February Workforce Development Series Programs: RETURNING TO THE WORKFORCE
BRING YOUR RÉSUMÉ NIGHT
This program is for those who are returning to the workforce after a period of unemployment due to life circumstances like parenthood or incarceration or for those entering the job market again but don’t know how to begin after being out of the workforce for many years. Attendees will learn the “how” of finding that employer and position that fits their unique skill set as well as how to present themselves in interviews for a positive outcome. Prior to the program, attendees should take the Professionally You survey online and may request the survey codes by emailing Jessica Rareshide at jrareshide@mindspring. com and including “survey” in the subject line.
Attendees of this program should bring at least two copies of their résumé for Jessica Rareshide to review and make recommendations on any changes to improve it. She will also ask important résumé questions specific to their experience and targeted position. Attendees should arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time and sign in to have their résumé reviewed.

Treasures from the Carnival Collection Costumes are a part of the fabric of Carnival. Riders in parades coordinate with their floats, parade goers plan elaborate costumes for a year and some of us grab a wig and some glitter on Mardi Gras morning as we run out of the house. Costumes are just one more expression of a season represented by pageantry, opulence and escapism. Costumes can be works of art in their own right. This can be seen in the pencil, ink and watercolor drawings of the Léda Hincks Plauché Collection. The collection includes her own work as well as work of an earlier designer, Bror Anders Wikstrom. Plauché, a native New Orleanian, designed her first Carnival ball for the Krewe of Nereus in 1916 and, over the next forty years, she included the krewes of Rex, Proteus, Comus, and Momus among her clients. Wikstrom began as an apprentice to Rex's float and costume designer in 1883 and later designed for both Rex and Proteus. This collection was donated to the Library in 1958. As you create your costume this year, consider the classic and elegant designs created by these two artists. They can provide some inspiration and perhaps a bit of envy, but serve as a tribute to the beauty that is a part of Carnival. Happy Masking! To see more of the Carnival Collection from the Louisiana Division/City Archives & Special Collections, visit archives. nolalibrary.org, email archivist@nolalibrary.org, or call 504-5962610 to schedule a research appointment.
