Welcome to April fellow Nourish readers! March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb! Well in my corner of the world it did, the last days of March were truly beautiful spring days with sun and warmer temperatures. All seasons bring gifts to us but I think spring brings with it hope and cheer. People are out at the first sign of good weather, wearing flip flops, lighter brighter clothing and smiles. They are looking at birth in the form of flowers and planning adventures that include long walks around park lakes where they can soak up the suns warm rays. At the local coffee shops people fill the outdoor tables and converse with friends and strangers alike. All seem filled with a sense of renewal. It occurred to me that now, more than on January first, is the beginning of a new year. This time period makes more sense with all the new blossoms appearing, the young tender shoots of green springing up, this is natures “new year”. While humans bring in the New Year with an array of beautiful fireworks, nature in her glory brings us fireworks in the simplistic approach of rebirth of her beauty. As humans, we embrace this rebirth even when we are not aware of doing so. We celebrate the return of spring by being outside more often, planting flowers in our gardens and peeling away the layers of winter to show our appreciation as we anticipate the longer days that will lead to summer.

In my last article “The Way Forward” I indicated that collectively we are moving from mindfulness to soulfulness. I thought it would be a good idea to get to the “heart” of the matter and shed a little light on how we can move towards achieving this. When we live in mindfulness we are coming from our mind and tend to react logically to whatever is going on around us. To live from a place of soulfulness means to come from the soul, to allow our souls to guide us. How do we open up to trusting the soul to lead? We quiet our minds and listen to our hearts.

www.nourishpublication.com

The heart has long been a symbol of love. Our physical heart is what keeps us alive. It pumps blood to the rest of our body which carries oxygen and glucose that regulate our body. A function that happens with no thought from us, it just is. As if that was not enough, it has an even bigger role in our lives. Not only is its function to keep us alive, it is the seat of our soul. The soul expresses itself through the heart. Sounds pretty simple, although for the most part I think it must be difficult or more

people would be living from the soul instead of the mind. I believe we place too much value on our thinking. We over think most situations in life, and then spend too much time coming up with solutions for overthought problems we create. What if we did not over think? I mean, we have to think, as it is an integral part of our being; we would not be able to function in day to day life if we did not think. We would become blobs that sat all day and did nothing, which would set back the evolution of mankind infinitely. I would like to take it back to the before thought stage. An idea comes to us, say … go sit on a park bench in the sun. Immediately the mind jumps into action…. “A park bench? Where am I to

find a park bench? Oh and I need to make sure it is in the sun. Time? I don’t have time to be sitting on a bench!” You see, the mind takes

the idea that floated in and right away starts figuring out the logics. Chances are you will not be seeing a park bench on that day or any day in the near future. Our minds then make it a planned event. It becomes a date in our planner. Sunday May 23 – Park Bench – Soak up sun. You would probably include the name of the park, chosen for its location and closeness to where you live; you will pack water, snacks, a good book, and sunscreen. We just took soulful and turned it into mindful. What if the idea came to us … Go sit on a park bench in the sun. And we observed how that made us feel while we went about our current activities. I believe before the end of the day we would be sitting on a park bench enjoying the sun. Why? Because our soul lead us there and the mind did not interfere with all the junk about how, when, where, and why. We are just following how the idea made us feel. Now granted the idea could make you get the heeby jebbies because park benches are not your

www.nourishpublication.com

thing, but if your heart likes the idea, why put up so many road blocks to enjoying it? In this glorious year of 2013 when we are learning who we truly are and letting go of that which no longer serves us, why not listen to our hearts more often? If this is a year of nonplanning and going with the flow, what better time than now to allow our souls to speak and direct our life. If we can quiet our minds for a few minutes when an idea floats in and check to see how our heart is reacting we will experience more joy that is in alignment with our true selves. We will not be creating (mindful) activities to fill the void or to achieve a sense of “fun”. Our soul knows us like no other here on this planet; I think we can trust it to guide us to not only fun but a life that is fulfilled on all levels. It might take a bit of work to figure out how to switch off the mind from its logic for a moment but the rewards will be worth it in the end.

In my practice, I work with clients from a broad range of spiritual backgrounds, as well as many who have no interest in things spiritual. I have the deepest respect for each one of them, and endeavor to provide a therapeutic approach which honors and incorporates each individual’s belief system. It is not that difficult to find common threads of wisdom in the many spiritual traditions, and in basic common sense approaches to life. There is, however, one aspect of some religious orientations that is not always conducive to good mental health, or healthy spiritual growth, for that matter. It is the concept of a punishing God. If we are growing morally and spiritually, we evolve to a level where we choose

www.nourishpublication.com

our actions based on what we know to be good and fair, as opposed to fear of punishment. Unfortunately, just as it is the good students in the class who quiver when the teacher reprimands the errant ones, so it seems to be the good people who suffer pain and anxiety when they fear disappointing God. Further, divisions are created when the population is divided into those whom God will love and care for, and those who he ‘rejects’ and will ultimately abandon. It can be easier to behave in unloving ways towards ‘rejects’, just as it is easier to bully the children whom the teacher clearly dislikes.

