North Coast Repertory Theatre We’re Giving Away Tickets Marjorie Prime Through February 5 This fascinating, skillfully wrought family drama is set in the near future, when artificial intelligence has reached new heights and lifelike robots provide companionship for the lonely. A finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize, this thought-provoking play about memory is guaranteed to inspire stimulating conversations long after audiences leave the theatre. The Illusion February 22 – March 19 Legendary playwright Tony Kushner displays his brilliance in this wildly inventive tour de force, which celebrates the magic and illusory nature of theatre. With crackling, contemporary language and sheer artistry, Kushner creates a wildly entertaining tale of passion, regret, love and magic. The Illusion transports audiences on a wondrous journey filled with laughter and a few tears along the way. Hey! I’m Tha Mama February 27 and 28
Hey! I’m Tha Mama is a musical journey that tells the story of internationally renowned Jazz recording artist Spanky Wilson and her Broadway Star daughter Angela Teek. The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron March 6 and 7 Men and women from eighteen to eighty will laugh non-stop as Robert Dubac embarks on a quest to answer the age old question, “What do women want?” In this hilarious solo show, Dubac seamlessly transforms himself into five boneheads who offer sidesplitting advice on how to best straddle the gender gap. Impro Theatre: Dorothy Parker Unscripted March 13 Travel back in time to the Roaring '20s and join Impro Theatre’s Main Company for an evening of completely improvised short stories inspired by the legendary wit of Dorothy Parker. The Brooks Theatre presents: Eurydice February 10 – 26 Oceanside Theatre Company, the resident theatre company of The Brooks Theatre and Studio 219, presents “Eurydice”, by award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl. The production is directed by Dhyana Dahl, Interim Artistic Director of Oceanside Theatre Company. Performance dates are February 10 to 26, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm. In Greek mythology, Eurydice was an oak nymph and one of the daughters of the god of music and light Apollo. She was the wife of Orpheus, who tried to bring her back from the dead with his enchanting music. The play focuses on a unique and modern retelling of the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, as seen through the female perspective. The audience is taken on an enchanting, allegorical journey from the land of the living to the depths of the underworld. The story centers around a young woman who has died a tragic early death, only to be reconnected with her father in the underworld. All of the monumental father-daughter moments are captured so eloquently in this play: teaching a child to read, reminiscing over family stories, and giving a daughter away at her wedding. Eurydice transitions into womanhood, as she leaves the comfort and protection of her father’s arms to begin her new life with her husband Orpheus. With heartfelt themes of music, love, loss, and discovering your own truth, Eurydice will make the audience leave the theatre feeling emotionally moved and imaginatively nourished.
La Jolla Playhouse Presents: Freaky Friday Through March 12 When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before Mom’s big wedding. This new musical comedy is a contemporary update of an American classic in which a mother and daughter experience each other’s lives first-hand and learn what it means to be a family. Performances take place at Mandell Weiss Theatre, which is located at 2910 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla. For more information call (858) 550-1010 or visit www. lajollaplayhouse.org.
Sarah Ruhl is one of the most innovative and celebrated playwrights of our time, recently honored with this year’s prestigious Steinberg Distinguish Playwright Award. Dhyana Dahl is the Interim Artistic Director at Oceanside Theatre Company, having previously worked alongside founding Artistic Director Christopher Williams, as his Associate AD. She recently directed OTC’s productions of Baby With the Bathwater and Seussical, Jr. The professional cast is headed by local North County actor Morgan Taylor Altenhoff as Eurydice, New York actor John Maltese as Orpheus (recent credits include Utah Shakespeare Festival, Great River Shakespeare Festival, and Arkansas Rep), and Los Angeles based film and theatre actor Tavis L. Baker as The Interesting Man/Lord of the Underworld. Designers include: Jason Adkins (set), Paul Canaletti (lighting), Bryon Andersen (sound), and Hannah Riffel (costumes). This production features a stellar cast, live music, captivating lighting, and original stage design. The Brooks Theatre is at 217 N Coast Highway, Oceanside. Star Theatre Company Presents: Barefoot in the Park February 10 – 19 Star Theatre Company proudly presents a light-hearted production of Barefoot in the Park from February 10 to 19. This romantic comedy from the 1960s peers into the New York City apartment of a newlywed couple and follows their life together over the course of four days. Paul is a straight-laced lawyer and Corie is a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find—too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighborin-the-attic, Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does. Corie doesn’t think that Paul understands her. He’s too straight-laced, too boring, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. For instance, running “barefoot in the park” would be a start. Star Theatre is located at 402 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. For more information call (760) 721-9983 or visit www.startheatreco.com.

