Leadership Transfer House 24-2025
Leadership Transfer Message from New House Captains
Hello, my name is Youngjae (Collin) Seo, and I am honored to serve as the House Captain of Geomun for 2024-2025. Since my days as Year Group Vice Captain in Year 7, Geomun has been more than a House to me—it has been my shelter, inspiration, and home. The pride of the Griffins and the sense of belonging I have felt have always supported me, and now I want to give back. I am committed to ensuring that everyone in Geomun experiences the same warmth and encouragement I have received.
Looking at the leadership of Sean, I see there are many areas for me to improve, but I promise you that I will give my utmost effort to make a positive impact. Please reach out to me whenever you need assistance or support; I am here for each and every one of you.
Thank you all for your hard work and dedication this year—you have truly exemplified the spirit of Geomun. Let’s strive to make next year even greater! Have a wonderful summer break! Together we are stronger, together we are Geomun!

Commendations
A message from Mr. Heydinger
House Commendations are awarded at the end of each term to students that have in some way shown outstanding examples of House spirit or made excellent contributions to the success of the House. Over the last couple of years we have tended to recognise the Year 11 House Leaders at the end of term 1, the Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 leaders at the end of term 2, and then other outstanding contributions at the end of term 3.
Those students being recognised this week have show a variety of examples of House spirit. Some have been very successful in competitions. Some have have quietly got involved in a range of House activities, and some have been rewarded for showing character, resilience and determination. Whilst there are always obvious candidates for House Commendations, it’s also important to reflect on the ‘hidden’ and less public examples of the contributions students have made. The students listed below have all shown the true characteristics of House spirit and what it means to be a ‘Geomuner’. I’d like to thank them for their energy, commitment and enthusiasm, but most of all I’d like to thank them for setting and excellent example to those around them.

House Art
House Art is mainly divided into two parts: KS3 and KS4. KS3 students are given one day to produce multiple pieces of artwork, which are then combined to form one cohesive piece. KS4 art works a bit differently; students are given five days to collaboratively create a mural. Geomun won the House Art competition last year with a stunning piece, and we wish the best of luck to our Arts team this year.
Hello! This is Eric Nah, your new Arts Captain. House Arts was challenging but also very rewarding. This was my first time ever being involved in House Art, and I had the privilege of leading it as well. Our group faced difficulties at the start, but as always, being together made us stronger. In the end, we created an art piece that every member of the group could be satisfied with. House Art 2024 will remain one of my best memories, regardless of the results Thank you for your effort Geomun!

Olle walk
This year, we are introducing a new and meaningful way to end the academic year: Connect 5. Connect 5 refers to the last five days of school, during which students will not attend regular lessons. Instead, they will participate in various House activities. One of the highlights is the Olle walk. As a school, we recently visited Jeoji Oreum, marking the beginning of this initiative. Next year, we hope to visit Geomun Oreum.

Sports Day
Sports Day is a collaborative event where every year group comes together to participate. There are multiple races, and every participation earns points, regardless of the outcome. Therefore, Sports Day is a House competition where the active participation of all members directly contributes to achieving victory.
Summer Fete
The annual Summer Fete has came back! During Summer Fete, every tutor group prepares a booth. Any profits made are going to be gathered and donated.

Farewell
This year, unfortunately, we are facing the departure of many cherished members from our school, and sadly, Geomun is no exception.
Mr. Perry, the former housemaster of Geomun and current Boarding Master of Yongduam, is leaving. He lived with Geomun boys from 2020-2021, greatly impacting current Y10s and Y11s. His dedication, including memorable House BBQs where he cooked brisket, was exceptional. Thank you for your love and care for Geomun and the school. Your legacy will endure.
Ms. Tranmer, the Assistant Head of House for Geomun this year, is also leaving. She supported and organized students for house competitions, establishing a stable system. Her passion and dedication to Geomun are deeply appreciated and will be long remembered. Ms. Menon-Gordon, current G7A tutor, will continue her legacy.
Dr. Liu, tutor of Geomun, is leaving Geomun. He was a Geomun tutor for several years. Geomun would never forget your witty comments and contribution to the house!
Mr.Walsh, tutor of Geomun, is leaving Geomun, although he remains in school. He will serve as the head of PE from next academic year. It is a great disappointment to lose you as a tutor, but we look forward to find you during the lessons.

GEOMUN Non Ducor Duco;
I am not led, I lead
The Geomun Oreum is one of three sites on Jeju recognized for their outstanding ecological and geological importance. The other two sites are Hallasan and Seongsan Ilchulbong.
Geomun House is equally recognized as an outstanding house within NLCS Jeju. The 2022-23 victory in the House Competition was founded on a sense of commitment and togetherness. Geomuners thrive in a House that develops independence and resilience in a relaxed atmosphere where friendship, loyalty and trust are paramount to our success. We win and lose as one family and are there for each other; celebrating, commiserating and supporting together.
The griffin is our symbol and they are known for guarding treasures and possessions; griffins are protectors. In heraldry, the griffin stands for courage, leadership and strength; the perfect symbol for a proud and passionate house.