Encouragement and forgiveness works better with children in general, so the same must be true for children of God. Growing up in a family ultimately requires that we take personal responsibility for our actions, and make good choices, whether or not anyone will catch us. Maturing as citizens means that we will not run the red light, even if it is 4 o’clock in the morning and no one is in sight. Growing spiritually means we come to recognize our true spiritual nature as something inherent. We are all part of the human family, one totality, regardless of how our minds may segment geographically or spiritually. Each of us belongs here: the mosaic of life would not be the same without us. What might an allloving, encouraging God have to say to us? My guess is that the message would be one of compassion and support. We would be told that we have wisdom and goodness programmed into us, and we only need pay attention and act according to our highest wisdom. When we falter, when we do something about which we do not feel good, I think we would be advised to carry on, learning from our experience. We might also be assured of continuing love and support along with acceptance of the fact that we are not perfect: we are all still growing. We might also be encouraged to trust ourselves, even if we are not always in full agreement, or comfortable with what may be happening in our religious community, if we are part of one.

awesome responsibility, far more difficult and challenging than simply following ‘the rules’. We are, I believe, active participants in an unconditionally loving universe. All that is required is what any good parents require of their children…that we do our best, remain conscious of the effects of our actions upon others, and learn from our mistakes. With a sense of safety, encouragement, and trusting that we are loved, we can then love ourselves enough to evolve into the highest manifestation of our being. We grow best in love, not in fear.

Many things are done in the name of God which are patently ‘un-Godly’. If we know this to be true, we must have the courage to speak our truth. As a civilization, we are ‘growing up’. Hopefully we are not as primitive as we once were. We do not have to live in fear of punishing gods or bad karma. We can probably create enough of our own negative consequences without outside help. Fear of consequences results in constrictive, contracted ways of thinking, and seems to stunt growth. Choosing actions based on our wish to live in alignment with the highest principles of Earthly or Heavenly existence seems to open us up to endless creative possibilities. To have the courage to establish a personal relationship with the highest power we perceive, and to interpret that energy in our daily living, is to take full responsibility for who we are, and all we might be. This done every day and as often as you can keeps you centered in your heart and able to stay there and live by it Here is a simple technique to use for heart centered breathing... By using breath and focus we can help ourselves to become centered in our hearts and bring ease to ourselves and situations.. 1) bring your focus and attention to the center of your chest in the area around your heart 2) Breathe deeply but normally and feel as if your breath is coming in and going out through your heart. 3) Activate a positive feeling such as appreciation or care... Recall a time when you felt good Inside and re experience it. Try and use heart centered breathing for five minute a day for week... With practice you will begin to notice subtle difference in your life and in those stressful situations. Here is the resource I spoke of: http://www.heartmath.org/free-services/tools-for-well-being/quick-coherenceadult.html

The rune that I drew for this month is Ingwaz, the rune of fertility. The appearance of this rune in a cast is almost always positive. It could signal a milestone in your life, such as the birth of a child, a new job, or a new love affair, depending what it is paired with. It indicates the ending of one phase of your life and the beginning of a new one. It could mean that now is the right time to plant the seeds of your most guarded plans. The conditions are ripe and the soil is ready to receive them. You have only to remain focused and work hard and your harvest will be bountiful. As the symbol of fertility, Ingwaz’s presence in a cast may also herald renewed vitality and vigor in your life. www.nourishpublication.com

This month’s rune stone is Jera or as it was once known, Jordegumma, The Old Woman of the Earth. Long ago two expeditions from far away Sweden arrived at the same time to the same eastern shores of Greenland. While they were surprised by their coincidental meeting, they were far more surprised at the inhospitable land they found themselves on. “We were led to believe that this land would live up to its name but there is nothing green here,” they lamented. “We should leave and go back to Sweden before winter comes.” But others said, “if we go back our investment will be lost and everyone will think us fools” So, in spite of their disappointment they decide to stay, divided up the land fairly, and began to till the

rocky soil. It was very hard work and both tribes were getting discouraged but then, one of the chiefs told his people that they possessed an advantage over the other tribe. For the first time, he revealed himself as the high priest of the goddess Jordegumma. “She is the daughter of Earth Mother Erda, the spirit of natural abundance,” he proclaimed. “The reason this place is cold and barren is because she has never been honored here. We are the first in this part of Greenland and if we pay proper homage to her, we can become very wealthy.” Now the priest was very persuasive and that, coupled with his tribes desperation, made his people that much more receptive to the idea of erecting a temple to her. All the while, the other tribe was busy in the back breaking business of farming. When they had finished building the temple, the priest gathered his people inside. “Kinsmen, I have great news,” he e x c l a i m e d . “Jordegumma came to me in a dream last night.” Whereby, all the people gasped in religious awe. “She told me that all of Asgard thanks you for c o n st r uc t in g th is beautiful shrine and no further work is required of you. Your labors will soon be blessed with tremendous wealth. While the others slave to survive, you do not need to plow, because a rich harvest is about to descend on you from the heavens.” At this news, his tribesmen were ecstatic and all thoughts of regret about coming to Greenland were washed away. “There is just one thing more we need to do before Jordegumma sends our abundance to us. While this is an excellent shrine, it lacks a suitable statue of the goddess. The only one acceptable to her is one back in Sweden and she commanded me to go back and bring it here. Once I have set this wooden image in the corner of her temple, her promise will be fulfilled and we will be the lords of Greenland.” Because of the eloquence of the priest, everyone gave freely of what gold and silver coins they had, actually, all they had, in order to buy the wooden

