LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR LIFE SAVING INSTRUCTOR
Lifesaving Instructors are trained to teach the three Canadian Swim Patrol Program awards, as well as the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Fitness, and Distinction awards. Candidates are trained in and must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and attitudes at Competency Level 1 to include all aspects of learning as well as various approaches required to teach water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills in the Canadian Lifesaving Program. Candidates also learn about long-range and short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation.

LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION
Lifesaving Instructors must recertify every two years to remain current. Candidates must bring proof of prerequisite certifications to the first class.
CPR C / AED
Prerequisites: 1) LSI (current within 10 years of certification/ recertification date). 2) COVID-19 Instructor Update online.
CPR C teaches participants the current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) practices and choking procedures for adults, children, and infants. CPR C is required for lifeguards, medical personnel and paramedics, but is ideal for anyone to have. This course is current for three years and includes Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.

This is the first step in the Canadian Red Cross Swim Instructor Development Program. Step 1 involves: a swim stroke and water safety skills screening, online modules, and a teaching practicum (8-10 hours). The swim stroke and water safety skills screening is designed to ensure candidates can swim to a Red Cross Swim Kids Level 10 standard and will include an evaluation (evaluation dates listed below). All online and teaching practicum components will be explained in detail at the screening session. Prerequisites: 1) 15 years of age by the first day of the course 2) Bronze Cross. It is recommended that Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross are current for success in this course.
