From the Editor

Hello and welcome to our Spring issue. As we begin this new year, in lieu of writing about how great our current issue turned out, and how proud and grateful I am to work with everyone involved in its production, I would like to share a few words about marriage and relationships. The shared dreams and aspirations of a couple really begin on their wedding day with the hope of a new and better life, that becomes larger than their own. A great spouse is worth the world. To have someone with which to share your life’s work, your passions, your joy, and even your sadness, simply cannot be overvalued. I have been married for 16 years and will humbly tell you that I probably would not be here if not for my wife. She is quick to smile, slow to anger and eager to understand. She supports my every venture and always attempts to understand my craziness. She is the love of my life, and my first goal in all of my endeavors is to make her proud of me. A few suggestions based on my experiences: For you guys: Take out the trash without her asking, get her flowers for no reason, tell her she’s beautiful every day, compliment her when she finishes dressing, hold the door open for her, make sure that she is comfortable in every situation. Treat her like a queen. For you girls: Support his hobbies (even if you don’t understand them), feed him when he’s hungry, be patient when he is quiet (guys are not always great at communicating), love him unconditionally, tell him exactly what you want, men are not great at hints or clues. Treat him like a king. In short, be the partner that you want your spouse to be. Be loving, kind, supportive, thoughtful and most of all understanding. Love like there is no tomorrow. I encourage all of you to work at being a great husband or wife. Make it a priority in your lives. It will bring you peace in your days and make your life on this crazy planet much easier. Two are always stronger than one! God Bless,

Spring Color Report: 2015 With every season, comes new inspiration in design and fashion. The season dictates the type of materials and textiles used and the shapes and cuts of garments. The change of season also brings a new palette of colors to creatively combine and coordinate. Pantone, the worldrenowned authority on color, recently released its Spring 2015 Fashion Color Report: En Plein Air. These will be the predominant colors for the entire fashion world this season, including wedding fashion. Since Pantone is the standard language for color communication, from designer all the way down to consumer, most bridal dress shops will carry dresses in these colors. You may want to consider this report when selecting bridesmaids, mother of the bride/groom and flower girl dresses. These will also be the colors for linens and other textiles such as plastics, so you will probably encounter them when searching for table linens, chair coverings and tabletop items. The 2015 Color of the Year was announced in early December 2014, and this coveted title belongs to Marsala. “Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. According to Eiseman, “There is a growing movement to step out and create ‘quiet zones’ to disconnect from technology and unwind, giving ourselves time to stop and be still. Color choices follow the same minimalistic, ‘en plein air’ theme, taking a cue from nature rather than being reinvented or mechanically manipulated. Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.” Perhaps incorporating some of these colors into your spring wedding will evoke those feelings and make your perfect day that much better. Aquamarine 14-4313- Cool and calming, open and expansive, this restful blue also acts as a stress reducer. Scuba Blue 16-4725- Conveys a sense of carefree playfulness. Even though a cool shade, the vibrancy of Scuba Blue adds a splash of excitement to the palette.

Lucite Green 14-5714- A soothing green shade whose time has really come again. Fresh and clarifying, cool and refreshing, Lucite Green has a minty glow. Light in weight and also in tone, Lucite Green seems almost transparent. Classic Blue 19-4052- Inspires calm, confidence and harmony. Serving as an anchor to the Spring/Summer 2015 palette, Classic Blue is a shade that is strong and reliable. Just as with the sea, because of its waterborne qualities, this Classic Blue is perceived as thoughtful and introspective. Toasted Almond 14-1213- A sun-tanned neutral, Toasted Almond offers comforting warmth and is indicative of a spontaneous spring, summer feeling. Timeless and versatile, Toasted Almond is an organic shade that speaks to authenticity and all that is natural. Strawberry Ice 16-1720- Subtle and charming, Strawberry Ice is an ideal shade for Spring/Summer 2015. Both tasty and tasteful, Strawberry Ice is a confection color that evokes a feeling of being “in the pink,” emitting a flattering and healthy glow. Tangerine 15-1247- Striking enough to stand on its own and adds vitality to a printed pattern. Good natured and friendly, but with a tangy edge, this fun-loving color invites a smile. Custard 13-0720- Sweet and sunny, Custard is a cheering tone that brings thoughts of pleasant relaxation and comfort food. Engaging with its soft and mellow warmth and full of good feelings, subtle Custard has an affable and easy disposition. Marsala 18-1438- Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness. Glacier Gray 14-4102- An unobtrusive gray that contrasts and enhances; bouncing off other shades without taking away from them as it slips into the background to allow other colors to take center stage. When you apply for your marriage license, at least one party must appear in person. He or she must have all the necessary information and documents outlined below.

