OH, THE PLACES WE WILL GO!

One of the most wonderful parts of yachting is having friends all over the world. Friends with the common bonds of boats, addictions to the water, fascinations with travel and a genuine love of learning. I am sitting in our beautiful Antibes office, writing this CEO letter encouraging you, dear reader, to get out and explore. Thanks to our ties to yachting, it’s like we have a home base everywhere! Already this year, I have been to Spain, London, Italy, France, Australia, Bermuda (sorry we didn’t win the Cup!) and of course, throughout the States. Wherever we (my lovely wife Mariette and I) go, we know a boat, a person or have been offered a great recommendation. Right now, the South of France is alive with summer excitement. Matthew, our son, is studying immersion French in Aix on Provence and having a great time. Suzie, a client’s daughter, is interning in the N&J Antibes office and having a lot of fun — she is fine, Mom and Dad! Our dear friends on BUNTY are docked here in Antibes (thanks for a very fun evening!); it is a wonderful, lively, exciting place to be.

Joost, Simon, Natascha, Jochen, Stephan and Michael are having a great season with excellent weather, lots of sun and outstanding sailing. While visiting Cameron Bray, et al, in our Australia office, Mariette and I attended the Australian Superyacht & Marine Export Conference. We held a koala, which is not a bear, and fed a kangaroo, who had a joey in her pouch. We also had breakfast at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney, which is a favorite memory of this trip. The team in Australia is young, full of energy and life and incredibly enthusiastic. It was a real treat to be with them. And now I’m looking forward to getting back to Asia. Bart Kimman heads up seven offices in that part of the world. He and his wife Sytske are always exceptional hosts. They travel more than anyone I know and have an excellent grasp of the region, in case you’re inclined to visit!

Our Marketing & Communications Manager and the Managing Editor of this publication, Janine St.Denis, climbed Machu Picchu a few years back, inspiring our son Matthew to do the same; so, it was added to the list we created, called “Oh the Places We Will Go!” This coming week, we’ll head down to Italy, Here are a few other must-visits on that list, then back to Barcelona — one of the most in no particular order. In Africa, we want to amazing cities I have visited. Hopefully, we’ll visit Okavango; all the Tennis Grand Slams, enjoy a quick stop over to our Palma office. including Australia, Paris, London and New

York are on the list; we want to go Pacific-island exploring; the list goes on to include Madrid, Alaska, a tour on the Canadian Rockies train, Angkor Wat, Tibet, China, Egypt, India, Moscow, hiking the Grand Canyon, staying at the Yellowstone Lodge and, of course — since it’s right in our backyard — extensive cruising of The Bahamas. We’re constantly adding to the list as places are crossed off. It’s amazing how large the world is and how much there is to see. Thanks to our friends in yachting, we feel like we have a home — or at least a connection — everywhere we go. I hope you all develop the same. I am extremely lucky to get to work with the finest team of individuals in the industry and the best clients in the biz. That is why I’m able to travel the world and explore as I do. And while I truly appreciate you, dear readers, for slogging through my “observations,” it’s time for you to get out and do some exploring yourselves. Now, go plan a trip! Carpe diem,

01 2017 Yachts Miami Beach Northrop & Johnson enjoyed a busy Yachts Miami Beach show in February 2017. With nine yachts in the show for sale and an additional five for charter, there was a lot of action happening on the docks of Island Gardens Deep Harbour Marina on Watson Island and the Indian Creek Waterway at Collins Avenue. Northrop & Johnson brokers from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Newport, Rhode Island offices were on hand to meet with clients and show yachts. The “superyacht” section of the show at Island Gardens Deep Harbour Marina on Watson Island was a big hit, allowing those interested in the larger-sized yachts a break from the hustle and bustle of Collins Avenue. In true Miami fashion, the temperatures were warm and the deals were hot. Northrop & Johnson sold at least one yacht as a direct result of the show.

02 2017 Palm Beach International Boat Show Despite a blustery opening day, the 2017 Palm Beach International Boat Show lucked out when it came to weather. The end of South Florida’s winter season played nice, (after a serious squall on Thursday) ushering in lots of sunshine and beautiful breezes, turning the docks into the perfect place to spend an afternoon admiring the myriad of luxury boats and superyachts lining the Intracoastal Waterway. From March 23 to 26, West Palm Beach was bustling with yachting professionals, crewmembers, owners and enthusiasts. Northrop & Johnson was proud to be at the show with a host of luxury superyachts for sale and for charter, including DOUBLE DOWN, CASINO ROYALE (pictured, right), LADY JOY, MITseaAH, ARGYLL, CHECKMATE, MAG III, BRIO, LI-LIEN, SEALYON, INDIGO, AZZURA, PHANTASMA, INEVITABLE, UNSINKABLE and EL COYOTE.Northrop & Johnson’s chic stand not only played host to sales and charter brokers from N&J offices around the world, but it also was a wonderful gathering place for clients. In addition, Northrop & Johnson’s Strategic Global Partners, Chai Rum, Crystal Cruises, Lufthansa First Class and Marsh Insurance joined in the fun at the stand. In partnership with Tesla for the show, Northrop & Johnson offered VIP car service for clients and guests. On Friday evening, more than 200 guests joined in for the ’49 Elite Cocktails & Yacht Hop event held at the N&J stand. The delightful sounds of local Palm Beach musician Xander James had guests swaying in the warm South Florida breeze as they sipped cocktails crafted by Chai Rum, enjoyed Champagne, nibbled 02 on bites and hopped on and off N&J’s impressive inventory. Saturday and Sunday saw a steady flow of traffic and the sunny skies beckoned visitors; and at 5 p.m. the yachts blew their horns, signaling the end of another successful show.

K N O W S

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A YACHT SELLER SHOULD DO BEFORE PUTTING THE YACHT ON THE MARKET FOR SALE?

01 “Before placing a yacht on the market, a seller should make sure the yacht is cosmetically clean and well maintained with all service up to date. Minimal personal items should be visible. The yacht’s location should be easily accessible with arrangements made with the crew or marina/ boatyard staff ahead of time in the event of last-minute showing requests. First impressions are lasting impressions, so it’s important to put your best foot forward each and every time.” Jonathan Chapman Sales Broker Newport, Rhode Island

02 “The seller should arrange to be represented by a professional brokerage house. He should do research to find a broker that is the most specialized for his type of yacht. Considering that, most of the time, many sellers want to set a higher price than a buyer would be prepared to pay, the role of a professional broker is extremely important to help the seller to define the asking price. The buyer will have prepared invoices and surveys of works; the seller will defend the asking price based on the amount of money he has spent “creating the perfect yacht;” but the broker, although sympathetic and understanding, must be objective and show the seller the true current market value for his type of yacht. Brokers also should be reasonable with sellers. If the seller sets the price too high and the broker accepts just to get the listing, it’s very likely that within the first year, the broker will ask the seller to reduce the price, which leads to a considerable amount of time on the market wasted. Finally, I always advise that the seller do a survey on the yacht if she is not in class. Not only will it benefit the owner, it also will benefit a buyer who will get more-or-less a second opinion. Buyers usually trust these surveys, if they’re not too old, and this could help move along the buying process.” Jochen Brill Sales Broker Palma, Mallorca

03 “In order to achieve a successful sale, three criteria need to be satisfied. The first is condition. The yacht must show better than she ever has. The saying about never being able to make a second first impression resounds with yacht sales. Buyers have hundreds of similar yachts to choose from, so you need to make sure yours stands out in the crowd. The second is location. The placement of the yacht is crucial. Here’s the scenario: when buyers come into town to meet with the broker and view yachts, they’re typically tight on time. The broker will have a selection picked out and if your yacht is inconvenient or too far away from the main hub, it’s the first to be eliminated. The third criteria is price. Gone are the days when buyers relied solely on their brokers’ advice regarding value and pricing. In this information-rich world, buyers have at their fingertips huge databases to establish whether a yacht is correctly priced, which makes getting it right more important than ever before. The reality is, if you’re overpriced then condition and location are irrelevant because no one will want to see the boat. If condition or location are off, buyers will use this to justify reducing the price with aggressive offers.” Philip Bell Sales Broker Fort Lauderdale, Florida

SPOTLIGHT

IAN KERR Q How did you get your start in the yachting industry and how did you become a yacht surveyor? A I started in the yachting industry in 1973 as an apprentice boat builder in New Zealand. In 1979, I delivered a yacht to the States; I was part of the build team for this yacht. From there, it was a slow progression.

I became a yacht captain and ran yachts for several years; these included racing sail boats and larger yachts. In 1992, when my daughter was born, I decided to move ashore and combine my original boat building training with the knowledge I garnered while at the helm as a captain to become a yacht surveyor.

Please share with us a bit of insight on your current role as a yacht surveyor. Currently, I am working on new build projects in Germany, Holland, Italy and the U.S. as the owners’ surveyor. I also am involved in regular pre-purchase condition surveys, valuation surveys for banks and the occasional insurance claim as the owner’s representative. About 60 percent of this involves new construction yachts and about 40 percent is pre-purchase.

01 Luxury yacht surveyor Ian Kerr of Kerr Maritime

N A V I G A T O R S P O T L I G H T

What is the most difficult aspect of your position as a yacht surveyor? I have to say that the fact that there are no non-disclosure laws can make it tough. It is buyer beware. If you’re selling a yacht, you don’t have to disclose anything. It then falls to the surveyor to find any problems. How long would you say it takes to do a full survey? The length of a survey first and foremost depends on the size of the vessel. The average yacht size that I survey is between 40 and 60 meters. This will take three or four men, between three and five days on board, including haul-out for bottom examination and a sea trial. We also survey smaller yachts that can be done in one or two days.

