Combat Aircraft

The Most Famous Models in History Rendering by Marco De Fabianis Manferto Text by Riccardo Niccoli

Leftside: 40 Pages Softcover About 35 Color Photographs Rightside: 12 Pages + 20 Fold-outs 24 x 30 cm - 9½ x 11¾” 165,000 Characters 29,000 Words 80 Renderings Hardcover

This is an editorial concept comprising a small 40-page book that retraces the fundamental stages in the evolution of the combat aircraft, plus a 20-sheet foldout book that brings together the 40 most representative models. On every page, the text, accompanied by accurate 3D renderings and detailed technical information, will lead the reader through time, on a fascinating journey amidst curiosities, anecdotes and stories. The aircraft chosen are those that had the greatest impact on the collective consciousness and the most famous, either because of their large production numbers and distribution, or because they embodied significant technological innovations, or because, during the course of the main conflicts of the modern era, they made history. There are four aircraft dating back to the years of World War I, 20 that played a central role during the events of World War II and finally, 16 that have become famous in the modern aviation age from the 1950s to the present day. Marco De Fabianis Manferto, industrial designer, earned his Masters Degree in Product Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) specializing in 3D modeling at the Politecnico di Milano. For White Star Publishers he created the renderings of the books Ferrari (2014) and Harley-Davidson, the Legendary Models (2015). Riccardo Niccoli, a journalist, writer, photographer, and one of Italy’s best-known aeronautical historians, has written on the subject in specialized magazines since 1982. A graduate in Political Science, he writes for many publishers in Europe and the United States, and is the author of various books on aeronautical subjects.

The Timeless Icons of Menswear Text by Giuseppe Ceccarelli Would we have loved Humprey Bogart so much in Casablanca without his trench coat? Some clothes become path-breaking in men’s fashion when worn by celebrities who set out to make their mark in the artistic, political, business or intellectual spheres. Clothes actually speak, they tell us who we are or, in the worst case, who we would like to be. Unlike women’s apparel, which is frequently revitalized by reinterpreting and up-dating the classic ‘must-haves,’ the male look thrives on details and makes tradition the hallmark of the perfect gentleman. This volume presents the most essential elements of men’s wardrobe, items that have become icons: from ties to tuxedos, from shoes to pajamas, from tailor-made clothing to denim shirts or polo shirts, up to indispensable and precious accessories such as watches, cuff links, hats and sun glasses. The captivating text written by Cristina Manfredi, a journalist specialized in fashion and style brands, is accompanied by wonderful photographs: this combination takes readers on a journey through the most significant phases in the evolution of men’s fashion wear, revealing how these garments and accessories revolutionized men’s aesthetic taste as well as their approach to fashion.

Cristina Manfredi, after her classical studies and a degree in Foreign Languages at the Università Cattolica in Milan, first worked in the fashion business for international brands and then began to explore the intriguing vintage world. When she was 34, she started collaborating with independent magazines before serving as a fashion journalist for Milano Finanza Fashion and writing articles for Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue. In 2010 Manfredi joined the editorial staff of Vanity Fair Italia, alternating interviews and fashion articles with reflections on customs and VIP-watching in search of memorable outfits on the most important international red carpets.

