FROM THE EDITOR Welcome to the January/Spring edition of the Nola Wedding Guide. If you are reading this, chances are you are either newly engaged or about to be married. This is one of the most exciting times of your life and should be appreciated and enjoyed as such. I would strongly encourage you to find the joy in each and every detail of your wedding planning. Make it a priority to work together with your significant other so that you can create a lifetime of wedding planning memories. It will all go by so quickly. My hope is that you can remember it all fondly and that the Nola Wedding Guide will be an integral part of your wedding planning. We have four great editorials in this issue and we are very proud of all of them. Our first, entitled Stella, was shot at Stella Plantation and is breathtaking in its view of the beautiful trees and land. A beautiful rose gold tablescape was also a highlight of the shoot, along with a beautifully extravagant wedding cake. Who doesn’t love to eat! We were so fortunate to shoot a sampling of food from world-renowned celebrity Chef John Besh that featured five different restaurants. The sight and smell of the food was unbelievable. I wish we were scratch and sniff! Our next shoot, Beasts of the Southern Wild, was shot at the historic Civic Theatre in New Orleans. The flowers in this shoot were over the top and an air of wildness permeates the images. This was a very imaginative shoot and featured multiple models and dresses. It came out beautifully and also inspired our cover image, which we think is breathtaking. Our last editorial, Ultra Chic, took place at the AC Hotel near the French Quarter. This was a very contemporary, modern shoot that not only shows off the various spaces of the hotel, but also some beautiful hair and makeup work on our stunning models. A huge thank you to all of our vendors and models who generously gave of their time and talent to create these stunning editorials. It was truly a labor of love! Wishing you all a blessed wedding day!

9 ways to save on the cake by Carolyn Abadie

1. Simple is better. Order a smaller two or three tiered cake for cutting and have a sheet cake in the kitchen for all guest to have a slice. This is great when the guest list is 250+. 2. Choose the butter cream icing over the fondant because fondant requires more labor and materials and can hurt your pocketbook. 3. Choosing a standard flavor for your cake can help decrease the budget. Vanilla and chocolate are sure to be guest favorites, while saving an extra dollar for you. 4. Instead of sugar flowers, try chocolate covered fruits or real flowers. Fresh fruit is always delicious and the real flowers can be used as a decorative piece on the table after the cake is gone. 5. Have various desserts for the guests. Some guests may prefer pies to cakes. Not to mention, cakes are priced per slice, while pies do not require icing applications and are therefore less expensive. Cupcakes, cookies and brownies are other great options. 6. Serve doughnuts or beignets. This is very trendy and screams New Orleans wedding. 7. DIY. Buy brownies or cookies from the store and decorate them yourself. You can make this a fun night for you and your bridesmaids and make the baked goods yourself. 8. Add some dimension to the dessert table by having a few different sizes and heights of desserts. This will make your dessert table look more expensive than it really is. 9. Have friends and family bake for you. If you have an aunt who just loves to bake, she will surely love to prepare something for your big day and she will feel honored to have contributed to such a special and important occasion.

S t e p s To Cre at i ng You r #we d d in ghashtag by Sarah Peneguy
1. BEGIN WITH YOUR NAMES: Decide what mood you are aiming for: Do you want to be funny? Sweet? Sophisticated? Some couples go with a combination of each other’s names, or some just have their future last name and the date. It all depends on what style exemplifies you as a couple. Have fun with it!. Brainstorm together over wedding magazines and champagne. This is nothing to stress about.
4. BE SURE YOUR HASHTAG IS ORIGINAL: It would be terribly confusing to share a hashtag with another wedding. Make sure - before you declare the hashtag as yours – that it’s the one and only, and that no other weddings are tagged to it. If so, you might want to add the wedding date to your hashtag, change the pun, or switch which name goes first to dispel further confusion.
2. MAKE IT EASY ON YOUR GUESTS: Try to choose a hashtag that is simple to remember. Whether you make it rhyme, use alliteration, or just your names – keeping it memorable is the way to go! Also, try to be wary about placing words with similar ending and beginning letters next to each other – just to avoid guests misspelling your hashtag!
5. GET THE WORD OUT: Once you’ve created your wedding hashtag, you need to make sure everyone knows what it is. A good way to do this is to place your hashtag on your save-the-dates, and make sure to place small cute signs around your venue: Possibly one where the guests sign in and placed randomly along the tables, and you could even have someone make an announcement about it! Again, have fun with it! Don’t stress – this is most likely the easiest part of the planning process.
3. CAPITALIZATION IS KEY: Another way to steer clear of mishaps is to capitalize the beginning letter of each word. This makes it easier for your guests to read.