Please share with us a glimpse of what you’re looking for when doing a survey. I have a worksheet that I work off and we have templates, but each survey is different because each yacht is different. After surveying yachts for so many years, we have created check lists for yachts that are type-specific. As surveyors, we must be objective about the condition of the yacht on the day it is surveyed. The survey belongs to the instructing client. Sometimes the potential buyer wants clarification or has questions; sometimes, he or she wants to cut out a deal. The survey report clarifies the condition of the yacht and this may result in an adjustment of the sale price.

Please share your best advice for a seller going into a survey. What is the most common issue you I’d suggest to any owner to have the yacht find on yachts that you survey? surveyed before you go to sell it. This Honestly, it’s different every time. The way, there are fewer surprises when the common issues generally are based on the buyer commissions a survey. Generally, the yachts that practice have some expertise to look at a yacht to regular surveys are the yachts with the decide if it’s good or not, they may not be least amount of issues. the most objective. A classic example is to measure the draft; I often find that the draft is misrepresented; this is a critical facet of the yacht if the owner wants to use it for cruising in The Bahamas.

What are some of the worst things you’ve seen during a survey? I’ve witnessed yachts that are patently unsafe in terms of their overall condition and the condition of the safety and lifesaving equipment on board. When we come across a yacht like that, there is a high probability that there are multiple problems. When we see an item on a yacht, particularly related to safety, that needs to be addressed, we will advise the crew during the survey; then it also will be identified in the report for the client. On occasion, we will find that with smaller yachts run by an owner/operator or perhaps a captain with no engineer, they truly aren’t aware of problems, which is why surveys are important even if you’re not planning to sell.

2 5

Where do brokers fit in during the survey process? Most brokers do a fabulous job of organizing a survey; these brokers are realistic with regard to timelines, setting up the dry docking, liaising with the shipyard, etc. There is a definite difference between surveys with brokers who are experienced and organized, and surveys with brokers who are not. While the lack of organization might not make or break the deal on the yacht it can cost extra time, which will in turn cost extra money. The organization of the broker is important.

Do you have any final thoughts to share with us on yacht surveys and surveyors in the yachting industry? We are in the business of helping people buy or sell yachts, but we want them to What is a captain’s role during the know what they’re buying. Not Quite What It Seemed The client had scheduled his yacht for what he thought would be a simple repair and light maintenance work in a Panama shipyard. Although he was outside of the United States, he knew it would be best to have the work completed before the yacht returned home. His Marsh PCS Client Advisor, JoAnne H., began working with the yacht captain to get underwriter approval to begin the work at the client’s preferred repair yard. As workers began to complete the repairs, they found much more extensive damage than was originally expected. JoAnne anticipated the loss would be covered and arranged for a claims adjustor to make a coverage determination. Based on the amount of damage to the vessel, they moved forward with a claim since the cost of repairs would outweigh the policy deductible.

All the Right Parts With the claim moving forward, Debbie P., Marsh PCS Claims Manager, spoke with the insurer and arranged for an adjustor to be dispatched to Panama. The insurer agreed to fly the adjustor from Florida to Panama to meet with the yacht captain and to be present for the inspection. The adjustor verified the specific damage and worked with the captain to coordinate the course of repair. Debbie began managing payments to suppliers and shipments of parts from Holland to Panama. However, one of the parts was not available; it had to be manufactured in Holland before it could be shipped to Panama to complete the repair.

The client’s yacht had to be moved from the dry dock to let the other yacht out. Major insurance coverage issues required investigation to tow the dead vessel from the safety of the dry dock and anchor it in the ocean for several days. Debbie and JoAnne coordinated with Marsh PCS Senior Vice President and Yacht Practice Leader John G. to present a plan to the insurer’s management team on how and where the yacht would be moved and the expected time frame. Together, the Marsh PCS team compiled a list of all measures that would be put in place to ensure the safety of the client’s yacht and the other yachts in range, which ultimately included 24-hour onboard monitoring of the client’s vessel.

Dry Dock Dilemma During the inspection process, the yacht was pulled into a dry dock behind another vessel. Originally, repairs on both boats were scheduled to be completed at the same time, allowing the yachts to launch seamlessly. However, the unforeseen delay to the client’s yacht repairs due to the need to manufacture one of the parts put his boat behind schedule. The yacht in front of his was ready to leave.

A Favorable Outcome Three days later, when the tide allowed, the client’s yacht returned to the dry dock. The manufactured part arrived from Holland and final repairs were made so the yacht could make its return trip home to the U.S.

This yard visit started out as a simple repair and maintenance issue, but grew into a complex, expensive and challenging claim. However, the settlement was successfully negotiated by the Marsh PCS team and it was paid in full. “The whole Marsh PCS team was just great,” the client said of his experience. “We were dealing in a foreign country and Marsh’s support was invaluable. I couldn’t speak more highly of the level of care.”

THE LOWDOWN ON THE HIGHLIFE From the impressive nightlife to the beautiful beaches to the French-inspired flair, St. Barths has je ne sais quoi in spades. One of the most beautiful places to enjoy it all is Bonito St. Barths (01). Perfectly perched above the renowned Gustavia Harbor, this delightful “beach house restaurant” cooks up Latin-French fusion and other global cuisines. The brainchild of Juan Carlos Perez Febres and Jonas and Alexandra Milan, this intimate hideaway is home to innovative gastronomy and stunning views. Daniel Boulud protégé Laurent Cantineaux takes the lead in the kitchen at Bonito St. Barths. Here he creates traditional Latin American dishes utilizing classic French techniques. From fresh ceviche — including a ceviche tasting, a fall truffle ceviche and even a vegetarian option — to delectable seafood dishes (05) — try the Spiny Lobster Risotto with yellow chili cream, edamame and asparagus in a light bisque consommé with extra virgin olive oil or the sautéed mahi-mahi with “salsa cruda,” plantain “tostones” and coconut jasmine rice — to heartier fare, like the milk-fed pork with crispy skin, oriental sauerkraut and shitake sweet and sour sauce, there is something on the menu for every palate. Be sure to save room for desserts (06) like the baked Alaska with black currant sorbet, mango-passion sorbet and rum, the mango-pineapple filo tart with white chocolate mousse and rum raisins or the Bonito shot with chilled tropical blood orange and warm coconut espuma.

04

The cocktail menu at Bonito is second to none on the island. Mixologist Jerome Hurtado de Mendoza has divided the menu into three categories — Bubble Troubles, which includes the Bubbling Bonito Champagne with fresh cucumber, basil leaves, lemon juice and a watermelon stick; Caribbean Cocktails — order the L’Exotiki with aged dark rum, white rum, mango and passion juice, vanilla syrup and Flamin’ cinnamon bitters (03); and Vodka, which offers five specialties for vodka lovers to enjoy. Mendoza will shake or stir up your spirit(s) to perfection. Jonas and Alexandra Milan designed the restaurant to evoke the atmosphere of a chic, intimate beach house (02). White-washed with blue hues, the cool, contemporary style immediately induces relaxation. Settle into the lounge-like living room space, which is home to the ceviche bar, open kitchen and cocktail bar, or enjoy the beautiful breezes of the terrace (04) of Bonito as you taste a unique meal, sip creative cocktails and watch the sparkling harbor, chock a block with yachts during the winter season. Thanks to its proximity to Gustavia Harbor, Bonito is easily accessible by foot or by tender. Bonito is open from 6 to 11:30 p.m. daily; reservations are available.

There is something about the Feadship name that inspires respect and admiration from all levels of the yachting industry, from crew to owners, from brokers to builders. Feadship is a special breed of yacht, and a Feadship owner is a very special breed of person. As a broker, my first opportunity to represent a Feadship for sale came to me this year in the form of a 183-foot (55.7m) Van Lent called ILLUSION. She was built in 1983 and is kept in the custody of a passionate owner who is totally committed to maintaining his yacht to the highest standards. When I visited ILLUSION in Barcelona, the benefits of her refit in 2010 were immediately obvious. The Bannenberg & Rowell interior in the main salon is simply sensational, striking the difficult balance between luxury and comfort to create a wonderfully inviting expanse that draws you in and conjures up dreams of idle evenings drinking cocktails with friends. Her deck space seems to be impossibly generous, offering sunbathing and dining areas on all decks; a large Jacuzzi tub and a clever sunbathing area forward of the bridge is elevated so that the foredeck hardware is out of sight. Water toy storage on board abounds, with two 20-foot (6.1m) tenders located conveniently on the boat deck, and a large transom lazarette — beautifully designed to accommodate more sizeable toys and diving equipment — opens up to create a wonderful swim platform. Remarkably, she fits six well-proportioned staterooms effortlessly in her voluminous interior and still reserves sensible space for the crew and technical areas. Modern yacht builders could learn much about intelligent distribution of space from this yacht. Shortly after my visit, and in the quest to keep ILLUSION in the manner to which Feadships are accustomed, she underwent another important refit that has further enhanced her desirability. This refit focused more on modernization and important technical improvements that will ensure that ILLUSION is enjoyed by many more people for many more years to come.