The U2 Rock Saga Text by Ernesto Assante

224 Pages 25.5 x 29.5 cm - 10 x 11²⁄³” 140,000 Characters 24,650 Words About 145 Color Photographs Hardcover with Jacket

Simply rock: this is what the U2 are, have been, want to be and will still be. However, it must be said that ‘simply’ is not the right word, because in most of their extraordinary musical adventure very little has been simple. In fact, ‘complex’ would be the right term for their best and most fascinating albums, those that set out to speak the language of the contemporary scene by remaining deeply rooted in tradition while looking toward the future. And their live performances, which have conquered audiences all over the world – multimedia, interactive, creative, never the same – are even more complex. The story of this band, from their formation in 1976 in Dublin as a punk group to the present, is romantic and wonderful. It is the account of four youngsters who became kings, who dreamt about changing music and at the same time helping to change the world for the better, taking rock to the streets and making it travel on the spaceships of the future. This book relates their story through fine photographs and a precise description of the events and major stages of their tours and recordings, as well as through quotes taken from interviews with Bono and The Edge. It is a 40-year story that deserves to be read at one sitting, like a tale of adventure whose denouement is unknown. Ernesto Assante, is a correspondent for Italy’s “La Repubblica” newspaper, a music critic, author and TV and radio host. Alongside Gino Castaldo he presents “Playlist” on Radio Capital and “Webnotte” on “Repubblica.tv”. He has written several books, including “Legends of Rock” for White Star (2007) and Beatles with Gino Castaldo for Laterza (2014)

The Magic Moment

When all the Elements of Nature come Together Text by Anna Levin What goes into capturing a moment that lasts a few seconds before it vanishes forever? Luck plays a part, but so does planning and preparation. A picture begins as an idea and it develops as its elements are researched. The right equipment will help to capture it, but composing it requires knowledge and achieving it requires determination, passion, perseverance and patience; finding the perfect location may require days of travelling and waiting in the blistering heat, the numbing cold or climbing the highest peaks until the conditions are just right. Then luck steps in and that one element that was missing is suddenly in the frame: a look, a movement, a ray of light, the few seconds when the clouds part... when all the elements are in place, the picture then tells a story. This is a collection of those magic moments captured by some of the world’s best photographers and the stories behind each picture. The images evoke emotions and reveal details about the natural world that few are fortunate enough to witness.

My Paris

Celebrities Talk about the Ville Lumière Text by Alessandra Mattanza

256 Pages 23.5 x 30.5 cm - 9¼ x 12” 233,000 Characters 40,900 Words About 190 Color Photographs Hardcover with Jacket

Movies, novels, operas: one might well ask whether Paris is a real city or a perfect setting for any artistic medium. It may be both. The Ville Lumière, the city of light par excellence, is illuminated every evening to stage the perpetual spectacle of fascination, elegance, and a unique and inimitable lifestyle. Modern and classic at the same time, Paris is visited by millions of persons every year, an incessant flow that is reflected in the more placid flow of the Seine and is echoed in the city’s Latin motto, fluctuat nec mergitur (it floats but doesn’t sink). Just like the ship in the city’s coat of arms, the metropolis is never engulfed by the waves but remains stable, conscious and proud of its role in the world, almost as if it were guided by the many beacons that dot its horizon: the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Coeur, the Tour Montparnasse, the Arc de Triomphe, the obelisk in Place de la Concorde... But who can claim to really know this city, which has thousands of facets but only one soul? In order to discover and grasp the essence of Paris, traversing its most famous sights as well as capturing the small moments of everyday life in the various quarters thanks to the high-quality photographs in this book, we have turned to famous Parisians – either by birth or by choice – men and women in the world of entertainment, fashion, culture or professionals and their perception of their city. Through the exclusive interviews conducted by Alessandra Mattanza – a writer specialized in the entertainment and travel world – such celebrities as the chef Joël Robuchon, the architect and urbanist Christian de Portzamparc, the model and fashion designer Inès de La Fressange present their personal vision of Paris, first-hand accounts of their experience of the place they love and live in. Alessandra Mattanza, writer, screenwriter and fine-art photographer, was born in Italy but has lived abroad for more than twenty years. Her infinite passion for the cinema has led her to specialize in interviews with actors and directors, as well as in traveling and fiction. She currently works as a foreign correspondent, contributor and editor for a number of publishers. Besides novels she writes screenplays, coffee table books, travel books and tourist guides, focusing her attention on the great cities of the world, cinema and music, animals and nature. For White Star Publishers she published Wonders of New York; Australia, the New Frontier and My New York, Celebrities Talk about the City.