PLANNING
Stacy Marks
When you apply for your marriage license, at least one party must appear in person. He or she must have all the necessary information and documents outlined below.
1.
State law requires a certified copy of each party’s birth certificate, if born in Louisiana. Passports are not acceptable. If either party was born out-of-state, a waiver can be submitted. If either party was born out-of-country, a valid passport, naturalization papers, or green card, along with a valid state ID card or driver’s license must be presented at the office, and to a judge to obtain a waiver.
2. If either party is divorced, he/she must present a certified copy of the final divorce decree. 3. If either party is widowed, he/she must present a certified copy of a death certificate. 4. Each party must know his/her social security number, but no documentation is required. 5. Both bride and groom will need to complete a marriage license application; forms can be presented by either applicant in person.
18
nola wedding guide
www. n o l a we d d i n g g u i d e. co m
Age Requirements If either applicant is under 18 years of age, but more than 16, the marriage is lawful and a license may be issued if the applicants provide: written consent of both parents (or custodian), or an order from a judge or juvenile court. In the event the applicant is under 16, all the above three things will be required.
General Information A Louisiana license is valid in any parish in Louisiana for 30 days. There is a 72-hour waiting period between the time of issuance and the ceremony. Only a district judge or Justice of the Peace can waive this. Newlyweds should order a certified copy of their marriage license two weeks after the marriage to ensure that the license has been returned and recorded.by Louis Photography

S Sal and I actually met through a group of mutual friends over five years ago. We started dating after tailgating at a LSU football game!
Sal proposed to me on the beautiful Easter Day, April 20, 2014, at my parent’s house in Mandeville, LA. I was definitely caught by surprise and I was so excited to start this new journey together!
Wedding planning was actually very easy and simple. I had basically everything planned by October of 2014. I knew what venue, florist, photographer, videographer and everything else I wanted on our special day. However, there were definitely stressful days, I must say, and it was not always easy and smooth sailing.
The most memorable moment or our wedding was just having everything finally coming together – a moment I have waited so long for! Having all of our friends and family there with us made everything so much more special! I wish we could relive that night over and over and over again!
Sal and I are so glad to finally be husband and wife. We are ready to start this new life together!

Money Dance? by Carolyn Abadie
The money dance is a custom performed across the globe in places such as South Africa, the United States and Europe. The money dance or the dollar dance, as it is referred to in some cultures, is a dance that lets each guest have a turn on the dance floor with the bride or groom. A guest is to give the bride or groom a dollar, usually more, for a dance. The bride can either have the money pinned on her dress, have a little wristlet made just for the dance or have the maid of honor or best man be in charge of accepting the money. The money from the dance can help the newlyweds with their honeymoon expenses, or be put towards starting their new life together. At many weddings, this is a fun and interactive part of the reception that many guests anticipate. A montage of songs is usually played so that everyone has a chance to participate. Timing this dance is a vital part of the reception. It is often better to have the money dance about midway through the reception so that you can dance with all of your guests before the early birds start to leave. It is the maid of honor and the best man’s duty to make sure that the guests who would like a dance line up, and to keep the line moving so that everyone gets their moment on the dance floor with the bride and groom.
50
Not to Dance
To Dance
There are many different opinions on whether or not a couple should have a money dance at all. Guests may get offended by the idea of feeling obligated to participate. Some people view the money dance as a plea for a cash gift and an awkward, forced dance. People may believe that the dance is tacky or tasteless, or that an upscale event like a wedding should not have a segment for the bride and groom to beg for cash. If the songs go on too long, the guests may get annoyed. Make sure the music reflects the line of people waiting to participate and once the line gets low, start to wrap it up.
Especially here in the south, the money dance is often a staple in the reception just as a second line is the traditional way to close out the evening. Most guests look forward to having this special one on one time with the bride or groom. We all know how busy they are during the reception with so many things to do and people to see, and the money dance is guaranteed face time, even if it is just for a few seconds. It can also be a great opportunity for the photographer and videographer to get some great shots of the bride and groom interacting with a variety of guests.

