Hidden Account Numbers Worth $50 Each month, OEC will pay $50 to the two co-op members who locate their hidden account numbers inside the Co-op News that month. The hidden account numbers will be placed at random within the text of each issue and not on the mailing label. The amounts will simultaneously increase in $50 increments until one or both account numbers are located by their respective owners or until the maximum of $500 is reached. 1. One of the hidden account numbers must be your own. 2. You must advise OEC by phone, mail or in person at the co-op’s office by the 15th of the month. If you find your account number call the Member Relations department at 217-6708.

Summer is here, which means we've just wrapped up another successful year of our youth programs as the Youth Tour winners returned from their week-long trip to Washington, D.C. Beginning in July and August, we spread the word about our robust youth development and leadership programs, as well as hands-on electricity and safety education, for kids of all ages. Our seven-county service area includes 26 school districts ranging from some of the smallest in the state to the third largest. OEC's board of trustees has made investing in the next generation a priority of OEC's since 1964 when the first Youth Tour winners were awarded and the program has only grown since then. As a utility, we develop plans and goals for 10 years into the future. The same goes for our youth programs. Making investments early in the youth in our area prepares them to lead their communities. Something new OEC did last year was sponsor area robotics teams. With technology advancing and extracurricular funding for schools decreasing, we feel it is important for students in our schools to have the opportunity to explore activities like robotics. Ensuring schools are able to support a robotics team helps expose the kids, especially those in smaller communities, to all the possibilities of future careers in the fields of science, math and engineering — like one at an electric co-op. Our team plans to expand the Get Charged! program, a hands-on curriculum focused on electricity-based science projects developed by OEC, to more grade levels in the coming year, as well. Get Charged! meets state requirements for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. We are always looking to improve the communities we serve and enjoy bringing programs like these to our schools. Visit www.okcoop.org/ LEARN for more information.

he Cooperative Communicators Association (CCA) in June awarded OEC’s marketing and member relations team with three trophies during its annual, nationwide contest. OEC's employee magazine received a first place for Best Employee Publication for the third year in a row; the informational brochure sent to new OEC members when they connect service won first place for Brochures, Pamphlets and One-Time Publications; and, an article titled "The Future of Electric Rates" written by Editor Brianna Wall published in April, 2018 earned third place for Technical Writing. “This is the third year in a row our employee publication has earned the first place trophy in the Employee Publication category,” said Autumn McMahon, manager of marketing and member relations. “We have an incredibly hard-working team that ensures the materials we send to our members and our employees are of the highest quality, and we are always proud when someone else acknowledges our hard work.” OEC's employee publication, The Quarterly Plug, aims to keep employees and their spouses, board trustees and retirees of OEC abreast of the latest co-op happenings and events, as well as celebrate achievements and recognize those who are giving back to their communities. “This particular contest includes work from co-ops in a variety of industries — not just electric co-ops — whose budgets are much larger than ours," said McMahon. "It’s truly an honor and inspires us to continue working to ensure OEC’s materials are the best they can be.”
Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), OEC's wholesale generation and transmission power provider, has an impressive renewable portfolio that includes wind, hydro and — recently added — solar. OEC's Solar Garden, located at Interstate 35 and Highway 77 in Norman, began producing power in February 2017, and Tuttle's 40-acre Solar Farm began operation in March 2017. As more solar facilities come online, expect to see it added to WFEC's generation report, increasing the already robust mix of renewable energy sources.

Bryan Hurst retires after 37 years at OEC
N
ow-retired Manager of Automation Bryan Hurst said farewell in May after a 37-year career. During his time at OEC, Bryan saw a wide range of metering technology and helped ensure OEC stayed on the forefront of implementing it throughout our system. He served in the U.S. Army as a police officer from 1985 to 2010. "Service and leadership are the main themes that come to mind with Bryan and his career," said CEO Patrick Grace. "It started with his great service to our country in the military but that spirit also carried over to service to the members as well. That combination resulted in a great 37 year career here at OEC. I wish him all the best in retirement — he certainly has earned it."
OEC hosts statewide co-op safety training
O
EC in June played host to 15 different co-ops as a training site for the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP). The program, along with many practices, helps promote a safe workplace and culture. Essentially, it is a safety health check. During the training, 40 safety and loss control professionals inspected OEC's housekeeping, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, truck bins, lighting, etc. The complete facility inspection identifies potential areas of improvement as well as rewards for areas that are above and beyond the standards set by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. [1821311503] Electric co-ops are inspected every three years by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association to ensure maximum measures are being taken to conduct a safe workplace. The RESAP training helped prepare the co-ops in attendance for the annual inspection.

Upcoming meetings to be held in three districts
O
EC is governed by a nine-person board of trustees that is responsible for establishing the overall policies of the cooperative. Each trustee is a coop member who represents one district — the area in which he or she lives — within the co-op's service territory and serves a three-year term. Terms are staggered in such a way that only three trustees are up for election each year. Meetings are held in the three respective districts for the primary purpose of electing trustees, discussing cooperative business and sharing information about the electric industry. Please note an election will take place only in the event a quorum is met consisting of five (5) percent of the districts’ members in attendance. The dates and locations for this year's district meetings are as follows: • Members in district 3 — Slaughterville, Lexington — will gather at Lexington Junior High Auditorium July 15 at 7 p.m. • Members in district 5 — Norman, Noble — will gather at Noble High School Commons July 16 at 7 p.m. • Members in district 7 — Tuttle, Bridge Creek — will gather at Tuttle First Assembly of God Life Center July 18 at 7 p.m. Members in these districts will receive a notice in the coming days and are asked to bring it with them to their respective meeting for registration.

