The sky’s the limit on the Waterfront The sky is the limit for Waterfront United, 11 maritime companies and seven unions banding together to raise money for United Way. Last year, the initiative raised $545,000 to help children, families and seniors in the Lower Mainland. The participating unions in Waterfront United are Canadian Office and Professional Employees (COPE) Local 378; Construction Maintenance and Allied Workers (CMAW) Local 506; Grain Workers Union (GWU) Local 333; International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM & AW) 692; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 213; International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada (ILWU); and Plumbers, Pipefitters and Steamfitters (UA) Local 170. The companies participating are British Columbia Maritime Employers Association; Cargill Canada; China Ocean Shipping (COSCO Container Lines); DP World (Canada) Inc.; Neptune Bulk Terminals (Canada) Ltd.; Port Metro Vancouver; Richardson International Ltd.; Seaspan; TSI Terminals; Viterra; and Western Stevedoring. United Way invested $1.5 million in support of North Shore children, families and seniors in 2013/14. We support 50 organizations that run 106 programs.