We love to feature real couples as much as we can in the Nola Wedding Guide. Their stories and ideas serve as inspiration to our readers, and we also enjoy hearing all about their love and wedding planning experiences. One of the most popular ways to tell these stories is through our Featured Couple Facebook Contest. Since we started the contest a few years ago, it has grown into a much anticipated and highly coveted staple for each issue. This issue’s winners of our Featured Couple contest are Kelsey Matthews and Zachary Pollock. Their wedding will be on October 22, 2016, and we are happy to share their love story and wedding plans. NWG: How did you meet? Kelsey: We met in high school through mutual friends. We sat next to each other in English class when we were getting to know each other.
Zachary: We went out to eat at Cannon’s Restaurant, and then went to the Prom. After Prom, we went to a friend’s party. NWG: Describe your courtship. Kelsey: We attended the University of New Orleans together. After graduating college, we both went onto secure full-time jobs. He proposed to me in August 2015, and shortly after we purchased our first home together. We’ve recently adopted a puppy, Rocco, to start our little family. Zachary: We dated for six years through high school and college. Once I graduated from UNO, I started my career. I knew it was time to start planning for an engagement. NWG: How did he propose?
Zachary: We met in high school and we went to Junior Prom together.
Kelsey: He proposed to me while we were on vacation in Florida. We were on the beach taking photos with my friends. Zachary, suddenly, got down on one knee; he found a shell on the beach that he wanted me to see. He, then, pulled out a golden shell with a ring inside.
NWG: Describe your first date.
NWG: How has the planning gone so far?
Kelsey: Our first date was our Junior Prom at Destrehan High School. He did a ‘promposal’ with a sign on my bedroom window. When he first asked, we were going together just as friends, but we’ve been inseparable ever since.
Kelsey: Planning has been going well. We have all the big things taken care of. Now it’s on to the finer details. Zachary: Planning has been going very well so far. w w w . n o l aw ed d i n g g u i d e. co m

NWG: Tell us about some of your wedding vendors. Kelsey: Our wedding ceremony will take place at St. Charles United Methodist Church in Destrehan. The reception is at Cypress Lakes Country Club at Ormond Plantation. Our photographer is Studio Roe. My dress is from Bustles and Bows Bridal Boutique. Zachary: Kelsey knows all about that. NWG: Any advice for future couples? Kelsey: We’ve been together since we were sixteen, so we know our fair share of growing pains. Fortunately, we chose to grow closer together instead of apart. In marriage, the goal is to grow old together, and the way to achieve that is by continuing to grow together. Always keep communication open and definitely listen more than you talk. Zachary: Remember to have patience. It may be tough, but working to make it last will be worth it.

