As technology continues to advance, and as schools and students become increasingly more dependent on internetready devices, cybercrime is becoming more difficult to both deal with, and avoid.

A: Malware is short for malicious software, and refers to any software that is used to disrupt computer operations, gather sensitive information, gain access to private computer systems, or display unwanted advertising. Q: What can I do? A: There are generally two broad strategies used by criminals to try and break through a computer’s defences:

Never plug in a USB/ Flashdrive from an unknown source USB sticks and flashdrives are a common means of virus infection, however if you do not connect the device to your computer it has no way of transmitting a virus. This also applies to a USB stick that you may have connected to a home computers. If you suspect that your machine has been infected with a virus or malware, simply disconnect your device from the network either by turning off the Wi-Fi and/or unplugging the network cable and seek IT support. Sir John Heron Primary School Win the Outstanding Citizenship School Award Sir John Heron Primary School
We are very proud to announce that Sir John Heron Primary School are the first ever winners of the Outstanding Citizenship School award! Our current Year 4 pupils were recognised for the work they did on making people more aware of homelessness and its causes. The project was started last year as part of our work towards the ACTive Citizenship award. For the award, children had to focus
on a tackling a specific issue effecting our local community. Pupils voted to take action in addressing the issue of homelessness in our community. They knew this was a huge challenge, but it was clear to them that homelessness and rough sleeping were worrying issues they wanted to highlight in the hope that this will change in the long run. The aim of the project was to make more people aware of homelessness and its causes,

and to speak up about this. Pupils researched the causes and effects of homelessness, led a school assembly and wrote to the Mayor of London to share their concerns. They decided to recommend that changes be made to the school curriculum, so that mental health and financial education are given much more prominence in an attempt to prevent homelessness in the future. Our pupils’ passion for making a positive change in their community was recognised and they were awarded with the Outstanding Citizenship award. A representative from Year 4 and a staff member went to the Palace of Westminster to receive the award at a prestigious ceremony attended by many notable figures including the Rt Hon. The Lord Blunkett and Pussycat Doll band member Kimberly Wyatt!

Outstanding Ofsted Result for Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Children’s Centre Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Children’s Centre Following an Ofsted Inspection carried out by Her Majesty’s Inspectors on the 3rd-4th October, Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Children’s Centre in Stratford, East London, was judged as “outstanding”. In their report, inspectors commented on the Nursery’s “wonderful engaging activities,” “vibrant indoor and outdoor spaces,” and described the school as “an oasis of calm, purposeful learning” where “children learn the importance of doing their very best.” In the Ofsted school inspection framework, schools are judged on four categories: the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. The school was judged as demonstrating outstanding practice in all four areas. Rebecca Cheetham is a nursery school that caters for 2, 3 and 4 year old children. The School also has a Children’s Centre that offers a range of different activities for people in the local community. The school works in close partnership with The Tapscott Learning Trust and Newham Nursery Schools. Following the inspection, Head Teacher Rohan Allen said, ““I can safely say that the team of staff at Rebecca Cheetham are some of the most committed, dedicated and caring people I have worked with. They have a real love for the school and that makes all the difference when we get

that Ofsted call.” “We don’t feel like we need to prepare for an Ofsted inspection as we are always prepared. We know how to look out for and protect our children. And we know our children as the unique individuals they are and how to help them in their next steps in their learning.” During the two day inspection, Her Majesty’s Inspectors met with the headteacher, members of the senior leadership team, staff, governors and children, as well as interrogating documentation and observing activities and learning in books. In their findings, the inspectors noted that, “No sense of complacency exists at the school, and all are firmly committed to the school’s motto of ‘Forging forces to give children the best start in life’.

Many of our children have severe learning difficulties and require support with all aspects of their day including eating, drinking and using the toilet. Teaching assistants support the children to access learning at their own level, following a personalised plan. The role is a challenging but rewarding one.
