Dreamworld Experience Design Project Nicky Hope Brief 2 Design Boards
Product Overview Dreamworld is a response to Philips’ RSA competition brief Sleep Matters. It’s a product designed to aid sleep through the reduction of anxiety and the promotion of calming distractions.
Target Audience Young adults, primarily Millennials but also Generation Xers, are more stressed than any other living generation. Females are also more likely to be suffering from stress than males, but only slightly. The app was designed specifically to appeal to young adults through its use of a contemporary, minimalist theme, but is not gendered.
Design Philosophy The design is inspired by clouds and books, and aims to create a soft and fluid environment through its extensive use of drop shadows and white-on-white. Many elements lead off-page to create a sense of discovery and reduce any feeling of boundary or limitation. Shades of grey are used instead of true white or true black in order to reduce the level of contrast and subsequent strain on the eyes.
Typeface San Francisco has been chosen due to its high levels of readability and legibility, particularly in digital environments, as well as its contemporary, pleasing appearance, and its suitability for iOS.
Gamification Achievements add some element of gamification to the product, helping to increase user retention rates. If people would rather operate without them, they could be disabled in Preferences.
Dark Mode Dark Mode user interfaces are becoming increasingly popular as the density of OLED displays increases, and as people become increasingly aware of the effects screens have on the eyes and brain at night. Many people simply prefer the appearance of dark themes. Because many people would use this product at night, including a dark mode was a necessity.