ADVICE
W i sb er i d e Two Showers?
to wait a few years after the engagement to start planning a wedding? ~ Anna Murphy, New Orleans, La.
Q
Can I have a family shower and a separate shower for the rest of the wedding party? ~ Suzanne Farrell, Bush, La.
A
This is actually a good idea for all of the future in-laws to meet each other intimately before the big events start. No one would give you trouble for trying to make everything more enjoyable for everyone, just make sure you make it obvious that you are not asking for double gifts. Maybe have a nice ‘family” dinner to keep it casual.
Bridesmaid Meet and Greet
Broke Bridesmaids
Q
What should I do if my bridesmaids can’t afford the bridal shower and bachelorette party I am hoping for? I really want everything to be perfect, but I know some people can’t spend too much. ~ Michelle Leaver, Kenner, La.
A
First, I would have a meeting with all of your bridesmaids, or even separately, just to see how much each person wants, and can afford, to spend. You may have to make some compromises. Your bridesmaids will do what it takes to make everything special for you, but try to make your expectations realistic. Compromise is key and remember, its not about how much money is spent, rather it is about spending quality time together.
Long Engagement
Q
My fiancé caught me completely off guard when he proposed to me. We can’t afford a wedding just yet! Is it wrong
74
nola wedding guide
A
Take as long as you need to plan your special day! It is, after all, a once in a lifetime event. You can definitely start thinking about ideas and open a special savings account that is just for the wedding. You shouldn’t feel as if you have to rush. Make sure no one tries to pressure you into committing to a date before you are ready. A wedding should not be a financial hardship.
www. n o l a we d d i n g g u i d e. co m
Q
I want to have a bridesmaid’s luncheon because a lot of my bridesmaids don’t know one another and I want them to have a chance to become friends before all of the wedding festivities begin. Would I be asking too much out of my bridesmaids to have a “getting to know you” luncheon? Do you think this is necessary? ~ Katie Adams, Gonzales, La.
A
This is entirely up to you. If you feel that the bridal party will benefit from this, then I say go for it! Having a luncheon is a great way to get together and discuss upcoming events, dates, plans, etc. It’s also a great time for some cute photos! If you know your bridesmaids have hectic schedules and it’s becoming a hassle to get them all together for one afternoon, I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over it. There will be multiple opportunities to meet and become well acquainted before the wedding.

W We spent the morning in a beautiful bridal suite at the Windsor Court Hotel. My dad surprised me with a necklace to wear that day. It was my mother’s original engagement diamond and it was surrounded by a halo of my grandmother’s diamonds. Garrett also sent me a gift that morning. It was a Bible with my name inscribed on it. Then he wrote the lyrics of our first dance song in the inside cover, so sweet.
We actually had plenty of time to sit, relax, and have a glass of champagne after pictures were done, which was really nice. I did a reveal to my dad with my mother and grandmother, and sister-in-law there with me. Those are some of my favorite pictures. My photographer stood behind me taking picture over my shoulder when my dad and brothers came in. It was a special moment.
I wasn’t nervous at all, it was all excitement! When the doors of the church opened it was such a rush and flood of so many emotions. I was walked down the aisle by the first man I ever loved to be handed off to the love of my life. Garrett was all smiles and so handsome. When he shook my dad’s hand, Garrett promised him that he would take care of his little girl. It was such a sweet moment for all of us.
The reception was AMAZING! Everyone was on the dance floor the entire night just having a blast. It was truly the greatest day of my life. I will remember it forever and cherish all of the good memories.

10 TIPS to FINDING THE Perfect Wedding Dress by Carolyn Abadie
82
nola wedding guide
www. n o l a we d d i n g g u i d e. co m
1 2 3 4 5
Research. Get an idea of what you want to look like on your wedding day before you go into the boutiques; having an idea of what you like will make your appointment go smoothly.
Do not bring a large entourage with you, the more people to please, the more difficult it will be.
Undergarments can change the entire look and feel of the dress. Wear the ones you plan to wear for your special day or something close in style. Also try to wear the size of the heel you would like to wear as well. It will make it easier to decide if you can walk in the dress and heels.
Make sure the dress you choose looks great from every angle. You will have pictures taken from every angle so do the full 360 before saying yes.
If mom would like you to try on a dress, just do it. Make your mom happy, even if you don’t choose it.
6
Don’t buy a discounted dress. This is your big day so spend the extra money to feel like a goddess.
7
Don’t be afraid to try on some styles you didn’t think you could love; you never know until you try it on.
8
Some salons will take requests if you call in advance to try on gowns. They can call ahead of time to get the sample you requested for your fitting.
9
If you want to change anything on the dress it will cost you. Even adding a little lace can cost up to $200 extra.
10
Don’t shop too early and end up trying on too many dresses. On average, women try on about 10 wedding gowns before they choose one. This can cloud your vision of the way you want to look.

