Iho News 22 September 2023

Message from the BM Nov- Dec Half-term 2023

As the air temperature in Jeju has turned cooler, life in Iho keeps heating up. We shared a searing barbecue with everyone together, mixing up in our gajog groups. We had older girls eating with younger girls, and everyone had to pitch in and make side dishes and clean up at the end. They finished with roasting marshmallows over our fire pit. These are the experiences we as staff really enjoy as true character traits are observed and we witnessed leadership, kindness, perseverance and hard work. A rewarding experience had by all. Our staff really enjoy caring for your daughters and when they show us their positive qualities it is the icing on the cake!

Iho Values Iho - October 2023

Our vision in Iho is summed up by this statement:

We have Integrity Inspired towards Hope And think with an

Open Mind

The girls voted for their favourite values, those they believe will help them with their academic studies, but also their current and future lives. These were the winning values, and as such, the values we promote in our rewards.

Confidence Kindness Determination Collaboration Respect Resilience

Value winners this week: Sophia - (Collaboration) - Genuine care for other students, helping to bring people together. Nina - (Determination) - spent 3 hours voluntarily organising the arts and crafts and not giving up! Harang - (Kindness) - making sure others had food at the bbq

Weekend activities BBQ Party The girls got into their Gajog groups to cook their own dinner - meat, ramen, tofu salad, and, lastly, marshmallows at the bonfire!

Parent Tea IHO - Oct 14 2023

At the parent tea, students had the chance to show around the boarding house, including their ʻcleanʼ rooms, to parents. Wonderful music and food was prepared, and Ms. Washington and Angela went over the new Iho values for this year.

Great Gatsby Party IHO - Nov 25 2023

Saturday, November 25th, was the Iho Great Gatsby Party, entirely organised by the students. From making their own DIY feather headbands, blowing balloons, setting up lights in the atrium, and preparing “champagne” & canapés, the girls prepared a lot to have a wonderful party! For a more detailed video of how the students prepared for the party, check out the iHomies Youtube channel! Video link:

Christmas Celebrations IHO - Dec 9th 2023

The last big event among boarding houses was the Christmas Party. Year groups arranged their own parties in different boarding houses. The next day, the all borders gathered up in the PAC for a Christmas assembly. Mr Scargill, Miss Taylor and Mr Yates talked about the new boarding aims and handed out several awards.

During the party, year 11 had some exciting events! The dinner was already prepared in the party! Pizza, chicken, soda, we all enjoyed them. Secret Santa was a main event of the party, and the whole year 11 in boarding got some presents from their secret santa. Lastly, the highlight of the party was karaoke. Starting from Christmas carols, we sang a number of songs. Year 5-10 played lots of christmas-themed games and enjoyed tasty treats.

We also had our Iho Christmas celebration enjoying secret santa, games, and some new warm socks! Check out the girls video here too!

Messages Iho - September 2023

Sleep As we know, sleep is vital for our daily functioning, but also to maximise what we want to get out of life. This week we have had a big focus on sleep, getting to sleep on time, and maximising the quality and length. It helps to be organised and have a routine each night. We have shown the girls this video to show they need sleep before and after learning to be able to convert the learning from short term to their long term memory.

Reading If your child would like to listen to meditation or sleep music, some girls have found these ipods quite useful to buy because they do not have a messaging function. Also, a pen light can be useful for reading for 15 minutes to help them relax and drift off to sleep without disturbing others. We hope your daughter does not have a secondary device as this would have a dramatic effect on the length and quality of sleep she is receiving.

Until next time… 23 September 2023