The entire yacht has been repainted so she displays a beautiful new white livery, the engines and generators have been completely rebuilt and set to zero hours so that a new owner can cruise with confidence, all the major systems were overhauled and upgrades were made to the AV and communication equipment. Interior details have been “re-pristined” or replaced, the tenders and toys have been updated with new models and important work has been carried out while the yacht was in the shipyard, ensuring that she meets class requirements.

My mandate, however, is to find a buyer for this remarkable vessel, whilst my colleagues enjoy keeping her diary full of charter bookings. Thankfully, the charter season tends to slow down in September, just in time for the Cannes and Monaco Yacht Shows, so we plan for her to be present in the area so that the hosts of yacht buyers and industry professionals that attend those events will get the opportunity to feast their eyes on the newly painted, updated and revitalized ILLUSION; fresh from boat boot-camp and ready for cruising.

Upon leaving the shipyard, I barely had time to organize a photoshoot and video of ILLUSION before she started cruising with charter guests on board. ILLUSION and other timelessly elegant classic Feadship yachts are irresistibly enticing to knowledgeable yacht users; the same attributes that have made the Feadship brand stand head and shoulders above the rest also carved them out an enviable niche in the charter industry.

A special breed of yacht attracts a special breed of owner, and ILLUSION is without a doubt the most desirable, well-priced example on the market today. She is available for charter with Carine Zanotti from Northrop & Johnson’s office in Antibes, and for sale with Kevin Merrigan and David Seal from the Fort Lauderdale and Antibes offices.

01 The Fontenay Hamburg Opening this October in Hamburg, The Fontenay is an urban resort with 131 rooms and suites located on the edge Lake Alster. Its modern design replicates three interlocking circles. There will be a seventh-floor rooftop bar and terrace, gourmet restaurant with private dining room with seating for up to 10, a swimming pool and a spa.

The hotel will be worthy of a visit just for its unique architecture. Except for the partitions dividing each guest room, there are no straight walls and no wall is parallel to another. All furniture and even hallway carpets had to be custom created. If you have business, there will be four function rooms offering 500 to 2,400 square feet of space with natural light.

02 Terrace Suite, Mandarin Oriental Milan Located next to La Scala, the Mandarin Oriental Milan just celebrated its two-year anniversary and remains a favorite for both business and leisure thanks to its proximity to Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga. One-hundred-and-four rooms and suites set in four 18th century buildings were completely renovated and combined. The hotel also features a two-Michelin-star restaurant, Seta, and a nearly 10,000-square-foot spa, plus an indoor pool. At 645 square feet, the Terrace Suite isn’t one of the largest suites at the Mandarin Oriental Milan, but its elongated

layout means that you have access to a wide terrace with comfortable seating from your living room and a bedroom and bathroom through large floor-to-ceiling doors. Of course, you may want to just enjoy the suite itself with its Italian marble bathroom, wood floors and oak paneling. There also is a large working desk, Nespresso coffee machine, separate bath and walk-in shower, underfloor heating and vanity unit. If you get tired of the terrace view, enjoy the 60-inch LED Samsung television in living room and TV in the bathroom.

03 Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana, Cuba German hotel brand Kempinski has now established a true five-star hotel in Havana with its restoration of a 100-year-old, six-story building in the city’s historic area. Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana has 246 rooms and suites, six restaurants and bars and a spa. Rooms and suites range from 400 to more than 1,650 square feet and the Presidential Suite features 20-foot ceilings, large Frenchdoor windows and a patio with city views. In the hotel, there is Evocación Tobacco Lounge with rums, cigars and spirits; for dining, several options offer seafood as well as locally inspired cuisine. There also is a rooftop infinity pool with views of the old city. The building was originally Havana’s first shopping mall. While it is being managed by the German company, the developer is an arm of Cuba’s military, so if you hold a U.S. passport, you will want to check with an expert before making direct payments to the hotel.

Just 25 luxury villas — each is different, designed with an eye to traditional Fijian style — are available and all come with private pools set among the palms of coconut plantations, white-sand beaches, turquoise lagoons and lush green mountains. Those who have been are unanimous that this is a “must visit” if you like islands, beaches and unique getaways with lots of activities and soft adventure. Eighty percent of consumables are selfsustainable, and the ownership prides itself on a philosophy which brings elements of the island into each guest experience. There is a 240-acre farm on the island. All produce is organic and grown on the island. All five restaurants and bars abide by a farm-to-table concept and offer a wide choice of international and local cuisines, complemented by an extensive wine cellar.

05 Four Seasons Punta Mita There are two new Presidential-level suites at Four Seasons Punta Mita on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Both feature Mexican-inspired décor, private infinity pools and multiple indoor and outdoor living spaces. They both have full kitchens and the hotel will arrange a chef, if you wish, who will cook as well as handle any grocery shopping. A key feature in the suites is the floor-to-ceiling windows. The Sol Suite has five bedrooms, each with a full marble bathroom, and is more than 7,000 square feet with clifftop ocean views. Three of the bedrooms, including the master, have outdoor showers. There are two living rooms, so you can create a suite within the suite between the second living room and one of the bedrooms. Both living rooms have their own separate powder rooms.

Laucala is best known among its VIP clientele for a multitude of sporting and cultural activities for guests of all ages. The island has one of the world’s three DeepFlight Super Falcon submarines. Laucala Water Sports Center offers diving (with multiple dive options), snorkeling, jet skiing, kite-surfing, kayaking (in glassbottom boats), fishing, sailing and more. The center additionally has its own fleet of 14 boats for guests. On land, enjoy the 18-hole championship course (it welcomes less than 150 tee-offs per year), organic spa, tennis, horseback riding, yoga, Pilates, hiking, biking and trekking to meet indigenous artists. There is so much to do; or, of course, nothing to do, if that’s your preference.

05

The four-bedroom Luna Suite is 5,000 square feet with two oceanfront and two gardenview bedrooms and panoramic ocean views, starting at $7,000 per night. Two bedrooms, including the master, feature outdoor showers. The main differences between the two suites: Sol is about 40 percent larger with one additional bedroom, a private office and a much larger swimming pool and terrace. Also, all bedrooms in Sol have direct access to the pool area. There also is an Apuane Spa, a Richard Sandoval restaurant and a variety of watersports, including surfing.

Tartan Time Whether it’s Black Watch, Tattersall, Windowpane Check or Madras, you can’t go wrong with a tartan pattern — it’s ideal for the man who adores being noticed. Salvatore Ferragamo’s take on the pattern comes in the form of an overcoat (01); it’s hot off Milan’s runway. This piece is bold and exudes savoir faire, but with a twist. Tonal underpinnings lay the groundwork for this statement maker, topping off a classic tee and pants with a blast of Italian chic.

05

The Italian family owned brand L.B.M.1911, created by Giovanni Bianchi, offers a madras sport coat for men (02) who aren’t afraid of a few looks. Exquisite tailoring and refined fabric make this jacket a showstopper; it pairs well with simple shirts and trousers. Accessories are big in the plaid game, too, with Gucci leading the way. There is nothing subtle about the brand’s antique tie-up boot (03), which is best suited for the mostfashion-forward gentlemen. These Christian Louboutin studded, plaid kicks (04) have a spirited vibe; they are the perfect embodiment of off-duty casual wear. Backpacks are the fashionable guy’s attaché. Canali offers its version in a subtle cross-wise pattern for the season (05). Stefano Ricci’s paper boy cap (06) is the cherry on top of any man’s day. Buy one and you’ll have it for life — that is if you don’t leave it in a taxi.

Timeless Chic It’s a smart move to invest in timeless chic; buy less, but buy quality, is the new mantra. And by that we mean, purchase clothing you’ll love to wear, but won’t wear you. Case in point is this menswear-style ensemble from Kiton (07), the Neapolitanbased tailor with the very un-Italian name. Started in 1956 by Ciro Paone, the brand crafts bespoke suiting using only its artisans’ hands to measure, cut and sew. Most recently, Kiton made its foray into the women’s arena with similar deftness. Kiton produces everything from handbags to a full array of women’s clothing, just like this cashmere coat and slim trouser look. These pieces will likely never go out of style and the swagger of fox fur gives the look its je ne sais quoi that turns a classic into a show-stopper. When on the hunt for autumn updates, accessories are key and Dior is always a good idea. The quilted handbag with hipster guitar shoulder strap is the latest version of the brand’s tried-and-true satchel (08). Dior’s red patent sling-backs (11) add just the right amount of sexy to a pantsuit or dress and the kicker is the unexpected leather beret (10). For fall, booties are a must; they add an edgy look when worn with dresses or skirts. Roger Vivier’s suede bootie (12) with signature buckle hits the right note. Fur continues to trend this fall, providing much needed warmth as well as a sumptuous look. This collarless “Linden” Swakara lamb coat (09) is made by Pologeorgis — renowned New York furrier — and Jill Haber’s pochette (13), a fun take on a mink bag, are fabulous autumn options.

