HONDA CR-V WINS AT THE 2023 AUTO TRADER NEW CAR AWARDS

The Honda CR-V has been named the Best Hybrid Car up against fierce competition in the prestigious Auto Trader New Car Awards 2023. In its fifth generation, the Honda CR-V is renowned for unparalleled levels of efficiency and refinement. Solely available as a self-charging hybrid, this popular C-segment SUV is extremely popular amongst Honda loyalists.

The Auto Trader New Car accolades are awarded based on the opinions of car owners. Consumers rate cars based on 16 different criteria, from reliability and performance to appearance and running costs. They were also asked about their overall satisfaction with their car and how likely they would be to recommend it to others.

This year, in its seventh year, Auto Trader received feedback from over 220,000 UK car owners contributing to the awards nominations and titles.

Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Auto Trader commented: “A great win here for this popular SUV, famed for its build

quality and reliability, with excellent residuals to match. One owner said: ‘The car feels like you’re floating; it’s so smooth to drive, powerful, frugal, with great comfort and well built. Great car.’”

Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda UK collected the award at the ceremony last night in London. Rebecca commented: “We believe that the Honda CR-V is the ideal family car as it offers plenty of practicality, refinement, and quality. We’re so pleased that this is recognised by the people who have real world experience with the car. We’re delighted that the Auto Trader New Car Awards gives consumers a platform to have their say.”

The new Honda CR-V, which will be offered with two different hybrid powertrain options, will go on sale later this year. These are the CR-V e:HEV full hybrid and the CR-V e:PHEV plug-in hybrid. A more dynamic and sporting appearance will be offered by the sixth generation CR-V thanks to contemporary design elements that mirror its exhilarating driving abilities. This generation will build on the famous silhouette of its predecessor.

ŠKODA AUTO GEARS UP TO PRODUCE THE NEXT-GENERATION KODIAQ

SKODA NORTON WAY CORPORATE • ISSUE 101 • JUNE 2023
NORTON WAY CORPORATE • ISSUE 101 • JUNE 2023

Škoda Auto gears up to produce the nextgeneration Kodiaq

As one of the new Škoda models to debut this year, the second-generation Kodiaq is already in the starting blocks. As Škoda will continue to manufacture its successful SUV in Kvasiny, the Czech car manufacturer has already begun the comprehensive adaptation of the production line. The first pilot production vehicles are already being produced, while series production will commence next year.

Kodiaq will be equipped with everything needed to expand on the success of its predecessor.

Škoda X: New centre for developing in-car digital services and smart technologies launches

Michael

Auto Board Member

Škoda has launched a new advanced technology centre focused on the development and deployment of digital and smart services. Škoda X will look to deliver products across all its models, including the Enyaq iV, which bring greater owner convenience.

Production

Logistics, says: “The preparations for the production of our upcoming second-generation Kodiaq are already in full swing. As is typical for Škoda, we are once again using existing infrastructure while cleverly integrating new technologies. However, comprehensively adapting and further futureproofing an assembly line that remains in operation is a highly demanding task both technically and logistically. At the same time, we have also successfully redistributed and optimised our model production and were thus able to free up additional capacity.”

The new Kodiaq will also be available as a plug-in hybrid – preparations are already in full swing

The automaker is spending about 12 million euros to modify the production line so that it can also accommodate future demands. The line is currently set up to create the Kodiaq iV with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The investments entail the modification of robots for the application of window adhesive as well as the integration of already-existing technologies including manipulators, conveyors, and chassis assembly. Then, every day, up to 410 second-generation Kodiaqs should leave the factory.

Kodiaq as a trailblazer for the Škoda SUV campaign

The second generation of Škoda Auto's largest SUV, the Kodiaq, will be unveiled this autumn, with the market introduction scheduled for 2024. Modern, effective petrol and diesel engines, a plug-in hybrid, and - for the first time - a mild hybrid will all be offered on the model. The automaker is elevating its largest SUV in terms of safety, technology, and versatility. The new

Peer-to-peer car sharing, which enables private owners to rent out their own vehicles to other people, permits car-sharing for those who don't want to own a vehicle full-time. This is one of the initial services being evaluated by the technology centre.

Depending on what the user needs, it offers a bigger range and number of cars. Additionally, the system is being developed so that Škoda dealers can use it to enable prospective buyers to schedule lengthy test drives of models like the Enyaq iV before making a purchase.

The Prague-based innovation cluster is also testing a novel energy storage system composed of recycled Enyaq iV battery models to create standalone charging stations for electric vehicles. where it would be impossible to establish many charging stations, the ability to offer a charging infrastructure.

It will also serve as the hub for several other technologies that are currently undergoing trials across Europe, such as the new Pay to Fuel services, accessible through the car's infotainment system, and the DigiCert service, which boosts confidence for anyone buying or selling a used Škoda model.

The Škoda Digital Certificate, available through Care Connect Remote Access, offers customers a comprehensive range of vehicle data, including vehicle identification, technical specifications, current mileage, prepaid service and warranty extensions, and the complete service history. The DigiCert automatically records the vehicle’s mileage on a weekly basis once Škoda Connect Remote Access services are activated. The DigiCert helps to provide greater confidence in the vehicle when buying or selling it.

