Northrop & Johnson - Established in 1949

OUR H E R I TA G E An international yachting company and one of the largest worldwide, Northrop & Johnson is the quintessential full-service yacht brokerage. Since 1949, we have offered discerning clientele an innovative, sophisticated approach to all aspects of the yachting lifestyle. Shortly after World War II, Jim Northrop and George Johnson formed a partnership to provide a quality yacht brokerage service to their close circle of yachting companions on Long Island Sound. The first Northrop & Johnson office opened in 1949 at 366 Madison Avenue in lower Manhattan and served as the foundation for the fledgling brokerage house. Here began Northrop & Johnson’s trueblue “Yankee” heritage, which is reflected in the company’s reputation for honesty and integrity. The word about the “Gentlemen Brokers” of Northrop & Johnson spread throughout the tight-knit yachting community of New York and created the platform on which the company’s sterling reputation was built. By the early 1960s, Northrop & Johnson had expanded with branch offices in Stamford, Connecticut; Miami, Florida; and Marblehead, Massachusetts. In 1971, Northrop & Johnson expanded into Europe with an office based in Cannes, France. By the late 1970s, additional offices were added in Newport, Rhode Island; Puerto Buenos, Spain; and St. Petersburg, Florida.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Northrop & Johnson became the premier large yacht brokerage in the United States. Many of the industry’s most influential names began their careers with Northrop & Johnson, and today we are recognized at every major yachting venue throughout the world. Our strategic alliances and extensive network provide abundant support and representation for the vessels in our fleet in every major yachting center. Today, with more than seven decades of longevity and more than 100 passionate professionals based in strategic yachting hubs around the globe, Northrop & Johnson continues to provide customized services that exceed each client’s needs. We are committed to expanding our network of offices, employing the best professionals in the industry and investing in the development of proprietary software solutions, to provide our clients with an unrivaled service of the highest industry standard. Northrop & Johnson continues to be an industry icon and we are proud to continue this heritage. Our successful reputation is built on decades of commitment to clients and commerce within the industry. From yacht sales and purchase to new construction, charter, management, insurance and marketing of the world’s most exclusive luxury vessels, Northrop & Johnson offers a total-service approach.

Motor & Sailing Yachts for Charter Yacht Directory from page 114

ABOUT CHARTER What makes a superyacht charter so special? There is no one answer to this, as chartering a luxury yacht is the ultimate vacation due to a combination of factors. From the yacht itself to the choice of cruising ground, the first-class service and the experiences to be had both on board and ashore, all the elements combined make for an unforgettable holiday experience. The great appeal is that your itinerary is bespoke to you and incorporates all the elements that are important to you and your guests. Ask any charterer what it is that attracts them to this style of holiday and they will tell you that it is all about the service, the ultimate privacy, gastronomic delights, island-hopping itineraries and watersports galore. And that would only be the start…from deciding where you want to go to what you want to see, what foods you want to savor, what activities you would like to pursue and where you would like to step ashore, it’s all about doing things your way.

The two main factors that will affect your charter are the type of yacht and the destination. There are no hard and fast rules as to which to choose first – yacht or cruising ground – but the time of year during which you are planning to charter may well determine which destinations and yachts are available to you. If you have your heart set on a particular area, then you will need to focus on the yachts that charter in that area. Although most luxury yachts have certain details in common, they are all unique and offer a range of different features. For example, a traditional displacement motor yacht is ideal for a family charter, while a sailing yacht would be the best choice for a real yachting enthusiast. Our Yacht Guide on page 112 will help you decipher which type of yacht is most suitable for you and your charter party. From there, the Yacht Directory will give you information on yacht sizes, guest capacity, price, leisure facilities and where they are available. These 77 yachts are just a sample of the world’s most prestigious yachts. We have access to the world market of 3,000-plus vessels.

