“If it wasn’t for my supportive teachers at New College Stamford, I wouldn’t be studying Education at DeMontfort University Leicester today. Even though I was studying Business, my teacher saw and told me what great leadership skills I had and suggested I go into teaching. So here I am starting year three of uni. It was through the great teaching and support of the teachers that I got the results I needed to get where I am today.” Sophie Hall, former New College Stamford Business student

Qualifications A Level Studying for A Levels will give you the broad knowledge base to continue to university to study at a higher level. A Level study is traditionally an academic, theory based route, however New College Stamford prides itself on the modern approach to A Level delivery with the inclusion of practical elements, live project and community work. If you choose to study A Levels with us, you will choose 4 AS Levels in the first year of your study. Students will then normally, drop 1 AS Level and continue the second year of study with 3 A2 Levels. This means that you will leave us with 3 A Levels and 1 AS Level ready for the next step to university or into employment. Vocational (Work-related) Vocational, or work-related qualifications are courses that allow you to gain the practical skills and knowledge to progress straight into your chosen industry. Although, many students at Level 3 progress on to higher education at university or college. They suit students who either know the career path they’d like to take (e.g. hairdressing, catering) or students who prefer to learn in a hands on way and enjoy learning new skills that will prepare them for industry. Within the vocational area of the College students can choose from a number of different levels, depending on the qualifications already held.
Apprenticeships If you know you want to carry on studying and gaining qualifications along the way, but you’re also ready to get out into the work place to start working and earning money, then an Apprenticeship is the perfect solution for you! Apprentices learn on the job, building up their knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time. You will work towards a workbased qualification such as an NVQ and 01780 484311 | enquiries@stamford.ac.uk

other nationally recognised qualifications. You may think of Apprenticeships as ‘day release’ where you would come to college one day a week, this is the case for some of the Apprenticeships but not always. The theoretical based elements of the course can often be taught in your work place, which means you don’t have to come to college one day a week.
In addition to this you obviously get the qualifications and training for free! For more information visit www.apprenticeships.org.uk

Josh Murray, AS Level Sociology
MAKE IT GREAT
“Studying Sociology was an interesting experience for me. With little knowledge about the subject itself, I went in blind, and since my first lesson I haven’t looked back. I have been able to gain a better understanding on the huge topic of society and how different situations in life affects people’s attitudes. The subject is great, to see how people interact with each other and how different aspects of society influence our own behaviour, sometimes without us knowing. I have really enjoyed this subject and even though it was my last choice I’m so glad I picked it.”