The 100 Photographs that changed the World Text by Federica Guarnieri and Roberto Mottadelli

224 Pages 24.2 x 28.5 cm - 6¾ x 9²⁄³” 180,000 Characters 31,600 Words More than 100 Photographs Flexibound with Flaps

Our civilization of images developed slowly in the course of the 20th century and has become predominant. Now it is no longer only words that narrate great historic events; very often this is done by photographs, which in an instant can capture the drama of an event and impress its power and significance on us forever. This book features a collection of the 100 most famous photographs of contemporary history, shots that have revealed to the world epoch-making moments and points of no return, images whose expressive power has stirred people’s conscience and given rise to significant changes in politics and customs. These images are symbols that remain impressed on the collective memory for generations. The first flight of the Wright Brothers; the moment the tomb of Tutankhamun was opened; the atomic ‘mushroom’ dominating the ruins of the Japanese city of Nagasaki; the Vietnamese girl burned by napalm; the first man walking on the Moon; the young Chinese man challenging the tanks in Tiananmen Square. The intriguing texts complement these unforgettable photographs, place them in their historic context, and illustrate the motivation behind the photographer’s decision to take the picture. This is a sequence of photographs that retrace the recent history of humanity, photographs that will not fail to overwhelm those who contemplate them. Federica Guarnieri, editor and author of travel guides, is a cinephile and photography enthusiast. After taking a degree in Philosophy, she wrote several books, published by some of the most important Italian publishing houses. With White Star Publishers she has cooperated in the realization of many volumes, including recently La Natura nel cuore. 10 grandi maestri della fotografia dietro l’obiettivo (The Masters of Nature Photography: Wildlife Photographer of the Year) and the Stati Uniti (USA) travel guide, contained within the book series Traveler National Geographic. She writes notices and reviews for many sites of film rating and fine-art photography. Roberto Mottadelli, art historian, managing editor of the editing service company Iceigeo. He collaborates with the University of Milan (formerly with the Apice Archives - Words, Images and Publishing Communication Archives, at present with the chair in Film Studies). Photography curator, he has worked for several art galleries and cultural institutions. During his career he has published many essays and travel guides with different publishing houses. For White Star Publishers he has edited several volumes, including recently the Manuale di fotografia digitale (The Digital Photography Manual).

Jobs of the World

Texts by Jago Corazza and Greta Ropa The aim of this book is not only to be an empathetic anthropological perspective on man’s activities, but also a tribute to the work that is still conducted by doing. Work that is done with your hands and with your body, moving through the space of everyday life. This doing, because of increasingly persistent globalization, has migrated for the most part towards the southern part of the world, transforming it into a large manpower base that is export-oriented. Doing something concretely makes a man proud, and gives him a sense of belonging and awareness. A part of the world has become increasingly less able to do things and more oriented towards theoretical feasibility ideas, and it is as if they are then reflected in the essential gestures of the part of the world which instead produces. But then the act of physical gestures takes over. Our attention is captured by the hands of farmers, craftsmen, mechanics, tailors, and street vendors that build social networks and support communities through their

actions, guaranteeing a future for the world. Jago Corazza, journalist, publicist and director, but above all photographer and traveller. His passion for travel led him to Africa, first as traveller and then as a guide throughout the continent. He has made documentaries in more than 120 countries in Asia, Oceania, Africa and the three Americas. As director and director of photography, he worked on a number of TV programs aired on the RAI, Mediaset, Videomusic, Sky networks. As production manager and director of photography he has worked on the production of events, shows, concerts and spectacular shows aired on various national TV networks. He has produced material for CNN Turner Classic Movies and has been awarded three “Telegatti” prizes and, in the US, the Telly Award for culture. Greta Ropa, author, foreign language correspondent, has a degree in human resource training and selection studies. She has many years’ experience in the fashion and advertising sector. With a passion for writing, traveling and photography, she has worked on documentaries shot in many countries. Wine sommelier A journey through the culture of wine Photos by Fabio Petroni - Text by Jacopo Cossater This book is an extraordinary journey into the universe of wine, a journey made up of images and words, following the history of a noble product that is as old as humanity and the geography of an alcoholic drink that seems to have emerged unscathed by the challenges of our modern-day society. Enhanced by the photographs of Fabio Petroni, a master of still-life shots, and the texts written by a renowned sommelier and journalist like Jacopo Cossater, this book reveals all the facets of wine: its ancient origins, the migration of historic grapevines, the various phases of wine production (grape cultivation and harvesting, wine-making, aging and conservation), the principles of wine-tasting, and the presentation of the principal wines and wine-making areas on a world level. An important section of the book is given over to 40 in-depth descriptions of the most prestigious wines in the world: their origin, the organoleptic characteristics, the best matching of varietals with certain dishes, and other curiosities. A very useful tool for wine-lovers or aspiring sommeliers is the chapter with the ‘Memorandum of the Sommelier’, which illustrates the secrets of cellar management and storage, the rules regarding serving temperature and decanting, as well as how to read the label or select the right bottle. A necessary addition to this exhaustive treatment of wine and wine-making is the glossary of the most important terms in the field of enology. For wine lovers or even those who want to know more about wine, this book will certainly provide the right answers and information.

