ARMONICO CONSORT: Classical BACH MASS CONCERT SERIES IN B MINOR ARMONICO CONSORT & BAROQUE ORCHESTRA Director: CHRISTOPHER MONKS Soprano: ELIN MANAHAN THOMAS It could be argued that the work should have been titled ‘Bach’s Greatest Hits’, for that is what Bach himself aimed to achieve with this masterpiece. Composed over the final 25 years of his life and completed just one year before he died, the Mass in B Minor is scattered with music and references that Bach considered to be his best work. For a composer who wrote so ferociously throughout his life to take such care over this work is a testament as to why musicians simply adore performing it.

FASCINATING AÏDA They’re back at last! Dillie Keane, Adèle Anderson and Liza Pulman are heading out on tour. With a selection of old favourites, songs you haven’t heard before and some you wish you’d never heard in the first place. The songs are hilarious and topical - the glamour is unstoppable. With three Olivier Award nominations and over 25 million YouTube and Facebook hits for Cheap Flights and their incredibly rude Christmas song, how can you possibly miss them?

We offer a range of classes including: Musical Theatre Performance, The Octagon Choir, The Octagon Tappers, Toddler and Pre-School Ballet, Street, Lyrical, Commercial and Contemporay Dance, Latin Fit, Pilates, Pure Drama, Castaway Theatre Group and The Somerset Youth Theatre. Classes are based across our two venues The Octagon Theatre and Westlands Entertainment Venue. Most classes run term-time with some classes continuing through the school holidays. Participants in our classes perform regularly both at The Octagon Theatre and other events. For the full class timetable and further details please visit our website: octagon-theatre.co.uk/octagon-academy

We want to get more boys dancing. Dance will help boys build confidence, resilience, focus and motivation. Attending regular dance classes will support them in developing social skills, friendship groups, a healthy physical and mental wellbeing, and simply make them feel happy and more engaged with learning. Dance for boys has wide reaching benefits.

At the Octagon Theatre we are developing a Youth Dance Company which will teach both girls and boys various dance styles and choreographic techniques. Dancers will devise, create and receive multiple opportunities to perform across South Somerset. Throughout the year dancers will work with professional dance companies, have exclusive access to rehearsals, and get the opportunity to meet artists at private events.

The company is open to boys aged 6-14. Classes will be highly physical, fun and most importantly creative. We want to help boys find their own creative voices and collective strength. Throughout the year dancers will work with professional dance companies, have exclusive access to rehearsals, and get to meet artists at private events.

Our Youth Dance Company is open to talented, committed, enthusiastic and motivated dancers aged 12-18. Prior dance experience is desirable; however we encourage dancers of all backgrounds to have a go as we are looking for dancers with natural flair and creativity. To join, budding dancers will be asked to attend an audition workshop. Auditions will be held annually, keep an eye on our website for more information.

For further information on our Dance Companies please contact: Gemma.gubb@southsomerset.gov.uk
