WE ARE NOW WELL INTO OUR PILOT JOURNEY WITH STRIKE A CHORD THE EXCITING NEW OCTAGON MUSIC PROJECT LED BY CHARLES HAZLEWOOD AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA, ONE OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS. Take a look at our web pages to discover the story so far and what we have in store leading up to the big day on 7th June, when we welcome the full Philharmonia Orchestra to perform at The Octagon. This landmark date will represent the first time a London-based world-class symphony orchestra performs at The Octagon. Members of the Philharmonia Orchestra have been visiting schools around our district and performing in assemblies, giving workshops and supporting teachers to inspire children with music. “We are incredibly excited about this project and bringing world class artists to South Somerset. Seeing The Philharmonia on our stage under the baton of Charles Hazlewood will be a dream come true and introducing a new generation of children to the wonder of live classical music is a privilege.”

“I welcome the possibility of creating a Music residency in South Somerset, a fresh concept for young people to explore sound, born from the source of a symphony orchestra, none other than music royalty, The Philharmonia. With an authentic commitment to the Arts, The Octagon is the most exciting venue in the region to offer opportunities for development and experimentation, with a growing concert-going public eager for premiere class performance.” CONDUCTOR, CHARLES HAZLEWOOD

Our aspiration is ambitious and we have plans to develop Strike A Chord! further and for more people to benefit from the project. Please visit The Octagon Theatre website for more details and to discover the exciting ways you can be involved now and in the future!

LA BOHÈME BY PUCCINI

SWANSEA CITY OPERA

PRE SHOW TALK

Sung in English. It’s Christmas Eve in Paris. A young poet, an artist and a philosopher are celebrating in their flat. Then comes a knock at the door, a lost key and an accidental touch of cold hands in the dark, and so begins one of the greatest romances of all opera. From the irrepressible joy of their burgeoning love affair through to the unbearable heartbreak at their separation by death, only the stoniest of hearts could fail to be moved by this timeless story. We are delighted to welcome back the critically acclaimed Swansea City Opera, who are setting their production of La Bohème in war torn 1940’s Paris. Sung in English and accompanied by chamber orchestra, don’t miss this opportunity to hear Puccini’s shimmering concoction of soaring vocal lines and lush orchestral melodies. Famous arias include Che gelida manina/Your tiny hand is frozen and Mi chiamano Mimì/They call me Mimì.

“Swansea City Opera delivered an opera that punched well above their size, which was atmospheric, inventive and most importantly, entertaining.” South Wales Evening Post There will be a pre-performance talk about the opera and production at 6.15pm, given by the Artistic Director of Swansea City Opera, Brendan Wheatley.

“The cleverest murder mystery of British Theatre” The Telegraph

“A truly entertaining classic thriller” The Sunday Times

The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre, with over 25,000 performances. Enjoy this once in a life-time opportunity to see this masterpiece here at The Octagon Theatre, starring Louise Jameson (Doctor Who, EastEnders, Doc Martin) as Mrs Boyle. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst.

Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner. www.MousetrapOnTour.com

Starring Belinda Davids. The ultimate tribute show. No film has captured the hearts of a generation like Dirty Dancing. Relive the passion, indulge in the romance and celebrate the greatest movie soundtrack of all time. Recast and re-scripted for 2016, it’s all down to Kellerman’s end of season show. Revel in the moments you loved, the memories you made and music that’s resonated throughout the years: She’s Like the Wind, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Hey Baby, Wipeout, Do You Love Me, Be My Baby, Hungry Eyes and, of course, the Oscarwinning (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life. Don’t be the one sitting in the corner. Immerse yourself in the timeless, theatrical treat. Take a trip back to the summer of ’63, relive Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey’s sizzling performance in the ultimate coming of age romance.

This breathtaking production, featuring the impeccable vocal talents of South Africa’s Belinda Davids, is a beautifully crafted tribute to one of the world’s most revered singers. Accompanied by a full band and dancers, Davids performs over two hours of Whitney Houston’s best loved pop hits live on stage. And there is no person better equipped to do so. In addition to having a voice described as “jaw-droppingly similar” to the pop diva, Davids openly acknowledges that Houston is her personal idol and was the original inspiration for her own career when she began singing at the age of 14. “I want people to come and remember Whitney when she was at the top of her game and when she was fabulous” says Davids.

Please note this show is not affiliated with ‘Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage’ currently on tour in the UK and worldwide.

The show includes 20 of Houston’s most popular tracks taken from the full span of her career, including I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Didn’t We Almost Have It All, I’m Every Woman, Exhale (Shoop Shoop), Million Dollar Bill and more.

Real Women, Real Lives.

It’s a women thing, as five very different women struggle hilariously to conquer pole dancing for an event to raise awareness and money for a breast cancer charity. The Naked Truth is a poignant and uplifting comedy, a call to all women, and celebrating strength through adversity. It’s a show for women, about women, that men absolutely must see (if they dare!).

Tailor-made for women, The Naked Truth is the hit comedy play from Dave Simpson, the writer of the smash-hit comedy Girls Night Out. Now on its 6th fantastic tour, this show has had people on their feet all over the UK. Set in a pole dancing class (the latest get-fit craze) The Naked Truth is a brilliantly funny comedy about sisterhood.

This celebration of The Big O’s musical legacy is quite simply unmissable as Barry Steele takes you on this specially revamped musical journey in time. Add to the mix our fabulous friends celebrating the music of the stars who really toured and performed with Roy, and you have yourself an incredible fusion of 60’s Solid Gold Classics and 80’s contemporary musical genius from two very distinct decades. This show really will be very special, so come along and celebrate the Masters Legacy, with Barry Steele & Friends.
