il parco è sede di attività culturali per tutta la stagione primaverile e autunnale mentre la Villa ospita mostre tematiche che valorizzano la collezione tessile della Fondazione e opere di artisti contemporanei.