Steps for Chartering Successfully 1 While turning the pages of the Cruising Guides and Yacht Directory, take some time to think about the type of experience you are looking for from your yacht charter. What style of charter and type of yacht would best suit the size and character of your charter party? What time of year would you like to cruise? Which cruising grounds are the most appealing? As you browse through the Yacht Directory, bear in mind that most yachts only charter in specific areas. With that in mind, our Cruising Guides profile a vast selection of destinations, with expert tips and cruising itineraries to help you along the way.

H OW T O CHARTER All of Northrop & Johnson’s charter brokers have an encyclopedic knowledge of the best yachts and cruising grounds. The moment you make your first inquiry, your experienced broker will guide you through the entire process. From the initial yacht and destination selection, to the paperwork required to secure your preferred yacht and liaising with your captain and crew up until the moment you disembark, your charter broker will be available at any time to discuss your questions and concerns. Simply follow our Four Steps For Chartering Successfully and leave the details to us. Sit back, relax and enjoy the experience.

2 Armed with a few ideas, the next step is to contact your Northrop & Johnson charter broker. All of our charter experts are passionate about what they do. They know all the yachts available and will craft a suggested itinerary based on your individual tastes and preferences. They will begin by suggesting yachts based on amenities, activities offered, and, of course availability, in the right cruising area for you. 3 Once you have chosen the most suitable yacht, your charter broker will negotiate the most competitive terms and prepare all the necessary paperwork to secure the yacht for your desired destination and dates. 4 Your charter broker will liaise with the yacht’s captain and together they will arrange every detail. From the logistics before, during and after the charter, to the menu choices, cruising locations and any special requirements, they will ensure that you and your guests have the most incredible and unforgettable holiday.

“The Med never gets tired. It’s stunning, it’s chic, it’s trendy and it’s secluded all at the same time. Even if you’ve been for an annual pilgrimage, why not discover it in a whole new way. For example, step ashore in a port like Porto Venere for an Italian classic car road rally through the Tuscan countryside, stopping for a gourmet spectacular picnic set against a postcard-worthy backdrop straight from Under The Tuscan Sun."

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN Rich in both heritage and beauty, the cruising grounds of the Eastern Mediterranean have magic and mystery that nowhere else can match. Volcanic islands simmer with majestic magnificence, lush pine trees infuse the sea breezes and the varying, electrifying shades of the water defy belief. The Greek islands are suffused with mythology, whitewashed houses and beautiful beaches; the sun-drenched Cyclades island chain remains a hub of superyacht activity throughout the summer months, while the Ionian islands still have some quiet corners just waiting to be explored by yacht. Further west in the Adriatic Sea, discover the little-known wonders of the unspoiled Dalmatian Coast. 1 Bodrum to Knidos (25 nm) Life in Bodrum centers on the two ports, where cafés, bars, restaurants and tavernas make it easy to slip into a lazy pace of life. Step up onboard to view the stunning city backdrop as you head out on a charter to Göcek via Knidos, Datça, Bozburun and Marmaris.

3

TURKISH DELIGHTS Promising more history, culture and scenic anchorages than one could hope for, this is the Mediterranean at its most exotic. Between the Bodrum Peninsula and the Gulf of Fethiye, the Aegean Sea reflects every shade of green and blue, justifying its nickname of the “Turquoise Coast.” Sailing the clear turquoise waters is a pure delight, but those who venture inland will be rewarded with an enormous wealth of archaeological and historical sites as well as a contemporary Turkey with colorful bazaars, fabulous cuisine and chic bars – all just waiting to be enjoyed and explored.

Datça to Keçi Bükü (22 nm) Cruise toward Keçi Bükü, dropping anchor to swim in secret coves along the way. Spend the day enjoying watersports in the natural deep-water anchorage of Keçi Bükü. 4

5 Keçi Bükü to Marmaris (66 nm) Anchor in the pine-clad bay of Marmaris and enjoy an afternoon of watersports. Browse the traditional Grand Bazaar, wander through the older Kaleici district, catch an open-air concert in the amphitheater, or simply watch the world go by at one of the local restaurants and cocktail bars.

