Learning has never been easier. Here are the five delivery styles we offer to suit different learning needs. You’ll find these options listed in the delivery style section of each certificate listing.

FACE-TO-FACE: Learning occurs in person at a physical location. Campus locations are listed when applicable.

BLENDED: A combination of face-to-face and any type of online delivery style.

ONLINE SYNCHRONOUS: You are required to join your instructor and other students in a virtual classroom at a specific time.

ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS: Access course materials anytime. Learn on your own schedule, within a certain timeframe.

ONLINE HYBRID: A combination of online synchronous and asynchronous learning.

ONLINE

Courses that are accessible on the Internet. Instructors provide guided content and direction for completion and are available to students with questions during class times and/or office hours. Some courses run in real-time with set schedules for online participation (synchronous learning), while others can be accessed anytime based on your schedule (asynchronous learning). In both cases, the more you engage, the greater the connections you will have with the learning, your instructor and the other students in your class.

Basic Accounting Certificate

The Basic Accounting Certificate is a flexible part-time program that provides a foundational introduction to accounting for those interested in entry-level accounting employment or accounting for their own business. Understand the accounting cycle for a service business and how to manage a general ledger, prepare financial statements, periodic adjustments and year-end books. Learn customer and vendor-tracking for a merchandising business, as well as inventory concepts, sales taxes, internal cash controls and payroll preparation.

Professional development opportunities: Obtain transfer credit for the Office Administration BUAD 111: Financial Accounting I course at Okanagan College, as well as credit for specific courses within the Canadian Payroll Association Certification.

Bookkeeping Certificate

The Bookkeeping Certificate builds understanding of the complete bookkeeping cycle. Gain employable financial accounting knowledge with advanced computerized accounting software and payroll administration skills. This certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills of the complete bookkeeping cycle, from how to set up a company through the full year’s business cycle for computerized accounting systems. Students will learn a computerized accounting program, apply their knowledge to spreadsheets, plus gain an in-depth understanding of payroll administration. Courses may be taken individually.

Obtain course equivalency for specific Office Administration courses (OADM 142 and OADM 152) at Okanagan College.

Structured for the workplace, the Project Management Certificate offers instruction on the tools and techniques to manage every part of a project as well as product management software. The Advanced GIS Certificate program introduces students to the essentials of using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps and edit and manage GIS data. Learning project management, students have the opportunity to work on various projects, showcasing data collection, GIS analysis, network datasets and 3D data. In addition, more advanced topics such as raster analysis, working with 3D data and network datasets will be covered. Students will also learn how to use GPS technologies to gather data, how to perform GIS analysis, complete an in-depth study of relational databases and how databases are used within a GIS.

Employment opportunities: Graduates are prepared to work in various employment opportunities in private industry, consulting, government, First Nations and mining sectors.

Audio Engineering and Music Production Certificate

The Audio Engineering and Music Production Certificate program prepares individuals to work in a variety of technical positions such as recording arts, music, theatre, concerts, broadcasting, video and film. Students learn industry-standard skills involving the operation of both digital and analog recording, and the program also includes an element of music theory. The course content provides a foundation in the principles of hearing, sound, music, basic electronics, processing, signal flow, microphone techniques, mixing and mastering, live sound engineering and reviews current industry standards. Students will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard recording and studio systems, and music and audio experience.

Employment opportunities: Graduates are prepared for technical roles such as audio engineering and music production for recording arts, music, theatre, concerts, broadcasting, Internet, gaming video and film. AutoCAD Skills Certificate

The AutoCAD Skills Certificate program introduces students to the tools and applications of AutoCAD software used in modern building design. Emphasis will be on learning the concepts and practical uses of the program as well as developing acceptable practices for electronic file management. Concentrating on two-dimensional drafting, this program teaches the use of AutoCAD using examples of drawings from various industries. A hands-on approach emphasizing practical working techniques is applied to exercises and assignments.

Employment opportunities: Graduates are prepared for careers as drafting technologists or technicians at architecture, engineering, industrial design firms and all levels of government, or in consulting for construction, utility, resource and manufacturing companies.

Education Assistant Certificate

The Education Assistant Certificate program prepares learners to work as Education Assistants in schools as part of an educational team. Working under the instructional supervision of resource teachers, classroom teachers and school district administrators, Education Assistants support the learning and independence of children who benefit from additional assistance in meeting their educational goals. Learners are introduced to the organizational structure of schools and the role of Education Assistants in the classroom. The Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) was developed to fill a need for effective, recommended, and provincially recognized violence prevention (VP) education for all British Columbia health care workers across a range of public health care settings. BEVT 101 Battery Electric Vehicle Technology and Service

The Battery Electric Vehicle Technology and Service course prepares Automotive Service Technicians (AST) to safely diagnose and service high-voltage electric vehicles. Youth Small Engine Repair

If you are aged 12 to 16 and want to learn all about ignition, compression, starting systems, valves, timing and governors, you will want to join us on campus for the Youth Small Engine Repair course. FOUNDATION PROGRAMS

Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT)

Category M (Maintenance)

This two-year diploma program is offered in partnership with Northern Lights College (NLC) in Dawson Creek, B.C. The first three semesters of training take place at the Okanagan College Aerospace Campus in Vernon, B.C. The final semester takes place at NLC in Dawson Creek. The diploma is conferred by NLC. All curriculum and entrance requirements at Okanagan College align with the AMT program at NLC. The program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the aircraft maintenance trade and supply them with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry. The curriculum follows Transport Canada’s guidelines and, upon successful completion of the program, Transport Canada will grant graduates 18 months of experience credits toward the 48-month experience requirement for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license.

