Architectural Styles From 1700
Georgian- This is a very elegant and expensive style. The
houses will have two or 3 stories and symetrical windows. It also has a Pediment which is similair to a balcony.
Federal- This style was created to celebrate the new federal
government. It will be shaped in a simple square or rectangle. This house will have two to three stories in it. The house will be two rooms deep.
Greek Revival- This style of houses will be colored with lighter colors. A key part of this style is the pilasters in the front. The houses are very tall and expensive looking.
Italianate- This style is said to look like Spanish houses. They
are commonly colored in red. They were common in the mid to late 1800s.
Victorian- These houses are very colorful and a key part of
this style is the mansard roof. A mansard roof goes straight up and down, not in the shape of a triangle like most. They also include a lot of windows.
Colonial Revival- A key part of this style is the shut-
ters on the window. This houses will have two to three stories. The house will be neutral colors and have at least one chimney. It may also have a little addition on the side of the house.
Prairie- This style of houses is made to look blended in with
nature. The aren’t very tall but are long. They are typically natural colors and have stone textures.
Craftsman- This style will have multiple roofs. The roofs will all be on different levels of the house. This house looks to be a good family home becasue it is very spacious.
Ranch- These types of houses wil have a very big lawn around
the house. These houses are one level. These houses would not be a good family home because there isn’t a lot of room to run around and play in.
Shed- This style will have very uneven roofs. They will go all different ways and different directions. They will have very large windows. They were common in the 1970s and they are on the smaller side.
A-Frame- This style is in the shape of an A. This is not a good house at all for a family. These houses are very small and wouldn’t be good for a growing family, These houses are very cozy and typically have large decks on them.
Geodesic- These houses are in the shape of a dome. They are
similair to studio apartments because it is really just one big room. They are also cheaper to build than regular houses because you don’t have all of the extra floor plans.
