Work, Rest and Play You will find plenty of resources at New College Stamford from the traditional library to high specification computers. Everywhere is user friendly and well-stocked with everything you need to assist you with research and gathering of materials for assignments.
The Learning Resource Centre The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provides everything needed to support your studies. It includes over 15,500 catalogue items including books, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, cameras and more. Students also have access to a wide range of online resources including e-books and e-journals. The area offers a range of study spaces, with dedicated group and silent study rooms, and access to bookable computers including a dedicated computer zone for university level students. Information Technology We offer outstanding IT facilities. With a total of over 1200 computers across the College, purely for student use. The IT Zone and LRC together have 68 computers available to students whilst computer suites in each department are tailored to your needs, and mobile laptop suites deliver greater flexibility for staff and students. Creative Arts Centre Our Creative Arts Centre has a specifically equipped life drawing room, photographic studio, 3D workshops and Apple Macintosh suites. Food and Drink The Refectory is open from early morning until mid-afternoon serving fresh meals, snacks and drinks at very reasonable prices. There is also the Bistro – a bright and airy space that provides the perfect spot for a lighter meal or catch up with friends over coffee and cake. The Gallery Restaurant is a great alternative, away from the hustle and
bustle and offers a more formal dining experience Wednesday to Friday lunchtimes. Freshly baked pastries, cakes and breads are also available from The Gallery Shop. The Penny Lane Shop is run by our Skills for Work and Living students, and sells newspapers and magazines as well

Here to Support You
Here to Support You During your first few weeks in College we will get to know you and find out about the skills you have, and if you need extra help in order to successfully complete your course. If you need extra help with literacy, numeracy, exam skills, writing an assignment or any other challenge that may be worrying you, we will arrange support in the classroom or on a oneto-one basis in the Study Centre as required. We may also help you to apply for a Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) if appropriate. We welcome applications from students who may need some extra help because they have a learning difficulty or a disability. If you know you have a learning or physical disability, or think you may have, don’t let that stop you doing the course you want to do. We have experienced staff who will work with you and your course tutors to ensure that you get the support you need. You will have the chance to speak with our Disability Adviser if you wish at your interview. Careers Guidance and Advice This is a very important aspect of support for all our students. Our qualified and experienced Careers and HE Co-ordinator holds individual careers interviews as well as offering you information on a range of things including applying for graduate training schemes, job advice and CV writing.
Personal Counselling College Counsellors are available during the day on an appointment or drop-in basis. They offer one-to-one private counselling about issues that may be affecting you. It could be concerns about college work, family relationships, personal relationships, self-esteem or a host of other problems – everything is dealt with in a friendly and confidential manner.

Financial Support
Financial Support
Tuition fees do not have to be paid ‘up front’. All students are eligible to take out a student loan to cover the whole tuition course fee over the duration of your course. Applying for Student Finance The Government student loans company ‘Student Finance England’ facilitates the allocation and repayment of loans to university level course students in the UK. There are a few financial packages available that could help you pay for the costs of studying. These include: Tuition Fee Loan A loan that covers the full cost of tuition fees over the duration of your course. Your fees are paid directly from Student Finance England so please ensure that you apply to them on time. Maintenance Loan A loan to help with living costs. Students from lower income households may be eligible for more.
Maintenance Grant A grant of up to £3,387 per year is available to lower income households. You do not have to pay this back. If your household income is under £25,000 you will get the full grant. Households with incomes between £25,000 and £42,620 will get a proportion of the grant. If you need to apply for a tuition fee loan, maintenance loan, and/or maintenance grant simply log on to https://www.gov.uk/applyonline-for-student-finance and complete the form. You can apply online as soon as you have applied to us.

Tuition Fees For UK and EU students applying for a full-time university level course at New College Stamford starting in September 2015, the tuition fee will be £6,500 per annum for most courses. Fees for part-time courses differ – please contact us for details.
Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Local Education Authorities (LEAs) can award DSAs to part-time and full-time undergraduate students who can show that they have a disability, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty that affects their ability to study. The DSA helps pay for any extra costs as a direct result of your learning disability or learning difficulty. The allowance can help with the cost of a non-medical personal helper, items of specialist equipment, travel and other course-related costs. Additional Support You could be eligible for more financial support if you have a disability or learning difficulty or if you have adults or children who are dependent on you.