1. State law requires a cerfitied copy of each partyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s birth certificate, if born in Louisiana. Passports are not acceptable. If either party was born out-of-state, a waiver can be submitted. If either party was born out-of-country, a valid passport, naturalization papers, or green card, along with a valid state ID card or driverâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s license must be presented at the office, and to a judge to obtain a waiver.

If either applicant is under 18 years of age, but more than 16, the marriage is lawful and a license may be issued if the applicants provide: written consent of both parents (or custodian), or an order from a judge or juvenille court. In the event the applicant is under 16, all the above three things will be required.

2. If either party is divorced,he/she must present a certified copy of the final divorce decree. 3. If either party is widowed, he/she must present a certified copy of a death certificate. 4. Each party must know his/her social security number, but no documentation is required. 5. Both bride and groom will need to complete a marriage license application; forms can be presented by either applicant in person.

GENErAL INfOrMATION A Louisiana license is valid in any parish in Louisiana for 30 days. There is a 72-hour waiting period between the time of issuance and the ceremony. Only a district judge or Justice of the Peace can waive this. Newlyweds should order a certified copy of their marriage license two weeks after the marriage to ensure that the license has been returned and recorded.

We, at NOLA Wedding Guide, truly believe that New Orleans has some of the best wedding vendors in the country. When we have an opportunity to actually showcase one of our vendors’ weddings or engagements, we jump at the chance. In this unique case, we had the chance to feature the engagement parties of three employees from one of our favorite wedding venues: The Steamboat Natchez.

French Quarter Fest. Melissa and Greg will be traveling to Playa Del Carmen on July 11, 2015 to say their vows. Anna Arcenaux is the operations coordinator for the Natchez, and will be eloping to Paris with her fiancé, Dennis Mitchell, on May 24, 2015. Anna and Dennis met six years ago while working together at the Daily Reveille at LSU. Though eloping, they will host a small intimate gathering for family and friends in the French Quarter prior to leaving for Paris.

We asked another one of our vendors, photographer Louis Dumser of Photo by Louis, to come along and capture the scene. The décor was beautiful and everyone on board seemed eager to take the trip down the Mississippi River. Each of the couples looked radiant and happy to be celebrating, not only with their own families, but also with their coworkers. After Melissa and Anna got engaged, the pressure was put on Dane Bono, the tour & travel sales manager of the Natchez, to pop the question to his fiancée, Casey Smith. The couple met watching a ballgame after the “New Orleans Running of the Bulls”, as each of them were cheering on their favorite baseball team- Cubs vs. Cardinals. Shortly after a Cubs’ victory, a dinner date followed. Dane actually asked Casey to marry him on the

two-year anniversary of that first dinner. They will host their wedding at the Elm’s Mansion in Uptown New Orleans on October 10, 2015. We wish all three couples a very happy wedding day and a beautiful life together. We also thank you for allowing us to celebrate with you and tell your stories!!

Springtime brings to mind a renewing of life, or rebirth. It beckons us to go back outside after the chilly, dreary winter and experience nature in all of her glory. Their stories and ideas serve as inspiration to our readers, and we also enjoy hearing all about their love and wedding planning experiences. One of the most popular ways to tell these stories is through our Featured Couple Facebook Contest.

