January Pyoseon Newsletter Unity, Achievement, Commitment.

Message from Mrs. Spivey This term has already been busy with activities in the boarding home and excursions of site. The students will write about their year group trips but I have so enjoyed witnessing our grads teaching the students how to cook. Each Friday a different year group had learned how to cook a “family meal” which they can all then enjoy as a group. The year 9s cooked burgers, the year 8s cooked spaghetti bolognese and the year 10s cooked Chili Con Carne. I hope that when they come home for half term they will be able to try out their new skills at home! The Bryants are well underway and the girls have been enjoying a wide variety of activities. 2 of our students head off early on Saturday mornings to play golf and I was excited to hear that one has even scored a par on one hole! The year 11s have not had such an easy start to the Spring Term with their mock examinations beginning in the first week. I have been extremely proud of the mature way in which they have approached these examinations and found a healthy balance between study and sleep. The staff team hope that you have a wonderful break filled with vital family time, rest and relaxation and we look forward to welcoming the students back to Pyoseon from 2pm on Sunday 18th February.

Year 7 Boarders Trip to Vounce Year 5 to 7 students from all houses participated in some weekend activities, and for one weekend we went to Vaunce! It was an activity to play with each other in somewhere like Kids cafe. They played with zip lines or trampolines. All of the year 5 to 7 students said that they enjoyed this trip and hope to have this opportunity again.

Year 8 Boarders Trip to 981 Park

In January, all of the Y8 borders went on a trip to 981 Park! All the Pyoseon students were excited and we chatted about how fun it would be and couldn't hold our excitement. It’s mostly the first time we actually visit 981 Park and enjoy all the activities inside it. First, we were divided into three teams and entered the survival zone. It was a zone where we shoot each other with guns. You might hear it as dangerous activity, but actually it isn’t because they are all laser guns so we are not shooting objects physically it’s just a laser. Next, we rode bumper cars and it was kind of interesting and different from the other ones. The marking method is different; it only works if we bump from the back or the side. Then, we had time to hang out with our own friends where there are lots of games we can try: basketball, football, horse riding, balling, and etc. We had such a fun time while we were competing with each other, but also helping and enjoying the cafe. It was a very memorable trip during this year since we also had a chance to get closer with the other Y8s!

Year 9 Boarders Trip to the Cinema At the start of the new year, the entire Year 9 boarding went on a memorable trip to the CGV to watch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It was a great opportunity for the year 9 students to bond and to capture unforgettable moments. The exciting year group trip to the movies not only provided a delightful break from routine, but also fostered lasting memories for all.

Year 10 Boarders Trip to Tapdong The trip to Tapdong was a lovely time for all of us, as it gave us, year 10s especially, a time to relax for a few hours, with the many assessments and tasks going on. We all love shopping and eating, and this trip gave us a chance to spend time with our friends outside the school campus. Because my friends and I had a big test in a few days, we went to a cafe in Tapdong after eating some food and studied chemistry. Although we studied during the time, it was a nice time, where we were able to refresh our minds in a different environment for a short period of time.

Ice Skating by Joanna (grad) On Sunday 21st January Iho and Pyoseon all went ice-skating together. We walked to the fabulous BHA ice-rink and managed to get all the students in the correct sized boots reasonably quickly! There was a vast range of ability of skaters on the ice and while some of the beginners resembled Bambi at the beginning, Eunice and Eban looked like Olympic champions. Despite these varying abilities, everyone enjoyed skating with the “dolphins” and for some it was perhaps a life-saver! The was a huge amount of enthusiasm for repeating this activity and it’s definitely something to be we will do again soon.