Vegan Cookbook Tasty Recipes and Tips for Your Health Text and Photos Cinzia Trenchi It is widely confirmed that a diet based on legumes, cereals, vegetables and fruit is the passport for health and vitality. If we add the fact that this kind of diet has a much lower environmental impact, the choice seems to be inevitable. Health and philosophy are not separated, they join the vegan choice, on condition that it is made with awareness of both its advantages and its difficulties. Veganism implies some renounces that may seem excessive from a nutritional point of view, especially if you do not know how to replace meat, eggs, fish, sugar, honey and so on. This book is not a philosophical treaty on the ethics of choosing the diet, on the contrary it is an instrument for approaching these new rules for dieting (veganism was born in 1944 in England), and for discovering how, thanks to the generosity of legumes, the versatility of cereals, the ductility of dried fruit, of season vegetables, seeds, spices and herbs, you can shift from an omnivore diet to another without proteins, animal fat and derivative products. 160 Pages 19 x 26 cm - 7½ x 10¼” 77,000 Characters 13,500 Words About 70 Illustrations Hardcover

In quest’ultimo caso i chicchi vengono cotti a vapore e sminuzzati.

1.

The Milestones of Rock & Roll The Events that changed the History of Music Text by Ernesto Assante Rock is not just a musical genre, but a way of living, of doing things, of interpreting reality. Rock is created by its protagonists, some of whom were burned up too quickly by a fame that was so overwhelming as to be fatal, but which, at the same time, made them immortal. But rock is also live performance, because it is a totality of sounds, bodies, gestures, images, and noise. This book presents the great events that have changed the history of rock and music and, in some cases, the history of the world.

Masters of the Swindle

When Deception is a Question of Style Text by Gianni Morelli

256 Pages 14 x 21.5 cm - 5½ x 8½” 432,000 Characters 75,800 Words About 50 Photographs Hardcover with Jacket

In this volume, we have chosen to relate the most recent stories, from the beginning of the twentieth century or a little earlier up to today. To do this, we have selected 40 “artists”, jugglers, poker players who worked with words, with time, with the most impossible possibilities, against the strongest evidence. With them they have created a content, a figure, an event even more real than reality itself. Ferguson sold the Tower of London and the Statue of Liberty; for almost half a century, the fake skull of the Piltdown Man stood up to the examination of anthropologists before being unmasked; Hans Van Meegeren copied Vermeer so well that he was discovered only when he himself spontaneously confessed to it. These are the geniuses of deception: their stories are often incredible, extraordinary novels in four dimensions. Gianni Morelli has written articles and essays about history, geography and travels for the most important Italian publishing houses; many of them have been translated into English, German and Spanish. His production includes short stories, novels and scenarios. In several Italian and Swiss trade journals he has published articles and notes about deception and fraud, themes on which he has focused his studies in the last years.

