No car? No problem! Newark is one of the most public transit friendly cities in the country. LIGHT RAIL (Newark subway) If walking isn’t your thing, the light rail can shuttle you around downtown and even into other parts of Newark, like Branch Brook Park. PATH TRAINS For $2.75, the PATH can take you to Jersey City, Hoboken and even New York. The Newark PATH line goes directly into World Trade Center or you can change in Jersey City for other NYC stops. NJ TRANSIT NJ Transit trains & buses criss cross the city, county and state and into New York. Visit njtransit.com for lines & schedules. Commuting students should check out the Student Pass for discounts (see inside backcover for details). CROSS STATE LINES If you’re trying to get to Boston, Philly or DC - Newark is a stop for Amtrak or get cheap seats (as low as a few bucks) on Bolt Bus, which leaves from Newark Penn. BIKING There are new bike lanes around town and even a shop, The Bike Exchange (239 Washington St.) which sells gently used bikes and equipment.
Free wi-fi OPEN AIR Downtown is now connected! From Broad & Market to the Rutgers Business School (1 Washington Park) you can get access to high speed internet for FREE. Look for NewarkNet_Free - no need to log-in or sign-up for it either. This gives you access in the parks, on Halsey Street and more.
