Commendations A message from Mr. Heydinger Welcome to the December edition of our Geomuner newsletter. We’re working hard to establish a recognisable and consistent publication, but at the same time respond to feedback and include features and themes that are suggested by our wider Geomun family. In this edition we’ve included some images of Geomuners in lessons (as requested during our parent coffee morning) with teachers kindly accommodating a short interruption to their classes to allow this to take place - I think the teachers enjoyed posing almost as much as the students! As with last year, Geomun House has gone from strength to strength in the House Competition. As the term has progressed we have got better and better. By the time you read this, Mr Scargill will have made his big ‘house points’ announcement in assembly and I have a strong suspicion that it will be good news for us! This success does not happen by accident and I’d like to recognise and applaud the contribution made by our House Leadership Committee, particularly our Year 11 leaders who have given so much time, effort and energy this term. They really do set a superb example to the younger students, and as the Year 11 students prepare for their mock exams we look to the younger leaders to step in and drive the House forward. It has been a very busy, but very successful term and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the whole of the wider Geomun family for their support, feedback and encouragement. The House spirit is strong in Geomun and together we really are greater.

CATS Musical The musical “CATS” was another outstanding event and a lot of Geomuners took part. Below, there are a few Geomuners who took part sharing their experiences.
Darin (Alonzo) The author auditioned for Cats the Musical to pursue their interest in singing and acting. They wanted to develop their skills and experience a new challenge. Joining the musical allowed them to learn about teamwork, leadership, and cooperation. Andy (Munk strap) The author discovered their love for performing after their first stage performance. They enjoy expressing themselves through different characters and participated in Cats to experience the makeup. Despite the grueling rehearsals, they found it worth it for the final moment of feeling like the main character of their life. Alyssa (Demeter) The musical Cats provided an opportunity to express passion for dance, learn a new style, and enjoy singing. Rehearsals allowed for collaboration and choreography experience with talented and energetic new friends. Phillie (Tantomile) The author participated in a production of Cats and discovered that musicals involve many people, not just performers. Despite feeling nervous backstage, the author felt happy and excited while performing and could sense progress after the show. They look forward to participating in future shows.

House Competition Year 9 Leaders This year Geomun House revitalised the spirits rapidly, especially after the success last year. The bond between each individual, and each member has been so close that when we are all mustered as a house, the fervent energy is projected straight away. The sequel after the huge victory of house glee and singing was a chance for me to act as a vice-captain wanting to carry on with competitions like Scrabble scramble, house quiz, and public speaking. These competitions were focused on the collaboration between our year groups predominantly. Personally, the memorable moment was the recent house competition - public speaking. As it was a competition that gave some kind of pressure where our fellow peers had to speak in front of everyone, we did let the process of choosing to defer compared to other house competitions. However, when I saw the ones who were still competing with 100% effort, it made me emotional. Ultimately, all the contributions people made led to us being the first place in that competition. - Chloe Lee Hi Geomun, I’m Andy Park, the current year 9 vice-captain beside Chloe. It’s already been three years since I joined Geomun House and I know that we are the best house in NLCS. This can be easily proven by some of our previous house competitions like the House singing, Glee, and Public speaking. These competitions were completely different genres and required talent, effort and dedication to reach the highest quality, but all three have something in common and I think it is the true beauty of Geomun House. They all required a great amount of teamwork. Nothing in the world goes as planned, and that is the moment when we need to find out our leaders. Not only the house committee themselves but all the others who are stepping out and filling in the gaps for their injured friends. Everyone is a leader in Geomun. I strongly believe if we work as a team, victory will follow. Non Ducor Duco. - Andy Park

Geomun Learners Whilst we are immensely proud of Geomun House and our performance in the House Competitions, we must not forget that our core business is lessons, learning and academic achievement. Here we have a selection of Year 8 and 11 students not only enjoying their learning together, but building and nurturing positive relationships with their teachers and each other. We always remind students of the importance of being kind to themselves and to be kind to each other.

GEOMUN
Non Ducor Duco; I am not led, I lead The Geomun Oreum is one of three sites on Jeju recognized for their outstanding ecological and geological importance. The other two sites are Hallasan and Seongsan Ilchulbong. Geomun House is equally recognized as an outstanding house within NLCS Jeju. The 2022-23 victory in the House Competition was founded on a sense of commitment and togetherness. Geomuners thrive in a House that develops independence and resilience in a relaxed atmosphere where friendship, loyalty and trust are paramount to our success. We win and lose as one family and are there for each other; celebrating, commiserating and supporting together. The griffin is our symbol and they are known for guarding treasures and possessions; griffins are protectors. In heraldry, the griffin stands for courage, leadership and strength; the perfect symbol for a proud and passionate house.