The Frog Prince Once upon a time there was a princess who used to play with her golden ball near the pond in the palace gardens. One day, she threw it particularly hard, and the precious ball flew into the water and promptly sank. The princess was very angry. She stamped her feet and shook her fists in a rather un-royal way. She was just about to wade into the pond in search of her ball, when she heard a voice saying, “I can help you if you want!” Turning round, the princess saw a frog sitting on a lily pad. “Here is your ball. I’ll give it back to you only if you promise to take me to your palace. I’m very bored here all alone. I want to come to court, and sit at the table with you, dance with you, and sleep with you.” The princess thought that she would never sleep with a frog, but to get her ball back she promised everything he asked. Then as soon as she had her ball, she ran back to the palace with a laugh, forgetting everything. Some hours later, right in the middle of dinner, a strange sound came from the grand staircase: chack, chack, chack... it was the frog hopping up one step at a time, and finally he arrived at the king’s table. Laughing, the princess told her father what had happened in the garden that morning, but the king made her keep her promise. The girl was forced to spend the whole evening with her unexpected companion, who turned out to be very amusing for a frog. He made her laugh out loud with his stories, he listened to her secrets and her dreams without teasing her and shared her dinner until the princess stopped feeling at all squeamish. But when it was time for bed and the frog asked for a goodnight kiss, she replied rudely, “Oh no! I will never kiss you! You’re too slimy.”

easy. A young Parsee, with an intelligent face, offered his services, which Mr. Fogg accepted, promising so generous a reward as to materially stimulate his zeal. The elephant was led out and equipped. The Parsee, who was an accomplished elephant driver, covered his back with a sort of saddle-cloth, and attached to each of his flanks some curiously uncomfortable howdahs. Phileas Fogg paid the Indian with some banknotes which he extracted from the famous carpet-bag, a proceeding that seemed to deprive poor Passepartout of his vitals. Then he offered to carry Sir Francis to Allahabad, which the brigadier gratefully accepted, as one traveller the more would not be likely to fatigue the gigantic beast. Provisions were purchased at Kholby, and, while Sir Francis and Mr. Fogg took the howdahs on either side, Passepartout got astride the saddle-cloth between them.

in the house in Saville Row. He begun its inspection without delay, scouring it from cellar to garret. So clean, well-arranged, solemn a mansion pleased him ; it seemed to him like a snail’s shell, lighted and warmed by gas, which sufficed for both these purposes. When Passepartout reached the second story he recognised at once the room which he was to inhabit, and he was well satisfied with it. Electric bells and speaking-tubes afforded communication with the lower stories; while on the mantel stood an electric clock, precisely like that in Mr. Fogg’s bedchamber, both beating the same second at the same instant. “That’s good, that’ll do,” said Passepartout to himself. He suddenly observed, hung over the clock, a card which, upon inspection, proved to be a programme of the daily routine of the house. It comprised all that was required of the servant, from eight in the morning, exactly at which hour Phileas Fogg rose, till half-past eleven, when he left the house for the Reform Club--all the details of service, the tea and toast at twenty-three minutes past eight, the shaving-water at thirty-seven minutes past nine, and the toilet at twenty minutes before ten. Everything was regulated and foreseen that was to be done from half-past eleven a.m. till midnight, the hour at which the methodical gentleman retired. Mr. Fogg’s wardrobe was amply supplied and in the best taste. Each pair of trousers, coat, and vest bore a number, indicating the time of year and season at which they were in turn to be laid out for wearing; and the same system was applied to the master’s shoes. In short, the house in Saville Row, which must have been a very temple of disorder and unrest under the illustrious but dissipated Sheridan, was cosiness, comfort, and method idealised. Having scrutinised the house from top to bottom, he rubbed

The Parsee perched himself on the elephant’s neck, and at nine o’clock they set out from the village, marching off through the dense forest of palms by the shortest cut.