OEC FIBER
OEC Fiber subscribers rave about exceptional service, internet speed
A
nother month has passed and we are excited to move closer to our goal of providing affordable and reliable high-speed fiber services to all OEC members. We still are in the beginning of the project with a lot ahead of us, but we have a total of 1,600 active subscribers online and enjoying #OECFiberFast internet. In May, we opened four new zones, bringing our total number of open zones to 17. If you are still waiting for OEC Fiber to open your zone, make sure you’re signed up for updates at www. OECFiber.com and stay tuned. We are working extremely quickly and will keep you updated with announcements about your zone as we have them. As always, you can see the areas that are already open for service at www.OECFiber.com/map. Here's what some of the first OEC Fiber subscribers are saying: zz “I got my OEC Fiber internet connected today and I am just pleased beyond words! The techs, Mason and Andrew, were very knowledgeable, respectful, and extremely considerate during the installation process. The install took them no time at all to get it going from start to finish. So tickled that we were some of the first to receive service and will be a customer for many years to come! Thanks so much to OEC, Mason and Andrew! (I forgot to mention that my internet is ridiculously fast!!!!!! 110 Mbps it was reading)” — Dee G., a 100 Mbps residential subscriber zz “My Internet now has Wings! I shoot a lot of photos with a camera that consumes a memory card faster than a frat goes through pizza. When I get home from a long trip, it would often take three 24 hour days to upload my images to the cloud. We just got back from a trip to the Amazon and with our OEC Fiber, all 800 images were uploaded within three hours! Yes, it took about a month to get installed but it's a world of difference better than the ATT U-Verse we used to have. I'm constantly seeing 100Mps downloads AND 100Mps uploads! The OEC techs were great and worked with me to run the wiring exactly where I needed it. The best

part? The price is the same as ATT with four times the speed!” — Michael G., a 100 Mbps residential subscriber zz “Just got OEC Installed a couple weeks ago and here are my thoughts: - Customer service is absolutely fantastic. Same high level of care and service from the electric side, so no surprise there. Having come from AT&T internet, it's wonderful. -With AT&T, I was paying $60/month for 5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. OEC Fiber is giving me 1 Gbps both ways (1000 Mbps up and down) for $85/month. Definitely worth it. -Installers are great guys and very knowledgeable in the equipment and technologies they are working with. — a simple reminder — Don't be upset when you get less than 1 Gbps speeds using Wi-Fi. You need hard wired connections to get those speeds. This isn't OEC's fault, it's a limitation of how Wi-Fi works, especially if you have multiple devices connected. I still see speeds of 350-400 Mbps on my phone on Wi-Fi, which is vastly faster than what I got with AT&T. Overall a great value and fantastic service. We are the some of the first neighborhoods to get service and it has been an incredible experience.” — John D., 1 Gbps residential subscriber

Energy Camp excites, educates local teens

YOUTH & LEADERSHIP
F
Four local students and one employee represented OEC at this year’s Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives’ Youth Power Energy Camp. The students were among 80 soonto-be high school freshmen from across the state sponsored by their local rural electric cooperatives to attend the camp. Karter Caves from Amber-Pocasset, Kaitlyn Leitner from Noble, Amelia Blansett from Blanchard, and Jackson Busch from Oklahoma City enjoyed the four-day, action-packed camp, which is held annually at Canyon Camp and Conference Center near Hinton. OEC Member Service Associate Erin McKnight also enjoyed camp as a counselor. One of the main goals of the camp is to teach the students about the cooperative business model and principles. This is achieved when they are assigned with the task of forming their own co-op. [6415403000] “The campers were divided into seven coop districts,” said OEC Education and Outreach Programs Director Tory Tedder-Loffland, who helps organize the camp each year. “Each district was assigned a co-op principle as their theme. They made flags and created chants celebrating the meaning of their principle. This format allowed the campers many opportunities to practice leadership and support the unique strengths of everyone in the district.” Blansett was elected to serve as a board director, while Caves and Busch both landed interviews for the co-op general manager. By the time camp was over, these young leaders knew the significance of the cooperative difference. In addition to learning about cooperatives and electricity, campers climbed an electric pole, rode in a bucket truck, conducted team-building exercises, played games and more. "I made a lot of new friends and learned how I can be a better leader in my community," said Caves. "I learned so much about co-ops and I made so many new friends," said Blansett. OEC awards trips to camp to eighth grade students through a referral process and essay contest each spring. Applicants must write about their idea of good leadership and identify the type of leader they want to be. For more information on next year’s camp, keep an eye on the Energy Camp page at www.okcoop.org/EnergyCamp.

FOURTH OF JULY S'MORES BARS 1 package of Oreos, crushed into fine crumbs 1 cube (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted 1 can sweetened condensed milk 7 graham cracker squares (just enough to create a layer in your pan)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Take a 9×13 and line it with tin foil! Crush the Oreo Cookies into fine crumbs. Combine the crushed oreos with the cube of melted butter. Press the oreo mixture into the bottom of the 9×13 pan. Pour the sweet condensed milk over the oreo crust. Break up the graham crackers and chocolate bar and sprinkle them over the sweet condensed milk. I personally prefer Milk Chocolate, but it’s totally up to your preference. Sprinkle the mini marshmallows all over. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Remove from the oven and right away sprinkle the M&Ms all over the bars. Put back in the oven and cook for 5-7 more minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes. While the bars are cooling, break up the last 4 oz chocolate bar with 3 tablespoons milk on the stove top and mix until you can drizzle the chocolate over the bars. If needed, add more milk. After the bars are cooled, drizzle the milk chocolate over the top of the bars. Allow to finish cooling and the chocolate to set before serving.