icon. The next day they saw him off, wishing him a safe journey and he sailed away to the east. Now, members of the other tribe expressed much admiration for the fine building they had erected but wondered how their neighbors could afford the time and energy needed to undertake such an elaborate project when coaxing a living out of the hard, flinty soil, was a full time job. “Oh, we do not have to work as you do, “they answered. “Jordegumma will provide all we need,” and they entered their new shrine to pray for the safe return of the high priest. For the rest of spring and into summer they did little else but with the onset of fall and no sign of the abundance of Jordegumma or the priest, they began to worry for their future. Their concerns were aggravated by their dwindling food supplies as they had not bothered to work the land or even do any fishing. “What if the priest never comes back?” some wondered. “What if he was lost in a storm at sea?” The truth was that the priest was safe back at home in Sweden, where he purchased a fine home with the settler’s money, after sadly lamenting that he was the last survivor of the colony. The rest had died of famine, he said as he wept. Although the Greenlanders were unaware of his treachery, they also knew that they could not survive without charity. Their hardworking neighbors had been blessed with a moderate harvest, so they came to them, cap in hand, promising to repay them amply the next year. Their less religious kinfolk shared all with them so they didn’t starve of the harsh winter months. Grateful for their kindness and chagrined at being duped by the priest, they tore down the shrine as it was no longer as place of worship but instead a monument to their naivety. They used the timbers to construct better homes for themselves and their neighbors. (Continued on page 14)

(Continued from page 13)

They did not turn against the goddess but instead learned that she rewarded them for hard work, not because of empty shrines and prayers. The only homage she wanted was human energy devoted to helping new life emerge from the land. Come springtime, the needy settlers were as good as their word. They began to build and farm so aggressively that the living conditions and harvests improved dramatically. Then the Old Woman of the Earth did truly bless them just as the priest had foretold, but in a far different way than he could have ever imagined. Jordegumma’s rune signifies the reaping of rewards as a result of diligence. She is, after all, the daughter of the Earth Mother, representing the harvest and natural abundance which only comes with the exertion of our hearts, minds, and muscles in honest labor. She represents the adage, “God helps those who help themselves.” She also represents what Joseph Campbell defines as “the authentic life,” that is, following the kind of work that gives you the most joy, or as some call it, ”following your bliss.” In doing so, you will strive harder for yourself than under any employer, not just for an inflated pay cheque but for your own personal satisfaction. As suggested by her agricultural rhythms, Jordegumma’s rune is connected to all cycles of growth. Not only crops come to fruition, but so does justice. She is equally concerned with legal matters, including marriage, business deals, and contracts of all kinds. Svensson refers to her sign as “the rune of cyclical return.” Pennick believes, “it is the rune of completion at the proper time, for a plentiful harvest can only happen if the right things have been done at the right time” In other words, it represents the natural order of existence. McVan’s belief is that Jordegumma’s rune deals with “the progression of the seasons, sowing and reaping, birth, death and rebirth, and the rewards and penalties for one’s actions.” The birth it implies is not of infants alone but of all living things and ideas.

www.nourishpublication.com

Jordegumma’s rune is in parallel with Capricorn, December 21 –January 19. The Norse called this period Landvidi, the White Land, and it shared with Aegir and Vidar, gods of the sea and sky respectively. Along with the Old Woman of the Earth, they form the fundamental levels of our world. Her color is blue for the heavens above and the ocean beneath. Her gemstone is agate for its association with health and longevity, components of a successful life cycle. Until next month, I urge you to read and learn more about runes and their significance. Who’d’a thunk it? Those teeny, tiny seeds that give such an amazing flavour to stews and to coleslaw salad – made into an essential oil! I love celery seeds – and this oil is like having a bottle of those seeds with me all the time. It is an interesting smell, and one that you may have to try once or twice before you decide that you like it. (Check out the tip below!) When you have therapeutic grade celery seed oil you can use it in cooking in place of the actual seeds. That’s one of the wonderful things about essential oils – they are incredibly diverse. (It’s easy to pack along a few bottles of essential oils that can be used for emergency first aid, mental stimulation, emotional upsets – and cooking!) Celery seed has been used to help with gout by helping to reduce uric acid. It is a general di-

www.nourishpublication.com

Celery seed is not a hot oil, so it can be applied directly on the skin on the area of concern (if you have any skin sensitivities please dilute) or use it on the Vita Flex or reflexology points on the feet. Put a couple of drops in a gel cap or mix one drop of oil in 1 tsp. of honey or 4 oz of soy, rice or almond milk. Diffuse it for the calming and relaxing affect is has on the mind and body. If you want to use celery seed oil in a blend it is classified as the personifier. The scent lasts a long time so you want it to make up not more than 1% to 5% of your blend. A great oil to use for a massage! Tip # 1: when you have a new oil or oil blend that you are going to smell, don’t bring the open bottle directly to your nose. Instead, hold it down by your navel and open it slowly. In a few seconds begin to bring it up to your nose – again moving slowly. By the time you have the bottle to your nostrils, your body has already been introduced to the scent and it will not be a shock. This is especially helpful if you are sensitive to smells!

Tip # 2: Love your essential oils and wish your massage therapist used them? Have a special blend that is calling out to be used? Bring your oils with you to your masseuse and ask her or him to use them in place of his or her own. Please remember to use only 3rd party certified therapeutic grade essential oils.