OW N E R’ S S U I T E DOUBLE DOWN WORDS JANINE ST.DENIS

John Rosatti purchased the 214-foot (65.25m) Codecasa superyacht in early 2015, executed an extensive refit in 2016, named it DOUBLE DOWN. This chicly sophisticated motor yacht is outfitted to the nth degree, offering everything from innovative bi-fold sliding doors for the upper deck dining area and a striking glass elevator that accesses all interior decks, to any of the nine spacious and sumptuous staterooms that welcome

up to 18 guests. The fully equipped gym, private cinema, grand piano salon, and eight-person Jacuzzi on the bridge deck are just a few other enticing amenities found on board this resplendent yacht. “I chose DOUBLE DOWN because I loved the ninecabin configuration, since I have my three kids (plus their friends or significant others) and my friends on board,” said Mr. Rosatti. “I have no problem filling up the cabins. Also, the general interior theme was very close to my last two yachts, REMEMBER WHEN and NICE N EASY.”

Other yachts on this owner’s resume include motor yachts THUNDERBALL and TAKE IT EASY, as well yachts from his own brand, Millennium, of which he built, owned and used several. But back to DOUBLE DOWN, Mr. Rosatti continued, “I fell in love with the owner’s deck and the aft glass convertible dining area that can be opened or closed based on the weather, offering panoramic views that are unobstructed and endless. Lastly, I also love the large glass “OTIS” elevator, which is beautiful!”

05 03

Mr. Rosatti, who is the founder of BurgerFi, The Office Delray, Vic & Angelo’s, Plaza Auto Mall and Burgerfi International, LLC, is big into boating; he’s owned 15 large yachts during his tenure in yachting. “I have always loved being on the water with my kids,” said Mr. Rosatti. “I love fast smaller boats from 30 to 70 feet and larger yachts from 50 meters and up…” This fact is compounded by the amount of time they spend on DOUBLE DOWN. “I am on board all the time,” said Mr. Rosatti, who we caught up with mid-holiday in Europe during summer 2017. “This trip, I have been on since the Barcelona Charter Show in April and will only be off for a couple of charters. I average about six months aboard per year, if not more.”

What does a typical day on board the striking superyacht entail? “It consists of either having coffee in bed, looking out at the views from our forward-facing owner’s suite or sitting out at our private dinette,” Mr. Rosatti began. “Then we go back and meet our guests in the aft glass-dining area for breakfast and to plan our day. Usually, we start off by playing in the water, on the slide off the bridge deck and with various other water toys, like our SeaBobs, Sea-Doos, paddleboards, etc. Then we take the 42-foot MTI with Quad 300hp engines ashore and have lunch wherever we are. We’ll come back and play more, maybe take a nap and then have dinner prepared by our five-star chef or we’ll go out for local favorites.” Many of the Rosatti’s local favorites are

found in the Mediterranean. “I love cruising the Med, like Sardinia, Corsica, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Positano, but I also like the Caribbean in the winter, such as St. Barths. I also just became a member of the Monaco Yacht Club, so I love hanging out there when I’m in port.” But one of the most unique places the yacht has visited may be Bonifacio, Corsica. “Backing in stern-to was a tremendous feeling; a 65-meter anchored there is pretty exhilarating,” said Mr. Rosatti. While Mr. Rosatti has chartered out other yachts in the past, it’s not something he’s likely to do now, “As you can see, I always have to have my own,” he said. But his yacht is available for charter because “…it gives the crew a level to always achieve, so they are not always gauging it based off us. I believe in keeping DOUBLE DOWN in five-star condition.”

The yacht is in tip-top shape for anyone who’s keen to charter her, “She’s so quiet underway and a very solid ride,” said Mr. Rosatti. “The layout is perfect and exterior spaces accommodate all the guests for intimate conversation, sunning and spectating along the way. Also, my engine room is a work of art! Polished stainless steel and chrome everywhere.” It’s quite evident that yachting is the lifestyle for Mr. Rosatti. This avid, involved yacht owner may very well be happiest at sea and he beautifully summed it all up when he said, “It’s about having my privacy, if I choose, and piling my family and friends in and being on the water…I love the water!” And that’s a sentiment we can all agree with.

A CITY COMBINING EUROPEAN & LATIN AMERICAN STYLE WITH A ROMANTIC MIX OF GRIT & GLAMOUR, THE LOCALS SEDUCE, THE CULTURE EXCITES & THE CUISINE IS TO BE SAVORED

A true Latin metropolis, Buenos Aires is often referred to as the Paris of South America, thanks in part to its distinctive, yet inimitable style. Famed for its energy, the city’s social scene swaggers into the early hours, and the passionate locals, be they male or female, ooze a persona that is both unique and sensual. It is no surprise that this is the country that invented the iconic tango in the late 19th century. Tango is experiencing a revival in Buenos Aires, among locals and visitors alike. But it’s not just the exotic dance that attracts visitors. This city has it all — exquisite local cuisine, first-class shopping and some of the hottest hotels in the world.

Pillow talk The Argentine capital of Buenos Aries boomed in the early 20th century with the exportation of its superior beef to Europe, enabling wealthy ranch owners to build Belle Époque-style mansions across the city. The architecture that lines many of the wealthier barrios (neighborhoods) still reflects this style; several of the leading hotel brands have based their premises in and around the elegant and attractive buildings. One of the most desirable to stay in of the 48 barrios is the chic La Recoleta. Begin your discovery with the grand boulevards lined with designer shops and a thriving culinary scene. Here you will find big hotel names — the likes of Four Seasons and Park Hyatt — along with niche, but equally luxurious hotels, including the Alvear Palace Hotel and Hub Porteño. The Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires, which welcomes many celebrities when in town, recently resurfaced from a redesign and comprises a modern tower and a handsome Belle Époque mansion connected by landscaped gardens and two pools. The mansion suites are the best, offering views over the gardens and pools. Rejuvenate with a Porteño tango therapeutic massage, choreographed to the beat of tango music, at the Cielo Spa before dinner at the hotel’s elegant Elena restaurant or a cocktail at the adjacent bar, Pony Line. Of similar style, the Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt is divided into two buildings with suites located in a Beaux Arts mansion and the remaining rooms in a tower on the other side of spectacular terraced gardens. For those looking for more of a boutique hotel experience, Hub Porteño is located in a converted town house on a quiet side street surrounded by more Belle Époque and Beaux Arts buildings, including the historic Jockey Club and Palacio Duhau.

02

03

A stay in one of the 11 large suites includes authentic Argentine experiences that range from introductions to classic tango and polo to local gastronomic dining to architectural-themed tours. Simply relaxing in the hotel is a cultural experience on its own. The high-ceilinged rooms are filled with contemporary art and sculptures along with antiques from local auction houses and Argentine art from the owner’s personal collection. Alternatively, the newly gentrified fashion and design district Palermo Viejo has been transformed from a run-down neighborhood to become the city’s most chic destination. Cobblestone streets are lined with huge oak trees and low-rise buildings; the area has become a hotspot thanks to its upbeat bars, restaurants, and designer clothes shops. The Soho area is the more gentrified of the sections that make up the barrio, and is where you will find a number of boutique hotels. The 17-bedroom Home is modern and retro at the same time. It boasts a lively bar and a large garden with a pool. Book the Garden Suite for its private roof terrace. Alternatively, Nuss is a converted convent ideally located on just steps from the hippest bars and restaurants in town. The best thing about Nuss is that you can laze about the roof terrace, where loungers surround a plunge pool, while still feeling part of the action on the streets below; during the weekends the barrio is home to a number of live musicians, which create an electric atmosphere. The Clubhouse also is located in this popular neighborhood. A tiny boutique property with just three guest rooms, the renovated four-story townhouse comprises private salons and sitting rooms with original Warhols and other impressive art adorning the walls. Go for The Master suite with its own private terrace.

Eat, drink & dance A stay in Buenos Aires is the perfect opportunity to indulge in some serious feasting. Traditionally the dining scene has been all about dining on copious amounts of meat grilled over an open fire, and those looking to get their steak fix should head to Miranda. Meat remains the staple ingredient, but a new generation of gastronomes has introduced contemporary variations on traditional dishes with gourmet tasting menus being the current trend, especially in puertas cerradas (closeddoor restaurants and speakeasies), which are the height of fashion in the capital. Located in private homes across the city, they are very much open to friends of friends and those who introduce themselves when attempting to make a reservation. With the intimacy of just a dozen or so guests, they allow the chef to really experiment with local produce and to bring the guests into an open kitchen atmosphere where they can experience the real essence of local cuisine. Casa Felix is a fine example of a puerta cerrada. Chef Álvaro Zapata serves up a beguiling five-course tasting menu for up to 12 guests three or four nights a week at different locations (to make it even more exciting the address is only disclosed when booking). Other puerta cerradas to try include Aramburu — which has been listed as one of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants — and La Cocina Discreta in the Palermo Viejo barrio.

07

6 7

During the weekend, locals or Porteños (port dwellers) as they are known, take late night dining to the extreme. Mingle with stylish locals at Tegui on the outskirts of Palermo and dine on locally sourced ingredients transformed into an ambitious menu. For those looking to try the traditional approach to dining, Thymus is one of the most noteworthy restaurants for both local and visiting foodies. Located near to Palermo, the restaurant is scattered with sculptures that adorn the gallery above, and Chef Fernando Mayoral creates excellent dishes with local produce. Alternatively, those looking for the younger crowds should try Soul Café in Las Canitas, or Cluny in the trendy Palermo Soho barrio. Sirop in Recoleta is unrivalled for service and turns out some fabulous French dishes. No trip to Buenos Aires would be complete without sampling the city’s café scene. Drinking coffee while putting the world to right is of paramount importance to locals. The café society rivals that of Paris and Rome and cafés both old and new can be found on almost every street corner. The embodiment of café culture, Café Tortoni was opened in 1858 and is one of the most famous hangouts for artists, writers and musicians. Alternatively, try a classic breakfast of café con leche at the 130-year-old French-style Café Las Violetas.

