“ uper fun course. The par 4’s are the strong suit as each of them plays with different looks and shot values. Conditions were good and the greens fast and true. Lots of courses claim to be good for the low and high handicap player, but this one delivers on that. I’ve played all the AC area courses and this one is right up there near the top. Definitely worth a game.” “Excellent condition, great value and only 20 minutes from the AC casinos. Bring the wife and let her roam the vineyards for 4 hours as you enjoy the open, mistake-friendly course. Stay and eat at the restaurant equally as good.” From the beginning, the owners of Renault Resort wanted a course unique to South Jersey, nestled in between its award winning restaurant and winery. This unique 7,000 yard Championship Golf Course shows majestic views of the vineyards and orchards as it meanders subtly through the Pinelands. The course offers strategic elements that create risk and reward opportunities on every hole. Meticulously maintained tees, fairways, greens and ponds will accentuate the high quality of Renault craftsmanship. Whether it is a business meeting, a weekend retreat at the Renault Winery and Tuscany House or just a day out on the links, the Vineyards Golf Course is a fascinating getaway. Nearly a century and a half old, Renault Winery is a recognized New Jersey State Historical site and one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the United States. Like a fine varietal, the winery has continued to grow, develop and improve with age. Today, Joseph Milza, a former newspaper owner and publisher, owns and operates the winery and vineyards with his family. Under his direction, the winery has thrived and become one of the most popular tourist attractions in New Jersey and a favorite of local residents.

One of the safest, low-dose CT scanners is available at AMI. The CT scan is one of the greatest advancements in modern medicine. CT scans enable radiologists to see inside the human body to diagnose disease without invasive tests or surgery. You are probably aware of the recent attention given to the radiation dose patients receive from medical imaging, especially CT scans. AMI has been keenly aware of this and for decades has paid attention to it by optimizing CT scan techniques to minimize radiation dose. There’s no question, CT scans help save lives. But there is concern about radiation. That’s why at AMI, we use the world’s first, low radiation ASiRTM technology. This technology reduces your exposure to radiation by up to 50%, unlike any other existing CT scanner. ASiRTM, which stands for Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction, is in essence, a massive upgrade in CT scan technology. ASiRTM works by making better and more efficient use of the CT scan data. By using this data more effectively, this allows AMI to decrease by up to 50% the radiation exposure a patient receives. This radiation dose reduction, combined with improved image quality allows AMI’s radiologists to make an accurate diagnosis, faster and better. Radiation dose reduction is important to all patients, especially children, young women, patients requiring repeat CT scans, and cancer patients, many of whom receive multiple CT scans to determine the effectiveness of their chemotherapy or radiation. With ASiRTM, you can have peace of mind knowing you’re receiving the safest CT scan available.

50% Less Radiation for you. High-Quality Images for your doctor. When you are in need of a CT scan, ask your doctor for ASiR at AMI. TM

artorially splendid in red tie, top hat, and cane, jaunty Mister Monopoly and his white

handlebar mustache greet the players who have journeyed to Las Vegas, Nevada from across the globe to toss a pair of dice. But these folks are not here on a gambling junket; they’ve gathered to compete in the 2009 world championship showcasing their favorite pastime and the world’s most enduring table game. Filmmaker Kevin Tostado’s new documentary Under the Boardwalk: The MONOPOLY Story captures the color, the comradery, the thrill of victory, the agony of... There is no agonizing among Monopoly contestants, though losing players are, by definition, bankrupt—the winner is the one still solvent. Conceived as a thoughtful indictment of capitalism’s inequities, the game evolved into a tabletop celebration of its Darwinian vigor. Tostado’s film examines both Monopoly’s history and the passion of its practitioners. Which include the 26-year-old producer-director himself. “It was my favorite board game [growing up],” says Tostado, who sharpened his game skills prior to production. “It brings families and cultures together.” A San Diego native, Tostado exchanged coasts in 2002 to join the maiden class of Olin College of Engineering (near Boston), where he parlayed $500 and a hobbyist’s interest in moviemaking into the coming-of-age drama Yellow Lights, which garnered some independent film awards and set his career course. (“I applied an engineering mentality to filmmaking,” he says.) Back in San Diego after graduation, he directed “webisodes” and videos, and contemplated his next feature. He determined to tackle a documentary, his sole requirement being that he “care about the topic.” He cared about Monopoly. As a teenager, Tostado had been captivated by Phil Orbanes’ comprehensive guide to tactics and trivia, The MONOPOLY Companion, and in the summer of 2007, he contacted the author about a fledgling film project. —— lifestyleonlinemag.com