Carpenter Foundation

This 30-week program provides students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to seek employment as an apprentice carpenter in the construction industry. The program introduces students to all aspects of the trades including the use of hand tools, portable power tools and other equipment used by carpenters. Through the construction of a residential wood-frame project students are given the opportunity to work with a variety of materials used by carpenters including lumber, panel products, concrete, fasteners and hardware. The focus is on developing practical skills for the construction workplace. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive Level 1 technical training credit and 450 work-based hours of credit towards completion of the Carpenter Level 1 apprenticeship program.

Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship

This 24-week program provides students with little or no previous experience in the electrical trade with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice electrician. The program exposes the student to aspects of residential, commercial and industrial systems in this trade with a focus on developing practical skills. The curriculum follows the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development guidelines for the first year in-class components of the Electrician Apprenticeship, which includes installation procedures in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code for residential, commercial and industrial systems.

Plumbing and Piping Trades

This 25-week program takes a student with little or no previous experience in the piping trades and supplies them with the necessary skills to seek employment in industry as an apprentice Plumber, Steamfitter/Pipefitter or Sprinkler System Installer. The program exposes the students to aspects of residential, commercial and industrial piping systems in these trades with a focus on developing practical skills. The curriculum follows the British Columbia Industry Training Authority guidelines for the first year in-class components of apprenticeship training for Plumber, Steamfitter/Pipefitter and Sprinkler System Installer, which includes installation, repair and maintenance procedures in compliance with the applicable codes and standards. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive Level 1 technical training credit toward an apprenticeship in the three trades.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Foundation

This 25-week program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration industry and supply the student with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice. It also provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of installing, servicing and troubleshooting all aspects of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning/refrigeration equipment.

This 28-week program takes students with little or no previous experience in the welding trade and supplies them with the necessary skills to seek employment in this industry as an apprentice or foundation welder. The course exposes the students to many aspects of the welding trade with a focus on developing practical skills. Okanagan College Continuing Studies programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait to sign up. Courses that don’t meet the minimum number of participants may be cancelled. If a course is cancelled, we will make every effort to contact you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded or applied to another course.

OC Graduates:

CS will offer a 10% discount to all graduates from Okanagan College and Okanagan University College programs. The term ”graduate” refers to someone who has successfully completed an Okanagan College program. This discount applies to all Continuing Studies courses, with the exception of the following:

• Courses in certificate programs.

• Some general interest and part-time vocational courses may be excluded because they are contract or partnership courses.

INFORMATION DISCREPANCIES

All program information, including course/program content, length, prerequisites, start/end dates, postponements and cancellations, is subject to change without notice. Okanagan College reserves the right to correct pricing or course details at time of registration. Note: many programs are offered at more than one campus. However, not all programs are offered at all campuses.

CONTINUING STUDIES REFUND POLICY:

NON-CERTIFICATE COURSE WITHDRAWAL

Refund requests must be made at least two business days (48 hours) prior to the course start date. No refunds are issued for requests received with less than two business days’ notice. Students may withdraw by phone, e-mail, mail or in person.

Non-certificate courses with tuition fees of $500 or more will have a five business day refund policy unless an exception is made by the Director

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM WITHDRAWAL

A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to secure a seat in the program. Exception: a $600 non-refundable deposit is required for the Esthetics and Nail Technolgy Certificate program.

Students must submit a completed CSCT Certificate Request to Withdraw. Please contact CS to request this form. For all certificate programs: to be eligible for a 100% refund of tuition paid (less the $200 non-refundable deposit) the Request to Withdraw must be received no later than 10 working days prior to start date of program. Refunds are not provided after above notification periods.

Exceptions are made on compassionate grounds. In such cases a written request for refund, accompanied by appropriate documentation (i.e. medical), must be submitted prior to the end of the course or workshop.

Under no circumstances will refunds be granted for requests received after the end of a certificate program, course or workshop.

N.S.F. CHEQUES

There will be a charge of $25 for N.S.F. cheques.

CANADA TRAINING CREDIT

The Canada Training Credit is a new refundable tax credit to help Canadians with the cost of training fees. Eligible workers – those who have at least $10,000 in earnings for work (including maternity or parental leave benefits) and income below about $150,000 – between the ages of 25 and 64 would accumulate a credit balance at a rate of $250 per year, up to a lifetime training amount limit of $5,000. The credit could be used to claim a refundable tax credit for up to half of the eligible tuition and fees for taking a course or enrolling in a training program. An individual’s training amount limit would be included in the information the Canada Revenue Agency sends them each year.