KIA EV6 GT COMPLETES THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RACE IN THE WORLD

The Kia EV6 GT has completed the 1000 Miglia Green 2023, finishing as the highest-ranking performance electric vehicle entered into the race and sixth overall. The race drew to a close on Saturday, 17 June.

The self-proclaimed ‘most beautiful race in the world’, the 1000 Miglia is an unparalleled test of endurance for both car, driver and navigator, requiring performance, precision and skill in order to score well throughout the race. The 1000 Miglia Green is a sub-category of the historic event, open only to fully electric cars.

The 2023 race, which lasted five days and more than 2,000 km, was the longest in the race's nearly 100-year history. The Jade Paveley and Ross Leach professional rally driver combo was the sole team representing Great Britain in the race, and the Kia EV6 GT was the first Korean vehicle to ever compete in the 1000 Miglia Green. Additionally, the occasion marked the debut of an EV6 GT in a competitive, FIA-approved motor race.

The courageous rally-driving husband and wife combo was able to demonstrate their remarkable rally pedigree during the arduous race by deftly traversing the course and winning numerous stage races along the way. The EV6 GT, the highest-scoring performance EV, was brought home by team Kia as the teams raced back to Brescia on the final day of competition.

The perfect test

Designed from the outset as a true GT car, the EV6 GT offers blistering performance from its twin electric motor setup that together deliver 577bhp and 740Nm of torque through all four wheels. Mated with a powerful 77.4kWh battery, the car is capable of covering 263 miles (WLTP combined) per charge. Charging is equally rapid, thanks to

KIA NORTON WAY CORPORATE • ISSUE 102 • JULY 2023 24

the car’s E-GMP platform that supports 800V charging, enabling 10-80 per cent charge in as little as 18 minutes at the fastest charge points.

Importantly, each of the timed legs travelled throughout the event was completed with a single charge of the car, which was notable despite the significant distance, challenging nature of the roads, and speeds required for the race. At the conclusion of each day, charging was finished using Kia Charge and, when possible, some destination charging at hotels. More than 540,000 charge points are available with Kia Charge, providing easy single-account access to many different charging networks and operators.

The 1000 Miglia Green’s blend of rapid road driving under Police escort along with precision time-trial and special stages on closed roads were the perfect test for the car’s considerable performance. 0-62mph is dispatched in just 3.5 seconds, onto the car’s official top speed of 162mph. This made it the second fastest EV to be entered into this year’s race.

Nothing but praise

Jade Paveley, rally driver and commentator, said: “This has been an incredible experience and is like no other I’ve ever entered. The EV6 GT proved itself to be not only a competent race car, but an outstanding grand tourer as we travelled Italy at speed and in comfort; and even got to take in a lot of the country’s beautiful scenery. Of course, I’d like to thank the organisers of the 1000 Miglia Green for putting together a great race, and the team at Kia UK for the opportunity to take part in one of the world’s most prestigious rally events. The EV6 GT is every bit worthy of wearing the GT badge. Not only is it exceptionally fast, but it’s also comfortable for long distances, fun to drive and not once did we have range anxiety as a result of its great driving range.”

HONDA SURFS INTO WHEELS AND WAVES

2023 WITH CUSTOM MINIBIKES

BIKES

Honda surfs into Wheels and Waves 2023 with custom minibikes

In 2022 it was custom CMX500 Rebels, with Maanboard from Sardinia-based customisers Motocicli Audaci taking the honours, while 2021 saw Mototrafa’s CB650R Fenix win for Portugal.

For 2023, it’s the turn of the minibikes. Honda have invited seven young artists to collaborate with established bike builders to both inspire a younger generation of riders and spark interest in the joys of two wheelers among new audiences.

If any manufacturer has bikes to do that, it’s Honda – with the 125cc Dax, Monkey and MSX125 Grom. Each are icons in their own right, meaning different things to different riders. The retro Dax and funky Monkey both inspire thoughts of the 1970s; the Grom is a rolling, contemporary style statement even before it gets any special treatment.

All three of them have a very positive attitude. Even without riding one, it's difficult not to smile when you see one. They are the ideal starting bike since they are entertaining, fashionable, and economical. Add to that their diminutive, unthreatening size and incredible fuel efficiency.

Honda will be present at Wheels and Waves 2023 as a result of the very interesting results that were achieved when some very creative minds were combined with some equally brilliant bike makers.

This is just one of several initiatives demonstrating Honda's dedication to attracting new riders to the market. The Ride Free activation, which enables participants to test-drive a Honda motorcycle while receiving instruction from a Honda Approved Motorcycle Training Instructor, is a significant activation in the UK. Participants are guided through the fundamentals of riding a motorbike with an instructor by their side in a secure off-road setting. All necessary clothing and safety gear is offered.

The Ride Free Experience activities will be held at our Honda Approved Training Dealerships or at their affiliated training facilities all throughout the year.