It only remained now to find a guide, which was comparatively

Some novels are considered classics of children’s literature and are read by generations of young readers, who have helped to make them timeless. For example, what is the secret that lies behind the great, long-lasting success of a novel set in the United States during the Civil War and written way back in 1868 by Louisa May Alcott? It is probably the fresh, realistic and lively personality of the protagonists of the story, the four March sisters (Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy) – with whom readers cannot help identifying sooner or later – who while growing up face the challenges and difficulties of life. The story of these four sisters, who are so different from one another and so realistic, with typical youthful shortcomings and dreams, is presented in this book in an original and modern way, thanks to the wonderful drawings by Francesca Rossi, an artist who knows how to render the full sense of the books she illustrates. Prepared especially for elementary school children, this book has large full-page or two-page watercolors and some line drawings interpolated in the text, which has been adapted to conform to the taste and sensitivity of today’s young readers. Francesca Rossi was born in 1983, she graduated from the International School of Comics in Florence. She publishes illustrated books with various Italian publishers and does drawings for covers and posters. In addition to illustrating, she offers educational workshops in schools and libraries, and creates and decorates ceramic art.

Meg was already covering the buckwheats, and piling the bread into one big plate. “I thought you’d do it,” said Mrs. March, smiling as if satisfied. “You shall all go and help me, and when we come back we will have bread and milk for breakfast, and make it up at dinnertime.” They were soon ready, and the procession set out. Fortunately it was early, and they went through back streets, so few people saw them, and no one laughed at the queer party. A poor, bare, miserable room it was, with broken windows, no fire, ragged bedclothes, a sick mother, wailing baby, and a group of pale, hungry children cuddled under one old quilt, trying to keep warm. Snow White One cold winter’s day, a queen stood at her window watching the snow fall. Suddenly she pricked her finger, and sighed, “How I would like a daughter with skin as white as snow, lips as red as this drop of blood and hair as black as coal.” Her wish was granted, but when the child was born the queen fell ill and died. Desperate not to leave the child without a mother, the king married a beautiful lady, not knowing that she was really a vain and wicked witch, who stood before her magic mirror every night asking it whether she was the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. The years passed and Snow White became a beautiful young woman, more beautiful even than her stepmother, as the mirror soon told her. In her anger, the queen ordered a hunter to take Snow White into the woods and kill her. But she was so sweet that he did not have the heart to do it and he let her escape. Scared, Snow White ran through the woods, and when she saw a small house, she went inside to hide. Wandering through the rooms, she was astonished to see that everything was incredibly small. Then she found the minuscule beds and, exhausted from running, she instantly fell asleep on one of them. Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs, the owners of the house, returned. As soon as they entered they knew that someone had been there, but they certainly did not expect to find a beautiful girl asleep. When she awoke, the dwarfs reassured Snow White. They would hide her from her stepmother! But that night, the magic mirror told the witch that the girl was still alive, so she turned herself into an old fruit-seller and brought Snow White a poisoned apple. The unsuspecting girl took a big bite of the apple and immediately

Pinocchio Once upon a time there was a carpenter called Geppetto who wanted a son very much. He decided to make a special puppet, but he was astonished when he saw that it could move and talk on its own. But Pinocchio, for that was his name, turned out to be a rascal, and more than anything he hated going to school. Geppetto scraped together enough money to buy Pinocchio’s school books, but the puppet sold them for the price of a ticket to see the awesome Fire Eater’s puppet show. Fire Eater was an unfriendly man, but he had a good heart and he gave Pinocchio five gold coins. When he left the puppet theater, Pinocchio met the Cat and the Fox, who tricked him into burying his coins so that a tree would grow and produce hundreds. The two tricksters were just waiting for an opportunity to rob him, and just after nightfall, they chased him into the woods disguised as robbers and hung him from a tree. At last, he was saved by the Blue Fairy, who promised that if he was good she would to turn him into a boy. Pinocchio, however, was convinced by his friend Lampwick to go with him to Toyland, a place where children spend the day playing and eating lollipops, without ever having to study. But they were soon turned into donkeys, and sold at the market. Pinocchio was bought by a circus owner, who did not hesitate to throw him into the sea when Pinocchio was no longer of any use. Now Pinocchio turned back into a puppet, but a short time later was swallowed by a whale. This was a lucky thing, because inside his belly the puppet found Geppetto, who had gone to sea in search of him. The two managed to escape and they went home together, but the carpenter was sick, and because he loved Geppetto very much, Pinocchio worked

