CLIFF BENNETT & THE REBEL ROUSERS

SPIRIT OF THE DANCE

WITH SUPPORT FROM FOLK ROCKER JESSICA LEE MORGAN Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers were the first London band to be signed by The Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein. Their innovative brass sound introduced British youth to soul music. Within three months of Epstein’s management, the band had their first UK hit single with One Way Love, and a tour of Germany with The Beatles. In addition they were the first British band to be signed to the Motown label. Cliff crowned his success with The Rebel Rousers in 1966 with a song written exclusively for him by Lennon & McCartney - Got To Get You Into My Life which reached No. 3 in the UK charts, creating a unique British soul sound. Their other hits include: Back In The USSR, One Way Love and I’ll Take You Home.

Seen by more than thirty million people in twenty countries around the world, the International smash hit Spirit of the Dance celebrates its record-breaking twenty year anniversary as one of the most successful dance shows ever. Irish in origin and bursting with raw energy, this explosive and powerful show combines heartpounding Irish Dance with the sensual Latino rhythms of Flamenco and red hot Salsa in a thrilling production of strength and passion. This award-winning spectacular has brilliant lighting, dazzling costumes and breath-taking choreography. With thunderous applause, standing ovations and sold out crowds at every performance, Spirit of the Dance is one of the greatest dance shows ever.

THE YOUNG’UNS THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY LONGSTAFF Three time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners The Young’uns present a new and unique piece of modern folk theatre. The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff is the story of one man’s adventure from begging on the streets in the North of England to fighting against fascism in the Spanish Civil War, taking in the Hunger Marches and the Battle of Cable Street.

How Sweet It Is has been drawing audiences for over 18 years like no other touring Motown Show. Its magic lies in how these guys make you all feel you’re at the best party in town.

It’s a timely, touching and often hilarious musical adventure following the footsteps of one working class hero who witnessed some of the momentous events of the 1930s. With their trademark harmony, honesty and humour the Teesside trio bring together 16 specially composed songs, spoken word, striking imagery and the real recorded voice of Johnny himself to tell a remarkable human story oozing with modern relevance.

“The harmonies are glorious, the wit is waspish. The songs are powerful, the banter is relentless and the audience is happy. What’s not to like?”

It truly is the ultimate celebration of the sweet sound of Motown. A stunning 100% live show with first class music from this amazing band, plus slick choreography. You’ll be ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’, with songs from legendary artistes such as Lionel Richie, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five, The Isley Brothers, Edwin Starr and many more. SETH LAKEMAN

THE KING IS BACK

Seth Lakeman takes a break from the Robert Plant musical juggernaut in Autumn 2018 to release his ninth studio album The Well Worn Path and heads back out touring around the UK with a new band line-up.

Ben Portsmouth, a multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter had Elvis's DNA in his blood from an early age. His father was an avid Elvis fan and Ben grew up on a diet of Elvis songs. He looks like Elvis, sings like Elvis and has an on-stage charisma that has audiences believing at times they are watching the King himself. Internationally renowned as one, if not The Best Elvis Tribute in the world today, Ben Portsmouth will bring his unique style and charisma and will show audiences why he is regarded as the best in the business. Please note due to the nature of this event there may be some occasions during the show when some patrons choose to stand.

The charismatic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist found time at the beginning of the year, in between charging around the globe with Robert Plant and his band, the Sensational Space Shifters, to record a new studio album. It’s a return to a no-nonsense, organic, classic folk-rock approach with hints of Fairport Convention, Neil Young, Nick Cave and Billy Bragg - plus Lakeman’s trademark foot-stomping, fiddle bow-shredding and soaring vocals. Seth brought in top producer Ben Hillier and along with long-time collaborator Ben Nicholls on upright and electric bass, he was joined by new boys Kit Hawes on electric and acoustic guitar and drummer Evan Jenkins. BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Seth Lakeman’s previous albums include Mercury Prize nominated Kitty Jay and the gold-selling Freedom Fields.

EVERYBODY DANCE Hundreds of talented and enthusiastic local children, teenagers and adults join together to perform in an exciting variety dance, music and singing spectacular. Come and watch the stars of the future! Tickets on sale from Saturday 1st December 2018.

The 60s group Manfred Mann is now considered, more than ever, one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. Their numerous hits were R&B based with an undercurrent of jazz - a very unusual but winning combination of playing style and substance. As a result, their records have a timeless quality and, some fifty-five years on, The Manfreds, with original front man, Paul Jones, will be performing many of their hits, including Do Wah Diddy Diddy, one of the most popular and instantly recognisable songs of the 60s, and still the biggest audience pleaser at their concerts, along with a mix of Jazz and Blues covers and tracks from their individual solo albums.