Marmaris to Ekincik (17 nm) Cruise east to Ekincik. It is worth setting aside a day to visit Dalyan, with its fourth-century BC Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff face. There are also local mud baths in ancient Kaunos where you can wallow in mineral-rich bliss. Ekincik to Göcek (30 nm) An ideal point to disembark, Göcek is a small but popular destination known for its yachting scene. Stroll along the palm-lined seafront and shop for trinkets, carpets and other fine fare, with regular stops for a glass of raki, Turkey’s answer to ouzo, to boost your negotiating confidence.

The combination of volcanic islands, desert landscapes and limestone cliffs set against brilliant blue waters in the Gulf of California, make for a voyage of discovery. It is only possible to fully explore this remote corner of the globe by boat, and being so remote, it remains unspoiled and uncrowded.

NATURE’S AQUARIUM Reveling in rare isolation 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos archipelago comprises 12 major islands and a handful of smaller islets, each displaying its own unique flora, fauna and rare animal species. Forever associated with Darwin, they are both a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. The islands are extremely protected and the number of yachts able to cruise these waters annually is limited. Itineraries are also provided by the Parque Nacional Galápagos, the governing body of the islands, advising where yachts are able to cruise and where guests are able to explore.

However, it is the beaches and wildlife that encourage most visitors to step ashore. 6 7 Isabela Island to San Cristóbal (65 nm) One of the oldest islands in the Galápagos, San Cristóbal is where the capital Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is located. Those looking for a little more adventure than the tried and tested Mediterranean and Caribbean should head for the Antipodes. Further south, the islands that dot the South Pacific are marooned in an idyllic ocean, forgotten by the 21st century, while in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles and Maldives provide all who grace their shores with a world of pure escapism. For something quite different, the lands of the Baltic are as remote as one could wish for. Cruise along the enchanting coastlines of Norway and Iceland, through the archipelagos of Denmark and Sweden or to the fairy tale fishing villages of Finland. The opportunities these varied coastlines provide are infinite. All four corners of the globe offer endless supplies of attractions and activities. SEVEN-DAY ITINERARY

Sorong, West Papua to Wayag Island (106 nm) Embark on your luxury yacht charter in Sorong and cruise through the Dampier Strait. Jump in for an occasional swim with the manta rays that soar through the plankton-rich waters. The area has the highest recorded marine biodiversity on earth. Cruise alongside the limestone pinnacles of the uninhabited islands that dot the landscape as you head to Wayag Island and its beautiful atolls. 1

FOREVER BLUE Indonesia is firmly on the bucket list of the adventurous yachting fraternity, attracting many superyachts taking in the exotic waters as they cruise through Southeast Asia. The largely uninhabited waters of the majestic Raja Ampat archipelago provide ample opportunities for cruising with year-round warm temperatures, world-class dive sites, peaceful anchorages and ideal sailing conditions. Comprising four main islands and thousands of small islets, the Raja Ampat archipelago lies off the northwestern coast of New Guinea and the waters are home to the country’s largest marine national park. This is the place to head if you love the underwater world and all that lies beneath the surface.

• • • • • •

Make the most of uninhabited islands, pristine beaches and amazing underwater worlds with Northrop & Johnson charter brokers’ recommendations... 3 Wayag Island Spend a few days exploring above and beneath the waterline around Wayag Island. Scientists have cataloged more than six times as many coral species in just a few acres as live in the entire Caribbean. Jump in to snorkel or dive the varied coral gardens, kayak through the lagoons and through the shallow waters that lap the white sandy beaches. Head inland to climb the Wayag Peak for spectacular views over the atolls. 4 Wayag Island to Fam, Penemu & Yeben Island (52 nm) The islands continue to offer perfect peaceful anchorages and stunning waters to keep all the guests on board in awe for the next few days. Made up of limestone pinnacles and cliffs that tower over secluded inlets, these are the waters where you will find pygmy seahorses playing among vibrant colored coral.