MiraCosta College Theatre Oklahoma March 9-19 Take a beautiful morning surrey ride that celebrates the pioneer spirit and the daily struggles of the settler life. Oklahoma, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, garnered a special Pulitzer Prize. It made history by uniting well-drawn characters and linear plot structure with song and dance, which served as the model for Broadway shows for decades. With iconic songs like “Oklahoma,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” and “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” audiences won’t want to miss this piece of American musical history. MiraCosta College is located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. For more information call (760) 795-6815 or visit www.miracosta.edu/buytix.
Initiative to Lift Medical Marijuana Ban in Oceanside Dave and Amber Newman are working on an initiative that would lift the medical marijuana ban in the City of Oceanside. The couple say their initiative will require the City to adopt an ordinance that will establish sensible regulations for the sale of medical marijuana, and provides patients access to safe, affordable, lab tested medication, while keeping our kids and neighborhoods safe by requiring state ID with proof of age before being able to purchase any medical marijuana product. The Newmans help patients grow their medication in their own homes or gardens. The couple feels it’s better to grow your own plants, so you can control pesticides and strain choices that work best for you. The Newmans understand that not everyone can grow for themselves due to restrictions such as not owning the property, or age and ailment related issues, so dispensaries are necessary and up to 13 would be allowed in the city. Their initiative will also allow for cultivation, manufacturing, and clinical testing facilities. The city of Oceanside overwhelmingly supported Prop 64, the legalization of marijuana for adults over the age of 21, and the Newman’s feel they have enough support from the voters of the city to get the signatures required that will put the initiative on the 2018 ballot should the City Council decide not to adopt their initiative. They are lobbying the City and the residents of Oceanside, as well as its surrounding neighbors to lift the Council’s ban, and avoid a time consuming and costly campaign. Their initiative is medical only, but hopes someday the council will move into the recreational market. For now, they feel this is a great start for North County patients who are seeking a better and safer alternative to obtain their medical marijuana. If you would like more information, or would like to get involved, you can contact them through their website www.oceansideforasafercommunity.org.

This Vista neighborhood brewery is homegrown and has remained true to their roots. Join the fun on Saint Patrick’s Day, from 4-10pm, for a special “Feel Good Friday” celebration. Enjoy a live DJ, with a food truck and drink specials. As always, they’ll be serving $1 beers during Power Hour from 6-7pm. Follow the mystery and discover the mastery of quality craft beer at Latitude 33. They have grown from a stream to a raging waterfall that pours its loyal customers some of the most undeniably unique and satisfying craft beer on the market. Proudly brewed on the 33rd parallel, their masterfully crafted beers are bold and complex with overtones of lost cities and secret societies. They deliver the distinc-
tive flavor of unsolvable labyrinths, with balanced notes of illusion, alchemy, and a touch of urban legend. The Latitude 33 team consistently produces quality, great tasting, true craft beer. Their multi-award-winning Blood Orange IPA is juicy and refreshing and has a 7.2% ABV. Their Lifted Embargo IPA was brewed for San Diego’s insatiable taste buds. It’s a dry, crisp IPA with a citrus aroma, followed by a burst of bitterness that hits hard but doesn’t linger, and has a 7.1% ABV. Their Honey Hips Strong Blonde Ale is their most famous beer, with a pale golden color and aromas of clover honey and spicy citrus. The honey hips of this strong, beautiful blonde, at 8.3% ABV, will surely make you smile and want to go back for seconds ;). Barrel Harbor Brewing
“May the winds of fortune sail you. May you sail a gentle sea. May it always be the other guy who says, “this drink’s on me!” Lift your anchor and hoist a brew, we’re sure you’ll find good fortune at Barrel Harbor on St. Patricks’s Day! It may not be green, but Barrel Harbor Brewing’s latest beer release sure seems perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. Sublime Panda-monium is a lime vanilla cream ale originally crafted by homebrewer Steven Wheeler, who brewed his creation on Barrel Harbor’s system after winning a contest at Vista’s 2016 Strawberry Festival. It’s Key lime pie in a glass! Barrel Harbor recently canned two of their best selling beers: Fenris IPA and South Island Pilsner. The mosaic hopped Fenris provides hop heads with a tropical, west coast IPA, with a style that’s nearly a requirement at San Diego breweries. South Island Pilsner caters to both novice and experienced drinkers as this classic European style has been dry hopped with Motueka hops from New Zealand. Try their multi-award winning Barrel Harbor Brown Ale. It’s an English Brown made with American honey malt, crystal and darker malts, with Golding hops and a British yeast. Delicious.