What do you smell right now? What is the brightest colour you can see? What do you hear? What textures can you feel? How do you feel? Is it hot? Cold? Just right? I often forget to take inventory of how I am feeling and before I know it I am exhausted and agitated. This week my fiancé asked me what is wrong and I said “I don’t know” but I knew I was uncomfortable. I had neglected to write in my journal for a couple weeks but I knew it was time to take it out of hiding. I had to focus in on how I was actually feeling and not the usual quick response of “fine”. I often hear my mother’s voice when I say “Fine” [ Freaked out, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional] . (Touché). So, I opened up one of my many journal work books and flipped it open at random. I felt that the right activity was in front of me – looking at refocusing on my senses. Perfect. I began to write about each of my senses in the moment at that time. I wanted to know what was truly around me and how was it helping or taking away from feeling great! (Continued on page 17)

What could I feel? Safety and warmth as I wrapped myself in an old blanket left at my house by my older sister. I don’t know if she knows how much that old blanket means to me? As I continued to write out my present sensory it turned from negative moments to positive ones filled with gratitude. How amazing my life is. After the exercise I came out of the room and felt like I could take on the world again (this time with a smile). I am often asked “why journal?” And, it’s for these moments. Sometimes I walk away from writing and I feel like I need to continue and sometimes I walk away feeling renewed and ready for more. This was the later as I knew I felt more than “fine”. I felt renewed, reenergized and all those tasks that seemed to be so daunting before opening up and writing became manageable. I no longer felt like hiding under the covers and wishing it all away. I knew I felt tired, exhausted and stressed out from being very busy and not taking time for self-care. I could hear children playing outside and a neighbour’s dog barking. I began to feel annoyed as what I really wanted was absolute silence from the world. Then I looked at how I was feeling – cold. Oh! Why don’t I turn on the heat? Anxiety popped out of its cave. Bills! Money! Wedding. Oh.

So from that writing exercise I managed to write down a to-do list for the night, tomorrow and the weekend. Then I began to put away my clothes. The soft chanting became louder as my mind clutter rescinded. Ommm...shanti, shanti. Re/focusing on the senses allowed me to continue moving on the path that felt right because when the mind clutter cleared away I could see my direction once again. I could re/focus on the path I was on and me Namaste.

What could I see? Clothes strewn on top the dresser and an unmade bed.

Oh. What did I smell? Incense burning from the meditation room. Beautiful. What could I hear? Soft chanting sounds playing on the cd player in the meditation room downstairs. What could I see? Beautiful sunshine streaming from the windows and reflecting off of the closet mirrors.

Today I was musing upon my life and some decisions that had been made in the past. Those decisions created a perfect storm for me. And what would it take to have more ease and joy in my life? The postman delivered a letter from the CRA. I always have a gut reaction to a government letter. Let me tell you why. A few years ago, my husband and I participated in a wonderful charitable project that, in our opinion was a win/win situation. The CRA had another opinion. Now I could get my panties in a big knot, which I did at the beginning. Yes, it

is a long drawn out process and today’s letter was yet another chapter of the story. However, getting my panties in a knot is not useful. There are a bevy of attorneys dealing with this. We have been following all the directions given to us. I have to trust in the process. I, however, have been conditioned like many of you to cringe when a letter from the government arrives on my doorstep. Yikes! What is that? THAT is my childhood conditioning. I grew up witnessing my father stress himself at tax time. He wasn’t in-

volved in anything unscrupulous but still he worried himself sick. THAT has been locked into my body and my unconscious mind. How many things are locked into your unconscious mind that drives your life without your conscious consent? But wait; there is another aspect to this story that is playing out. The energies that are pulsing onto our planet are magnifying the locked in unconscious drivers in the seat we call our life. Have you noticed how there is a bit of an edge going on in (Continued on page 19)

your life and in the lives of those around you? This morning I was driving back from a very peaceful interlude at my favorite park, where I watch the ocean and the eagles play in the sky. I was feeling wonderful! But, as each block went by I began to feel edgy. Why is that driver going so slowly? Why can’t I get a break at the lights? It wasn’t as if I was in a rush, yet I was feeling irritable! Question; “Who does this belong to?” I felt lighter which meant it wasn’t mine. Whew! “Return to sender-with love.” Yikes there it is again! What is up with these energies? It would seem I had my answer, when I retrieved my mail and opened THE LETTER. Thankfully, I remembered that today was the day that there was a talk radio program that would unlock my unease. The call was on judgment and how we make ourselves wrong or others try to make us wrong. This was very appropriate timing. It seems the universe has my back! I had made myself wrong for the decision to invest in this win/win situation that CRA deemed not a win. I listened to the facilitators use the clearing statement and felt the energies unwind in my body. How I love this stuff! How I love that the universe is there to support me. It is also there to support you. All you have to do is ask! Or you could blame it on the energies, but in truth, I am thanking them. This is my opportunity to fire those chauffeurs! By asking a question I am literally opening myself up to the infinite possibilities that are available to me. Who wouldn’t want that? I wanted more ease and I remembered the telecall. Request delivered. That was easy!

www.nourishpublication.com

The answers may not always be apparent but they will come-they will come! The universe has our back. It wants us to be happy, to be abundant, to have love, to be well. The universe wants us to have more ease and joy in our lives. This is what is up on planet earth right now! You are being urged to consider that it doesn’t have to be the same old patterns and the same old answers. There is magic afoot and you dear ones are part of that. You may have the answer for someone else, because they have been asking and they may have an answer for you because you asked! You are not in this alone, though some days it may feel like that. We urge you to hang tight and remember to breathe, so that you can remember to ask a question. No, not a why question. A why question keeps you stuck in the moment you have created. A question that begins with what gets the universe’s attention. You have the power and you have always had the power. You just forgot. Silly you. Do you think you would have wanted in on the playground that is planet earth without the power to choose? That wouldn’t have been very fair would it now? The playground is fair in that each of you has free will to choose in each and every moment how you feel, how you think and how you be.

