Summer 2020 GRADES: 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 Welcome to Camp OC Our educational day camps are full of interactive fun and adventure. Campers enjoy small class sizes with experienced instructors and School District student volunteers. Camp OC is a great place to engage kids in their interests and passions such as engineering, arts, music, science, culinary arts, trades and computers. Whatever their interests, we’re sure they will find it here.

Mini Mod Design Using Minecraft™

Building with Wood Level I

Ever wondered if you can make the pig in Minecraft™ blue? Or maybe you have thought about creating some new funky tools to use? We had the same thoughts! Let’s personalize Minecraft to make your dreams come true. Create new animals and things, change colours and textures. Join us this week in the world of Minecraft datapacks. The only thing that will stop you is your imagination! *Participants are expected to already have their own full version (Java Edition - PC/MAC version) Minecraft.net account on the first day of camp (including login, password and answer to the three security questions) for their personal use.

Entering Grade 4 to 6 in September

Spend the week building awesome woodworking projects and have hands-on experience in the classroom as well as a fully equipped high level shop. Develop essential craftsmanship skills while learning how to operate a wide variety of tools. Projects will vary and may include a tool box, crossbow elastic band toy or a pencil box with a laser engraved top. Be challenged, be creative, but most important, have fun!

Mini Chef Academy

Do you love trying new things, creating tasty concoctions and playing with your food? At Mini Chef Academy you will do all of this and more. Campers will be taken on a culinary adventure blending, mixing, pouring, flipping, and of course, eating all the scrumptious, mouth-watering cuisine. Be sure to bring your imagination and appetite to this camp. *Closed-toe shoes are required..

Mini Explore Camp OC

Are you a Jane or Jack of all trades? Chef by day, ninja by night? Attend this camp to discover a little bit of everything that Camp OC has to offer. Brew bubbling potions like a scientist, tamper with technology like a true techy, unleash your inner artistic side and run around playing games and races. We guarantee a week full of variety and fun.

Like video games? Don’t just play them, learn how to make them in this creative computer-based camp! Working with a variety of 2D engines, campers will be on the game design fast track, drawing their own graphics, adding custom sounds, building their own levels and making their own rules! From start to finish, experience how games are made.

Can’t decide what camp you want to do? Why not join us this week, where you get to do a little bit of everything. We have a lot of fun things planned, everything from arts and crafts, sports, science experiments, computers, music, cooking, building, testing and exploring. Are you game for a surprise? Then this is the camp for you!

Have you ever wondered what the Trades are all about? If yes, then you’re in luck with this camp! This week you will explore this fascinating world while gaining hands-on experience in approximately five different trades’ specialties. Campers will build a project that incorporates their creativity with carpentry, metal working, plumbing, concrete and electrical components. Learn some useful skills while gaining extensive access to the Trades’ facilities and technical training at Okanagan College. Who knows, you may find an interest you never knew you had! *Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required for the shop areas.

Chef Academy

Whip, whisk, zest and test your chef abilities. Embrace your inner chef in this fast-paced, highenergy cooking adventure. You will discover new and exciting cooking techniques, flavours and aromas. You may even transform into the next great Camp OC Chef. *Closed-toe shoes are required.

Entering Grade 10 to 12 in September

As a high school graduate you will already possess many skills and abilities. This three-day interactive and relaxed learning experience will introduce strategies to relate with different generations, cultures and backgrounds in today’s workplaces, post-secondary classrooms and communities. Discover the leader within while learning about communication, dealing with conflict, problem solving and self-management.

What to Bring to Camp

Please have your child bring a lunch and snacks to camp. Due to allergies, please do not include any nut snacks. Be sure to make note of allergies or a special diet on the Camp OC Informed Parental Consent form. Campers should dress in weather appropriate play clothes and should bring a hat, running shoes, sunscreen and water bottle. If your child’s camp requires additional items, they will be listed on their registration form.

Refund Policy - NEW

Parents may request to withdraw their child from a camp by advising Camp OC by phone, email or in person. A full refund (less a $25 administration fee [per camp, per child]) will be issued if the request to withdraw is made at least five business days before the camp start date. Please note statutory holidays are not considered a business day. Requests made less than five business days before the camp start date will be refunded at a total of 50%, less a $25 administration fee (per camp, per child). No refund is provided after the camp start date unless there are extenuating circumstances. In such cases a written request for refund or a credit toward another camp, accompanied by appropriate documentation (i.e. medical note, etc.) must be submitted to the Associate Director for approval. No refund is provided for days missed or forgotten camps. Refunds will be paid by cheque and will be mailed to the parent. A $25 administration fee (per camp, per child) applies to all Camp OC cancellations, at any point in time.

Late/Absent

If your child will be absent, please notify camp staff by calling 250-862-5480 or e-mail campoc@okanagan.bc.ca. It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure that their child gets signed in at the beginning of camp. You will not be notified if your child is absent from the program.

Our Commitment to You

Camp OC is committed to offering your child a fun, safe and educational experience. We will make every effort to ensure that your child’s camp experience is positive by providing quality content, instructors and facilities. If something is not meeting your expectations, please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to fix the situation.

Behaviour and No Bullying Policy

Okanagan College expects all campers to behave in a respectful way towards other campers, camp staff, equipment and camp facilities. Parents will be notified if their child’s behaviour is inappropriate. If the inappropriate behaviour continues, Okanagan College holds the right to remove the child from camp, without a refund.

Please make sure to read Camp OC’s photo and video release policy. It can be found under FAQ’s in the website as well as on the Informed Parental Consent Form.

Informed Parental Consent Form

The Informed Parental Consent Form will be emailed to you right after you register your child for camp. Please make sure to read it, fill it out and submit it right away.

Age Groups

Camp OC designs camps to fit each age group’s needs and learning level. Please make sure to register your child in the appropriate age category. Campers entering Grade 1 must be 6 years or older on or before Dec. 31 of the current year. If exceptions need to be made, please contact the office.

Certified Education Assistant (CEA)/Support Person Requirements

Camp OC welcomes children of all abilities and with any exceptionalities to join our camps. We want your child to have a positive experience at Camp OC, therefore, it is important that we are notified of any medical, physical or behavioural condition/s that may affect your or other children’s safety at camp. Camp OC does not have trained CEAs on staff. If your child needs extra help, we will happily work with you to find the best solution. We suggest your child brings a helper to camp, that person is of course free of charge. Please note any condition on the Parental Consent Form and feel free to contact the Camp OC Coordinator campoc@okanagan.bc.ca to discuss.

Join us

Consider volunteering at Camp OC this summer. If you are between the ages of 14 and 18, and are currently enrolled at a middle or high school, you are eligible to volunteer at Camp OC. You can expect a summer full of fun and excitement. You will also earn volunteer credits towards graduation, as we report all volunteer hours back to the School District you are attending.