In the past 2 years, since we started the contest, it has grown into a much anticipated and highly coveted staple for each issue. This issue’s contest has set the bar high for 2015. We had three beautiful couples vying for the honor of the inaugural Featured Couple of 2015, and the voting was close, but alas, we can only have one winning couple. Stacey Lawrence and Joseph Ledet will be married on May 2, 2015. We had the chance to find out more about their love story and upcoming wedding plans.

Stacey: He had this surprise date all planned out, and I was so nervous that night because I liked him so much. I didn’t know what we were doing or where we were going, so I ate a little something before he showed up. I remember him being such a gentleman and coming to ring the doorbell in his button up shirt and nice jeans. He opened the door of his truck for me.

NWG: How did you meet? Stacey: In July 2011, I went to a crawfish boil for one of Joe’s best friends. It was cold outside, so I had on my old high school sweatshirt. I was immediately attracted to Joe’s dark hair and tan skin. We talked and joked all afternoon and then we became friends on Facebook. For months we would just go back and forth either “liking” or commenting on each other’s posts/photos. He later told me that he didn’t ask me out sooner

After seeing his cousin out one night, I got Joe’s number and began to text him. From that night on, we texted/talked every day. NWG: Describe your first date.

Joseph: I had a surprise date planned, starting at Fuji Hana, her favorite restaurant. Then I planned a trip to Baton Rouge to go ice-skating because she said she wanted to do it, but never had the chance. I’ve been before, so I thought it would be great to teach her something new. However, I got off of work late and when we arrived at the restaurant, she told me that she had already eaten, since she wasn’t sure what we were doing. After that, I called the ice skating rink only to find that they were closing in 10 minutes, and we were over an hour away from it! was to bring her ice-skating. I proposed to her on the ice when the DJ played the song I requested, “Marry Me” by Train. Stacey: I was so nervous and in complete shock that I’m pretty sure I didn’t even actually say yes. I just helped him up off the ice and began to hug and kiss him. Come to find out later, everyone in my family knew of the plan and were really good at keeping the secret. NWG: How has the planning gone so far? Stacey: I always thought that the month of May would be a pretty time of the year, so we decided that it would be the perfect month to get married. Plus, we would have about a year and a half to plan. Joe is really laid back most of the time, especially when it comes to wedding planning. Out of the two of us, I’m definitely the more OCD and organized type of person, so he basically leaves everything up to me. One of the hardest parts of planning was trying to include all the important people in our lives, being that we both come from blended families. The most touching thing was that my stepfather became ordained in order to be able to marry us. NWG: Tell us about some of your wedding vendors.

Stacey: So instead we went down to my family’s camp in Lake Hermitage and talked for hours. That was the night we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. NWG: Describe your courtship.

NWG: Any advice for future couples?

Joseph: Our relationship has been adventurous yet trying at times. My previous profession was hard for any relationship to endure: long hours, working on weekends, and switching from days to nights with little to no notice. However, Stacey stuck by my side when things got really rough. When I accepted a job that was an hour and a half away and moved, she had to stay in New Orleans for school. We talked every day and she drove up every weekend just to spend a few hours with me. The wedding of Christina Carter and John Burks took place November 8, 2014 in Stone County, MS at the Blackjack Ranch. B NWG: NWG: How did you meet and when? Christina: We went to school together from Kindergarten until 7th grade. I then transferred to a private school and didn’t see Wesley again until the summer of 2010. We were both so shocked to see each other that we both stumbled over our words. All I could think of was how handsome he was. NWG: How did he propose? Christina: I woke up on August 21, 2013 and realized that Wesley planned my whole day in advance. He got me the day off from work and planned a scavenger hunt starting with my mom picking me up in a limo. The places on the scavenger hunt were all of my favorites. We went to Mary Mahoney’s for brunch, Azalea Spa and Salon for my nails, Chuck Kelly for my hair and makeup, and Panache to pick out an outfit. At every location, there was a letter giving me a hint to my next stop. The limo then drove us up to my father’s ranch in Perkinston, MS where I knew everyone was waiting for my brother’s and my birthday party. As we pulled into the ranch, I saw my dad walk out in a suit and I started to realize what was going on. My dad took me upstairs and opened the door to the balcony which was decorated with lights and rose petals. I heard the song “Marry Me” by Train being sung by my sister. At that point, I cried off all of the makeup that had just been put on my face. Then I saw Wesley, and I don’t remember much except for the fact that I said “YES.” NWG: How was the planning process?

