La Costa Couple’s Working Relationship is a Gem Ask someone if they could work with their spouse and you’ll often see a pained expression. Most would agree that 24/7 togetherness is not for the faint of heart. While it sounds appealing to some, they still might question their ability to survive it. There are clearly pros and cons, but working with your spouse is a key to the time honored tradition of mom and pop businesses. Owners of Gems of La Costa, Dale & Linda Condy, have learned what it takes to manage their jewelry store as a mom and pop team. Communication, understanding, and a lot of patience is required. It’s also easier to work together if you can laugh together, so it helps to have a sense of
humor. Dale & Linda joke that their secret to maintaining a close relationship after 35 years is to spend a lot of time in small spaces. “We live together in a small house, we operate our small business together and we travel together in a small RV. It’s just not often that we’re very far apart!” February is the time of year when they take their RV to the Tucson Gem Show for a buying trip. Hotel rooms are hard to find during the show and Dale & Linda love to camp. Tucson is their chance to combine business and pleasure and… spend even more time together. Initial preparation at the store, the actual buying trip, and coming straight back to work takes the better part of two weeks. “We’re connected at the hip the whole time and it really helps that we’re best friends.”
The Tucson show is made up of dozens of small shows that bring vendors from all over the world with a limitless selection of treasures. One day you’ll be dressed in business attire looking at fine gemstones in a carpeted convention center. The next day you can be dressed in jeans looking at fossils or geodes in a tent set up on a gravel parking lot. You never know what you’ll find, but it’s the perfect chance to search for new jewelry and gemstones for the New Year. Dale & Linda return to the store with their exciting discoveries just in time for Valentine’s Day. Visit Gems of La Costa to meet Dale & Linda and mention this article. They might surprise you with a souvenir from this year’s trip to Tucson. Learn more and visit www.gemsoflacosta.com/Tucson.

In collaboration with experimental sound artist Christopher Adler, Salk has designed an immersive installation that explores the vibrational quality of her images. Designed in response to Salk’s work, Adler’s music heightens the
viewer’s senses eliciting a meditative and spiritual experience. Working in a ritualistic process that involves layers of calligraphic marks and geometric grids, Ellen Salk’s large scale paintings are full of dynamic juxtapositions. The contrasts of light and dark, organic and geometric, thin versus thick lines, and warm against cool colors create a powerful sense of depth and mystery. March 10 – July 7 Herb Turner – Realist/Idealist: Herbert B. (Herb) Turner, well- known architect, accomplished painter and sculptor, upheld the ideals of classical art and the old masters while incorporating modern concerns and the world around him. Though his works often appear to be direct observations of daily life, they are carefully constructed scenes imbued with social commentary, poignant messages or personal reflections. Turner realized his artistic tendencies while convalescing after a sports injury during his time at West Point. He studied in New York under Robert Brackman and Naum Los before moving to Del Mar, California, where he served as an apprentice to John Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. OMA is pleased to recognize Turner’s artistic contributions in a significant exhibition of more than 50 paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and architectural models. San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Colorful World of Butterflies at Butterfly Jungle We’re Giving Away Tickets! March 24-April 15 Ready for a spring fling? Then flit, flutter, and fly to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for the annual Butterfly Jungle event from March 24 to April 15. The Park’s Hidden Jungle greenhouse habitat is transformed into a beautiful whirl of exotic butterflies. Enjoy the winged wonders as you discover the roles that color plays in the life of a butterfly. Butterflies feed on nectar provided by flowers, and are important pollinators for a wide variety of plants. In order to attract them to feed on a particular blossom, plants have to advertise where to find the nectar. These nectar guides present a visual contrast from the rest of the flower, either in form or color. Sometimes we can see these patterns, but often they are in the ultraviolet
range. Butterflies are most often attracted to red, yellow, orange, pink, or purple blossoms for feeding, and plants with flowers of these colors tend to produce more nectar. During the Safari Park’s Butterfly Jungle, make like a nectar plant and wear those bright colors to attract the butterflies’ attention. Pick up one of the large butterfly identification cards at the entrance to aid your discovery of the more than 30 different species winging their way through Hidden Jungle. Try out some fun, interactive experiences with your kids and ask questions of the educators. And to help keep things fluttering along, you can even pick up a ticket that gives you a specific entrance time and avoid waiting in long lines! Discover all that happens at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park during Butterfly Jungle at www.sdzsafaripark.org.