Renowned for an endless string of soulful yet socially aware hits... Forgotten Town, Ideal World, Born Again, Harvest for the World, Whats in a Word, Hooverville, Words, Father, The Bottle and many more, The Christians enjoyed huge acclaim in the late 80s and early 90s both in the UK and Europe and often confused people with their band name (in fact just the brothers surname with absolutely no religious connotation!). Still headed by enigmatic lead singer Garry Christian the band are enjoying a revival currently touring successfully in the UK and Europe. Please note due to the nature of this event there may be some occasions during the show when some patrons choose to stand.

NISH KUMAR: IT’S YOUR NATURE TO DESTROY YOURSELVES

YAOS PRESENT

42nd Street is the song and dance, American dream fable of Broadway. Based on the 1932 novel by Bradford Ropes, 42nd Street tells of the great director Julian Marsh and his upcoming production of the musical Pretty Lady. With a classic score of musical theatre standards including We’re in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway and 42nd Street, this heart-warming musical provides exceptional tap routines and classic comedy. A must-see for all music and dance lovers alike!

Double Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee Nish Kumar is taking his brand new show on a nationwide tour of the UK! The title is a quote from Terminator 2. There will be jokes about politics, mankind’s capacity for selfdestruction and whether it will lead to the end of days. GOOD FUN STUFF! He’s the host of the Mash Report which you might have seen on BBC 2, or on a Facebook video posted by someone you went to school with but haven’t spoken to in a while.

“One of the best young comedians we have.” The Times

“A very clever boy.” Nish Kumar This performance may contain adult material that some might find offensive.

Music by Harry Warren. SIMON YATES MY MOUNTAIN LIFE TOUR

MARK STEEL EVERY LITTLE THING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT

One of the most accomplished exploratory mountaineers of all time. Simon Yates is best known for his role in the harrowing expedition to the Andes documented in Joe Simpson’s bestseller Touching The Void. Following that experience in Peru, Simon has been increasingly drawn to places where few others have trod.

A few years ago, it seemed unlikely that the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn’t going to beat Hillary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal, since then it’s all gone to pot! But don’t worry as Mark thinks Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright.

This illustrated lecture features spectacular images and film of the most remote and rarely explored mountain ranges of the world from the Arctic to the Antarctic and Alaska to Central Asia - There is hardly a significant range that Simon has not visited.

Mark’s sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of Radio 4’s Mark Steel’s in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year is touring a show which is guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is. Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s The News Quiz. He’s also appeared on BBC2’s QI and Room 101. This performance may contain adult material that some might find offensive.

THE UNRAVELLING WILBURYS A tribute to The Traveling Wilburys and their rock legend members. Just when they were about to make it to the big time, this band of good ol’ boys from Nashville, Tennessee had a whole bunch of songs (allegedly) stolen by Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, under the late 80s ‘supergroup’ pseudonym The Traveling Wilburys. Things were so bad after that, the real Wilbury brothers (Walter, Sticky Willy, Thumper, Javelin and Blind Melon) resorted to dressing up as The Beatles, and spent over 20 years touring as Sgt Pepper’s Only Dart Board Band. After a lengthy legal battle, a Hazzard County judge ruled the boys could get back their true identity and hit the highway with all their old songs including: Handle With Care, The End Of The Line, The Devil’s Been Busy, Tweeter and The Monkey Man, and by way of compensation, solo choice cuts: Pretty Woman, You’ve Got I, Mr Blue Sky, Evil Woman, Mr Tambourine Man, Lay Lady Lay, Running Down A Dream, I Won’t Back Down, What Is Life, Here Comes The Sun, Runaway and many other great songs.

In August 2007 the Band were invited to take part in the BBC Promenade Concerts, at the Royal Albert Hall, London

MOTIONHOUSE CHARGE Electrifying Dance-Circus from Motionhouse Inspired by the role of electricity in the human body, Motionhouse’s exhilarating new multi-media show Charge is about energy. From the electrical charge that sparks human life, to the beating of our hearts and the memories we make, six performers use dance and acrobatics to delve deep into the human body, tracing the incredible story of energy in our lives. Digital projections create a world on stage where dancers and images interact seamlessly, bringing to life stories of energy in our own bodies and humans as energy manipulators. In an exciting fusion of art and science, Motionhouse has worked with partners from the University of Oxford on the role of electricity in the human body to inspire the show. Charge is the third element of Kevin Finnan’s Earth Trilogy, developing on themes explored in Scattered (2009) and Broken (2013) about our relationship with water and the Earth.