NWG: How was your preparation on the big day? Were you nervous?

Christina: The planning process was so much fun. Of course it was stressful at times, but I did my best to enjoy every minute. Whenever I would get stressed out, I would remind myself that this is a once in a lifetime thing. I just thank God that I had the support that I did.

Christina: My bridesmaids made sure I was very prepared. I didn’t forget a thing. I was definitely nervous, but I think I was more excited to see and marry the man of my dreams.

NWG: What did you think when you were walking down the aisle?

NWG: What was the most memorable moment of the day?

Christina: I was so excited! My emotions were going crazy. When I saw Wesley, my heart melted, and I couldn’t get down the aisle fast enough.

Christina: I will always cherish the words my dad said to me before we walked down the aisle, and watching my husband dance like Michael Jackson. My most memorable moment though would have to be when we were walking out to take pictures after the ceremony. My husband looked over at me and said, “I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful dress for you to wear today. You are so beautiful!”

NWG: What was your first dance song? Christina: Our first dance song was “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” sung by my sister.

“I DO” Again Tom and Gayle Benson Renew Their Vows by:Troy Marks On October 22 2014, New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owners Tom and Gayle Benson renewed their vows at the St. Louis Cathedral surrounded by over 1,000 friends and family members. The milestone marked the 10 year anniversary of their wedding and was made extra special by the fact that they met at the St. Louis Cathedral. Tom Benson first saw Gayle Marie LaJaunie Bird as she was doing a reading of the Scripture at a 7:30 A.M. service and stayed after Mass to meet her. Mr. Benson was attending Mass that day to commemorate the

anniversary of his first wife’s death. After a very brief five month courtship, Tom and Gayle were married in San Antonio on October 29 2004. Gayle says, “I had been single for over 3o years and was very content in life. I certainly was not looking to get married, but God had other plans.” Their renewal ceremony was performed by Archbishop Gregory Aymond, a close friend of the Bensons, and also included over 20 other clergy members. The entire choir of the St. Louis Cathedral was on hand to serenade the couple as they pledged their love.

“I feel so fortunate to be married to a man who shares my faith and spirituality. To reaffirm our love in God’s presence was the highlight for me.” Mrs. Benson wore a Vera Wang dress that she says, “Was just perfect for the evening.” After the ceremony, a reception was held at the New Orleans Museum of Art. A harpist, 2 opera singers and members of the Louisana Philharmonic Orchestra provided a beautiful musical backdrop as the guests arrived. Sonny Randon was on hand to photograph the event and was the first and only photographer the Bensons considered to shoot their renewal ceremony. He has

been friends with Mrs. Benson for over 40 years and did an excellent job of capturing all of the details of the event, big and small. Mrs Benson credits her staff with helping her coordinate the event and says, “They went above and beyond and worked incredibly hard to help me plan the event. It was perfect in every way.” As to her favorite part of the evening, Mrs. Benson says, “I feel so fortunate to be married to a man who shares my faith and spirituality. To reaffirm our love in God’s presence was the highlight for me.” “It truly was a perfect night.”