HNC in Animal Management This course is validated by Pearson Edexcel Institute code: N33 • NCS Course code: HCANMAP This course provides a solid introduction to animal welfare and business management and is ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in the animal welfare or animal health sector. Content Modules you will typically cover include: • Business Environment • Animal Husbandry Management • Animal Health and Welfare • Research Project • Anatomy and Physiology • Principles of Ecology • Exotics and the Pet Trade • Animal Nutrition Assessment A range of assessment methods will be used including presentations, academic essays and workbased projects.
Progression and career opportunities This programme is an ideal entry route in to animal welfare related careers such as animal behaviour and training, animal charities, animal collections and the retail sector. 60% of students who studied the HNC are now employed in the animal industry including in pet shops, boarding kennels, farms and as an Animal Technician in an FE College.

The HND in Animal Management aims not only to provide a solid in-depth introduction to animal welfare and management, but in such a competitive industry, this course meets the employer demands for a dynamic, analytical and technically skilled employee.

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design This course is validated by Edexcel Institution code: N33 • NCS Course code: DPFADAP This course provides a broad introduction to art and design, preparing you for application to university level courses. We offer a friendly and supportive environment in which to develop your abilities, appraise your strengths and develop your ideas and skills. We will also enable you to define and make decisions about your future career aspirations. Content The programme aims to develop your independent creative thinking skills, allowing you to take concepts and explore the possibilities through a range of visual and craft processes. As the course progresses, your study becomes more focused to your specialist area of choice. Specialisms include visual studies, 3D studies, graphics, illustration, spatial design, printmaking, photography, film, fashion and textiles. The course is characterised by experimental and experiential learning, enriched with a variety of project linked visits, including a five day residential in a European city, and a comprehensive liberal studies programme. Visiting speakers from a wide range of professional backgrounds ensure that students are aware of the demands of art and design, and recognise the common principles and distinctive characteristics of subject disciplines enabling you to make informed career choices. A high value is placed on independent research and selfmotivated study.
Progression and career opportunities The Foundation course at New College Stamford has an enviable reputation for excellence. The course has achieved high rates of progression, with many students being accepted on to high calibre degree courses, at prominent universities, to study a variety of specialist subjects. Extra information It is the preferred qualification for most art based university courses, and the majority of top universities still require this qualification. Statistically students acquiring the Foundation Diploma are far more likely to complete an arts degree than those without.

Foundation Degree in Contemporary Fine Art Practice This Course is validated by the University of Bedfordshire (UOB) UCAS code: W190 • Institution code: N33 • NCS Course code: FNCAPAP This Fine Art course develops your application of contemporary new media, through a range of work practice opportunities in contemporary creative industries which will prepare you to progress on to further study or work.
You will be supported in developing a personal body of work, in a specific area of study, by experienced lecturers and practising artists. This is a Fine Art course that concentrates on the image developed and supported by both material and virtual media. Fundamentally this course represents an in-depth examination of contemporary drawing practice and uses drawing as a core activity in art and design. It aims to establish highly creative, next generation photo imaging professionals centring on contemporary editorial fashion and documentary image making. Content The course initially introduces the fundamental principles associated with a broad range of both analogue and digital equipment, materials, techniques and processes. Throughout the course opportunities exist to develop and refine a more personal approach to image making and explore relationships that exist within wider commercial markets. Significant emphasis is placed on guided independent study. Importance is also placed on developing a personal visual/photographic language and understanding of the aesthetic qualities associated with photography within a broad cultural and historical context. Industrial relevance is maintained through valuable industrial engagement and high quality visiting speakers. The course culminates in a showcase of professionally orientated work both locally and nationally.
Assessment A range of assessment methods will be used, including presentations, academic essays and work-based projects. Additional information You will be expected to demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of general art and design practice at interview, as well as ability to contextualise your own work within a broad historical and cultural context. Some awareness of related industrial practice should also be demonstrated through a portfolio review. Foundation Degree in Applied Studies (Early Childhood) This course is for adults working, volunteering or leading within children’s services across a range of settings and provisions. This work-based course combines practice-based learning and campus-based sessions once a week, so that you are able to continue in employment. It is designed to improve and develop your personal and professional communication skills, to develop knowledge of new ways of working and to challenge existing assumptions. This Early Childhood course has been fully recognised by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) as appropriate for early years practitioners.