Dress to Impress
PLANNING
The thing that makes the Ball Gown Wedding Dress, a.k.a, the “Fairy-Tale wedding gown” a truly idyllic style is its flattering adherence to practically any body type. Usually matched with fitted bodices, these dresses flare out from the hips, providing just the right amount of sensational and over-the-top glamour. A fitted waist works best for this design, and petite body types may find these dresses a bit overpowering for their small frames. However, if high drama and spellbinding impact are what you’re striving for on the big day, you can’t go wrong with this dress!
84
nola wedding guide
www. n o l a we d d i n g g u i d e. co m
The Modified A-Line features a skirt that slips lightly past the hips and gradually flares to the hem, forming an “A shape. Slightly less forgiving than the A-Line Wedding dress-which flatters most body types-the modified A-line fits more snugly against the body. Petite women love this dress because of its elongating qualities and ultimate figure flattery!
The Trumpet Gown, like the Mermaid, hugs the body and really emphasizes the shape. However, the Trumpet dress is easier to walk in as it is slightly fuller and flares higher on the leg. If you’re not the most graceful of brides but still want the sleek, sexy look that the mermaid gown provides, the trumpet gown is your best option.

85
PLANNING
The Sheath Gown is made to fit close to the body, with little accoutrement. Usually falling to just around the knees or lower thighs, this gown is especially great for summer weddings, but can also be great for the fall. Its basic column-like design makes it easy to dress up or down and accessories like satin sashes can be easily added to cinch the waist and accentuate most figures.
The Mermaid is snugly fit through the bodice, down through the hips, all the way to the knees before flaring out at about the mid or lower calf. This curve-hugging gown is certain to show off all the right parts of the female form. Hourglass figures or women with athletic, boyish body types will love this dress, but petite women may find that it makes them appear shorter. If you are fit but buxom, this sexy gown is for you!

C Chris and I met in January 2012, at the inaugural ball for Mississippi’s Governor. He was behind me in line at the carving station. After I walked away with my food I heard a man’s voice from behind me say, “You’re from Louisiana, aren’t you?” I turned around and there stood Chris! When I asked him how he knew that, he told me he could just tell.
Chris proposed on the rooftop of a Warehouse District building overlooking the city. He suggested that we have a drink on the roof before heading out to dinner. As luck would have it, a massive rainstorm moved over us as he knelt down on one knee to propose. We were drenched, but it didn’t even matter because we were engaged!
Overall, the wedding planning process was enjoyable! Chris and I are proud Louisiana natives and wanted to use as many Louisiana vendors as possible. Living three hours away in Jackson, MS made planning a bit difficult. We had to rely heavily on family and friends to help us.
Well, it’s safe to say that I didn’t anticipate getting sick and missing out on all of the rehearsal festivities the day before our wedding. However, thanks to Emergency Care and the many prayers of friends and family, I was well enough to walk down the aisle the next day and marry the man of my dreams.
Our band was incredible and really worked the crowd, and “The Pickle Bar” was a hit! Chris and I were so happy to hear that everyone really enjoyed themselves! It really meant a lot to us that our friends and family could be there to celebrate this special moment in our lives.

Wedding Lighting Basics by Carolyn Abadie
Lighting can set the mood anywhere and enhance any space no matter the situation. Here are a few tips to lighting up your night.
Get a good look at the venue so you can start planning where to place your lighting. Make sure that the lights are not in the way of the guests and that guests will not trip over them.
Talk to your photographer about the lighting. You don’t want your room lighting to affect your wedding pictures.
Choose the right lighting for the venue. Do you want artificial or real lighting? If your reception will be outdoors, candle lighting can be a problem due to the elements. If the reception is inside, too many LED lights can be too bright.
Using different colored lights can add an unseen element to the evening. Go with blue lights for a winter wonderland feel or orange and yellow for a spring time ambiance. The ambient lighting does not have to match the colors of your wedding.
White Christmas lights are an alternative and easy to use for outdoor or indoor receptions. Wrap the lights around the trees, chairs or posts to light up the night. Drape the lights over a mantle or shelves to add a little back lighting.

