Schloss Eggenberg, Vorchdorf, Austria

Since 1681

Schloss Eggenberg is one of Europe’s oldest breweries – built on a history dating back to the 10th century and a family heritage stretching back eight generations. Despite a brewing range that stretches from the incredibly pure Hopfenkönig Pilsner to the off-the-charts strength of the famed Samichlaus, the brewery’s beers are considered by many as some of Europe’s best examples of lagering.

Eggenberg Hopfernkönig

Pils

5.1% ABV

6×4pk 500ml cans; 20L

Carefully-selected raw materials combined with the finest art of brewing make this a beer to fall in love with. Bright as it is crisp, and refreshing as it is flavorful, this is the picture of a pilsner you’ll be hard-pressed to stop coming back to.

Eggenberg Urbock 23°

Doppelbock

9.6% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles

Called the “Cognac of Beers,” this beer is a rich goldenbrown toffee color with a strong malt aroma. While it’s body is remarkably light for the 9.6% ABV, its character is that of a woodsy, heavy beer –more akin to cognac, brandy, or even scotch liquor than to the traditional beer. It matures in their ancient cellars for nine months until it is fully fermented and turns amber in color.

Eggenberg Helle Weizen

5.2% ABV

6×4pk 500ml cans

Eggenberg’s newest release is a full -bodied and open-fermented Hefeweizen brewed with both sunny days and snowy nights (on the slopes) in mind. Waves of banana and clove coat the palate as you’d expect any traditional Bavarian wheat beer to, but the hint of bubble gum that lingers behind is the first sign that just one sip of this beer won’t be enough.

Eggenberg Freibier Alkoholfrei .38% ABV

4×6pk 330ml bottles

From the creators of Samichlaus Classic and Urbock 23°!

Malty taste with notes of unmalted grain and caramel malt and balanced with a soft hop bitterness. This is as close to a mega-hit of nonalcoholic brewing as one can get.

Samichlaus Classic

Doppelbock - 14.0% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles; 20L keg

6×4pk 330ml slim cans

Brewed only once a year on December 6th, Samichlaus is aged for a full 10 months before bottling. Aroma and palate match step-for-step with light malty notes of vanilla, toffee, chocolate, oak— suggesting matured brandy in its character. At 14% ABV, this gem can be cellared for years to come, allowing its forceful flavor to grow in nuance and subtlety.

Samichlaus Helles

Belgian Tripel - 14.0% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles

This variant of the iconic Samichlaus is brewed exclusively with Austrian Pilsner malt – and the result is pure intensity in beer form. Like its namesake, this beer is only brewed once a year, on December 6 – but here delivers a forceful bouquet of pear, apple, and grape before a second wave of spices hit to deliver a product more reminiscent of sherry to the flagship’s brandy. With a few more years under its belt, it grows in complexity and nuance.

Samichlaus Schwarz

Belgian Quad - 14% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles

The youngest variant of the legendary Samichlaus, Samichlaus Schwarzes delivers a deeper – if possible – flavor palate than the original. Roasted malts drive the color jet black, and the resulting dark chocolate and roast coffee flavors result in a winter warmer if there ever was one. As its siblings, Samichlaus Schwarzes is brewed once a year on December 6th.

Brouwerij Bosteels, Buggenhout, Belgium

Since 1791

In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.

Bosteels Brewery stands in the heart of the village of Buggenhout. Adjoining the spacious inner courtyard, the handsome and dignified buildings rise up from the ground: the former family residence and the old whitewashed brewery tower. The listed brew house is built to the designs of the architect Minnaert (Minnaert Theatre, Ghent).

Deus undergoes a lengthy, costly maturation in the Champagne caves of France. The elegant and laborintensive “methode Champenoise” produces the best sparkling beverages in the world. DeuS has characteristics of both sparkling wine (fine, velvety carbonation) and specialty beer (rich maltiness) but also exhibits a fragrant, herbal and spicy character quite unique and special. Flavors of anise, mint, malt, lavender, and a barely perceptible hoppiness make DeuS a very sophisticated treat.

Brasserie Dubuisson, Pipaix, Belgium

Since 1769

Brasserie Dubuisson is the oldest and most authentic brewery in Wallonia. The brewers at Dubuisson confine themselves to a relatively limited range of beers, but beers that all display a very asserted character and personality. The Brasserie Dubuisson beers are noticeable by very marked aromas and flavours, without compromising or cutting corners. The “neutrality” and “smoothness” of flavours, aromas and tastes is not appreciated at Dubuisson. Each Dubuisson beer is a beer “with character” that the drinker will remember. While remaining true to the principles of traditional production, the Dubuisson brewery is constantly trying to improve the production process in order to meet the demands of customers that are spread out over every continent. All of the improvements are made using strictly 100% natural raw materials.