SeaWorld’s Shamu and Other Exotic Animals Taking Over Knott’s Soak City Water Park There’s going to be some big changes soon at San Diego’s largest water park in Chula Vista. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, parent of SeaWorld San Diego, has recently acquired Knott’s Soak City San Diego, located in Chula Vista, from Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. David Koontz, SeaWorld San Diego spokesman, didn’t wish to release financial details yet but said the company would divulge details after the completion of transaction elements that are still under contract negotiation. A SeaWorld statement said the Chula Vista Water Park, at 2042 Otay Valley Road, will undergo extensive renovation throughout winter, and reopen this coming spring as SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment’s third Aquatica Water Park. Both SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Antonio now operate Aquatica Water Parks. Jim Atchison, president and chief executive officer of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, says “Aquatica San Diego, like its sister parks, will feature guest experiences with a variety of exotic animals.” He added, “Having animals in our Aquatica Parks adds an educational component to a water park visit that is both unexpected and enriching.” The first Aquatica opened next to SeaWorld Orlando in 2008. It is currently one of the nation’s most visited water parks, with annual attendance of approximately 1.5 million. With birds and tropical fish, Aquatica Orlando features Dolphin Plunge, the park’s centerpiece water attraction, with an enclosed acrylic slide that allows riders to see animals underwater.
a ball to explore and play with during his weekly morning exam, and he didn’t want to let it go. The keepers welcomed the calm, focused demeanor of the cub, as it simplified the exam process and made it much easier to take measurements of the cub. Xiao Liwu wrapped his paws around the ball, mouthed it and tried to crawl over the ball. When he fell on his side and the ball popped out of his paws, the zoo keepers returned it to him. At 20 weeks old, the giant baby panda weighed 14.5 pounds and measured 29 inches long from nose to tail tip. The cub was in the process of developing his motor skills and was getting better at crawling. He was often seen investigating a small climbing structure in the rooms he shares with his mother, Bai Yun. Xiao Liwu, perhaps the cutest and the newest surviving giant panda born in captivity in the United States, at the San Diego Zoo, made his first public appearance on Thursday, January, 10, 2013. During that hour long public introduction, the 6-month-old, 16-pound male cub, delightedly rolled in mud and hay, ignoring onlookers,
The San Diego Zoo’s giant pandas are on a research loan from the People’s Republic of China. As part of this long-term program, the Zoo is also collaborating with the Chinese Academy of Science in studies of behavior, ecology, genetics and conservation of wild pandas living in the Foping Nature Reserve. Only 1,600 giant pandas are believed to exist in the wild, and the species is primarily threatened by habitat loss. San Diego Zoo Global, in conjunction with Chinese panda experts, continues to work on science-based panda conservation programs. The San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy is dedicated to bringing endangered species back from the brink of extinction. The work of the Conservancy includes onsite wildlife conservation efforts at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, and international field programs in more than 35 countries. In addition, San Diego Zoo Global manages the Anne and Kenneth Griffin Reptile Conservation Center, the Frozen ZooTM and Native Seed Gene Bank, the Keauhou and Maui Hawaii Endangered Bird Conservation Centers, San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike Breeding Facility, Cocha Cashu Biological Research Station, the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center, and a 800-acre biodiversity reserve adjacent to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Mike Tyson Punches His Way to San Diego Civic Theatre Live Show March 5, 7:30pm The great Mike Tyson has been fighting controversy almost as long as he’s been swinging his fists. Now the former boxing champ’s own live performance show is coming to San Diego’s Civic Theatre on March 5. Broadway San Diego has announced that the one-man show “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” will be going the distance and hit the San Diego Civic Theatre as part of a ten week U.S. tour. The show, directed by Hollywood heavyweight Spike Lee and presented by James L. Nederlander (president of the Nederlander Organization, Broadway San Diego’s parent), is billed as “a rare and personal look into the life and mind of one of the most feared men to ever wear the heavyweight crown.” Mike Tyson, now at the young age of 46, once dominated heavyweight boxing like few other fighters. After winning his first crown in the mid-80s, he was known as a brutal puncher who won 44 of his 58 career fights by knockout. In 1990, he lost the heavyweight championship in a major
upset. Not long after, Tyson’s life seemed to hit the ropes. In 1992, he was convicted of rape, eventually spending three years in prison. Even after that, controversy continued to dog the fighter - most infamously with his disqualification from a 1997 match against Evander Holyfield for biting his opponent’s ear. The Brooklyn born boxer declared bankruptcy in 2003, and retired from fighting in 2006. In recent years he has stayed mostly out of the spotlight, turning vegan and starting the Mike Tyson Cares Foundation, to help children from broken homes. Tyson also came from a broken family. The Broadway solo show, written by Tyson’s current wife, Kiki, covers all of that history and more—including the fighter’s stormy marriage to Robin Givens and the tragic accidental death of his young daughter in 2009. Mike Tyson’s solo performance in San Diego takes place at the San Diego Civic Theatre, 1100 Third Ave. downtown. Tickets start at $25 and are now on sale. Call (619) 5701100 or visit www.broadwaysd.com.