PLANNING
2016 Top Spring Wedding Trends by Nadia Ramadan
Whether you are planning an intimate ceremony in a French Quarter courtyard, or the party of the year at a sprawling Louisiana plantation; give your big day a seasonal makeover with my top wedding trends this spring.
Blushing Bride Picking your wedding colors will be one of the first of many challenging decisions you will have to make when planning for your wedding. Color is important because it dictates the style and mood of your big day. Fortunately for you, color-trend forecasters at the Pantone Color Institute make choosing your wedding colors a much less daunting task by naming their 2016 color of the yearRose Quartz. Similar to a blush color, Rose Quartz is not only on trend, but pink is a classic color choice. Pair Rose Quartz with gold to create a timeless and romantic color combination for your event.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Maximize your wedding decor with well-placed mirrors throughout the space. Mirrors are an easy way to bounce light, alter a view, or reflect a little personality into the space. Place centerpieces onto large mirrored trays to make them look twice the size. For a bold statement, create a wall of mirrors. Hang different sized frames at varying heights to create a truly unique focal point.
Metallic Moments From foil stationary to gold leafed chandeliers – metallic finishes continue to be on trend for 2016! Just a touch of glimmering metal can make a space instantly more dazzling. The trick to using hard metallic finishes is to combine them with soft elements. Display soft, fresh flowers in a bold gold vase to make a balanced centerpiece. Be sure to mix polished metals with brushed finishes to create different tones and textures in your space. Just like adding mirrors to a space to brighten it up, metal finishes can achieve the same stunning effect.
Acrylic Chairs - Clearly on Trend These days, when choosing guest seating for your wedding, the sky’s the limit. But if you really want to stay on trend, choose acrylic chairs. This modern twist on seating works perfectly at outdoor ceremonies. Guests can focus on the natural beauty of the venue, rather than the design of the chairs in front of them. Transparent acrylic chairs are also popular in smaller reception areas where too many furniture pieces can make the space looked cluttered. Guests will be able to see through your seating choices and focus on your stunning centerpieces.
Not only will you save some money for your honeymoon; but DIY projects will make the space feel more personalized for your guests.
Expect the Unexpected “Wedding” is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the zoo, aquarium or local museum. Not only are these out-of-the-box locations different, but they will definitely have your guests talking for years to come! Be sure to keep your location in mind when thinking of your décor. These venues can provide stunning and unique backdrops for your special day. Guests can focus more on the scenery of the location, rather than unnecessary details that they might need at other venues.

Go Wild with Daisies Let your love bloom while walking down the aisle with a sweet and simple daisy bouquet. Forget about complicated centerpiece arrangements and opt for fresh, wild and beautiful touches. Do-it-yourself bouquets are exceedingly more popular at less formal affairs. You can easily make your own bouquet by first starting with a single daisy stem and then twisting other blooms around the center flower. w w w . n o l aw ed d i n g g u i d e. co m

M We met through mutual friends at least a year before we started dating. We seemed to always be at the same place at the same time. We eventually went on our first date at Little Tokyo in Mid City and the rest is history.
He proposed to me on a regular Thursday night. We were in our bedroom that evening, and he gave me a package to open. After pulling out various items, I discovered a ring box. I was dumbfounded; he took the box from me and got down on one knee.
Wedding planning was hectic! Initially, the hardest part was finding a venue that reflected who we were as a couple. My next obstacle was sticking with a color scheme. I must have changed my mind five to six times before choosing eggplant and gold.
My favorite part was walking down the aisle to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” and seeing the look on Shean’s face when he saw me. It was indescribable! I also enjoyed dancing all night and the sparkler send off!