Yeben Island to Misool (144 nm) Take advantage of the crystal clear waters that lap Misool and spend the morning diving and snorkeling. Those wishing to explore above the waterline can kayak the bays, hike through the rainforests with a local guide, or simply step ashore to the deserted beaches that line the shore and enjoy the peace and solitude. 5

1 Tahiti to Moorea (20 nm) Step on board your luxury yacht on the cosmopolitan island of Tahiti and make way for Moorea. Aptly shaped as a heart, the island is a popular honeymoon spot and boasts superb resorts ashore and a colorful mix of marine life in the surrounding lagoon. Swim, snorkel or kayak through the waters and discover the stunning underwater world.

Moorea to Huahine (88 nm) Spend the day enjoying watersports in Moorea’s translucent lagoon before an overnight crossing to Huahine. The island is arguably the most picturesque in French Polynesia with steep mountains descending into protected bays of emerald green – perfect for all manner of water activities above and below the waterline. Formed of two islands separated by a narrow isthmus, Huahine is the perfect place to absorb some local culture. 2

PARADISE PRESERVED With a tropical climate and fanned by trade winds, the warm waters of the South Pacific provide perfect conditions for an unforgettable deserted island charter. The sprawling region is made up of five well-separated archipelagos located in the world’s largest ocean. Their landscapes range from rainforest-carpeted volcanic mountain peaks to white-sand beaches, blue lagoons and coral reefs. From the Society Islands to the Tuamotu Atolls, and the lesserknown Marquesas, Gambier and Austral Islands, planning a cruise here is something of a balancing act, but the rewards are many.

• • • • • • • •

Northrop & Johnson charter brokers recommend how best to explore the timeless beauty of the Society Islands... Spend the afternoon simply floating amid a rainbow of fish in the stunning lagoon as your crew prepares a traditional feast in an ahima’a – a Polynesian cooking pit dug into the ground.

Taha’a to Bora Bora (16 nm) From Taha’a it is a short cruise through the Te Ava Nui Pass and the Pai Pai Pass to the lagoon that surrounds the island of Bora Bora. With its densely vegetated interior and stunning beaches, the island itself is as close to the picture-perfect tropical ideal as it gets. Spend a few days exploring the island that is surrounded by reef and clusters of tiny islands, known locally as “motus,” before flying or cruising overnight to Tahiti. 6

YA C H T GUIDE Which type of yacht is right for you? Before you browse through the stunning portfolio of yachts in search of the best yacht for your charter party, here is an at-a-glance guide to the different types of yacht available. 1 Large, Modern Motor Yacht Spacious, stable and designed for pure comfort, large, modern motor yachts are suitable for families, first-time charterers, and large charter groups. Due to their capacity for interior and exterior volume, the larger motor yachts are usually capable of playing host to a range of amenities including Jacuzzis, swimming pools, entertainment systems, gymnasiums, plentiful dining and relaxation areas, and a variety of toys.

7

Vessel types to choose from

4 Sportfishing Yacht Sportfishing yachts are designed to withstand long periods at sea. The majority are fast performance vessels, similar to the performance motor yacht, however, their amenities are tailored toward big game fishing, and they come kitted out with everything you might require when exploring the world’s remotest fishing grounds.

5 Classic Sailing Yacht The allure of a classic sailing yacht appeals to those who want a genuine sailing experience and are looking to capture the real romance and thrill of yachting. They don’t usually have quite the level of luxury and comfort of a motor yacht, but for genuine sailors, there is no other choice.

Performance Motor Yacht High-performance motor yachts are a popular choice for those who are looking for the adrenalin and cool factor that goes with a fast performance yacht. With a focus on speed and comfort, this type of yacht is ideal for those looking to cover a lot of cruising ground in a shorter period. Suitable for shorter charters and smaller groups.