What would it take for you to claim your very heritage-not the one handed down by well meaning adults and authority figures-but by youthat knew that you were encoded with love and the ability to access all the information that you needed. The energies are coming in to activate that fully in you along with everything that entails. We do not say this lightly and we say it lightly too-you are magnificent beings of love and light-period! Now what will you do with that? Go For The Joy Linda and The Group

This month we are going to look at our physical selves. How many times do you look in the mirror and find fault with what you see? How often do you feel emotional pain because of the way your body looks? What do you do in order to have the physical body you believe you must have? And what do you do to your body when it doesn’t cooperate? Do you think it is possible to be peace, to know peace when you are at war with your own body? There are billions of dollars spent to make you feel as though your body just the way it is has no value – and that is true whether you are male or female. Every where you go there are pictures of models, actors, actresses who are “perfect” in shape, in size

www.nourishpublication.com

– hair, teeth, skin all the “picture” of perfection. What is interesting is that most of us know this is fallacy…and we still fall for it, even if only in a small way. Have you ever done mirror exercises? It is very powerful stuff! That is one of your exercises this month…but not the first. The first thing we are going to do is to sit with a journal and write down every thought that comes to us about our body. Everything from aches and pains all the way through to that stray thought about our ankles…and don’t hesitate to list the things that you enjoy! Make sure that you are relaxed and won’t be

April 2013

disturbed while you do this. When you are finished, read it over. Add to it as other thoughts come to your mind. Set it aside, close your eyes and listen to some soft music, then create another list. Compare the two. Create a list of how you think others perceive your body. Are the words similar? Over the course of the first week carry some small blank business cards with you (or use the Note section of your phone or other portable device). Bring as much of your awareness to this task as you can. Note as many thoughts as you can that you have about your body as you go through each day, from the moment you wake up until you are getting ready for bed. Make sure that you include the thoughts you have about how others are perceiving you. Second week: begin to pay attention to how your body feels as you move through your day. When does it feel relaxed? Rejuvenated? Loved? When you feel achy at work – how does that feel? Are you inspired to stretch? Pay attention. Do you not stretch because someone might think or say something? When a thought strikes you to do something physically delightful – a walk, a run, a yoga class…what do you do? Pay attention. When someone sneezes or coughs around you….what do you think? Pay attention. Third week: Set aside at least a half an hour one night when you will not be disturbed. If it means locking yourself in the bathroom…so be it! (If you can’t do this at night, then do it whenever you are able.) Sit yourself down in front of a mirror – it can be a hand mirror, a dresser mirror – whatever you have. Use candles if possible, otherwise soft lighting will do. Look in the mirror. At the beginning just look at your face. Note your hair, your eyes, your lips, the shape of your eyebrows. Look at your skin. Move your head this way and that so that you can see how you look from different angles. What thoughts are you thinking as you look? Write them down so that you can look at them later.

look. What thoughts are you having? If you are able, begin to remove your clothing. What happens when you look at your naked body? What thoughts do you have? When you have finished looking, sit down and write as much as you can about your experience. We all have lumps and bumps – and the older we get, the lumpier and bumpier we seem to be! It takes a tremendous amount of will to not buy into the marketing we are faced with each and every day. There are so few images that encourage us to relax and love who we are. Whenever you have a thought that denies the truth of your body – this beautiful collection of energy that holds the essence of you – you are instigating a small war. How is it possible to have peace in the world….when we are not even at peace with this integral aspect of us? As you proceed with the exercises this month, as you learn to be compassionate with your own body – notice how your compassion reaches out beyond you to encompass those you come into contact with. Until next month….Namasté

Gail Siler, PhD

Today is Spring Equinox, the day when the balance shifts from winter to spring. As I look outside I see a wonderful dance going on between the forces of spring and winter. The wind is blowing, clouds rampaging or pirouetting through the sky and the sun playing hide and seek between the clouds. Both of these forces are fully present on the dance floor, or should I say in the sky and weaving their energies through the trees and ringing the chimes outdoors. The birds are darting zig zag courses through the winds in ecstasy. What a beautiful dance! Today the balance changes in the weather energies on planet earth. And that’s not all.

www.nourishpublication.com

April 2013

22

We have launched a new agenda. That agenda is to return to balance as a human people. But did you realize that just as the energy of winter has peaked and spring now takes over, so it is with humans The energy of the left brain, yang and masculine principles are now stepping back and calling on their partner, right brain, yin, the feminine principle to step up and lead this part of the universal dance.