5 Signs that Wedding Planning has taken over your life by Carolyn Abadie
When thinking about your wedding becomes a nightmare instead of a dream come true. Don’t forget that this is supposed to be a fun, once in a lifetime experience, and it should be joyful.
Have you become a mindless zombie when people ask you about your wedding? Do you respond to them with a groaning mumble? You may have let planning your wedding turn into a hassle in your life. Here are five signs that you are stressing over the details way too much.
You skip out on lunch or happy hour to go run wedding errands. If you plan properly, you will not have these last minute errands to run and can enjoy some lunch every now and then.
Your maid-of-honor and bridesmaids have stopped answering your phone calls. When you can’t get in touch with the bridal party, chances are they are stressing out because you are stressing out and stress is contagious. Take a deep breath!
When you talk to the wedding planner more than you talk to your fiancé. Don’t let things at home suffer because you are too busy planning. Many engaged couples lose the spark that started it all during the planning stage. Don’t let that happen to you.
When your mother, father and fiancé have all asked you to just elope instead. You have probably become a bridezilla, if you get to this stage. You have let the wedding consume you and the stress has reached an all time high.

M Friend & lead singer of the Bag of Donuts, Bobby Hoerner officiated our wedding. His speech about love was particularly moving.
Seeing Kassie for the very first time in Mr. Tutera’s dress moved me to tears as she walked down the aisle. ~ Jack
The moment I stepped onto that platform, it all became real. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. It was the happiest I had ever felt. ~ Kassie
We honeymooned to San Francisco first and then on to Napa Valley. The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel was top notch! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. They moved us to a room with a view for our honeymoon that was a VIEW to remember! In Napa we stayed at the 1801 1st street Bed & Breakfast and would recommend this place to ANYONE! The owners, Blaire & Carrie, were amazing. We were greeted with champagne & truffles, which they make in house. The room was gorgeous and the breakfast area was so lovely. We rented a convertible and drove through the vineyards, taking in all the beauty around us.

F There was a significant date in her personal history that led her to believe the proposal would happen then. She ended up having a minor surgery that day though. The end result was a complete surprise to her. I proposed to her, privately, on our couch while she was wrapped in a robe. The result was sweet, sincere, and just between us. It was perfect.
The planning was actually a piece of cake. Once we selected The Chicory as a venue they handled most of the details. I own an events company, so it was just a day in the office for me.
My favorite moment was when we did a first look and seeing Casie as my bride was knee buckling. Another moment was during our first song with Marc Broussard singing. That was special as well.
I loved our 4-tiered cake from Gambino’s. Forgoing a traditional groom’s cake, a huge ivory colored sculpture of our last initial “F” was stacked with traditional Italian cookies and cannolis from Brocatto’s.
The crowd went completely wild when “selfie sticks” were handed out during the last dance. As a final ambush surprise for Casie, the second line brass band “Kinfolk” stormed onto the dance floor. The wedding party left the building and we briefly celebrated on the street, surprising tourists and pedestrians with an impromptu parade.

PLANNING
2016 OUTDOOR WEDDING Almanac In New Orleans, outdoor ceremonies are as common as roast beef poboys. Our sub tropical climate keeps our weather pleasant year round and contributes to making our city an ideal backdrop for your special day. However, an outdoor ceremony can sometimes be tricky to plan. Knowing some basic information such as which months are the rainiest, the average temperature for each month and what time the sun sets, may mean the difference in planning for a spring wedding or holding off until the fall to get your ideal climate conditions. Also, knowing the sunset times can be crucial for getting your wedding photos just right. We have put together an almanac to assist you in planning your outdoor wedding ceremony.