Live music is one of the city’s main attractions, and contemporary jazz is stealing the spotlight thanks to young and talented musicians. Check out a live show at Thelonious Jazz Club. If you are keen to see or dance some tango, the city offers a vast range of options for both absolute beginners and experts. The authentic experience is called the milongas, and this is the way the porteños do the tango. A multitude of venues are spread all over the city, catering for all tastes and skill levels, each with its own style, custom and formality. La Catedral and the grand old Confiteria Ideal café are the best venues, and if you want to hear good music head to the supper club Torquato Tasso where local artists perform tango. For the ultimate, highly choreographed show, head to the grand theaters for a stunning tango performance, or simply discover street tango as you wander the various barrios. In Buenos Aires, nightlife is so pervasive that many porteños come out long after sundown and retire well after dawn has arrived. Bars and clubs can be found in most neighborhoods, but Palermo Soho is the place to go to feel the energetic vibe that the city emanates. For those looking for some cultural nightlife, Corrientes Avenue is referred to as the street that never sleeps and is full of theaters, cafés and even book shops that remain open until first light.

Do & discover The city buzzes with culture and simply wandering at leisure along the tree-lined avenues gives a real essence of the city. Some of the more bohemian barrios are known for their artists and street performers, while the aforementioned Recoleta barrio boasts French-style architecture and one of the most noteworthy cemeteries in the world — Cementerio de la Recoleta, where almost anyone famous hailing from the country is buried, including Eva Peron. Must-see landmarks include the Plaza de Mayo, home to the Casa Rosada (presidential palace) and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Alternatively, spend an afternoon browsing the latest exhibits at one of the many hip art galleries dotted throughout the barrios, or at one of the gallery museums, the most famous of which is MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) in Palermo, or for contemporary collections try the Fortabat Art Collection at Puerto Madero.

See & shop As a style-obsessed city, it is no surprise that Buenos Aires boasts a thriving retail scene. Many international labels, the likes of Hermès and Louis Vuitton, can be found at slightly lower prices befitting the Argentine economy. The prestigious Avenida Alvear is the place to head for upscale and luxury shops, while local designer boutiques are predominantly located along the cobblestone streets of Palermo Soho. Argentina is known for stylish leather goods and you will find many high-end shops selling everything from leather bags to belts, including home furnishings made from leather. For custom-made leather goods head to Villa Crespo, or browse at Rossi & Caruso and Humawaca. Outdoor markets are the best places to find small antiques and collectibles along with souvenirs. The biggest is the San Telmo Antiques Fair, held every Sunday in Plaza Dorrego in the boho San Telmo district. It is here that you also will find Gil Antigüedades where row upon row of chic vintage clothes adorn the rails. There are also several contemporary art galleries here displaying a variety of works of art. Come evening, the city bursts alive with performances. From live music by international artists to theater or opera, there are performances every night of the week for 52 weeks of the year. La Trastienda Club is the place for live music from international stars and local talent. 01 Two for One Why be satisfied with doing just one thing well when you can do two things even better? This was the theory behind the Vanqraft VQ16, the first tender-scooter crossover from builder Vanquish Yachts of The Netherlands. The Vanqraft VQ16, developed by Vanquish Yachts CEO Tom Steentjes and renowned Dutch designer Guido de Groot, combines the fun of a water toy with the practicality of a tender. While small tender-scooters are built for one person to run around the bay, the Vanqraft VQ16 takes things to the next level, offering a high-performance scooter that’s fun to drive and a first-class tender that can ferry five guests in comfort. The driver straddles the center seat, much like a Jet Ski, while other passengers can sit in the cozy bow seats. Those looking for more of a thrill can sit behind the driver, feeling every turn. The scooter is designed to perform like a dream with easy maneuverability. Powered by a 200hp Yamaha 1.8L engine with jet propulsion, she easily reaches top speeds of 40 knots. Want to go even faster? A Veloce version capable of racing up to 50 knots also is available. 02 Tee Time If hitting a golf ball from the top deck is like a driving range at sea, then FunAir’s new Yacht Golf set up is like having a golf course off the aft deck. The multi-green system allows the crew to set individual floating holes at varying distances, so golfers can aim for a range of holes and set the challenges to meet their skill sets. Yacht Golf comes in a set of three, allowing yachts take as many on board as the toy box can handle, easily making a nine- or 18-hole floating golf course out in the ocean. Tough netting on each green catches the balls when you make a hole in one. FunAir also has partnered with Albus Golf, so the balls that come with Yacht Golf are eco-friendly. Albus creates marine-friendly “Ecobioballs” — made popular by the likes of Richard Branson and his guests at Necker Island; these golf balls are actually fish food. They don’t degrade in the water right away, so when a hole-in-one is achieved the balls can be scooped up for later use. If you miss, you give the fish a tasty treat. Fun for golfers and sea life alike.

03 In Pursuit of Perfection Is there such thing as the perfect tender? One superyacht captain is betting he’s come up with the formula for just such thing. “The ‘perfect’ tender should encompass speed, performance, stability, fuel efficiency, comfort and seaworthiness,” says Captain Dean Maggio, the principal behind Ocean 1 yacht tenders. Captain Maggio oversaw the build of the 170-foot (51.81m) Royal Huisman schooner METEOR and has helmed the yacht since its launch in 2007. Ocean 1 aims to stand out from the pack of RIB tenders by combining the attributes of a hardy, open-water tournament fishing boat with the comforts expected by the superyacht set. Lightweight composite construction meets a smooth, stable ride. Standard features include a large carbon-fiber hard top and hydraulic steering, and there are plenty of options to make the craft even more luxurious. The Ocean 1 360 is designed to be light, strong and fuel efficient. The hull is designed for maximum lift, meaning there’s less drag and more efficiency — a fuel efficiency of 1.5mpg at 45mph, in fact. The tender takes off to a top speed of 59.5mph at full load, and can reach an even speedier 64mph at half load. The first hull of the 36-foot 360 model was delivered in May, and hull two just debuted in Bermuda at the America’s Cup this summer. 04 Flying High Foiling isn’t just for the America’s Cup pro sailors anymore. The 17-foot F101 was created to make hydro-foiling accessible to anyone, and these fast-flying sailing trimarans are the perfect addition to the superyacht garage. The F101 is inspired by the Moth class, but is designed to be sailed by the masses. Unlike Moths, it is extremely hard to capsize. Stable when foiling at low speeds, easy to handle and with a long hull to prevent nose diving, it’s a boat that anyone can sail. Even novices can now enjoy the thrills of flying above the water on hydro-foils. The foils are retractable so the boat can be launched in shallow water, too. Best of all, while the boat is designed to be singlehanded, there’s room for a guest so two people can enjoy the fun as the F101 flies across the water at speeds of 10 to 25 knots.

If you’re over the age of 40 you will probably remember the days when it was considered normal to get to work with the tool kit if your car wasn’t running quite right. And, back then, if it stopped altogether there was a good chance some relatively minor adjustments here and there would see you back on the road within a matter of minutes. General maintenance also was regarded as a “DIY” matter, as confirmed by the old Land Rover driver’s manual right here on my desk. Within its pages, you’ll find instructions on how to renew the filter on the brake system servo, how to check ignition timing, how to top-up the oil in the front and rear differentials and how to adjust the set-up of the steering.

But now many of us don’t even know the location of the hood release catch, let alone what really goes on beneath the large plastic shrouds that typically encase modern power units. The fact is, most of today’s cars should carry a label that reads “no user serviceable parts inside” because they have become so complex that only specially trained technicians have any idea how they really work. For those of us who used to love tinkering with old school nuts and bolts, it’s beginning to feel like the end of an era — especially with electricity taking over as the automotive fuel of the future. But, we’d better get used to it as cars are only going to get more high-tech, as these recent launches demonstrate....

01 Aston Martin Valkyrie Despite Aston Martin’s long-standing reputation for creating manly sports cars with large capacity V8 and V12 engines, it is embracing electric and hybrid power with gusto and recently announced that its all-electric RapidE four-door will be on sale by 2019. In terms of technology, however, no Aston has been as advanced as the remarkable AM-RB 001, now officially known as the Valkyrie. It was developed by the marque in conjunction with Adrian Newey, the celebrated F1 designer and chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing. Aston also has partnered with leading firms in their fields, such as engine tuner Cosworth, gearbox specialist Ricardo and EV experts Rimac to give the Valkyrie a 6.5-liter V12, which, in conjunction with a Rimac-built hybrid system, gives the car 1,130 horsepower. In keeping with its high-tech nature, the interior of the car doesn’t feature a conventional instrument cluster, but a series of screens that keep the driver informed of everything from road speed to fuel and power consumption, while a further pair of screens is linked to exterior cameras, which replace conventional rear view mirrors. Not a single piece of steel has been used in the construction of the car, which, instead, features an all-carbon monocoque running on magnesium race wheels. Aston Martin also makes use of modern technology to tailor-make each car to suit its owner’s dimensions — each buyer is 3D-scanned to ensure the cockpit and driver’s seat configuration is a perfect fit. Just 150 Valkyries will be built, and they will cost a cool $3.2 million apiece. 02 Rimac Concept One A decade ago, no one had heard of Bosnian Croat Mate Rimac or his home garage project to build a high-performance electric car based on his broken BMW. Now, however, the Rimac marque is recognized worldwide as the maker of the world’s fastest production EV (Electric Hypercar); partly because of television star Richard Hammond being behind the wheel of a Rimac Concept One when it crashed spectacularly on a Swiss hill-climb course in June. Accidents aside, the Rimac remains one of the most impressive electric vehicles produced to date and bristles with cutting-edge technology. Its “All Wheel Torque Vectoring” not only adjusts the power being delivered to each wheel according to the road conditions, but also enables the driver to select oversteer, understeer or a “neutral” feel. Low-mounted batteries reduce the center of gravity and, despite offering a range of up to 600 kilometers, take as few as 30 minutes to recharge. Four independent electric motors produce the equivalent of 1,088 horsepower, which enables the Rimac to sprint from standstill to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and continue to a governed top speed of almost 190 mph. A cutting-edge infotainment system, meanwhile, enables the driver to monitor all the car’s systems through a jet-fighter-style head-up display, while a complex Power Distribution Unit controls the car’s drive train and will instantly disconnect individual systems in the event of a potential safety issue.