understanding with which it peers into the half lit world of its handicapped protagonists. “The Boys Next Door is one of the most unusual…and one of the most rewarding plays in town.” —BackStage. “Griffin’s play hits squarely on the truth of life with its constant interplays and shadings of triumphs and tears.” —NY Daily News. “The Boys Next Door moves the audience to an awareness of how many things in everyday life we take for granted…” —NY Times. 18th Annual shamROCK in the Gaslamp Quarter
19th Annual Mardi Gras Parade, Festival and Fat Tuesday in the Gaslamp
March 17, 2pm-Midnight It’s been 18 years since the birth of shamROCK and this year, shamROCK is destined to be the biggest Irish Celebration on the West Coast. This time around, over 20,000 Irish revelers are expected to hit the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. The 18th Annual shamROCK, presented by Jameson and The Field, takes place on the most sacred party day of the year, St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, from 2pm until Midnight. The Gaslamp is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Celebration as a 150-foot Irish Pub on the streets of the Gaslamp is recreated; the streets turn green with over 80,000 square feet of green artificial turf; and with a lighting extravaganza, the Gaslamp Quarter transforms into an urban, super chic version of the rolling hills of Ireland! shamROCK is the one of the major street parties of the year in San Diego, and this year it lives up to the “rock” in shamROCK with three stages of live entertainment. The Field Irish Stage features Irish Rock, Irish Punk Rock and other Irish favorites. Fifth Avenue and F Street features
February 12, Tuesday, 6pm-midnight the new Electronica stage will have the most sexy, crazy sounds to hypnotize you into an Irish haze. The third stage is located next to the 150-foot Irish pub and presents over 25 Irish River Dancers and your favorite San Diego and Los Angeles DJs. And, Dublin has nothing on “The Pub,” which has lots of beer and plenty of Jameson Irish Whisky to concoct your favorite St. Paddy’s Day libations. shamROCK once again takes place on 6th Avenue between E and G Streets, “F” Street between 5th and 7th Avenues, and G Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. Tickets to shamROCK are now on sale, and a wristband gets you special privileges. This event goes on, rain or shine. the Coast News, “The benchmarks of any good deli are the corned beef, the rye bread, the cole slaw and the pickle, since they are the foundations for all that is good in the deli world. The corned beef has to be moist, the bread soft with a firm crust, and a coleslaw that has a perfect consistency that combines crunch and oozy liquid to balance out the sandwich, and a crisp, refreshing pickle on the side. Put big happy check marks next to all of them for Nosh.” We agree whole heartedly and highly recommend this Chicago-style deli. The #1 called “The Boss” is a massive stack of very lean and perfectly seasoned corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing, on warm rye bread. Hope you’re hungry, ‘cause it’s big enough for two! Owner and restaurateur, Bas Emani, hails from the windy city and brings the family business from Chicago to Encinitas. And, Bas isn’t stopping here. He has plans and has already begun opening multiple restaurants in the San Diego area. You are going to hear a lot about this place. But talk is talk and the only way to believe how good it really is, is to try it yourself.
