What’s fun about just being NORMAL
Editor’s Word ‘Facteur’ is a magazine presented by our Armuse enterprise members. Our aim is to make our magazine all about ‘amuse’. The very first edition of Fateur’s theme is ‘Break the Boundary’. In the other word, ‘nomore normal’. Why should we always stay inside the boundaries created by majority? Let’s love originality! Enjoy! Seunghyeon Koo | Joowon Lee

FASHION
“Destroy!”
The effect of PUNK was huge as british youth mocked government, listened to Sex pistol, and if they could afford, they wore Vivienne Westwood. It was a revolution of music and fashion in the UK culture that contains voice toward the society and government. Mainly youth’s frustration about economic inequality and the bourgeois hypocrisy and neglect of working people and their struggles.

ivienne Westwood is a british fashion designer who is a revolutionary character of fashion and British culture around 1980. She is well known for ‘BRITISH PUNK’, which sweeped whole UK. ‘PUNK’ is a loud, fast-moving, and aggressive form of rock music, popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. With her partner Malcom Mc Laren, who is promoter and manager of band ‘New York Dolls’ & ‘Sex pistol’, they largely initiated punk movement at the boutique ‘SEX’. While the tight latex and burnt T-shirts were key pieces, the shop’s main commodity was punk itself. They sold provocative clothes related to the SEX, while the interior of the store itself was reminding of women’s womb.

LIFE
Date: AUG 2020 Medium: Mixed Media
Inspired by a quote from Albert Camus, "Life is a sum of all your choices," she produced an object that shows my day-to-day decisions for 30 days. Each item expresses her identity: drinking coffee, that day's chosen perfume, etc. She intended to represent how momentary decisions can be assembled and produce art. Hence, a type of self-portrait. Her message is that it lies in our hands what kind of life we are going to live, and the beauty of life is in each precious decision.

NA YOUNG SON: EGO Track No. 1 - Floating Stars
For my composition, I tried to embrace the rhyth mic fascination of an uneven meter throughout this piece. The melodic and rhythmic cells are developed mainly through diminution. The overall structure is in ternary with some influences from minimalism. I composed it for a combination of non-western and western instruments to metaphorically illustrate the distanced, floating stars.

Track No. 2 - DAnCing oN a WirE The precarious state of mind is universal but personal for every human. Whenever I fall into this emotional instability, I go through six extreme emotional phases: sensing the sinister, denying the feeling, concealing my inner turmoil, tottering around, breaking down, and draining out emotions to regain emotional stability. My composition, which is based on Expressionism, explores these six stages of my emotional journey.

Track No. 3 - The Dawn over the Han River I was inspired by the scenery of the rising dawn over the Han river to compose this orchestral composition for a standard symphony orchestra. Within the framework of a ternary structure, where the sections are grouped in accordance with tempo, the piece is in theme and variation form. The theme features the motif of the Korean folk tune ‘Arirang’. The piece is in G major with several modulations to the relative minor and via the circle of fifths.
NA YOUNG SON: LOVE SPACE Track No. 1 - Dance with me
When I composed this piece, I was imagining a vibrant scenery of lovers, who just fell in love at first sight, dancing under the moonlight. To convey their gentle, affectionate movements, I composed this ‘cool jazz’ piece for the jazz trio - piano, double bass, and drum - along with a vocal to be performed in a jazz lounge.

Track No. 2 - Misty Night ‘Han’ is a complicated emotion associated with the sense of nostalgic yearning for something in the past that is irrevocable. I tried to convey this untranslatable Korean sentiment through my composition by featuring the elements of Korean ballade such as the 3/4 meter and piano-based accompaniment. The lyrics are about the grief of long-departed lovers who each decided to let the lover go even though they still love one another, hoping that one day, they would be able to fully move on from each other.

Track No. 1 - Kelly Moran - Helix I borrowed melodic cells from the Korean folk tune ‘Arirang’ to extend the tune in an improvisatory style through motific developments. Contrasting to other saw-tooth-based sounds, I added an electronic instrument that sounds like a woodwind using triangle and square waves to convey the sense of alienation in outer-space. Towards the end, I added offbeat drum patterns to embrace the free-tempo-like rhythmic characteristics of Korean folk music.
