SIMON YATES MY MOUNTAIN LIFE TOUR

MARK STEEL EVERY LITTLE THING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT A few years ago, it seemed unlikely that the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn’t going to beat Hillary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal. Since then it’s all gone to pot! But don’t worry as Mark thinks Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright.

One of the most accomplished exploratory mountaineers of all time. Simon Yates is best known for his role in the harrowing expedition to the Andes documented in Joe Simpson’s bestseller Touching The Void. Following that experience in Peru, Simon has been increasingly drawn to places where few others have trod. This illustrated lecture features spectacular images and film of the most remote and rarely explored mountain ranges of the world from the Arctic to the Antarctic and Alaska to Central Asia - There is hardly a significant range that Simon has not visited.

Mark’s sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of Radio 4’s Mark Steel’s in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year is touring a show which is guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is. Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC Two, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s The News Quiz. He’s also appeared on BBC Two’s QI and Room 101. This performance may contain adult material that some might find offensive.

THE UNRAVELLING WILBURYS A tribute to The Traveling Wilburys and their rock legend members. Just when they were about to make it to the big time, this band of good ol’ boys from Nashville, Tennessee had a whole bunch of songs (allegedly) stolen by Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, under the late 80s ‘supergroup’ pseudonym The Traveling Wilburys. Things were so bad after that, the real Wilbury brothers (Walter, Sticky Willy, Thumper, Javelin and Blind Melon) resorted to dressing up as The Beatles, and spent over 20 years touring as Sgt Pepper’s Only Dart Board Band. After a lengthy legal battle, a Hazzard County judge ruled the boys could get back their true identity and hit the highway with all their old songs including: Handle With Care, The End Of The Line, The Devil’s Been Busy, Tweeter and The Monkey Man, and by way of compensation, solo choice cuts: Pretty Woman, You’ve Got I, Mr Blue Sky, Evil Woman, Mr Tambourine Man, Lay Lady Lay, Running Down A Dream, I Won’t Back Down, What Is Life, Here Comes The Sun, Runaway and many other great songs.

In August 2007 the Band were invited to take part in the BBC Promenade Concerts, at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

RICH HALL’S HOEDOWN

MOTIV8 PRESENT:

Rich Hall’s critically acclaimed new show begins its second leg of touring. There has never been a better time to be an American comedian in the UK. Hall’s precision dismantling of the tenuous relationship between two countries is as freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever. His BBC Four documentaries, most recently Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You and Rich Hall’s Presidential Grudge Match and BBC Radio 4 series Rich Hall’s (US Election) Breakdown have built him a new legion of followers, as has appearances on Have I Got News For You and QI. But if you’ve only ever seen Hall on TV, you’ve short-changed yourself.

Motiv8 Productions of Yeovil were the very first UK amateur group to perform this show in 2015 with 4 sell-outs and standing ovations every night. A child’s train set magically comes to life and the various engines compete to become the Fastest - engine in the World! The underdog, Rusty the Steam train, has little chance until he is inspired by the legend of the Starlight Express and ultimately defeats his arch-rivals Greaseball and Electra before going on to win the hand of the lovely first class coach, Pearl.

HENNING WEHN: GET ON WITH IT You couldn’t make it up; surely the German Comedy Ambassador Henning Wehn hasn’t bosched out yet another new show? And what’s he still doing here anyway? Well, his lack of transferable skills is what keeps him here and his belief that practise makes perfect is what keeps him going. This show is a much needed call to arms. Listen, everyone: stop pondering and hand-wringing. Instead get on your bike and put your face to the grindstone! In this outrageously camp new show, (that he was going to call Bed Knobs and Knee Pads but was advised might not sell too well in Harrogate), renowned homosexual Julian Clary will bare his soul as never before in the interests of light entertainment. He’ll murder some well known songs along the way, no doubt, read you a sneak preview from his next memoir A Night At the Lubricant and make withering remarks about punters foolish enough to sit in the front row. You know the kind of thing. It’s the only life he knows. Don’t miss out.

ARMONICO CONSORT PRESENT

BEOWULF In a legendary time of heroes and warriors, Prince Beowulf battles demons and magical beasts. The oldest surviving poem in Old English, Beowulf is a fantasy saga which has inspired countless retellings of the myth, including Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Having formerly worked with the likes of Duran Duran and The Rolling Stones, Armonico Consort’s composer-in-residence Toby Young (former BBC Proms Young Composer of the Year) has set this touching epic drama to music. Written for soprano, choir, harp, keyboards and children’s choir, with strong folk-pop influences, and a gripping script from one of the authors of Have I Got News For You, Beowulf will entertain the whole family.