Springtime in New Orleans is a beautiful time of the year to hold an outdoor wedding. With the options ranging from antebellum plantation homes to quaint courtyards nestled in the heart of the French Quarter, to endless sandy beaches just an hour’s drive away, the south offers an abundance of outdoor settings to turn your spring wedding into a memorable affair. While an outdoor wedding will provide an environment that speaks for itself, there are still subtle touches you can do to personalize the outdoor space and pull it into the overall theme of your wedding and/or reception. Set the tone of outdoor nuptials with innovative programs. A “message in a bottle” program is a creative way to give your guests the timeline of events for a beach wedding. It can also serve as your favor. For a garden or outdoor plantation ceremony, putting your program on a paper fan serves two purposes: it gives your guests an idea of the pace of the ceremony and also provides some air flow if your wedding falls on a warm spring day. Hole punch the handle of the fan and add ribbon in your wedding colors to dress it up. You can also present the program as a scroll on paper or burlap – a hot item right now - and have it wrapped in lace, leather, ribbon or bamboo. The ceremony seating is an opportunity to display your wedding colors and also serves a practical purpose. If you have wooden or uncomfortable chairs, try placing pillows on the seats for comfort and a dash color. You could opt to forgo chairs altogether and instead place colored blankets and quilts over bales of hay. The aisle does not need much, perhaps well appointed flowers and lights to create a warm and inviting path to the altar. As for the altar, it can be as simple as a wooden stool with a nice arrangement or it can be a window treatment of lace curtains on a wooden frame and accented with natural elements such as branches or woods.

“A ‘message in a bottle’ program is a creative way to give your guests the timeline of events for a beach wedding. It can also serve as your favor.” The natural décor of the outdoors can be enhanced with a few well placed potted plants, but you do not need to go overboard. Let the ambiance of nature set the tone for your event. Remember to inform your guests ahead of time of your outdoor setting and the landscape so that they can

dress appropriately. Grass, gravel or uneven terrain is not suitable for stilettos and a jacket may be in order for an evening affair. Sunscreen is also a must if your festivities are during the daylight hours. Having a few classy dispensers of sunscreen at your event is a good idea, along with a basket of parasols for guests to use during a daytime ceremony or reception.

“I am going to lose 50 pounds this year!” “I’m going to exercise every day!” New Year’s is the most popular time of the year when so many of us set goals for ourselves, including weight loss, a healthier diet, financial stability, improved relationships; the list goes on and on. However, most people fall short in achieving their goals as their goals are often unrealistic and unattainable. So, what’s the solution? Make SMART goals – goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timebound! Specific Specific goals eliminate ambiguity as to whether or not you achieved your goal, resulting in greater success. For instance, rather than saying, “I am going to eat healthier this year,” resolve to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Measurable Think of a measurable goal, a goal in which you can quantify and track your progress toward achieving. “I am going to sleep eight hours every night” is a great example of a measurable goal you can track in contrast to a goal of “I am going to sleep better.” Tracking progress motivates you in addition to lessening your chances of goal abandonment. Achievable Without a doubt, this is one of the most important characteristics of a successful goal! Ask yourself if your New Year’s resolution is actually achievable. Develop practical goals in order to avoid setting yourself up for failure. Instead of wishing to lose 50 pounds this year, aim to lose one pound a week, or four pounds a month. Realistic Countless New Year’s resolutions fail because they are unrealistic. Set realistic, reasonable goals, goals centered around a change you want and can make. Avoid resolving to keep a food diary every week if you absolutely dread writing everything down. Rather, aim to use smaller plates and bowls to control portion sizes. Time-bound Without a time frame, goals are often abandoned and left forgotten. Establish a realistic time frame with which you wish to achieve your goal, whether that is a week, a month, three months, or six months. Having a “due date” empowers you to get started and continue working toward achieving your goal. This New Year, don’t be left with abandoned New Year’s resolutions. Establish a support network with close friends and family. Resolve to be a healthier you! And remember, set SMART goals!

