When you join the OC community and enrol in one of our classes or programs, you’re following in the footsteps of over 60,000 alumni and countless others across the Okanagan Shuswap region, since 1963. During the landscape construction component, dig deeper into plant selection, irrigation systems, installing turf grass, pest management, pruning and cultivating.

This program will equip you with the skills to combat micro-organisms and create safe and hygienic environments for patients. Carpenter Foundation This 30-week program provides students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to seek employment as an apprentice carpenter in the construction industry. The program introduces students to all aspects of the trades including the use of hand tools, portable power tools and other equipment used by carpenters.

Through the construction of a residential wood-frame project students are given the opportunity to work with a variety of materials used by carpenters including lumber, panel products, concrete, fasteners and hardware. The focus is on developing practical skills for the construction workplace. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive Level 1 technical training credit and 450 work-based-hours credit towards completion of the Carpenter Level 1 apprenticeship program.

Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship This 24-week program provides students with little or no previous experience in the electrical trade with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry as an apprentice electrician. The program exposes the student to aspects of residential, commercial and industrial systems in this trade with a focus on developing practical skills. The curriculum follows the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development guidelines for the first year in-class components of the Electrician Apprenticeship, which includes installation procedures in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code for residential, commercial and industrial systems.

Plumbing & Piping Trades This 25-week program takes a student with little or no previous experience in the piping trades and supplies them with the necessary skills to seek employment in industry as an apprentice Plumber, Steamfitter/Pipefitter or Sprinkler System Installer.

The program exposes the students to aspects of residential, commercial and industrial piping systems in these trades with a focus on developing practical skills. The curriculum follows the British Columbia Industry Training Authority guidelines for the first year in-class components of apprenticeship training for Plumber, Steamfitter/ Pipefitter and Sprinkler System Installer, which includes installation, repair and maintenance procedures in compliance with the applicable codes and standards. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive Level 1 technical training credit toward an apprenticeship in the three trades.

Welder This 28-week program takes students with little or no previous experience in the welding trade and supplies them with the necessary skills to seek employment in this industry as an apprentice or foundation welder. The course exposes the students to many aspects of the welding trade with a focus on developing practical skills.

Graduates of this program will have technical training for level 1 & 2 and 300 workbased hours with the opportunity to write the Standardized Level Exam.

Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) Category M (Maintenance) This two-year diploma program is offered in partnership with Northern Lights College (NLC) in Dawson Creek, B.C. The first three semesters of training take place at the Okanagan College Aerospace Campus in Vernon B.C. The final semester takes place at Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek. The diploma is conferred by Northern Lights College. All curriculum and entrance requirements at Okanagan College align with the AMT program at Northern Lights College. The program is designed to take a student with little or no previous experience in the aircraft maintenance trade and supply them with the necessary skills to seek employment in that industry. The curriculum follows Transport Canada’s guidelines and upon successful completion of the program, Transport Canada will grant graduates 18 months of experience credits toward the 48-month experience requirement for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license. Graduates also receive a diploma for Aircraft Maintenance Technician from Northern Lights College.

Provincial Violence Prevention The Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) was developed to fill a need for effective, recommended, and provincially recognized violence prevention (VP) education for all British Columbia health care workers across a range of public health care settings. The PVPC aligns with trauma informed practice, dementia care, and paediatric care principles. Participants will learn the foundational knowledge regarding violence prevention in the series of e-learning modules. Boiler Basic Safety Awareness

Forklift - Non-experienced

This eight-hour course consists of classroom theory and practical hands-on experience to prepare an individual to write the Boiler Basic Safety Awareness Certificate exam administered by Technical Safety BC. This course is designed to provide basic knowledge of safe operation of heating plants and emergency procedures to be followed by non-licensed personnel. There are no course prerequisites, and anyone is welcome to attend.

This operator training course is designed for individuals who have had no experience operating a forklift. This 16-hour course will take the operator through the safe operating techniques of a forklift and make them aware of the industry standard for safe forklift operations. The course provides opportunities to work on equipment with the instructor and finally to be evaluated and certified. This course will provide current regulations, instructions on how to safely operate a forklift, an overview of the most common types of trucks and their features, pre-shift inspection forms, information on different fuel types, and some practice driving, aiming and maneuvering to meet a basic measurable skill level. Cross Connections Control Backflow Preventer License For plumbers, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters and steamfitters involved in the installation and maintenance of backflow prevention devices.

This course is a prerequisite for certification as a Backflow Tester through the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA). Students must pre-register and pay for the BCWWA exam at least one week prior to course start date – visit bcwwa.org to register and pay exam costs. Students are required to register for the certification exam with the BCWWA prior to the exam date. TRADES GENERAL INTEREST COURSES Motorcycle Maintenance Motorcycle owners are invited to learn general maintenance and tune-up practices for motorcycles. This course will review basic electrical systems, minor repairs, brakes, and tires. Participants will learn about typical problems encountered by motorcyclists, learn to perform general maintenance through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on learning. Participants are encouraged to bring their own motorcycles to campus.

Small Engine Repair Sign up for our small engine repair class and learn about ignition, compression, starting systems, valves, timing, and governors. Please also no baggy clothing and all hair must be tied back. Tools used: hammer, triangle, screwdrivers, drill, circular saw, jigsaw, mitre saw, and power sander.

Trades Kids - Bike Repair Did you take a jump a little too fast and damaged the chain on your bike, did you get a flat tire and want to learn to fix it? Bring your bike to OC and learn how to fix that chain and tire along with other parts on your bike to get it running in top shape. Students will learn how to use hand tools, learn to diagnose a problem and how to fix it. This course will cover bike parts, maintenance and repair on several components that can be fixed at home. Students are welcome to bring in their own bikes to work on.

Courses that don’t meet the minimum number of participants may be cancelled. If a course is cancelled, we will make every effort to contact you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded or applied to another course.

For all certificate programs: to be eligible for a 100% refund of tuition paid (less the $200 non-refundable deposit) the Request to Withdraw must be received no later than 10 working days prior to start date of program.

Refunds are not provided after above notification periods.

Exceptions are made on compassionate grounds. In such cases a written request for refund, accompanied by appropriate documentation (i.e. medical), must be submitted prior to the end of the course or workshop.

Under no circumstances will refunds be granted for requests received after the end of a certificate program, course or workshop.

N.S.F. CHEQUES There will be a charge of $25 for N.S.F. cheques.

• An administration fee will be applied to all withdrawals.

CONTINUING STUDIES REFUND POLICY: NON-CERTIFICATE COURSE WITHDRAWAL Refund requests must be made at least two business days (48 hours) prior to the course start date. No refunds are issued for requests received with less than two business days’ notice. Students may withdraw by phone, e-mail, mail or in person.

STRONGERBC FUTURE SKILLS GRANT In 2023, the B.C. Government announced the creation of the StrongerBC future skills grant to help British Columbians quickly get the skills they need to succeed in the jobs of today and the future.

If this program is extended, you could be eligible to receive up to $3,500 to help cover tuition fees for select short programs.

The StrongerBC future skills grant was open to British Columbians aged 19 years or older - regardless of financial need and covered up to $3,500 per person for eligible short-term skills training at public post-secondary institutions. Learners could choose from programs to upgrade their skills and enhance their productivity, giving them access to well-paid, high opportunity occupations.
