IT’S JUST THE BEGINNING What does your fresh start look like? For many, it’s a mature lifestyle village in a glorious location, surrounded by state-of-the-art security, lush indigenous gardens and completed by forest or ocean views. It could also be freedom of choice when it comes to activities, home types and purchase options that suit every need. Then, there’s the convenience factor of a single monthly levy that ensures everything is taken care of. Because when it comes to a new adventure, why should you settle for anything less than all of the above and then some? To see how you can live the holiday from as little as R1.6 million, book a private tour of Renishaw Hills, Scottburgh today. PUT THIS IN YOUR LOUNGE: OKHA’S CURATOR SOFA Originally designed by Cape Town-based design studio OKHA for a private art collector and ethnographic arts dealer, the Curator sofa was conceived as a singularly sculpted form on which to recline, rest and reflect upon the art works of his collection – hence the name. The Curator’s smoothed rock-like shape is certainly one of the more provocative chaise longue to be launched in the design world recently. Its honed and chiselled form alters from every viewing angle, resulting in an unlikely balance from seemingly random but intuitive asymmetry. Very stylish indeed! WWW.SILVER DIGEST.CO.ZA

SO, HOW DOES IT WORK? CBD’s ability to treat arthritis in general is due to one of its best-known and widely reported benefits, which is as an antiinflammatory. Arthritis is a condition of pain and stiffness caused by inflammation around the affected joints, so as CBD works to restore homeostasis (‘balance’) in the body, it helps to counteract and decrease the intensity of inflammation and pain in these areas. 28

OUR AUTUMN BOOK PICKS FOR YOUR COFFEE TABLE HIDDEN KAROO BY PATRICIA KRAMER AND ALAIN PROUST The Karoo is big-sky country; a land of vast plains punctuated by flat-topped mountains, conical hills and secluded valleys, a land of scrubby bushes and hardy trees, where pioneers carved roads out of rock to set down roots in an unforgiving environment. Here dreams are born, legends are made, and outcasts find sanctuary. It is also an ancient place, whose story is revealed through geology, fossils and artefacts, and whose human lineage predates any written history. Today, the people who inhabit it must manifest the same fortitude that sustained those who left their footprints in the primaeval mud. In Hidden Karoo you will find

the holdings of the Homestead Collection, based at Norval Foundation, as well as loans from private lenders. Georgina Gratrix (born in Mexico City, 1982) is known for paintings that feature expressive, impasto brushwork and humorous yet uncomfortable distortions of figures, objects and landscapes filtered through a colour-saturated aesthetic. Portraits of family and friends, as well as artworld insiders and popular culture icons, appear alongside oversized still-life paintings of impossibly exuberant bouquets and, to a lesser extent, verdant landscapes recalling the province of KwaZuluNatal, where the artist grew up. The Reunion, responding to loose themes within the artist’s practice, is divided into three parts. The first section displays Gratrix’s portraits of social figures based on images pilfered from social media platforms, newspapers, popular television series, films and society

SOLE MEUNIÈRE (Le Bistro) SERVES 4 In a smart Parisian bistro, your fish will be boned and plated tableside. Your waiter’s collared shirt will be clean and freshly pressed, the table linen starched and the wine chilled to perfection. Julia Child, the great American cook who popularised French cuisine in America in the ‘50s, described her first meunière as “the most exciting meal of my life”. It’s not hard to see why, because the humble sole is one of the most delicate and polite of all sea fishes. Even the bones behave themselves and will come away clean and neatly attached to the spine, all in one.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN TOYOTA 2000GT – CHAPTER 1

D

uring the 1960s, it was believed that Japanese cars did not offer the same level of quality, performance and reliability as their Western

counterparts. However, this was far from the truth as Japanese cars were becoming increasingly popular globally and often proved to be more reliable than many offerings from the United States and Europe. Japanese manufacturers had models that competed in almost every segment, ranging from economical hatchbacks to rugged off-roaders and sedans, but what they were missing was a luxurious high-performance sportscar. During the 60s, Europe offered the world cars like the Jaguar E-Type, the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari 250 GTO. America had the Corvette and other luxury models, but Japan was lacking on this front. That was

convertible versions of the 2000GT were specially commissioned for the film. Toyota simply chopped off the roof and replaced it with a soft-top unit. The 2000GT’s main rival, the Nissan 240Z, only arrived in 1969. Incorporating somewhat similar styling to the Toyota, Nissan’s 240Z focused more on outright performance, sacrificing luxury. After three short years of production, the last 2000GT left the factory in 1970, which completed the total build cycle of just 351 cars. The 2000GT changed how the world viewed Japanese cars and it went on to influence the design of some of Toyota’s most iconic sportscars, such as the Supra, the GT86 and even the Lexus LFA. Produced in such limited numbers, the 2000GT is widely considered to be the ultimate Japanese classic, which is reflected in auctions around the world. Pristine examples are fetching just under R15m at these prestigious events (at the time of writing).
