Qualifications A Levels Studying A Levels will give you a broad knowledge base to be able to continue to university. Although A Levels are traditionally an academic, theory based route, we pride ourselves on our modern approach and inclusion of practical elements, live projects and community work.
Vocational Vocational qualifications are practical courses which allow you to gain the skills and knowledge to progress straight to industry. If you know the career path you’d like to take, or you prefer to learn in a hands on way – this is the route for you! There are a variety of starting points and levels available to you, and you can also still go to university after completing a Level 3 qualification.
English and Maths

It is mandatory for all students to continue to study English and maths whilst working towards their main qualification. If you have not achieved an A*-C in GCSE English and maths your course will include either a GCSE or Functional Skill* in English and maths as appropriate to enable you to achieve. Students studying at Level 3 including A Levels will also be required to study a Core Maths qualification if they have achieved a maths GCSE grade C.
If you have: 4 GCSEs at grades D or above including English and maths • A Level 1 qualification. Progress to: Level 3 • Employment • Advanced Apprenticeship.
3 – LEVEL 3 If you have: 5 GCSEs at grades C or above including English and maths • A Merit at Level 2. Progress to: University • Employment • Higher Apprenticeship.

*Functional Skills – These are practical qualifications in English, maths and ICT at both Level 1 and 2 which are assessed at the end of your studies through task-based scenario questions. • CUSTOMER SERVICE Duration Typically 12 to 18 months but can be up to 24 for plumbing and 48 for electrical. Wage The wage you will earn is set by the government at £2.68 per hour (October 2013), but many employers pay more. Progression Progressing through the levels available could lead to permanent employment, promotion, pay rises or a place at university.
Entry Requirements Entry is dependent on the level you are undertaking and the industry you are entering. You will need to show you are committed, responsible, happy to work in a team, as well as using your own initiative. Apply You can apply for an Apprenticeship at any time of the year, but you need to source your work placement to get started which we can help you with.
With a variety of subjects and levels to choose from there is something for everyone, and if you’re still not ready, Traineeships are perfect stepping stones to get you where you want to be.

The Learning Resource Centre Food and Drink The LRC provides everything needed to support your studies, including books, magazines, newspapers, online resources, cameras and more. The area offers a range of study spaces, with dedicated group and silent study rooms and access to bookable computers.
IT You’ll have access to over 1,100 laptops and computers including 110 Apple Macs for use in lessons, group work and private study. There are 25 multi-functional printers for scanning, copying and printing including remote access for you to submit print jobs to the College, from your own computer, in your own home! Plus, we provide super-fast wi-ďŹ so you can bring your own devices or connect your smart phone for study and research.

Here to Support You We provide advice and support with any aspect of your learning to ensure you are successful in your studies here. Personal Tutor You will be allocated a Personal Tutor – a highly qualified and experienced staff member to guide you through your course. They will be your first point of contact to help you manage your time, develop your study skills and build your confidence. They will also liaise with your parents and other staff members to ensure you succeed at College. The Learner Voice The College is committed to promoting the Learner Voice. The best way for you to have your say and be heard is to become a Class Representative. You can find out more from your Personal Tutor. You can also have your say in the Student Union. The Student Union You will automatically become a member of the union when you enrol. The Student Union will also provide you with a discount at high street shops and restaurants such as New Look and McDonalds through the purchase of an NUS Extra Card. You can also apply to become a member of the Executive Committee in the annual elections. Student Ambassadors Become a Student Ambassador and learn new skills, gain work experience and promote your College to our visitors. There are often paid opportunities and you can get involved in a variety of events. Careers Guidance and Advice Our qualified and experienced advisors can help you with information on applying for university, student finance, gap years, training schemes, Apprenticeships, job searches and CV writing. They will conduct individual careers interviews to identify what is right for you. We also provide students with a dedicated up-to-date Careers Library. College Chaplains Our friendly College Chaplains are available to offer pastoral care and support for all students and staff. They are actively involved in College life and welcome students from all faiths and none. Counselling Our professional College Counsellors are available to support you with any personal problems including study, family relationships, personal relationships, self-esteem or any other problems that you may have. The service is strictly confidential and our Counsellors work with other staff members and various external agencies and organisations to provide additional, specialist support where necessary. Welfare Support Welfare support is available to help you with your transition from school to College. We have a dedicated Welfare Officer for you to talk to about issues affecting your private or College life.