Nosh’s menu is extraordinary. They have Specialty Sandwiches, Paninis and Club Sandwiches, and Nosh Signature Sandwiches such as Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roast Beef, Turkey, Chopped Liver, and Egg Salad just to name a few. Fresh breads include Rye, Kaiser Rolls, Challah, Bagels, and more. All sandwiches come with a Chipico kosher pickle and coleslaw. Homemade soups include an amazing Matza Ball Soup, Split Pea, Chicken Noodle or Rice and Mushroom Barley. Other items worth mentioning are their many salads, desserts and breakfast specialties. Their Morning Take-Out Special is a bagel with cream cheese, coffee and a side of fruit for only $4.95! Clip their coupon from page 30 and get a FREE bag of gourmet chips and a FREE 21-oz. fountain drink. Must present coupon. Open daily from 8am to 8pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner. their outdoor patio, people watching and taking in the scenic Del Mar ocean view. Everyone knows that a restaurant is only as good as it’s chef. Quality, excellent service, and atmosphere are very important, but the chef is truly the one that brings it all together and makes you want to come back again and again. And no one does it better than Chef Adam Stuart at SBICCA in Del Mar. Chef Adam Stuart is a native San Diegan with an impressive array of experience and accolades. Adam graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas with honors. He then went on to work with some of the best chefs in the world including Charlie Palmer, Vincent Poussell and Mike Minor. After soaking up knowledge from the greats, he made his way back to San Diego to further his very impressive culinary career. He spent time at Whiskenladel and the Sky Room at La Valencia before moving on to the Vivace at the Four Seasons Aviara (now the Park Hyatt) where he honed his skills in
handmade pasta and pizza made from their wood burning pizza oven. His culinary journey then led him to Bernardo’s in Rancho Bernardo where he was the Sous Chef for 2 years before joining SBICCA to head up the kitchen. the Julian Pie Company Store and enjoyed some really great apple, and strawberry rhubarb pie. What surprised us more than anything is that we found that Carlsbad Ranch Market sells their pies for a dollar less than the pies right from the Julian Pie Company Store! As a matter of fact, Carlsbad Ranch Market sells their pies for less than anywhere we have found in North County! Julian Pie Company pies are fresh-baked and without preservatives, so you know when you buy one, it will be fresh. If you want to impress everyone at your family Easter gathering Carlsbad Ranch Market is the place to stock up on early spring corn, fresh picked strawberries, locally grown tomatoes, green beans, and their famous and extremely sweet ugly oranges. A very popular store item is their San Marzano canned tomatoes for only $3.79. And, they have a really great selection of hard to find Lithuanian
food products. Carlsbad Ranch Market is an indoor fruit and vegetable stand and much more. There isn’t a salad bar around that compares to the price and selection of their hot and cold salad bar. Daily made delicious soups, tortilla pie, lasagna, pastas, rice dishes, hot vegetable dishes and cold salad bar items are sold by weight. Buy a little or pile it on; either way, it’s so hard to hold back when you see their amazing selection. for the perfect way to start your day. Their classic breakfast sandwiches combine egg and your choice of peppered bacon, ham, sausage or turkey sausage on a hot fresh bagel. We recommend trying their Better Cheddar Sandwich. This delicious sandwich comes with an egg patty with cheddar cheese, peppered bacon, and light garlic herb cream cheese on a fresh baked bagel, toasted if you wish. Of course, their all-time favorite is their classic Smoked Salmon and cream cheese on a fresh bagel with tomato, red onions and capers. Yum! In addition to their famous bagels, breakfast sandwiches and bagel sandwiches, Bruegger’s also offers a healthier “Under 500 Calorie” menu. If you are a calorie counter, try one of their Skinny Bagels. Guests can now order any of Bruegger’s 15-plus varieties “skinny,” due to Bruegger’s
unique slicing process. Instead of changing the recipe of its time-tested, New York-style bagel, Bruegger’s slices the bagels thinner using a process that removes approximately one-third of the bagel’s center but preserves its unique eggshell crust and delicious toppings. The result is a lower calorie bagel without sacrificing variety or taste. Another healthy choice is their Skinny Zesty Egg White Sandwich. This comes with an egg white patty on a skinny sesame bagel, with turkey sausage, Swiss cheese and sundried tomato spread. Bruegger’s operates 300 bakeries in North America. Finish Chelsea’s Run at Balboa Park March 2, Saturday, 7:30am The 3rd annual Finish Chelsea’s Run, in honor of Chelsea King, will take place in Balboa Park, on March 2 at 7:30am, where Chelsea loved to visit and where she practiced with the San Diego Youth Symphony. The event will feature a competitive 5K race and fun run/walk, family festival, children’s activities, team competition, entertainment and refreshments. In 2010, in the weeks following the passing of stand-out high school student and athlete Chelsea King, a handful of members of the San Diego running community were so affected by her loss that they asked some of their friends to meet one Saturday to finish the run Chelsea started on February 25 in Rancho Bernardo Community Park. Chelsea’s life was cut short by a heinous act in the midst of her training run on that day in that park. Word quickly spread and on the morning of March 20, 2010 more than 3,500 community members joined together to run and