he Professional Arts Building at 1616 Pacific Avenue is where almost any adult in South Jersey can say, “I remember that place! I visited my dentist there as a kid!” Built in 1927 by 30 doctors, the building had gone into abandoned slumber like many places along Pacific Avenue at the millennium. Enter John Schultz and Gary Hill in 2004, Schultz being the former owner of clubs in town including Club Tru and Studios 5 and 6. He’s cashed in his chips but is still full of zip, and he and Hill are seated on more than a dozen charity boards in Greater Atlantic City. They wanted the perfect home for their SchultzHill Foundation, and the day they surveyed the building, they knew they’d found it. ” Largely the fanfare and finery therein are due to Schultz-Hill imaginations. They were faced that day with grey peeling paint, long dank corridors, rusted air conditioners in every window, and the smell of dampness. Today, the building is smiling again. You can’t even believe it from the street. Inside stands the two-year-new Casa Del Cielo, “Home in the Sky” of the Schulz14

Hill Foundation and its two founding partners. Come off the elevator in the sixth floor, you’ll find the busy yet elegant foundation offices. Come off on the 7th floor, it’s like being dropped into paradise. It’s an ogle-fest, like a five-star hotel, yet home to Hill and Schultz, capable of serving 350 guests without much bumping of shoulders. It’s the combination of overview and detail that renders the place impeccable, and there’s a story every place you look. The seventh floor elevator unveils a marble staircase, bending gracefully in either direction above its platform. It’s topped with a skylight dome of painted glass favoring blues, made in California, but drawn by Schultz’s hand. Walk past the Kawai grand piano to the right, and you’re at the threshold of the dining room. The inlaid table seating thirty was handmade in Egypt as was the 8-foot buffet. Local artifacts abound in the home, and those in the dining hall include a 20-foot-long chandelier from the Sands, crown molding from Harrah’s, and the original bronze knife-and-fork insignia from the Knife and Fork Inn. Beyond the dining hall lies the media center with six banquettes facing a large screen. The screen area also serves as a small stage, where announcements can be miked through the sound system. On either side of the screen sit proud pillars designed from original smoke stacks at the Showboat. Ceilings are important throughout the residence, and they are very noticeable in the theater with its facilitating low roof. Ocean City’s David Gilhooly spent years hand-painting walls and ceilings throughout the residence, decking the theatre’s tray ceiling with brushed leaves of Schultz’s design. It’s almost like a secret passage: Duck off to one side of the screen stage, and you’re in a corridor, leading to another corridor. This is used as a backstage area for an announcer or entertainer. The second corridor will lead you back around to the industrial kitchen, all granite, walnut and the latest in industrial service. Here, cater lifestyleonlinemag.com

ers prepare the courses for dinners or the hors d’oeuvre trays, carried by servers who circulate during parties. Lenox bearing the Atlantic City insignia was a gift from a councilman. Cross the gilded staircase in the lobby again, and you’ll pass the wine library, housing some 750 bottles, topped by a 1978 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild, valued at $1,400. It also features a cruvinet unit from Resorts, which attaches bottles of wine to taps and also preserves

their goodness for up to a year. Enter the main salon with facing couches, done in French royal velvet stripes, which would each seat eight comfortably, and beyond, the largest of the eight fireplaces in the residence. the walls here and in the lobby, applying a treatment that makes them look like authentic brick, but they’re pliable to the touch. Most awe inspiring in this room is probably the view north and south of Pacific Avenue. Upon staring out any set of the eight elegant French doors, one might be tempted to say, “Wait... this isn’t supposed to be the most scenic view around town.” Yet the view would somehow eclipse any seventh story view of the streets of Manhattan. It features the Free Public Library, the hospital, and the sun-gathering station where the Sands used to rest to the south. “Return to the lobby and ascend the staircase to rooms that Schultz and Hill call home, but they are as detailed and intriguing as all that lay below. The private living room features comfy couches facing a double fireplace shared with Schultz’s library. The sandstone mantle from Texas weighs 3,000 pounds and sides up to a stalwart currier cabinet made in Egypt. The room is done in pumpkin, pinks and cherry wood with a merlot ceiling, capturing or rejecting light via electronic shades working separately on all windows. The room separates from a compact but state-of-the-art kitchen with a built-in breakfast nook. To the far side of the fireplace is a double