It’s been a wonderful journey. You started with finding your soul mate, then planning the wedding of your dreams and now you are settling in to start your life anew. Well, you still have one more wedding related task before you - thank you notes. Most people cringe at the thought of writing a personal note thanking each person who gave them a wedding gift. Keeping it simple and personal will make the task much less foreboding. Let your appreciation shine. Here are some tips to make the task a bit easier. North Productions

You can either have personal thank you notes made (perhaps with your monogram) or you can buy preprinted ones from your local stationery store.

•

Handwrite each note in blue or black ink only. They are much easier to read than other colors.

•

Mention each gift and how you will use the give, if possible. Try not to start with “I”. Use the word “you” more than “I” or “me” in the note.

•

Mention any special effort the giver may have put in for you such as traveling a long distance, giving a special toast, or throwing you a party or shower.

If someone was unable to attend your wedding, but still sent a gift, mention how sorry you were that they couldn’t be with you. Maybe offer to send them some pictures. Viewing your pictures online is standard for most photographers these days.

•

Always send separate notes for your shower and wedding gifts, even if you received them both within a short time of each other.

•

Try to be timely. It is proper etiquette to send a note within 2-3 weeks of receiving a gift, or 6-8 weeks at the very longest.

My fiance doesn’t have a best man. Can we have a wedding without one?

Cold Feet

Maybe it’s cold feet, but I suddenly feel as though my fiancé and I don’t agree about anything -- money, kids, etc. We love each other, and want to be together more than anything, but is love really enough? I’m depressed about all this fighting. What do you think?

Of course. However, what you MUST have is someone to sign your marriage certificate as the groom’s witness. This could be his dad, mom, a female friend -- anyone. As far as having someone physically standing next to him while he says “I Do,” you’re all he needs, and that’s as it should be.

Out-of-town Bridesmaid

I am an out-of-town bridesmaid who cannot attend the bachelorette party. Should I still be helping the maid of honor pay for the party?

In short, yes. Unlike a shower where there is generally (although not always) one person responsible for footing the bill, the bachelorette party is slightly different. Anyone who attends generally wants a part in taking the bride out on the town. For this reason it is typical for the maid of honor (or whoever is organizing the party) to ask for contributions. In fact, you should pretty much expect this, especially if you are a bridesmaid. Because you can’t be there though, you should call the maid of honor and suggest another way you can help out. Perhaps you could offer to contribute the amount the other maids will be paying, or at least a portion of that sum. If you’d rather not send cash, maybe call ahead to one of the spots where the party will be and order a bottle of wine, champagne or some other treat that everyone can enjoy -- on you. Of course, you don’t HAVE to contribute anything, but it’s just good manners!

I think that it’s perfectly normal to feel a bit stressed out just before the wedding. After all, there is so much time and energy being exerted into the planning details that it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important and what’s real. If you are able, take a step back from all of the preparation, and just take a day with your fiancé where the two of you can go for a fun night out and hopefully remember what it is like just to be a couple. Don’t discuss anything about the wedding or what life will be like after the fact during your date. Once you are feeling more relaxed – maybe the next day or so - then set aside time to discuss some of your major concerns. Both a healthy relationship and marriage are based on the couple’s willingness to compromise, which both of you are more likely to do if you aren’t totally overwhelmed with other big day issues. To answer your question about whether or not love is really enough, the answer is yes; true love, the one that recognizes the need for patience and give and take between two people, is all you need!

We were really excited to be granted the opportunity to do a photo shoot at the Swimsuit International Model Search contest, hosted by the Hardrock Casino Riviera Maya in Mexico. Swimsuit USA International holds a yearly model search for women, from all over the world, to meet with industry professionals and further their modeling and acting careers. The 2014 event took place on the beautiful coastline of the Riviera Maya, famous for its breathtaking views. Teaming up with Ron Carr Photography and Voodoo Makeup, we did a small shoot with some of the gorgeous contestants in wedding dresses. While New Orleans is the #2 destination-wedding city in America (second only to Las Vegas), the exquisite beaches and eternal summer of the Riviera Maya make for a wonderful honeymoon destination.