walk in solidarity with, and in honor of Chelsea, who they adopted as one of their own. The original grass-roots “Finish Chelsea’s Run” was such a moving and healing experience for the community that Kelly and Brent King decided to make it an official, annual tradition in San Diego hosted by the Chelsea’s Light Foundation, the organization they founded to make positive change for children. On March 5, 2011, more than 5,400 people participated in the inaugural Finish Chelsea’s Run 5K Run/ Walk in Balboa Park. The annual run/walk is helping Chelsea’s Light Foundation be able to better protect California’s 9.3 million children through Chelsea’s Law, and to raise funds that to date have provided college scholarships to 21 amazing kids, each powerful changemakers in their own ways. Poway Center for the Performing Arts The Capitol Steps February 16, Saturday, 8pm After an 11-year hiatus, The Capitol Steps return to Poway Center for the Performing Arts bringing their unique comedic sensibilities to the stage for a post-election year special! The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. The group was born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin. So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor. Missoula Children’s Theatre: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs March 16, Saturday, 3pm and 7pm See tomorrow’s stars on stage today! Part theater camp, part community gathering—all fun! The Missoula Children’s Theatre transforms more than 60 local children into stagesavvy thespians in just six days. Participating children will spend the week learning the trade of the stage—from auditions to rehearsals to a performance of an all-new musical version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance March 30, Saturday, 8pm Stash the gold, guard the women and hide the rum—the “Pirates” have arrived! Set sail on this swashbuckling Gilbert and Sullivan adventure loaded with enough laughs to fill Davey Jones’ locker. It follows the fortunes of Frederic, a young lad who is mistakenly apprenticed to the Pirate King. When Frederic falls for the lovely Mabel, whose father is the very model of a modern Major General, a tempest brews on the sea of love. YES at Pechanga Casino March 8, Friday In a career first, iconic and Grammy-winning rock band YES will be performing three of their classic albums in their entirety, all in one concert: 1971’s the YES album, 1972’s Close to the Edge and 1977’s Going for The One. This historic performance will be at Pechanga Casino Theater on March 8. This tour marks the first time since 1973 that YES—bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes and singer Jon Davidson have performed an album onstage in its entirety. The YES album is widely considered to be the multi-platinum progressive rock band’s breakthrough album. Certified platinum, it features such signature songs as “Yours Is No Disgrace” and “I’ve Seen All Good People.” The band’s album Close to The Edge was on the U.S. charts for 32 weeks, peaking at #3. A Rolling Stone review, which features the epic suites “Close To The Edge” and “You And I,” noted, “Yes’ colors are subtle, almost imperceptible tints, but the main strokes are bold and thick, applied with sureness and natural instinct.” For tickets visit www.ticketmaster.com.

2013 World Baseball Classic The 2013 World Baseball Classic is an international baseball competition. This season, the main tournament will be held from March 2 to 19. For the first time, a qualification round was played in fall 2012 that expands tournament participation from 16 to 28 teams. Japan enters this year as the two-time defending champion, having won the first two World Baseball Classics in 2006 and 2009. After a 3-year gap between the first two World Baseball Classic games, plans now call for the World Baseball Classic to be repeated every four years following the 2009 event, with the third installment of the Classic to occur in March of this year. The World Baseball Classic is an international baseball tournament sanctioned by the International Baseball
Federation (IBAF) and created by Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), and other professional baseball leagues and their players associations around the world. The tournament is the first of its kind to have national baseball teams feature professional players from the major leagues around the world including Major League Baseball. The Summer Olympics had regularly featured college and minor-league players because the Games conflicted with the major league seasons in both North America and Asia, and the Baseball World Cup historically did not have major leaguers participate. The World Baseball Classic was created to specifically promote the game of baseball around the globe.
LPGA Kia Classic at La Costa Resort The LPGA’s Kia Classic will be at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad from March 22 to March 24. The inaugural event was held at La Costa in 2010, but had to move for one year due to the resort’s $50 million golf course renovation in 2011. After a year in the Los Angeles area, the Kia Classic returned to La Costa in 2012 and featured the world’s best female golfers. La Costa Resort and Spa, home to one of golf’s iconic venues renamed its two 18-hole layouts—the Champions Course and Legends Course. The Champions Course, underwent a complete restoration. It is now paired with
March 2–19

the Legends Course, on which four holes were completely renovated. LPGA Tour rookie Hee Kyung Seo won the inaugural Kia Classic at La Costa as a sponsor exemption in 2010. In 2011, the Kia Classic was the stage for another breakout win as Germany’s Sandra Gal became a Rolex First Time Winner with her thrilling one-shot victory over eight-time LPGA Tour winner Jiyai Shin at Industry Hills Golf Club. It was Yani Tseng that won it all in 2012 at La Costa. Tournament week will feature a qualifier, practice rounds Monday and Tuesday, a Wednesday Pro-Am and four competitive rounds from Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are now available at www.kiaclassic.com.