On top of upping the number of beers on tap, Barrel Harbor has been ambitious of late. Most notably, the three-year-old brewery opened a second location in Miramar (or ‘Beeramar’ as this brewery-dense region is known to locals). At Ease @ Barrel Harbor provides a unique atmosphere for craft beer lovers while catering to gamers. Connected to its partner business, At Ease Games, the large space supplies board games in the bar area while offering tournament style amenities in the back. A dozen custom made tables provide hobbyists with ample room for miniature-based gaming. An upstairs area that doubles as a private event space completes the new location. Like the original Vista tasting room, the Miramar spot offers a 20% discount to members of the military, law enforcement, and the fire service community. Keep your eyes peeled for Barrel Harbor cans at your favorite liquor stores, and be sure to pay a visit to At Ease @ Barrel Harbor! Brewery and Tasting Room is located at 2575 Pioneer Ave, #104, Vista 92081, or visit their new Tasting Room in Miramar at 8990 Miramar Rd., Suite 150, San Diego 92126. Dining, Sipping, and Drinking Bushfire Kitchen
If you’re a fan of Urban Plates, then you’ll absolutely love Bushfire Kitchen. Now open in Del Mar, residents and visitors are quickly discovering the very popular Bushfire Kitchen in the Beach Side Shopping Center (next to Starbucks) on Del Mar Heights Road. With 4-5 star ratings on Yelp and Trip Advisor, they specialize in farm fresh food made the old fashion way. Dishes are made from scratch, using the finest ingredients and cooked with bold flavors. The Zagat review states “Organic, grass-fed BBQ is the name of the game at these popular ‘cue specialists in La Costa and now Del Mar, serving grassfed hamburgers, antibiotic-free chicken and locally sourced vegetables alongside scratch-made breads and dressings.” We give Bushfire high ratings for quality, healthy, organic, humanely raised food with bold flavors and affordable prices. Take your oneand-only on a special date on Valentine’s Day. Bushfire serves breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner. If you’re a coffee fan, start your morning with a cup of gourmet coffee with beans from Zumbar Coffee of Sorrento Valley, ground fresh daily. Try a frothy steamed espresso latte for only $3.75, with an order of eggs benedict or French toast. For lunch and dinner awaken your taste buds with their tender, slow-braised Angus Beef Brisket or their Chipotle
Short Ribs. Their slow-braise oven cooks meats overnight and assures the meat falls off the bone. Their 1/2 lb. succulent burgers are made from fresh, never frozen, organic grass-fed beef or lamb. We recommend The Californian that comes with sharp cheddar, local avocado, wild baby arugula, tomato, house-pickled red onions and basil pesto aioli sauce. Wow! Dine inside their beautiful recycled wood paneled walls and high beamed ceiling restaurant or dine on their comfortable and exquisitely lit outdoor patio complete with outdoor bar. They have 12 craft beers on tap and have a lovely wine selection. Everything on the menu is made from scratch and their bread, rolls and buns are baked fresh in-house daily. Side dishes include baked sweet potato, organic brown rice, Himalayan Basmati rice, garlic mashed potatoes, bacon and baked beans and cooked-to- order fries. Try their premium hot sides and cold salads. One of our favorites is their Quinoa, Beet and Wild Arugula Salad. Keeping the earth’s ecology in mind, to-go boxes are made from recycled cardboard. Bushfire is a warm, family-friendly, healthy environment, that you will be happy to call your second home. Del Mar Bushfire Kitchen is located at 2602 Del Mar Heights Rd, Del Mar 92014. Call (858) 461-0946 or visit www.bushfirekitchen.com for their other locations.