Butterfly Woman speaks: Yes, fellow travellers, it’s

time for us to set our feet to the pavement and walk in the knowledge that we have supressed for eons. We are entering new ground and this time, we are called upon to lead the change. And how do we lead in a world that’s left brain (yang energy) dominated? It’s easy. Yes, it’s easy. (Who do you think gave the business store the EZ Button, anyhow?) The trick is we change the world by changing ourselves.

Yep, it’s our turn to lead. And the challenge of returning the millennia’s energy to balance falls on our shoulders now. Who am I referring to as ‘our shoulders?’ Women for starters, (and men with their right brain aspects awakened.) We are at the moment the yin representatives and that means we carry more right brain awareness as women than the majority of men. We don’t get - nor do we need Mr. Clean to help us clean this one up! It’s our job now to show leadership. We do get the Empress of the Universe or the feminine yin principle - the Goddess of Creation herself, as our guidance. Now we become the dance partners who lead this part of the dance. We lead by rebalancing ourselves The other day I went shopping with my friend Val and came home with three pairs of recycled, really comfortable shoes. I was thrilled. Then this morning the light dawned inside my head. Uh oh, they were comfortable shoes, the kind you wear when you have a lot of walking to do. Something’s up, I know it! Gulp! Yep, it was Butterfly Woman’s segue into this article. She’s as subtle as, well, three pairs of comfortable walking shoes! Butterfly is the Empress’ earth level assistant you might say. Since Butterfly Woman got me into this, along with my shoes (thank you), I’m going to let her tell you directly what she has to say on the subject of walking forward.

www.nourishpublication.com

And that is exactly how we show leadership now as well. We shift the balance when we change ourselves and our own behaviours. No battles, no campaigns, no struggles…..well, only our own if we want to do battle with our inner selves. But by now most of us have realized the futility and time wasting energy of it. It’s time to unbend and stand tall. We aren’t broken and we don’t need to be fixed, but we ARE bent We aren’t broken and we don’t need to be fixed. But, we have to straighten up our spines and before we do that we must realize we are bent. Like a tree growing around a large boulder, our feminine energies, our right brains, our yin energies have been warped and bent so far to one side that if the rock were removed, we would topple. At the same time our yang or masculine or left brain energies have become the accepted and sanctioned way of processing the world. As a culture we are left brain dominated. Yes, women as well as men! So we have adapted to the yang use of energy and qualities. We have allowed ourselves to believe that only yang is the right way to view the world: incremental linear actions in isolation ignoring the importance of the ripples across the globe or in our families that these actions cause. We have learned to do things even if they are at the expense of others - be it other genders, races or species.

April 2013

(Continued on page 24)

23

(Continued from page 23)

That’s the yang way of focusing on the target without looking at the bigger picture. So people are hurt, caught up and mangled in choices that are made without this purview. A view, which I hasten to add, comes from using our right brain and seeing the whole picture, the consequences of actions and how the pieces fit onto the puzzle board. In our bent-ness, we have come to internalize as women that something is not right with us. We aren’t good enough, we can’t do things as well as men, we aren’t (supposed to be) powerful, we aren’t as important as men, who are society’s historic and still present representative yang energies. Our yang-masculine tree, however, is just as bent as the feminine tree. Men see themselves as more important and more valuable than women and better decision makers, providers, leaders. And in their imbalance they seldom solve problems effectively; instead they make war on problems. Lacking the circular energy of the feminine, they aggress forward as much attacking a problem as their way of ‘solving’ it. Our yang energy dominance is missing the big picture component. Without it we as humanity get into situations that might have been resolved easily if there were ‘talk time’ made available to the parties involved and the players in the scenario were equally considered before decisions were made. How many women, in any part of the world, for example, have been asked if we should war amongst our fellow humans? You know the answer to that! And despite that, it is we who suffer the most, next to the soldiers in the trenches? Balance begins within As humans whether we are male or female, we are bent. But it goes further, we are also bent deep within our inner selves. And this is where the change now begins. First we balance within ourselves, and learn to respect our inner feminine/yin energies as well as our inner masculine/yang energies. As humans we return to our original power only when we achieve that balance between yin and yang energies.

www.nourishpublication.com

That is our first priority. From that rebalancing all other balance will flow. Yes, we will create societies that thrive with freedom, bliss, joy and love. Our actions now are taken to realign our energies so we can flow strongly in our feminine, yin energy and in doing that we also help to correct the imbalance in the dominant yang, warrior, competitive energies that have been ruling the worlds, governments and nearly all forms in our cultures, even religions, television programming and advertising. Now, do you see the importance of having comfortable walking shoes? It’s time to walk our awareness into reality, our wisdom into society. Neither bird, nor butterfly, nor airplane can fly with just one wing. It’s the same for the human species. So it’s time to put on your walking shoes and start walking that wisdom you inherently know into our society. When we are balanced within we can fly and become free of the game, the box that has closed us down to tiny little bent beings. When we come together, yin with yang in our societies, we are flying with both our wings and we also will begin to truly prosper in a way that everyone is a winner. APRıL 2013 BY TAMıRA WWW.SıLVERDıSC.CA Mercury – our planet of communication and intellect – aka ‘The Trickster’ – continues to move through Pisces. O’boy he certainly created havoc with our schedules, computers, electrical equipment and even our cars while in Pisces; I have had reports of mishaps all month (including my own). Finally Mercury moves into Aries on the 14th of April. We saw a lot of people walking around in a fog with that line up, but we will see a completely different type of thinking and action when Mercury joins the Sun / Uranus/ Venus/ and Mars in Aries. Get ready to rummmmbllllle (in a good way of course)! This next month shows some of the more difficult energy returning to our radar – similar to what we had in the fall of 2012. But there are both difficult and wondrous healing aspects that will be in play – we might even find a few grains of sand in our shoe that we need to stop and shake out before proceeding (better deal with it or it will turn into a huge blister). Meditate and/or journal regularly – center often, and take time out to adjust … adaptability is the key to success.