door leading into Schultz’s library. The floor-to-ceiling rich woods therein give the room a studious look that is balanced nicely by the pair’s love of places afar. The shelves are more adorned with travel memorabilia than books, one from each place Schultz and Hill have visited, and of course there are the intriguing local artifices. Facing the other entrance from the upstairs lobby rests a framed picture, dated 7-5-1929, a rendering of Haddon Hall—soon to be built. The upstairs lobby is a gallery with some stunning pieces. Salvador Dali and Chagall renderings are displayed west of the elevator. They’re offset by pen-andink drawings to the east, four by Ringo Star and one by John Lennon among other pieces. The most notable room on this floor is probably the private spa. A modern swim-in-place pool will also seat 24 guests comfortably, transforming to a hot tub with spouting Egyptian founts and a waterfall. It contains its own bar, steam room and sauna, massage table, small gym, and is tiled to perfection in olives, golds and browns. “It’s here one might become curious about an 80-year-old building sturdy enough to house pieces weighing three thousand pounds each and a pool that obviously holds a ton of water. Schultz tells of the Professional Arts Building being a fall out shelter during World War II because of its massive concrete walls and brute strength in flooring. You could drive a fleet of trucks across any floor, he says, which made knocking down walls and partitions an abominable job. That’s

also part of the past in what now gleams throughout in artful lighting, thoughtful colors and a host of detail. “ Down two floors, four guest suites provide privacy, each with signature pieces, colors and designs. Schultz and Hill feel many debts of gratitude, one to Atlantic Coast Alarm for a security system allowing one to see twelve security views on a screen from any room in the house, all discreetly placed for touch-of-a-button service. The two also give many accolades to architect Tom Sykes, who followed Schultz’s drawings and imagination to the letter. Nick Woodring, who spent months doing woodwork throughout, is a true artist. Schultz and Hill are giving back to the city by designing a place of hospitality in the center of town, when it would have perhaps been easier to veer down beach or head offshore. With their foundation providing its own grants and scholarships in the areas of art, music, and history, they’ll also be providing hospitality inside Casa Del Cielo to many local philanthropists and charities. They say they’re enormously happy to be giving back to the place where Schultz earned his living for 35 years. §

Miami Heats Up with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Photos by Michael Buckner/Getty Models, Celebrities, VIPS and Fashion Industry Insiders descended on South Beach July 14th to 18th. For the seventh year, thousands of fashion industry professionals migrated to the sands of Miami Beach to see what’s in store for the swimwear industry in 2012. “This season was one the most exciting to date; Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim brought it’s most international roster of swimwear designers yet,” says Christina Neault, Executive Producer of the event for IMG Fashion. “The swimwear industry is such a rapidly growing market worldwide and we are happy to provide a platform for designers to travel from across the world to show their collections. A genuine feeling of a global design community was felt as we showcased designs from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, France, Peru and the US.” The activities began with a sizzling runway show by Diesel and a not-to-be-missed kick-off party on the 14th. A DJ, SKYY ®Vodka bar, and a special surprise musical guest on the iconic Raleigh pool deck ushered in the week of shows and events. In addition to the opening, shows included collections from: White Sands Australia, Poko Pano, Beach Bunny Swimwear, Crystal Jin, L*Space by Monica Wise, Wildfox Swimwear, Caffé Swimwear, Dolores Cortés, Mara Hoffman Swim, Aqua Di Lara, Natori, A.Ché, Red Carter, Cia.Marítima, Luli Fama, Luxe by Lisa Vogel, Lisa Blue, Kooey Swimwear Australia, Nicolita Five days of “invitation-only” shows and events saw over 12,000 journalists, photographers, buyers, and VIPs pass through two full runway venues: the Cabaña Grande and the Oasis, which provided an optimal show venue to over twenty-five designers. The Oasis was also home to fully-decked cabanas hosted by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim official sponsors as well as sexy and comfortable seating areas for the fun and fashionable to lounge while mingling with the industry’s elite. Fashion will always be in, and we all wear it in our own way.