Poor Boy Subs
Originally in Pacific Beach and Clairmont Mesa, Poor Boy Subs has finally opened its newest location in Carlsbad Village. This widely popular sub and sandwich shop serves freshly baked and toasted bread subs, wraps, and salads. We’ve been enjoying their sandwiches for years; but now don’t have far to drive anymore. We especially love their signature Bellybuster premium sub sandwich. The Bellybuster is an Italian sub stuffed with ham, pepperoni, capocolla, salami, and cheese. Select from a variety of toppings and dressings and, if you prefer, ask for it on a toasted bun. Clip their coupon from their ad or from our coupon pages and get a FREE bag of chips and a fountain drink. Another one of our favorites is their Santa Fe premium sub stuffed with roasted chicken, avocado,
Jalapeno bacon and pepper jack cheese. We usually get it with banana peppers, tomatoes, onion, and olives, topped with Chipotle sauce. Fresh, delicious, Classic Subs or Wraps, such as Turkey, Roast Beef, Ham, and Veggie are only $5.99. Specialty Subs such as Club, Tuna Salad and others are $6.99. Toasted Subs, like Meatball Marinara, Pastrami and French Dip, are $6.99. Premium Subs are only $7.49. Hand Tossed salads are $7.99. All subs come in small, medium and large sizes. You can order a variety of sides, such as chips, soup, potato salad, or garden salad, to go with your sandwich, as well as bottled or fountain drinks. Poor Boy Subs is located next to Starbucks and Jamba Juice in the Village Faire Shopping Center at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad 92008. Call (760) 730-3045.

Two Milestones: John Haedrich’s 88th Birthday and the 50th Anniversary of Tip Top Meats By: Andy Lee
(L-R) Chris Kydd, Coast News Group, Andy Lee, North County Sun, Alice Jacobson, Seaside Courier, John Haedrich, Tip Top Meats
John Haedrich, the soft-spoken big man, owner, and master butcher of Tip Top Meats has reached two milestones that very few people ever will. Big John, as most people endearingly know him, celebrated his 88th birthday on January 3, and this year his world famous German Butcher Shop and European Delicatessen, Tip Top Meats, turns 50 years old. What’s truly amazing and inspirational is that John still goes to work every day, cuts meat, makes sausage, and runs the show from morning until night, and greets his guests with kind words, thanks, and his big infectious smile. On a recent morning, while I was enjoying breakfast with John, four different guests came over to our table to say hello and shower him with compliments and praise. It’s like that every day. People’s appreciation of the cuisine, as well as their love and respect for the man, is a wonderful thing to behold. I told John that I was going to write an article about him and Tip Top’s 50th anniversary, and he impressed upon me how much he didn’t want to boast about himself or his accomplishments, and said, “Every day I thank God and want all of our customers to know that their friendship and loyalty is what makes Tip Top Meats
what it is today. My love and appreciation for my customers comes from my heart and I can’t thank them enough.” John’s lifetime achievements and philanthropy are the reason he has received so many awards and recognition, including the Legacy Award from Tri-City Hospital Foundation, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, and a Certificate of Appreciation from Supervisor Bill Horn. John has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as food and livestock, to many organizations including Tri-City Hospital, the Jewish Veterans of America, Temples, Churches, 4-H Clubs, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Camp Pendleton families. He remembers all the wonderful letters, especially the ones from the 4-H Club youth, when he purchased their pigs and livestock at fair auctions. He reminisces how much the letters meant to him, knowing how much it helped pay for their college scholarships. The child of a butcher in East Germany, and a boxer at an early age, he aspired to become a champion, but truly knew he wanted to be a champion butcher. He emigrated from Berlin to the USA and boarded a ship in 1959 on his birthday, from Hamburg Germany, and arrived at San Pedro Harbor on February 6. He opened his butcher shop
in Glendale in 1967. Later, John moved to San Diego and opened Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad in 1979, across the street from Hadley Farms on Paseo del Norte. With his vision, and the craftsmanship of a master butcher, he provides top quality meat at reasonable prices, and has built a reputation as a destination butcher shop and deli that truly is worldclass and well known. John is one of the last of the master butchers of the world. He consistently cuts, trims, and processes meat the right way, not like commercial supermarket butchers. Tip Top Meats has won many awards including: Best German Restaurant by UT Readers Poll; Hall of Fame from Carlsbad Chamber; and a Gold Medal by the California Restaurant Association. You would think that this man has done enough in his lifetime; but at the age of 88 he is still going strong and is opening something new and special, Top Choice Fish —Market and Eatery “Fish in Motion” this spring, next door to Tip Top Meats. I’m sure that it, too, will become a popular San Diego destination. Happy 88th Birthday John! Congratulations on the 50th Anniversary of Tip Top Meats, and all the best with Top Choice Fish! Tip Top Meats is located at 6118 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad 92011. Visit www. tiptopmeats.com.