For some the collective energy hits closer to home as these planetary actions directly involve the personal birth map, for others not directly affected … support the ones you love that are struggling with the energetic signature! New and Full Moons – it is important to step outdoors and connect to the night sky, when we do this we inherently connect to this energy helping us recognize genetic and collective habits and patterns.

The transiting New Moon in Aries on April 1 0 th The Collective New Moon – This is one of the most passionate and energized New Moons I have seen in a while. Remember the New Moon is when we are in complete darkness so it is difficult to see the path ahead. You will need to use your intuition to navigate, and use focused passion in

order to channel this energy productively. You may find that power and control issues start coming out of the shadows and affecting you on the home front. This type of confrontation may give you an indication of how much you have worked on your own control issues. Ask yourself: Have I embraced my Power? Am I using my Power wisely? Do I have a balanced sense of Power? You will know the answers immediately, simply by your re-action when you are challenged in these ways – remember it is all in the choices you make. Don’t listen to that negative chatty everyday mind … dig a little deeper … stay centered and tight to your core until the next New Moon. Go ahead set some lofty goals.

The transiting Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio on April 25 th

This Full moon Lunar Eclipse may just frustrate us a little bit. The Eclipses last at least 6 months and can have a big impact on your personal life only when it has a tight contact to your natal chart directly. We just finished this really exciting New Moon full of passion, excitement and energy, where the focus was on trusting our instincts and diving into new things – even if we could not see where we were going to end up. All of a sudden the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse hits our night sky and the light gets turned on, all those wonderful details we missed suddenly start to glow. We can finally slow to a crawl … literally the dust begins to settle, and we notice the roses … so we stop to smell them. This will provide time to adjust, plan and complete our projects. It is the Turtle (Eclipse) and the Hare (New Moon) syndrome. We will get there; we just need to slow down so that we can see all the beauty in this extraordinary world we live in, that we are charging past to get to the finish line. Take the time to set up new patterns and habits to ensure success of the goals you set during the explosive New Moon.

As we get closer into spring, we see a natural state of bloom on the trees. For those of us who live here in Vancouver, we see the cherry blossoms that line the trees and put smiles on our faces. The energy of spring is audible to us all. We see more people out; there is gentleness to the energy and a spring in everyone’s step. This month, I chose to relate our health to our true nature. Most people (especially those probably reading this magazine) believe that they are healthy, well and special inside. Everyone has a magical, beautiful, amazing, loving, divine creature inside of their body and mind that really encapsulate who they truly are. Despite this, we seem to be bogged down by illness, disease, and the fear of sickness and the never ending reminder of pharmaceuticals that are here to help us. This article and my teachings are never about being anti-drugs, but are more about being pro–us. I have always believed that there is a real role for medications in our society but every day that I work as a medical doctor, I start to wonder if we are overusing them. I am now starting to realize that maybe it is not so much that we are over-using them as much as we may have no idea that we can live comfortably without them. And, if that is the case - that we can function off of these drugs, then it must mean that there is a healthy version of us inside of us. The question that always beckons here is – how do we ever find that healthy version? Is it in the oil of oregano? Is it in the vitamins? Is it in the organic food? No, I am not knocking or discounting the benefits of any of these products, but I am just asking you to ask yourself if this is what your belief system is. I personally believe that all of these things, including pharmaceuticals, can be helpful, but the ultimate true source of our health and happiness is inside of each of us. Our role and our goal in our lives is to find it. We are on a journey to look for it inside of ourselves. It is the space inside of us that loves, is joyful, glowing, happy, playful and fun. Remember that child in you – that is where it is. Many times in my work as an intuitive healer, I work with clients teaching those step by step ways of getting back to that space. I guide them on releasing their anger, their fears and their doubts. I encourage them to spend more time in that magical, creative, intuitive space that is truly who they are. I ask them to look at themselves in deeper ways than they may have ever in their lives. I always give my clients homework. Perhaps their homework is to go to the park and swing on the swings and go down the slide. Or, it is to look in the mirror daily and realize their true amazing, magical character. And in yet other examples it is to sit in meditation and to listen to their own inner voice. Regardless of what the steps are, there are steps for each of us to wake up that inner voice of truth. Some of you, I am sure, if not all, are on this wonderful journey. We never get there and are never done (until we die) but we are always in joy and amazement at the journey. As we step into Spring of 2013, allow your truth, your inner child, your laughing, joyful exuberant you to manifest. Have fun with the cherry blossoms. Walk on the beach barefoot and laugh till you start to tear up. Happy healthy Spring everyone!