Your Reception: How to set the tone with
Music
You carefully choose the venue, flowers, cakes, and the hundreds of other details to ensure that you have the wedding of your dreams. All of the elements are put together to create a scene for your guests to be transported to another place and time, if only for a few hours during your reception. However, one of, if not the most important aspects to setting the mood with any party is music. Music sets the tone and becomes a way to bring all of your friends and family onto the dance floor to share in an unforgettable moment. But how does one pick that epic soundtrack for the greatest time had by all? There are a few guidelines that almost any good wedding band or DJ follow. Here are just a few: 1. The music at your reception should coincide with the timeline of events. You don’t want to have hip/hop, high-energy dance or hard rock playing as your guests arrive. You also don’t want to have dinner music playing at the last half hour of the reception, either. There is a flow to the course of a reception, as the energy gradually builds towards the last hour. Having someone in control of your music that realizes this is paramount. 2. Remember that your guests will range in age, so pick music that will appeal to everyone. Your older guests will appreciate a few golden oldies and slow songs thrown into the mix. This will likely keep them on the dance floor even when the more modern songs are played. 3. Don’t micromanage your entertainment. Ask your bandleader or DJ if they have a song list for you to choose some songs. This will give them an idea of what you like, while still giving them the freedom to read the crowd and change accordingly. Remember, they do this a lot more than you, so they tend to know what will work and what won’t in any given situation. 4. When choosing the first dances, be mindful that the songs are appropriate in content and length. Some people just don’t like the spotlight, so a shorter version of the chosen song can be considered. Also, listen carefully to the lyrics and make sure they relate to the people who are dancing. Some love songs have lyrics that are about generic love, but some are specific to romantic love, so they may not be well suited for a parent’s dance. The best rule of thumb to follow for a wonderful time at your reception is this: If the bride is out on the dance floor having a great time, her guests will surely follow. So, get out there and celebrate your love with those who love and support you most!

B We met through a mutual friend after the Irish Channel Parade. We were both eating at Joey K’s and Albert was in his kilt eating a steak. I had confronted him about the steak. He knew, at that moment, that I was it for him.
I came home from work on a Thursday and he told me to come outside. There was a ring box on the swing. My hands were shaking and I opened the box only to find a note inside! He had planned a surprise vacation to Jamaica, where he then proposed on the beach at night. Everything was perfect and I was so surprised!
Planning for the wedding was stressful, but in the end it was all worth it! My advice is to not sweat the small stuff. No one will notice if anything is wrong, including you, on the day of the wedding!
My favorite moment was the first look. Seeing my husband react to me in my wedding dress made me feel so beautiful and as if I was the luckiest girl in the world.
Our band was absolutely amazing! The lead singer had me singing “Proud Mary” and everyone was surrounding us singing and dancing. The dancing continued through the night!

1. you can either have your dress professionally preserved, or you can do it yourself. Either way, your dress should be cleaned within six weeks following your wedding day. Even the smallest stains cause the dress to yellow over time.

If you choose to take things into your own hands, then you must first decide between box and hanger. storage. It may be more practical to store the dress in a box, but hanger storage is the best way to prevent hardto-remove creases. Either way, buy plenty of acid-free tissue paper. For box storage, line an acid-free cardboard box with the tissue paper and lay the hem of the dress in the box. Fold the dress like an accordion, putting tissue paper between each fold. stuff the bodice of the dress with crumpled tissue. Put some layers of tissue on top and put on the lid (make sure the lid is solid and does not have a plastic window). store the box in a cool, dry closet. Check the condition of the dress each year, and re-pack so the folds are in different places.

Professional gown preservation costs between $150 and $500, depending on the amount of soilage. It is recommended to bring your dress to a reputable dry cleaner who cleans about 100 dresses or more a year.

5.
For hanger storage, wrap a wide hanger with cotton batting and cover it with muslin. Buy an acid free cardboard “dress shaper” and place it over the hanger. Wrap it in tissue and place the dress over it. stuff the bodice of the dress and any deep folds with the acid-free tissue paper. Cover the dress with a muslin garment bag and hang it in a cool, dry closet, taking care not to crush it with other clothing. Check the dress each year and wash the muslin cover.