Pelly’s Fish Market and Grill
The days are getting longer and warming up. Located just steps from Carlsbad State Beach, sit under an umbrella on their patio on a sunny morning or afternoon. Pelly's is the perfect place for a late breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and the local place of choice for the freshest fish, and people watching. Located in the Poinsettia Village Shopping Center, between Starbucks and Subway, you’ll enjoy some of the tastiest char-grilled fish sandwiches, plates, or salads in San Diego. The food is simply amazing and their Fresh Fish Market is always stocked with your favorites, including great local catch. Pelly’s is the number one place to order custom-made seafood platters. Their very popular seafood platters will suit any size Super Bowl party or family get-together. Select any combination of fish or crustacean for your platter from their seafood display including fresh ahi sashimi, salmon sashimi, jumbo shrimp, ceviche, stone crab, bay shrimp salad, and more. If you prefer, they can make a “cooked” seafood platter for you too. Pelly’s is one of the original fresh fish markets in Coastal North
County. On any given day, depending on the season, Pelly’s Fish Market offers lobster (when in season) large fillets of fresh ahi, yellowtail, albacore, mahi-mahi, halibut, Atlantic salmon, swordfish, sea bass, and a wide assortment of local shellfish including oysters, clams and mussels. Pelly’s has an excellent reputation with locals for serving their signature char-grilled entrees. We recommend their char-grilled mahimahi, halibut, and grilled fish tacos. If you’re in the mood for a salad, try their fresh Ono salad, Pelly’s special salad, or their stone crab salad. They have the best chowder, too! Try their famous Manhattan red or Boston white clam chowder. Pelly’s is not a fancy sit-down restaurant; but the quality of their freshly prepared seafood more than makes up for it, and their prices are very reasonable. Check the board for their Catch of the Day. Pelly’s Fish Market is open 7-days a week. They are located in the Poinsettia Village Shopping Center at 7110 Avenida Encinas #101, Carlsbad CA 92011. Bruegger’s Bagels
Bruegger’s Bagels is open every day of the year. Try a Bruegger’s Turkey Sandwich on a hot-from-the-oven Jalapeno and cheese or onion bagel. Or start your day with one of their classic breakfast sandwiches with an egg and your choice of peppered bacon, ham, sausage or turkey sausage on a hot fresh bagel. We recommend their Western Bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, cheddar, chipotle sauce, green pepper, red pepper, and red onion on a hot bagel. Of course, our all-time favorite is their classic Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese, stacked high on a fresh bagel with sliced tomato, red onions and capers. Try one of their delicious French toast bagels, with cream cheese. Yum! In addition to their famous bagels, breakfast sandwiches and bagel sandwiches, Bruegger’s also offers a healthier “Under 500 Calorie” menu. If you are a calorie counter, try one of their Skinny
Bagels. Guests can now order any of Bruegger’s 15-plus varieties “skinny,” due to Bruegger’s unique slicing process. Instead of changing the recipe of its time-tested, New York-style bagel, Bruegger’s slices the bagels thinner using a process that removes approximately one-third of the bagel’s center but preserves its unique eggshell crust and delicious toppings. The result is a lower calorie bagel without sacrificing variety or taste. Bruegger’s operates 300 bakeries in North America with 8 bakeries in San Diego. Renowned for its award winning bagels, Bruegger’s offers a wide variety of freshly prepared breakfast and lunch options made with high quality ingredients served with its unique brand of hospitality. Visit Brueggers in La Costa at 7680 El Camino Real, Carlsbad 92009, or find a location near you at www.brueggers.com.