04 Lynk & Co 01 The Lynk & Co 01 isn’t just a new car, it’s an entirely new concept in motoring. Built by a subsidiary of Asian automotive giant Geely and backed by Volvo, the Swedishdesigned, Chinese-built mid-sized SUV is claimed to be the most connected car yet. Set to feature both traditional internal combustion engines as well as hybrid power, it is based on Volvo’s forthcoming XC40 model and has been built specifically for the “connected generation.” That means it will be permanently “online” through its own Internet link and will have its own “cloud” data storage system. Its interior has been developed specifically to appeal to anyone who regularly uses a portable device such as a tablet or smart phone. Indeed, smart phones will be integral to the existence of the Lynk & Co 01 because the car will include a free-to-use “share app” feature that enables owners to use their phones to “share” the vehicle with other people. And, rather than being offered in various trim levels in the traditional way, the manufacturer will offer different, fixed-price equipment options based on fashion and technology trends, in addition to an API (application programming interface) that will enable outside developers to input design ideas of their own. It is likely that the cars will be sold direct from the manufacturer via the Internet with the “01” being followed by “02,” “03” and “04” models to reflect the firm’s aim to simplify the act of buying a car. There also may be a subscription system, meaning infrequent drivers only pay for the car when they need it. It seems inevitable, too, that one day your new Link & Co vehicle won’t just be delivered to your door, but will deliver itself.

03 BMW M760 Li xDrive BMW’s latest flagship limousine eschews full electric or hybrid power in favor of a traditional, large-capacity gasoline engine; but that doesn’t mean it’s not a decidedly high-tech automobile. The 6.6-liter V12 uses the marque’s latest TwinPower Turbo technology, which enables it to produce 610 horsepower while also returning a combined fuel consumption figure of more than 22 mpg — impressive for a large car with a top speed (in unlimited form) of 189 mph that can also sprint to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The “xDrive” in the name refers to the 760’s intelligent four-wheel-drive system that monitors grip levels and delivers just the right amount of power to each wheel accordingly while retaining a rear-wheel bias in true BMW tradition. As with many modern vehicles, it’s on the inside where the tech gets really impressive. Safety features include automatic assistance for steering and lane control, a system that detects — and attempts to avoid — potential impact from the side and rear and a semi-automated ‘traffic jam assist’ feature that all but takes complete control in slow-moving lines. There’s also a Formula One-style “launch control” system for ultra-quick getaways, while an in-built tablet computer takes the standard infotainment display to a whole new level. It’s even possible to carry out tasks such as adjusting the volume of the Hi-Fi and accepting or declining phone calls with a mere wave of the hand, while a special phone holder enables wireless, inductive charging of your hand set – an automotive first. Even the 760 Li’s key fob is special; it, too, features a touchscreen through which it’s possible to check the fuel level and set the interior temperature well in advance of actually getting inside the car.

05 Renault 2027 Vision It’s well known that automotive technology developed for racing almost invariably trickles down to the road-car market, so Renault’s 2027 Vision — a concept that aims to predict what Formula One cars might be like in 10 years’ time — might contain features that will become familiar to us all. The hybrid petrol/electric powertrain would produce an eye-watering 1,341 bhp while the entire car will weigh just 600 kilos, making for a power-toweight ratio of 2,235 bhp per ton, almost double that of a current F1 car. The 2027 Vision could be driven in full-power hybrid mode on the track, but in all-electric mode in the pits or when being led by a safety car — when an autonomous driving mode would ensure it retains its correct place in the pack. The connected technology would not only enable drivers to keep track of one another but also would allow fans to increase the amount of power available to the most popular competitors. The familiar, open-cockpit design of today’s F1 cars also is replaced with an aircraft-style polycarbonate canopy while the lightweight bodywork could be created from recycled materials using 3D printing.

03 Young orangutans at Camp Leakey 04 The indigenous Komodo dragon 05 The ornate, colorful head of the giant, flightless Cassowary bird

You may think the title of this piece is a little over the top, but where else can you get face time with Komodo dragons, exotic birds of paradise, wild elephants and orangutans? And, that’s without mentioning the views of erupting volcanoes or the opportunity to swim next to whale sharks (which don’t mind — and seem to like — being scratched). Although many yacht owners are content to shop and club hop within the domesticated confines of the Mediterranean and Caribbean seas, another ‘new’ world is available for the adventurous. Transparent waters, exotic wildlife and unique island cultures, all basically untouched by outside influences, are still found in Indonesia. Within this nation of some 14,000 islands, stretching wider than the continental United States, there are about 50 locally registered vessels. Except for boats participating in the annual Darwin Ambon Yacht Race, only another 50 foreign, privately owned yachts venture into Indonesia every year. Since Indonesia’s independence from the Dutch in 1947, it’s had a daunting reputation for yachtsmen due to labyrinthine bureaucracy, differing rules island to island, security issues and unreliable bunkering. In recent years, however, these impediments began dissolving and last year the Indonesian government did much to streamline the process of obtaining permits. It no longer requires a massive bond. Quality shore support providers, such as The Lighthouse Consultancy or Indonusa Marine, can assist with paperwork and port arrangements. Fuel and food are now available in even the more remote local ports. Fish and tropical produce are mouthwateringly fresh. Despite an undeserved reputation for piracy, there have been no security issues in the region for more than a decade. The more distant the island, the happier its genuine, friendly people are to see you.

Historians tell that long before Magellan’s fleet circumnavigated the world, it was an Omani captain’s adventures in Indonesian waters that gave rise to the tales of Sinbad. An “old salt” is still referred to as a “sailor of the Seven Seas.” While there are many different cultures that used this term throughout the centuries, one such use derives from the seas surrounding the Spice Islands of eastern Indonesia. In the early days of exploration, these were the most sought-after seas in the world for the spice trade, which was a powerful force in the global economy.

Eastern Indonesia, from Bali to New Guinea, is part of the Coral Triangle; the world’s “womb of marine species’ generation and diversity.” It is barely one percent of the planet’s surface area, but it contains some 70 percent of all known coral species and nearly 40 percent of all saltwater fish species. Sail these waters with ichthyologists and they are likely to find you a new species.

Another interesting tidbit about the area is that the Wallace Line, a vertical zoographical divider, runs between Borneo and Sulawesi and between Bali and Lombok. To the west Christopher Columbus was searching for a shorter route to of that line you will find the great apes, otherwise known as the Banda Islands, the sole source of nutmeg —considered the “red men of the forest,” elephants, rhinos and Sumatran tigers — all characteristic fauna of mainland Southeast Asia. to be the gold of the spice trade — when he inadvertently bumped into America. Dr. Blair is much in demand as a lecturer on the peoples and creatures of Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.

During an Indonesian adventure, you can dive or snorkel the warm waters, thanks to hydrothermal volcanic vents off Northern Sulawesi, where the Coelacanth — a 360-million-year-old ‘dinosaur fish’— was recently rediscovered. Just off south Sulawesi you’ll come across the amazing shape-shifting “mimic octopus,” which was found and described only a decade ago. You can sail among great whales such as the blue, sperm and the inquisitive minke. On dark moons, cruise through bioluminescent seas of startling brightness. And if you’re daring, you can swim with whale sharks (which are neither shark nor whale, but simply 50-foot fish) in Cenderawasih Bay where they have bonded with the local fishermen, for whom they are totemic beasts. So, it seems the seas off Indonesia’s beautiful islands truly are brining with strange beasts. These islands have so much to offer and there are very few means by which to explore them as comprehensively as on board a luxury yacht.

C U LT U R E S P Y STUDIO DRIFT WORDS DANIEL SCHEFFLER

There is a moment where emotive design becomes overwhelming…in the best possible way. And that is the means by which Amsterdam-based design duo Studio Drift fabricates and engineers its site-specific installations and interactive sculptures and objects, plus films. Dutch artist Lonneke Gordijn and Swindon-born UK artist Ralph Nauta instituted Studio Drift one year after they graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Today, work by the studio has been acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

They’ve also shown at all the art fairs and art cognoscenti outposts — Design Miami Basel and La Biennale di Venezia dutifully included. Then there are the multitude of awards; “The Moët Hennessy — Pavilion of Art and Design London Prize” in 2010 for the “Fragile Future Concrete Chandelier” and “The best piece of Arte Laguna” for “Flylight” during the Arsenale 2014 in Venice, just to name a few. In essence, the studio focuses on space, light and the intricate relationships that exist between nature, technology and humankind. “I think they tap into an anxiety we have about technology and embed ‘human’ or ‘living’ qualities into designs and thinking about every day objects,” says Storm Janse van Rensburg, Head Curator at Savannah College of Art and Design.