hard all day to buy his medicine. The Blue Fairy, who was very fond of the puppet and had never ceased to watch over him, decided to reward his love and his goodness. And so it was that one day Pinocchio woke up, looked in the mirror and found that he had finally become a real child. The wizard of Oz It was a hot summer night and little Wendy and her two brothers, John and Michael, were just going to bed when suddenly, a boy dressed all in green flew in the open window, and with a big smile invited her to follow him. Wendy did not think twice. She immediately recognized the strange visitor to be Peter Pan, the boy who would not grow up, and she was eager to go with him to Neverland. This was where the mysterious Peter lived, with fairies, talking birds, mermaids, Indians, pirates, and the Lost Children, the children who are allowed to fall out of their baby carriages by careless governesses and are no longer sought. Having been sprinkled with fairy dust, Wendy, John, and Michael followed Peter out of the window and across the city, and in less than no time they found themselves within sight of the island. But the welcome they received was far from warm. The dreaded pirate Captain Hook, Peter Pan’s bitter enemy, fired his cannons at them, trying to bring them down. But the children landed safe and sound and were immediately surrounded by a gaggle of happy children. The Lost Children were glad their commander had returned. Wendy saw right away that what they lacked most was a mother, and so she decided that she would look after them. Next day, their adventures began. Captain Hook ambushed Peter and his companions close to the house they had made among the treeroots, and he kidnapped Wendy and the Lost Children. “It was definitely the evil pirate Captain Hook,” said the fairy Tinkerbell to Peter when he found out. “And he must have taken them to his ship!” That was exactly what had happened: the pirate had captured Peter’s friends so that Peter would rush to their aid, and

then he would deal with him once and for all. The duel between the two enemies was terrible. It was impossible to tell who would win, but then Hook leaned against the railing of the ship, and it gave way. The pirate fell into the sea, right into the jaws of the crocodile that had previously bitten off his hand. After that adventure, Wendy began to want to go home. Peter agreed to take the three children back to their parents, but he still comes back every now and then to say hello, and stops outside the window of their room to watch them play, smiling. Fairy tales and fantasy books are usually crowded with monsters and odd creatures, which, more than being scary, provide a stimulation for children’s imagination. The monstrous creatures in this original editorial project are some of the most unique, as they can be transformed and changed with a simple movement of the hand, according to our children’s taste and invention. This book consists of a memory game and a book that accompanies it, thanks to which children will be able both to have fun and learn, through the use of the simple mechanism of playing: each memory card has a half monster to be completed by finding its other half. The young players will find it after having carefully observed the protagonists of the game and having learned their names and characteristics. Once the simple puzzles have been completed, the children can then enjoy themselves mixing up the cards on the table to invent strange and unexpected monstrous creatures, as suggested by the book which accompanies the game. The brightly colored illustrations by Agnese Baruzzi, which use humor to lead children to discover all about bizarre creatures, also feature on a very colorful poster, perfect for cheerily decorating the bedrooms of the young “horror” readers. The book also has a digital expansion, thanks to a downloadable APP for an interactive experience full of games, activities, and extra content and projected to guarantee more and more fun. There was a girl called Dorothy. Her parents had both died, and so she lived with her uncle and aunt in the countryside. Her best friend was her little dog, Toto. Toto’s tail was always wagging and he always made Dorothy laugh. That day, though, Dorothy did not want to play with her dog. She was very worried – she knew something was wrong. For hours now, her Uncle Henry had been anxiously watching the sky, which was growing darker and darker. The wind whistled and blew ever harder, rippling the grass. Finally, Uncle Henry jumped to his feet. “Em, there’s a tornado coming!” he cried to his wife. “Quick, into the cellar!” Aunt Em was so worried that she dropped the plate she had been washing.