The Importance Of Hair Care By Haim Knister, Owner of Haim Salon It is important to take care of our hair. While beauty may only be skin deep, looking young and healthy does wonders for selfesteem and confidence. Shiny, bouncy, healthy hair is a must for any type or length of hair. Hair is comprised of an inner layer or cortex that determines the color and texture of the hair. The cuticle, an outer layer protects the cortex. And they are both formed out of many layers and coils of proteins, mostly Keratin. Healthy hair is made up of 85% protein and 12% water. If there isn’t a proper balance between moisture and protein hair is difficult to manage. If hair doesn’t have moisture and the cuticle is dried out, hair will be dull and look dead or brittle. Protein keeps the hair strong but moisture is needed for elasticity. Excess oils are caused by scalp irritants that many hair products or the environment has, therefore the hair many not be getting the needed moisture. Understanding the ingredients in hair products is essential. Haim Salon has chosen Eufora products because their
advanced technology utilizes important botanical extracts that have been scientifically proven to benefit the hair, scalp and skin. Designed to protect, preserve and promote health of color treated and chemically serviced hair, Eufora is a blend of botanical extracts and Aloe Vera. Most products use water as a base, Eufora has raised the performance standard by using certified organic Aloe Vera gel as the product base. Known as the miracle plant, Aloe is rich in over 300 biologically active substances including nutrients, minerals and vitamins. The elements in Aloe are essential to cellular healing, renewal and growth, and it is a natural moisturizer. Haim Salon exclusively sells the Eufora product line including shampoos, conditioners, styling and finishing products . Using the right products along with taking the right vitamins, daily scalp massage, and hair trims will help you achieve your hair goals to look its best. Your hair is a byproduct of your body’s functions. Hair likes B complex, biotin, folic acid, iron, zinc, flax seed oil, black currant seed oil, kelp and silica. If you massage your scalp for 5 minutes a day, it can make your hair stronger, thicker and grow in faster. Massage stimulates blood supply and it brings nutrients to
the follicles. Just remember to use your fingertips, not your nails. The ends of your hair are the oldest, driest and most damaged hair on your head. Getting trims will keep the shape of your hair as well as keep it healthier. If you have long hair and wear it down all the time, you are exposing it to environmental damage. Air dries it out and wind causes tangles, so wearing it up will result in less dryness and breakage. Haim Knister is the owner of Haim Salon with three locations in the Del Mar Plaza, Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, and the Grand Del Mar Resort. His professional staff is dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest styles to help their client’s look and feel stunning and they are huge proponents of proper hair care. Relax for the Day at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort! Enjoy the Resort’s spa facilities including the use of the Relaxation Lounge, Jacuzzi, Steam Sauna, Fitness Center, and pool at the Park Hyatt Resort with any Salon visit. And, receive a FREE Conditioning Color Glosser with any Hair Salon service. ($50 value) Free Valet parking available. Call for appointment at (858) 259-0559 or visit www.haimltdsalon.com.

TIP TOP MEATS: Quality – Value – Variety Tip Top Meats was planned and built to be a traditional meat market with high standards. We differ from other stores where a makeshift meat department is added to a grocery or convenience store that sells meat related products. We at Tip Top Meats process thousands of pounds of meat every week. On a weekly basis, our full time staff of seven butchers and four sausage makers produces three to five thousand pounds of our fine sausages and lunch meats for our retail store and eatery only. That is the difference between a planed professional state licensed butcher shop and a makeshift meat department elsewhere. Our reliable meat suppliers provide us with consistent fine quality. We still sell whole sides of beef, sides of hogs and whole hogs, sides of lamb and veal and whole veal, and also the primal cuts are each sold at wholesale prices. We absolutely will cut the meat the way you like it and according to professional standards. Our prices will reflect the quality and the manner in which it is cut, trimmed, and handled with almost no waste. For the quality, price, and variety—we are the competition!