“For example, tiny things are repeated endlessly or are enlarged so the relationship to our bodies as viewers becomes emphasized.” And so the creation of a breathing, living flower chandelier, for instance, is just another day in the life of Studio Drift.

The studio doesn’t just furnish and play in isolation, however; it’s 21st century-made and therefore loves to collaborate. In fact, the studio’s research filters through to scientists, university departments and research facilities, computer programmers and even engineers. Imagine all the research compiled in a piece like “Flylight” — a site-specific light installation that directly interacts with its surroundings. The light mimics the unpredictable behavior of a flock of birds in flight, symbolizing the conflict between humans, the safety of a group and the freedom of the individual.

Along the same thesis is “Ghost Collection,” where the duo questioned that which runs under the surface of objects and the way that people have inner complexities. The Studio created ghost chairs with very clean-cut, graphic silhouettes, but under a certain light an ethereal shape is almost magically revealed. According to the artist, “the contrast between the minimalist outside and the complex inside of the chairs is striking, and reminds the viewer that what you see is not always what you get; just like humans, these objects hide an unexpected essence under their skin.”

The idea of nature and man runs throughout the studio’s work. With “Fragile Future III” the artists fuse nature and technology to concoct a fairylike multidisciplinary light sculpture consisting of 3D bronze electrical circuits connected to light-emitting dandelions. The piece incorporates real dandelion seeds and every spring Gordijn and Nauta, with their team, harvest dandelions as they collect seeds for other private commissions. This, in turn, allows for a “Fragile Future” unit to fluctuate in size, sometimes spanning walls, other times just peeking through an entryway.

This mysterious beauty, and its simplicity, is what gives Studio Drift its real, future-focused aura. Instead of just creating art, for art or vanity’s sake, it’s tackling issues, ideas, philosophies and even harder-to-stomach thoughts with an ease and clarity that not only feels generous, but also is incredibly relevant in this highly uncertain world. The Studio is ultimately intrigued, as are we all as humans, by the continuous attempts of our very nature to deal with its limitations, so miraculously opposed to nature as these ventures might be.

The artists see this specific creation as a “critical yet utopian vision on the future of our planet, where two seemingly opposite evolutions have made a pact to survive.” The mix of high-tech married with simple poetic imagery is exactly the interaction and intersection where Studio Drift likes to hover. Leaving the viewer to consider his or her own connection of bare humanity to nature and to technology is the whole idea; a dandelion blowing through our minds, if you will.

Earlier this year, Studio Drift showed during The Armory Show in New York at Pace Gallery’s booth. For more on the artist behind Studio Drift, and their work, visit them at www.studiodrift.com.

SETTING UP A FAMILY OFFICE WORDS JAN VAN BUEREN & THOMAS MING

W E A L T H

There are three main situations in which families consider setting up or using a family office for the first time. The first of these reasons being that the family business is flush with liquidity; the second that the family business is being sold; and the third that one of the first two situations arise in combination with a growing number of family members who are interested in engaging with the family wealth in some way. We sat down with Jan van Bueren and Thomas Ming of FOSS Family Office Services Switzerland in the FOSS office in the heart of Zurich to discuss the challenges for families seeking family office services. Q Why is the first step toward using a family office often such a challenge? Jan van Bueren (JVB) There’s not just one, but several challenges that a family faces when considering setting up or using a family office for the first time. Managing free investable wealth is a completely different ballgame compared to managing a family business. It’s important that the family define the type of services they need, establish which goals they are seeking to fulfill by using a family office and find out whether the right solution is a singlefamily office (SFO) or a multi-family office (MFO). A lot of different issues come into play in this type of scenario. Thomas Ming (TM) A lot of wealthy families also have latent needs. They’re not aware of all the services a family office can offer or the requirements that should be covered by the family office. At the start of the process, it’s often unclear to them which role “their” family office should fulfill. Q What are the main risks to avoid when dealing with a multi-family office? How regulated are they? TM Especially where investment management is involved, which is usually the case, families should be aware that there are two main types of MFOs: MFOs that manage the assets themselves (this is the majority), and MFOs that only select, control and monitor external parties to manage a family’s assets. These two types are fundamentally different. MFOs are less regulated than private banks and families need to understand that it is possible that they might, at some point, not be satisfied with the investment performance of their chosen MFO.

N A V I G A T O R M A N A G E M E N T

Q How wealthy does a family need to be to consider setting up a family office? JvB As there are so many kinds of family offices, it’s impossible to answer this question. It would be better to carefully consider the services you really need and how much you’re willing to spend on those services. You can find MFOs that are prepared to take clients with a global wealth of €20 million, which I personally believe to be quite low. Most families using an SFO have at least $200 million in assets. Q Why did Union Bancaire Privée (UBP) launch a family office “advisory and selection” service? TM Through conversations with numerous families, we learned that almost every family considering an SFO solution struggles with finding experts to support them with the first steps in that direction. The families who try to hire an MFO find the market exceedingly opaque. Most MFOs are defined by their discretion, so it’s not an easy task for a family to find and select the proper provider. Contrary to the insurance market, where it’s common practice to use an insurance broker for larger contracts, independent guidance in the MFO sphere didn’t exist. As there was clear demand and no conflict of interest (UBP itself doesn’t offer family office services to its clients), we decided to launch this sort of advisory/intermediary service ourselves. Q In recent years what type of family office trends are you seeing? TM As are most players in the industry, we’re seeing ever-increasing interest from affluent families in SFOs. On top of this, MFOs are multiplying. Every week new service providers are appearing all around the world, although we do feel that South and Central America are lagging a bit behind. Q Do you expect this trend to continue? JvB Yes, definitely. Our conviction that this trend would continue was one of the main reasons for launching our family office advisory service in 2014. An increasing number of international families are considering setting up some type of SFO; Switzerland alone already has more than 450 MFOs, with new providers constantly entering the market.

THE EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE OFFERED BY SWISS WEALTH MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS IS AMONG THE HIGHEST, IF NOT THE HIGHEST, IN THE WORLD

Q You have started out with a focus on the Swiss market. Can you tell us a bit more about the specificity of MFOs in Switzerland and why you have initially launched the service in this market? JvB There are several reasons why we started with a focus on the Swiss market. Numerous SFOs are in Switzerland, because it is considered a safehaven, and because, after the United States, Switzerland is home to the highest number of MFOs. What sets Swiss MFOs apart from MFOs in most other jurisdictions is the fact that a huge number of Swiss providers focus on international clients rather than just domestic ones. The experience and expertise offered by Swiss wealth management professionals is among the highest, if not the highest, in the world. Q Do you have plans to extend your reach? TM Since completing the start-up phase of our service, we have now commenced advising families on establishing SFOs. Family offices also have been a growing trend in Asia for several years. Although SFOs have so far been in focus, more and more MFOs are being established in that region.

Most of those are found in Singapore and Hong Kong and are focusing primarily on investment services. To assist families from Asia, we are increasingly dedicating time to that area of the world. BREAKING GROUND TICK HALL WORDS E.J. WEBBER

If walls could talk, oh what stories they would tell. This striking oceanfront home in Montauk, New York, could regale its guests and onlookers, for sure. Listed on the open market for the first time in 135 years, this home was built from 1882 to 1883 for Alexander E. Orr and his family. In 1924, Orr’s friend Harrison Tweed purchased the estate. In jest, he dubbed it “Tick Hall” due to the surfeit of tiny inhabitants on the property at the time. Despite sweeping views of the Atlantic and the impressive level of privacy, the “Tick Hall” name stuck, and still gets a chuckle from those in the know about the namesake.

In 1967, famed ABC talk show host Dick Cavett came across the house. Second owner Tweed was now 91 years of age. Cavett rented the property from Tweed, subsequently purchasing it. Cavett spent 50 years enjoying the estate, but he is now looking for its next owner. And so, this one-of-a-kind, mostextraordinarily spectacular estate has become available. “That was sited by Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed New York City’s Central Park, and an estate that is one of Montauk’s historic ‘Seven Sisters;’ the shingle-style, summer colony Victorian cottage homes designed by Stanford White,” says Cavett. “We didn’t know then that nothing could change as far as you can see, and would protect our privacy forever. Today, all construction details of Tick Hall are just as it was conceptualized in the 1880s, but with all the modern conveniences of 21st century living.”

The home is listed with Tim Davis, real estate agent for Corcoran Group Real Estate, and his co-agent Karen Kelly. “The setting for this historic home of plus-or-minus-6,000 square feet on a 20-acre parcel with more than 900 feet of ocean frontage in the exquisite Montauk Moorlands is ultra-private,” they say. “It is truly one of the most extraordinary homes in the world and is bordered to the east by over 190 acres of oceanfront parkland with an additional 2,200 feet of coastline. Sitting on top of the cliffs provides the home with 360-degree views with the most private sandy beach on the East End.”

