With the Wimbledon finals due to hit our screens this month, there is no better time to get out and try the sport for yourself…

Prestatyn Tennis Club

If you have been inspired to pick up your racket and give tennis a go this summer then there are plenty of local clubs where you can practise – or even learn the sport from scratch.

Rhos-On-Sea Tennis Club has three all-weather hard courts and three astroturf courts. All courts are playable throughout the year, with four of the six courts floodlit.

Rhos-On-Sea LTC has summer camps for children that provide lots of fun team challenges, games and competitions, where players can be a part of a vibrant and busy club. Its camps cover all performance factors of tennis players: mental, physical, technical and tactical.

This summer the camps run from 22nd July to 26th August and cost £20 per day (or £70 per week) for members and £25 a day (or £85 a week) for non members. Rackets are provided, and the camps are a great way for kids to make new friends.

Meanwhile the James Alexander Barr Tennis Centre in Colwyn Bay is in the process of starting new coached tennis sessions. These programmes include cardio tennis, adult pay and play, disabled sessions and group sessions for children called ‘mini reds’. The JAB Tennis Centre provides two full-size indoor tennis courts, both featuring tournament standard, acrylic flooring

– making them suitable for competitive and high-class play. Lighting is provided by the sun during the day via the semitransparent roof, and during the evenings and darker winter

Outside and the centre has four full-size outdoor courts. All of JAB’s outdoor tennis courts feature a concrete surface and floodlights, and are surrounded by a high fence enabling play

A bit further down the coast and Prestatyn Tennis Club is a family-friendly tennis club that is open to all abilities and expectations. It offers fun club sessions for members where you can turn up and play, and both adult and junior tennis coaching is also available.

Prestatyn Tennis Club has a very active membership, with teams in the North Wales Tennis Summer and Winter Leagues. And, whether you are joining as a family or individually, you will find the club very welcoming.