W

hat is it about fashion that we all love? And not just women, but men, kids, even pets. Okay, maybe not pets, but we sure love to dress our pets and make sure that they show some fashion sense. And why wouldn’t we, it does afterall reflect on us in the end. Even though the latest fads may not always fit our own personal style, in some way or another, we find a way to make the lateset fashion statements be seen in our outfit selections. Even if it’s something small like a scarf or jewelry to jazz up our everyday wear that we are used to. Besides, not every body is the same, so what fits the models certainly isn’t going to fit or flatter everyone else. The latest trends in shoes, handbags, clothes, jewelry and accessories are a major concern to the majority of the poplution, and we all tend to make sure we have the latest styles in our closets. Luckily for the internet, it’s not hard to find what you are looking for. Even at a great price. However, when shopping online, you can’t actually try the clothes on. So unless you know exactly what you are looking for, say a certain pair of jeans that you already own but in a different shade of blue, then you are much better off going to your local boutique and trying it on and buying it there. Even if you think you can go home and search the interenet and find it for less. Afterall, you’ll save on all of the shipping costs, which can really add up, especially if you decide to return any items. And local boutiques stand by their products and appreciate you as a consumer, and will recognize your face the next time you walk in their store. They’ll even measure you, and get your correct size, and order it if it’s not in stock, with free shipping by the way. Some of the top local boutiques in the area include Barbara’s of Linwood, Eleganza on the Pier at Caesar’s Carmelita Couture in Philadelphia and we are sure you have a few of your own that you frequent. Of course there is always your local mall, but they don’t always have that personal touch when you walk in, as they consist more of franchised stores. And in most shopping malls you are less likely to find the quality that you are looking for. That is, clothes that could actually last you a lifetime, as would the clothes that you buy in a boutique. Of course, yes, there are exceptions to that rule. For instance, go to the Cherry Hill Mall and you’ll find Nordstrom’s, well known for their high end clothing lines. Not just clothing, but shoes, handbags, jewelry, make-up, etc. In fact, Nordstrom’s is one of the few department stores in this particular area where you can find many name brands that you would normally find only in local boutiques. And Nordstrom’s may offer an array of great services, like measuring and tailoring, but guaranteed you are still not going to get that personal touch that you get in a boutique. o what exactly does fashion mean? Fashion, a general term for a currently popular style or practice, especially in clothing, foot wear or accessories. Fashion references to anything that is the current trend in look and dress up of a person. The more technical term, costume, has become so linked in the public eye with the term “fashion” that the more general term “costume” has in popular use mostly been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while the term “fashion” means clothing generally, and the study of it. For a broad cross-cultural look at clothing and its place in society, refer to the entries for clothing, costume and fabrics. The remainder of this article deals with clothing fashions in the Western world. The fashion industry is a product of the modern age. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom made. It was handmade for individuals, either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors. By the beginning of the 20th century—with the rise of new technologies such as the sewing machine, the rise of global capitalism and the development of the factory system of production, and the proliferation of retail outlets such as department stores—clothing had increasingly come to be mass-produced in standard sizes and sold at fixed prices. Although the fashion industry developed first in Europe and America, today it is an international and highly globalized industry, with clothing often designed in one country, manufactured in another, and sold world-wide. For example, an American fashion company might source fabric in China and have the clothes manufactured in Vietnam, finished in Italy, and shipped to a warehouse in the United States for distribution to retail outlets internationally. The fashion industry has long been one of the largest employers in the United States, and it remains so in the 21st century. However, employment declined considerably as production increasingly moved overseas, especially to China. Because data on the fashion industry typically are reported for national economies and expressed in terms of the industry’s many separate sectors, aggregate figures for world production of textiles and clothing are difficult to obtain. However, by any measure, the industry accounts for a significant share of world economic output. The fashion industry consists of four levels: the production of raw materials, principally fibres and textiles but also leather and fur; the production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors, and others; retail sales; and various forms of advertising and promotion. These levels consist of many separate but interdependent sectors, all of which are devoted to the goal of satisfying consumer demand for apparel under conditions that enable participants in the industry to operate at a profit.

olidays are the time for hosting and toasting and the popular beverage of choice for the celebrations continues to be champagne. The Cattier Champagne house is a great example of how a small company can fashion a demand by being innovative, distinctive and bold. Cattier Champagnes are increasingly being found on the wine lists of some of the world’s leading restaurants. But what’s really putting the company on the map is a special edition, of which the first bottles of 52

Cattier is more wedded to traditional techniques than many houses, but it reserves special attention for its Armand de Brignac, originally created in the 1950s. Cattier’s Armand de Brignac’s champagne hails from a blend of three grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, harvested from the “Premier Cru” vineyards of the Carrier family in Chigny-lesRoses, a tiny village in the Champagne region of France.