In this month of April lion has come forward to share wisdom with you. There is a Roar to begin. Lion is sharing this wisdom as she prowls and stalks up with a mighty pounce into the air and then a dead run: “My message to you is this:

Be Strong!! Be courageous!!K now your strength and like me stand tall and proud .Pounce on your dreams with all you might .Meet any challenge with strength, courage and fortitude. Roar your unique and special voice .Let your voice be heard!! What you have to say is important to you and the world. Others will listen that need your wisdom and love. Be playful for not everything needs to be so serious. Sometimes you just need to lounge in the sun like me and enjoy the moment. You are strong. You are courageous. Also remember to work together for the greatest good of all your family, community and the world because like us you are part of a global pride. Like with all prides co-operation is essential for the survival of all.” On a final note don’t be afraid to stand in the sun of your own power. If need be roar a mighty roar if you feel the need because you are being threatened or intruded upon. So my friends this is me signing off for this month to stand in the sun of my own power. My hope for you this month is that you do the same and find joy in doing so. Unfathomable love Michelle

The Tower card from Shadowscapes Tarot Stephanie Pui-Mun Law and Barbara Moore

No matter what deck you look at, the Tower is usually depicted as a tower of some sort being struck by lightning. Some cards have people falling from the Tower. NO matter how this card is depicted, when you receive it in a reading, it signals that change is coming. Almost always the change is for the better, although if you don’t like change this card will probably cause some worry. It does not mean that the change will be painless, only that it is coming. Do not try to hold on tightly to anything when this card shows up as it could be disastrous and cause you more pain than necessary. Roll with whatever comes along. Plus, remember if you don’t like what you see in the cards you have the opportunity to change the script, as in free will. Most of the time when the Tower shows up people instantly have an idea of what the change is going to revolve around. The Tower is just validation that the time has come and gives a heads up. The choice we then have is that we can dig in our heels and try to hold off having it happen or go with the flow. Personally, I would rather go with the flow and make it as easy as possible instead of resisting and causing myself undue stress and pain. In general, the change could be, that something/someone/ or a situation that you have counted on being there, is no longer there. Trying to prevent this from happening would be like rowing upstream with a broken paddle. If the Tower shows up, it gives you a chance to change course so you are flowing in the right direction once again or “fix the paddle” so to speak. Pay attention when the Tower shows up, to what you are trying to achieve in that moment. Sometimes the card shows up to give us a heads up that the project we have been working on is just not happening. In this situation it is only a problem if you allow it to be. If you go with the flow you will see an easier fresh goal come to take its place that will be more realistic and reachable. Bottom line to remember is that nothing is insurmountable and you have all the tools you need to get through this change. Above all, if the Tower shows up in a reading for you, stay positive. As the Tower is a major arcana card, it is guided by your destiny and no matter what the change, it will be universally guided and will be for the best even if it does not appear so in the moment.

Sodalite is a beautiful indigo blue, with white streaks running through it, which are calcite veins. Sodalite gets its name from the high sodium content. It was named by Glasgow chemist, Prof. Thomas Thomson. While it was discovered in 1806 in Greenland it was not commonly used until after 1891 when vast amounts were found in Ontario Canada. I first discovered Sodalite when learning to connect with the angelic realm; I used this crystal to connect with Archangel Ariel. Other crystals are associated with Ariel but this one was easily accessible and affordable. While I loved the energy of the crystal I did not use it for very long and then it was added to my crystal bowl. Fast forward to last year and a beautiful Sodalite orb called out to me at a show, and a few weeks later I was drawn to a small raw slab. I was happy to have these additions to my collection but other than enjoying them and knowing that I was supposed to bring them home, they sat. Waiting, I suppose, until now when I was guided to use Sodalite for this article. Sodalite helps to unite the logical with the creative/spiritual. 2013 is the year of amalgamating our masculine and feminine aspects and bringing them into balance. Along with its grounding quality, Sodalite clears mental confusion and reestablishes inner peace. That is the gift of Sodalite; it strengthens the power of mind over body to bridge the gap between your thoughts and feelings or emotions. It supports the creative and the logical in equal proportions. It encourages rational thought, objectivity, truth (which is another big energy hit this year) and supports communication on all levels. Sodalite has been called the “stone of truth, not because those who carry it around would not be able to lie, but in the sense that it has the ability to clear any confusion and distinctly get to the truth of the matter. It is also an excellent crystal for intuition development. When used in meditation, Sodalite sooths the mind and body. It allows you to let go of stress that can prevent you from reaching your higher self. As you let go of these tensions, it becomes easier to see where your thoughts, ideas, fears, and worries are causing negative imbalances. From this place of being grounded and free of stress, you can then identify areas in your life that need work. Since Sodalite is the stone for balance and truth, it helps you to understand the tremendous physical and emotional impact these changes can bring to your life. One of Sodalite’s functions is to calm the emotions and the mind to help one view a situation with objectivity and detachment. Using Sodalite with this in mind, we can use it as a tool to help process our shadow work, and free ourselves from old patterns that no longer serve us. As an added bonus Sodalite enhances self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-trust. From a physical standpoint, Sodalite balances the metabolism, boosts the immune system and overcomes calcium deficiencies. It combats radiation damage by soaking up electromagnetic smog. Sodalite treats the throat, vocal cords, larynx and helps with hoarseness and digestive disorders. It cools fevers, lowers blood pressure and stimulates the absorption of body fluids. Sodalite can also help to prevent insomnia. Sodalite is a great crystal to have in your collection. Carrying a small piece with you each day could be very beneficial. At the very least it would help you to stay emotionally balanced, calm, and able to verbalize your thoughts and feelings from your inner truth.