Alexia Markarian: Desire Is Never Enough February 1–April 30 Alexia Markarian’s landscapes “suggest sets in some visionary theater…” wrote Robert Pincus in Art in America. In the Los Angeles Times, Leah Ollman, wrote that Markarian’s paintings “gave birth to a fantastic and rich realm somewhere between the organic and the surreal, where base instincts ruled and a seductive gleam filled the air.” Markarian has been making artwork—challenging and often confrontational artwork—in a very wide range of media (paintings, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media) for more than 30 years. A restless experimenter and creator, she is known for using common materials in unexpected ways throughout her sculptural and design work—not to mention for presenting work that is psychologically charged. Save Hundreds or Thousands of Dollars By Having Dental Work Done In Tijuana By Andy Lee
I have a very good dental plan, but it doesn’t cover gums, molar crowns, some root canals, bridges, etc. I recently cracked the porcelain of a 15-year old crown and it wasn’t covered under my dental insurance. I called a few San Diego dental offices and was quoted between $1,100–$1,500 for a porcelain over metal crown. I went online to look at dentist reviews, and found a dentist in Tijuana, Shirley Baker, D.D.S. She was advertising permanent porcelain crowns for $320. Her Englishspeaking receptionist convinced me that I should give it a try. The next morning I drove to the border and parked my car on the U.S. side and walked across. It’s a bit of a walk and you should bring a friend. The dental office had a yellow taxi waiting for me (no charge!) The driver spoke perfect English and in 5 minutes we arrived at the office. There was a coffee shop on the first floor lobby. I bought a latte. The elevator person opened the elevator door and
used her card and pushed the 3rd floor button for me. I opened the door and the office looked just as nice as any dental office in the U.S. and better than most. I filled out a detailed dental history form. There was a woman sitting next to me and told me her husband was getting a root canal and that they have been coming here for six years. They too live in San Diego. Dr. Baker and everyone there spoke perfect English and were very professional. After an X-ray the doctor and hygienist went to work. They gave me an iPod to listen to music. After removing the cracked crown she took another X-ray because she found a large cavity below the gum line under the old crown. She proceeded to remove the decay, filled the cavity, took an impression for a new crown, and gave me a temporary crown. I returned in 10 days for the permanent crown, and it looks more natural than my other two crowns. Total cost was $320 plus $50 for the filling. I saved over $1,000. A taxi drove me back to the border (no charge). I saved over $1,000 and the experience was great. Here is Dr. Shirley Baker’s number (619) 270-2165. Home Sellers Advisory Advisory #1: Beware of the “High Price” listing presentation. These agents have one goal and that is to get a signed listing contract by presenting an unrealistic high list price, and knowing that the seller will eventually have to lower the list price to sell their home. Two clever responses can help sellers mitigate this scenario. Advisory #2: Beware of the “Universal Phone Call” that goes something like this; “Hello, I have a buyer interested in buying your home, are you interested in selling?” Truth is very few of these solicitation calls have a specific buyer. If you answer yes to their question, then simply ask them to put their buyer’s name on a “single party” listing agreement, so your obligation to pay a reduced commission is only if that specific buyer buys your home. Advisory #3: Beware of the “Great Promise”. These agents convincingly tell you that they list and sell most of their own listings, with no other agent involved . . . .and because of this, they will lower the total listing commission from 5 or 6% to 3% when they sell your home themselves. The truth is, very few agents list and sell their own listings! This is easily verified by an MLS printout of SOLD listings that clearly shows the listing and selling offices involved in all the sales. Are they the same offices? . . . probably not. Advisory #4: Beware of a lower than normal commission posted in the MLS to “buyer’s broker”. While commissions are negotiable, money motivates sales people. Buyer’s agents typically expect a minimum of 2.5% for selling a median priced home . . . and they deserve it! If less than 2.5% is proposed by your listing agent, ask them for an MLS printout of the listings for your neighborhood that will clearly show the commissions paid to other buyer brokers. Rarely will you see less than 2.5%. You want maximum agent motivation to sell your home by offering at least 2.5% to the buyer’s broker. This advisory to home sellers is provided as a courtesy by David Boe, owner and broker of Boe Real Estate; sharing 30-years of local broker experience from selling over 1,000 homes. David Boe personally handles all the negotiations and required paperwork. David Boe has saved his buyers and sellers thousands of dollars with reduced commissions to sellers and rebates to buyers.
Patrick’s Day! Try their awardwinning Barrel Harbor Brown Ale. It’s an English Brown made with honey malt, crystal malt, and darker malts, with Golding hops and a British yeast. Delicious! Barrel Harbor recently canned two of their best selling beers: Fenris IPA and South Island Pilsner. Their mosaic hopped Fenris provides hop heads with a tropical, west coast IPA. Their South Island Pilsner caters to both novice and experienced drinkers, as this classic European style has been dry hopped with Motueka hops from New Zealand. Brewery and Tasting Room is located at 2575 Pioneer Ave, #104, Vista, and their newest Tasting Room is located at 8990 Miramar Rd., #150, San Diego.