AND SHE RAN TO OPEN THE TRAPDOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM HERE, STARTED CLIMBING DOWN THE LADDER INTO THE CELLAR. “COME DOROTHY, NOW!” SHE CRIED. The girl jumped to her feet and grabbed Toto so tightly that she hurt him. He jumped out of her arms, ran under the bed and refused to come out. “Toto, come here! We have to go down into the cellar with Aunt Em!” cried the girl, but the sound of the wind drowned out her words. Dorothy was forced to crawl under the bed to get him. At that moment, a very strange thing happened. The howling of the wind became deafening and the cabin shook so violently that the little girl lost her balance.

Dorothy felt the house spin around twice. Then it rose into the air, higher and higher until she thought it must have reached the very top of the tornado. Out of the window, she could see cows and horses flying alongside the house. Uncle Henry had not had time to put into their stable. Toto was terrified. He ran up and down the room, barking furiously. He didn’t notice the trapdoor in the middle of the room which was still open. Suddenly he fell through it . . . Dorothy gasped in horror. They were so high up, and she couldn’t bear to think of poor Toto falling to the ground. But she soon saw Toto’s nose poking through the trapdoor. The strong wind was holding him up. Dorothy slowly crawled over to the trapdoor, helped the little dog to climb back in, and slammed the door shut. She sat on the floor, hugging Toto in her arms, and listened to the howling of the wind all around. She wondered whether the house would crash to the ground or whether the wind would smash it to pieces. She stayed there for ages, not moving. But as time passed and nothing terrible happened she calmed down. Still holding onto Toto, she crawled across the floor, clambered on to her bed, and closed her eyes. She slept all night, while the house was swept along in the air, as if it were as light as a feather. Dorothy was woken by a loud bump. It made her jump so much

In a quiet village there once lived a lively young girl. Everyone knew her because of her infectious smile, and because of the red cape with a hood, which she wore every day. The girl had rather a long, complicated name, and because she always wore her red cape, people in the village started to call her Little Red Riding Hood. The reason she liked her cape so much was because it was a gift from her beloved grandmother. On her birthday, the girl had come home from school to find that her grandmother had paid a surprise visit. The girl rarely saw her grandmother because she lived in another part of the woods.

THE HER GRANDMOTHER HAD BROUGHT TWO BASKETS WITH HER. MUCH. FIRST CONTAINED THE CHERRY TART THAT THE GIRL LIKED SO It was shaped like a daisy, because her grandmother knew how much she liked to pick flowers. The second basket contained the beautiful cape. Red was the girl’s favourite colour, and her grandmother had made it especially for her. After spending a few days together, her grandmother had returned home, but she promised that she would come to visit her grand-daughter again soon. However, Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother was not well enough to visit. She needed to stay in bed and rest. Little Red Riding Hood was very upset. “Who will look after her?” she said. “Who will cook for her?”

“I’ll go,” said her mother. “I’ll leave tomorrow when your father gets back from market. I have got some delicious food for her.” “Let me go!” said Little Red Riding Hood. “Please, Mother! I could stay with Grandmother for a few days and keep her company.” “I don’t know,” her mother replied. “You would have to go through the woods and be very careful,” she said. “I’ll be careful, I promise!” said Little Red Riding Hood. “And you promise not to stop to talk to anyone, and to go straight to your grandmother’s house without straying from the path?” her mother said. “Of course! Don’t worry, Mother,” the girl replied. At last her mother agreed. “All right,” she said. “Take this basket, and make sure you stay on the path!” “I’ll do just as you say,” promised Little Red Riding Hood. But as she walked through the woods, she soon forgot all her mother’s advice. The trees were looking beautiful! The birds were singing and the squirrels jumped from tree to tree, making Little Red Riding Hood laugh. She started to chase them. “I’ll go only as far as that big oak tree over there and then I’ll come back to the path that leads to Grandmother’s,” she thought. But when she had reached the oak tree, she saw a

“Lasciami andare!”