01 The sprawling oceanfront property on which Tick Hall sits is situated in the beautiful Montauk, New York 02 Despite a fire in 1997, the main house on the estate was fully replicated to its former glory

Conversant Montauk residents refer to the area as “Cavett Cove” since the very cloistered paths amble to the beachside harbor. And here, beauty abounds. “There just isn’t a bad day in Montauk in a house like this,” says Cavett. Until there was. A 1997 fire took down the house, leaving nothing but its chimney standing tall. Determined to return their estate to its former glory, Cavett and his late wife Carrie Nye used photographs, forensic clues found in the ashes and their memories to rebuild the house. Credit can mainly be given to Carrie Nye, forensic architect James Hadley and 30-plus-year caretaker, Gregory Donohue, who tirelessly worked to create a genuine replication of the construction. “Painting artist John Pomianowski reproduced wood stains and paint finishes for quirky walls, floors, and ceilings made of aged southern pine and American black cherry resourced from old timbers,” says Cavett. “We even used a photo of our then two Shih Tzu dogs with their paws on an upstairs windowsill to determine the sill height.” The recreation measures in at 6,000 square feet with three floors of spaciousness and abundant light, as well as a wraparound porch that offers stunning views at every turn. The home’s interior features a large formal dining room, living room with fireplace, library, working bell tower and an expansive country kitchen that opens onto a porch. There are seven bedrooms— the sophisticated master suite even has a sleeping porch — and five bathrooms in the home, offering plenty of guest accommodations. Further facets of the estate include a swimming pool, a half-acre, naturally occurring freshwater pond with a pond house, various trails and a beautiful footpath leading to the cove and private beach. Additionally, the half-acre garden is picture-perfect with charmingly landscaped trees, ferns, vines and flowers. It plays host to a 19th century gazebo. Tick Hall is an elegant estate situated in the lovely hamlet of East Hampton in New York. The delightful, welcoming home is full of history and memories. It also is exceptionally private, allowing you to enjoy its outdoor enchantments from the ocean to the gardens and beyond.

Tick Hall is offered at $62,000,000 For more information or to schedule a private showing, please contact; Tim Davis of Corcoran Group Real Estate at 631.702.9211 516.356.5736 tgdavis@corcoran.com Karen Kelley of Corcoran Group Real Estate at 917.952.7732 kkelley@corcoran.com

It may be a long way to travel (unless, of course, you are based in the Pacific Ocean), but once you get there, Australia promises every mile of your journey was worth it. So vast is the landmass that it embraces every type of environment, from lush rainforests and snow-capped mountains to golden beaches and parched deserts, and it is abundant in natural wonders. To top it all off, its waters are dotted with idyllic islands and are home to the spectacular Greet Barrier Reef. A luxury yacht charter ensures you encounter the best of all the country has to offer, starting with the lively metropolis of Sydney. Located at the heart of one of the largest and most beautiful natural harbors in the world, the cosmopolitan city is breezy and laid back with dazzling beaches and chic restaurants. Spend a few days ashore and discover the architectural landmarks, exciting cuisine, dynamic art scene and irresistible vibe of Australia’s oldest, most populous city. Culture @ Sydney is a city that celebrates culture and its talent for honoring the old and putting a twist on the new. Its cultural scene is brimming with life, innovation and inspiration. The city’s best museum is Sydney itself, especially the areas associated with European settlers. Board the monorail for a tour of Darling Harbour or cruise into Circular Quay and step ashore to discover The Rocks located just behind the waterfront. The area’s history dates to convict days and there are several ghostly tours replete with tales of hangings, suicides and hauntings on offer. It’s not all grim, however, as far removed from its colorful past, the old lanes and courtyards are now packed with cafes, galleries and restaurants. Avoid the crowds and take in magnificent views of the Sydney Opera House from the decks of a superyacht. Alternatively, you could embrace your cultural mood and step inside for music, opera, theater or ballet — the city’s iconic building is home of Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. (The venue is currently undergoing a massive renovation to improve the acoustics.) 02 Australia’s most famous silhouette, the Sydney Opera House, designed by Jørn Utzon in 1957

Connecting the city center with the Northern Shores, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the best place to view the surrounding city, the harbor and your yacht anchored below. Those brave enough can climb to the summit for the most spectacular views, but should there be children in the charter party, the Pylon Lookout, which is just 200 steps, also boasts impressive views over the city. Sydney is the preeminent place for contemporary art in Australia, in part because the city has several multistory arts spaces. The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is the place to head for international collections and recent works by local artists. Alternatively, the White Rabbit Gallery focuses exclusively on contemporary Chinese art and has displayed some famous pieces over its four-floor gallery. Australia’s great colonial artists and later impressionists have long been trying to capture the remarkable light, fauna and expansive space that embodies the country and much of their art is in a permanent collection at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

For Australian designers, visit The Intersection in Paddington. Here you will find local designer labels that have put Australia on the global map of fashion, including Zimmermann, Sass and Bide, Camilla, Alice McCall and Bassike. For jewelry boutiques and all manner of pretty and luxurious items, try the elegant Queen Victoria Building and Strand Arcade. And, those looking to buy art and souvenirs should head to The Rocks for the weekend markets. Explore @ The Royal Botanic Garden on the edge of the harbor is a welcome retreat from the bustling city. Originally the site of the colony’s first farm, the gardens date back to 1817. Today the landscape, spread across 34 hectares, varies between open parkland and paths winding through all manner of trees and beautiful flower-filled gardens.

Fans of seafood should head to Chef Neil Perry’s Rockpool Bar & Grill, a steakhouse with sensational fresh seafood, which showcases some of Australia’s finest and sustainable produce. If you have a penchant for oysters, the Morrison Bar & Oyster Room has an entire library of mollusks. Book a table on the open terrace for the best spot and make sure you have a side of Chef Sean Connolly’s duck-fat chips. Potts Point on the harbor-side is fast becoming the foodie epicenter of the city and it is here you will find the sensational modern Asian restaurant Billy Kwong where chef Kylie Kwong turns out contemporary Chinese dishes created around indigenous Australian ingredients. Those brave enough should try the caramelized wallaby tail with black bean and chili. Fratelli Paradiso is the place to head for casual Italian, and if you want to take some cured meats and fresh pastas back on board, then Café Sopra at the fashionable food warehouse Fratelli Fresh in Potts Point is the best deli in the city. Also in Potts Point, Yellow is one of the best bistros for brunch. Arrive early to beat the crowds and try the grilled licorice bread. Drink @ Whether you like vine or grain, cocktail or draft, Sydney has a great variety of stylish bars, hip mixologists and heritage brewers. The cocktails at Firedoor (also a fine restaurant) are legendary. Try the signature Magnolia Acuminata, or opt for the wine list curated by their very own Master of Wine. Alternatively, in Potts Point the wine bar Monopole has knowledgeable staff who can guide you through the 500-bottle-strong wine list.

For spectacular views with your vermouth martini, Orbit Lounge Bar is a scene of 1970s glamour in one of Sydney’s finest skyscrapers. Workout, then relax @ Sydney and the surrounding suburbs are great for outdoor activities such as yoga, hiking and running. Greet the morning in sun salutation-style with Yoga by the Sea on the beaches at Bronte, Bondi or Tamarama. Hikers and runners should try the coastal walkway from Bondi to Bronte or the cliff tops above Vaucluse to Watsons Bay. Both provide some of the most stunning views in the city. For those looking to do as the locals, head to Bondi Baths for a sauna, spot of yoga or to swim in the famous outdoor pool. The best place for spa action in the city tends to be in the major hotels, which usually have the most impressive facilities. Try Chi, The Spa at the Shangri La Hotel or the Endota Spa at the Four Seasons. Be seen @ For Australian turf racing at its best, head to the Royal Randwick, which plays host to the world’s richest weightfor-age turf race over 200 meter, the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes — a highlight on the social calendar each April for over 150 years.

Anchor @ Sydney Harbour may be home to the iconic Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, but these are just the tip of the iceberg of what 200 miles of shoreline have to offer. Twenty-one square miles of water run from cityscapes to inlets on the Hawkesbury River, providing a rich and varied cruising ground with tiny islands, safe diving spots and sandy beaches. Offering berths for superyachts of up to 75-meters, the Sydney Superyacht Marina in Rozelle Bay is minutes from the hub of the city. Built to accommodate visiting yachts to Sydney for the 2000 Olympic Games and having just been through a huge redevelopment, the marina is ideally located for both domestic and international airports and the city center. The marina also can arrange for berthing at Campbell’s Cove right next to The Rocks with uninterrupted views of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Alternatively, the small bay of Farm Cove lies opposite the Opera House and is surrounded by the Botanical Garden. Anchor here and take the tender ashore to Circular Quay. Away from the city, but with the best vantage point on the harbor, Athol Bay is ideal for a night at anchor. After a few days anchored or berthed in the great city of Sydney, the harbor offers protected cruising and plenty to entertain even the most discerning charter guests before, of course, heading north to explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and beyond.

Thus, CRYSTAL ESPRIT opens a world of possibilities for your next special occasion. An experience aboard this stunning vessel would, of course, be the ultimate incentive for any corporate excursion. On a more personal note, the yacht affords the ability for multi-generational families (the kind that overflow homes during the aforementioned holidays) to enjoy uninterrupted quality time while exploring the world together. The open decks of CRYSTAL ESPRIT provide a picturesque backdrop to wedding vows, allowing couples to expand their guest lists beyond the bridal party.