6 Modern Sailing Yacht For those looking for the amenities of a motor yacht but with the undisputed appeal of sailing, a modern sailing yacht is a good compromise. The most popular in this category are those with the size, comfort and facilities of a motor yacht but with the flexibility to put up the sails and turn off the motor on occasion.

3 Expedition Yacht Unique and versatile, expedition yachts are one of the safest types of yacht available to charter. Powerful and stable, they are designed for autonomous long-range cruising to remote destinations, many of which might be unreachable by any other means.

7 Catamaran Catamarans provide a great combination of sail and motor. Owing to their low draft, they are particularly popular with charterers looking to access shallow-water areas such as The Bahamas or the South Pacific, or those who want the thrill and enjoyment of sailing without the inconvenience of heeling at a 30-degree angle (better for families, for example).

Chai Rum 4 The World Distilled In A Glass There are few family-owned true West Indian rums left in the world and Akal Chai Rum is among them. While the idea of mixing tea with rum originated more than 400 years ago, this limited-reserve dark rum is the first of its kind. Chai Rum’s conception was inspired by a Dutch admiral’s 17th-century idea: “the combination of tea with rum is most delightful.” So, the makers of Chai Rum began to marry eight- to 10-year-old limited-reserve rums with two types of high-altitude teas and more than 15 tropical, aromatic botanicals to create the most sophisticated sipping rum in the world.

Corcoran 3 Luxury Real Estate Corcoran has 25 offices located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the East End of Long Island and South Florida. That means you are assured a real estate partner who is an expert on your neighborhood; it also promises the best-in-class experience of a premier brand. Nothing speaks louder than results. Corcoran agents generate up to $18.5 billion in total company sales annually. Because Tim Davis can tap into Corcoran’s reach and resources, you will instantly benefit from the credibility and expertise of America’s largest owner and operator of residential real estate brokerages. The Hamptons is one of the most sought-after destinations in the U.S.; that means there is no question that you are partnering with the market’s best in the Hamptons. Corcoran navigates the complexities of East End real estate for you. You know the lifestyle of the East End, and they understand the market. Power broker and lifelong Hamptons resident Tim Davis boasts an accomplished 39-year real estate career listing and selling some of the finest properties on the East End. Known as an expert in the marketplace, he continues to reign among the esteemed, sought-after top Hamptons brokers in the industry; plus, he consistently ranks among the Top 30 Agents in volume in the United States. In his exemplary career, Tim has sold over $4 billion of Hamptons real estate, ranging from luxury estate homes and oceanfront properties to village cottages and bayfront retreats. Tim’s global network has grown to include affiliations in other markets, including John Taylor International, Savills, Verzun and Leading Estates of the World — to name just a few. These relationships enable his clients to reap the benefits of exposing their properties to a vast international audience. Additionally, it allows him to share the wealth of knowledge that 39 years of experience can provide to both buyers and sellers alike. corcoran.com/hamptons

The process of making Akal Chai Rum is a carefully guarded trade secret; it has been recognized as the first, true innovation in rum production in more than a century by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. This spirit has a 95-point rating from the Tasting Panel in the United States, which puts it in a highly exclusive category. Created to be enjoyed as a sipping product, the rum’s complex profile attracted the attention of the world’s top mixologists and aficionados, providing them with a new inspiration for cocktails and elevating the art of rum mixology. Through this, the experience of “The World Distilled in a Glass,” was born. You can visit it at www.chairum.com or on YouTube (Akal Chai Rum). You will discover Chai Rum’s signature smoke service “The Mariners Flight,” and cocktails that take you from East to West, across seasons, cultures and time. You can also view our current Cocktail Collection at chairum.eu/menus. Chai Rum is proud to be a global strategic partner of Northrop & Johnson, and share with the company and its clients a love of the world and adventure. chairum.com instagram.com/chairumglobal info@chairum.com