Your Reception: How to set the tone with

Music

You carefully choose the venue, flowers, cakes, and the hundreds of other details to ensure that you have the wedding of your dreams. All of the elements are put together to create a scene for your guests to be transported to another place and time, if only for a few hours during your reception. However, one of, if not the most important aspects to setting the mood with any party is music. Music sets the tone and becomes a way to bring all of your friends and family onto the dance floor to share in an unforgettable moment. But how does one pick that epic soundtrack for the greatest time had by all? There are a few guidelines that almost any good wedding band or DJ follow. Here are just a few:

1. The music at your reception should coincide with the

timeline of events. You don’t want to have hip/hop, highenergy dance or hard rock playing as your guests arrive. You also don’t want to have dinner music playing at the last half hour of the reception, either. There is a flow to the course of a reception, as the energy gradually builds towards the last hour. Having someone in control of your music that realizes this is paramount.

2. Remember that your guests will range in age, so pick music that will appeal to everyone. Your older guests will appreciate a few golden oldies and slow songs thrown into the mix. This will likely keep them on the dance floor even when the more modern songs are played.

3. Don’t micromanage your entertainment. Ask your bandleader

or DJ if they have a song list for you to choose some songs. This will give them an idea of what you like, while still giving them the freedom to read the crowd and change accordingly. Remember, they do this a lot more than you, so they tend to know what will work and what won’t in any given situation.

4. When choosing the first dances, be mindful that the songs

are appropriate in content and length. Some people just don’t like the spotlight, so a shorter version of the chosen song can be considered. Also, listen carefully to the lyrics and make sure they relate to the people who are dancing. Some love songs have lyrics that are about generic love, but some are specific to romantic love, so they may not be well suited for a parent’s dance.

The best rule of thumb to follow for a wonderful time at your reception is this: If the bride is out on the dance floor having a great time, her guests will surely follow. So, get out there and celebrate your love with those who love and support you most!

Buy your fiancée her engagement ring Choose and invite your best man and groomsman Invite the ushers. Plan for one usher per every 50 guests. Begin making your guest list. Discuss wedding expenses with your fiancée and both sides of the family. Together with your fiancée, meet with the clergyman, judge, or officiant to discuss the requirements and/or details of the ceremony.

3-4 Months finalize your guest list and give it to your fiancée. Choose formal attire for yourself and all of the men in your wedding party, including all of the fathers. Notify all of the men where to go to get fitted or their attire. Complete your honeymoon plans and schedule time off with your employer.

1 Month

reserve the room and help plan the rehearsal party. This is usually held 1-3 days prior to the wedding. this party is held for parents, all members of the wedding party and their spouses, clergyman and his wife, plus the out-oftown guests. Modify your insurance coverage, including life, medical, auto, household (including flood and fire policies), and personal property insurance. Gather your honeymoon clothes, purchasing any needed items. Apply for a passport, if needed.

2 Weeks Order clothing accessories for the men in the wedding party (ascots, ties, etc.). Confirm honeymoon reservations. Notify the post office of change of address if you are moving.

1 Week Wrap gifts for your best man, groomsman, and ushers.

Buy the Bride’s wedding ring and have it engraved.

Confirm that all wedding attire is going to be ready for the date of your wedding.

With your fiancée, make sure boutonnieres are ordered for yourself, as well as all men in the wedding party, including fathers.

Attend the bachelor party.

Help arrange lodging for out-of-town guests and attendants. Buy your gifts for the Bride, best man, groomsman & ushers.

Place the fee for the clergyman or judge in a sealed envelope and give it to the best man to deliver just prior to the ceremony.

Make sure your religious and legal documents are in order.

Pack for your honeymoon.
