S. Congress from Florida, and Mayor of Miami Dade County. In one of the most hotly contested and controversial presidential elections in recent history, NMB Seniors chose Hillary Clinton by a margin of 72 % to 13% over her competitor, Donald Trump. In the US Senate race, Seniors also went against Florida, electing Patrick Murphy with 56% of the vote over Marco Rubio with 27%. In the local mayor race, NMB Seniors agreed with local voters and chose incumbent Carlos Gimenez over

NMB Girls’ Basketball Season is Here! by Yamilet Nunez

The Girls varsity and JV kicks off their first games in the month of November. The girls basketball team has two coaches this year; Coach Cherizol for varsity and Coach Alize for junior varsity. The number of girls in the varsity gteam is the same as last year’s. As for the JV team, quite a bunch of 9th and 10th grade girls have joined. With a total of over a month of practice, the JV girls’ team will begin their games on November 28. Varsity girls started earlier. Currently, the games against Miami Springs and North Miami are cancelled until further notice. Until then the JV team has enough time to practice for their first game on November 28 with Northwestern. More games will be announced as soon as possible. There will be a lack of JV games, because most schools won’t be having any JV teams. For now, the game on November 28 is still a go.

NMB mock election, continued from page 1 Raquel Regalado with 53% and 47% of the vote, respectively. Senior Economics and U. S. Government Teacher Mr. Pallais, says that “the mock election is meant, in part, to make students start thinking of themselves as voters early on so that they will be more likely to vote when they are able to do so. The mock election will serve to prepare students for the adulthood ritual of casting their votes, and making students into better citizens.” Students were able to view the results of their mock election on November 9 and compare their preferences to the results of the actual election on November 8 as well as to other Miami Dade County Public Schools who participated in the process also. Mr. Ramsauer, another Senior Economics and U. S. Government teacher thinks that “one of the primary goals of a Social Studies education should be to train citizens for the democratic society in which we live and give students every opportunity to participate in that process in whatever ways that they can. This experience gave students the opportunity to learn first-hand about the most fundamental right as a citizen, the power of the vote!” Other Senior Economics and U. S. Government teachers who participated with their students in the mock election included Ms. Jean and Mr. Boyd.