Scaldis Tripel

Belgian Tripel - 10.5% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles — 20L keg; ½ bbl. keg

Originally introduced by current brewer Hugues Dubuisson in 1998 as a 65th Anniversary celebration of Scaldis Ambrée , today the triple has become a beloved part of the brewery’s core offerings. Where the Ambrée behaves in many ways like a red Burgundy wine, the triple behaves like a white: tropical, creamy and crisp. Its 10.5% ABV serves as yet another reminder of its inspiration.

Scaldis Noël

Strong Dark / Winter Warmer - 11% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles — 20L keg; ½ bbl. keg

At the urging of customers seeking an ideal beer for their end-of-year celebrations, Brasserie Dubuisson introduced Scaldis Noël in 1991 – it’s been hailed as one of the best winter ales in the world ever since. By combining caramel malts with carefully selected hops, this strong dark ale delivers a bouquet of fruity aromas wrapped in a beer dark ruby in color yet remains balanced like its namesake. When it comes to winter warmers, it’s hard to argue with nearly 30 years of near-universal praise.

Brewed using a recipe that dates back to 1933, Scaldis Caractère has been perfected by three separate generations of family brewers and has come to represent everything the brewery embodies: traditional ingredients, patient fermentation and balanced flavor. With its rich amber color, rustic aroma and bittersweet flavor, Scaldis Caractère behaves in many ways more like an aged Burgundy red wine than it does a beer – and pairs with food similarly well. And as one of Belgium’s strongest beers, it’s capable of maturing for years to come. 89 91

Scaldis Pêche Mel

Fruited Ale - 8.5% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles — 20L keg; ½ bbl. keg

Limited Annual Release

Inspired by a popular cocktail made with the Scaldis Caractère and fresh peach juice, Scaldis Pêche Mel has been a year-round addition to the Brasserie Dubuisson portfolio since 2009 and is a portrait of balance. The natural fruit aromas provide a beautiful harmony with the bitterness of the Caractère, allowing for a fullbodied and completely balanced beer – lacking the sweetness of the fruited lambics to the north and, at 8.5% ABV, significantly heavier than the radlers to the east.

84

Scaldis Prestige

Strong Amber - 13.0% ABV 6×750ml. Bottles

The Scaldis Prestige is a Scaldis Caractère that, rather than maturing in stainless steel tanks, has spent six months finishing in oak barrels. During the bottling process, small amounts of sugar and yeast are added to the beer so it re-ferments in the bottle during its stay in the brewery’s warm room. This develops the natural yeast cloud and gives the beer its exceptionally high alcohol volume of 13%.

Reviving the traditional use of oak barrels has introduced aromas and tannins that haven’t been experienced in beer for many years. Even the most demanding beer lover will be bowled over by these qualities. Think of the aromas of whisky and other spirits matured on oak coupled with an extraordinarily rounded character.

91

Scaldis Prestige de Nuits

Strong Dark - 13.0% ABV

6×750ml. Bottles

The Scaldis Prestige de Nuits was introduced to the market in 2008. To create this beer, the Scaldis Noël was matured for six to nine months in oak barrels that were previously used to mature Bourgogne de Nuits-StGeorges, one of the great Burgundy wines. The beer is decanted into 75cl bottles and placed in the brewery’s warm room to produce a second fermentation.

The final result is utterly surprising. This is a beer with plenty of character, a clear colour, vinous aromas and a taste profile that leans towards wine…

91

Scaldis Prestige de Charmes

Tripel - 13.0% ABV

6×750ml. Bottles

Hugues Dubuisson is always on the lookout for extraordinary products. It was in this spirit that he came up with the idea of maturing Scaldis Triple in oak barrels, which had previously been used to store white Burgundy wine, more specifically the famous Charmes Meursault.

The traditional maturation process in recycled wine barrels allows the beer to develop an aromatic explosion of white and yellow fruit, with flowery and citrusy touches, as well as wine-like impressions contributed by the Chardonnay grape. This exceptional beer is an example of brewer’s art with a capital A

The beer is a traditional Saison and a typical regional product from the Province of Hainaut. It is brewed with 3 kinds of malt, 3 varieties of quality Belgian hops and fermented with 3 types of yeast.

Surfine is a golden blond ale. This refreshing beer has a surprisingly balanced, slightly bitter taste. The aromas are strikingly complex and fruity. Citrus is the predominant note, but there are flowery touches reinforced by impressions of herbs and pepper.

Cuvée des Trolls

Blond - 7.0% ABV

6×4pk 330ml. bottles — 20L keg; ½ bbl. keg

The Cuvée des Trolls was created in 2000 in the tanks of microbrewery Le Brasse-Temps, which was established in Louvain-la-Neuve by Brasserie Dubuisson. It is an unfiltered blonde beer with a natural cloud. The beer is produced using only yeast, malt, hops, sugar and water and has an alcohol volume of 7%.

Thanks to the addition of dried orange peel during the boiling process, the beer has very pleasant fruity aromas that are in beautiful harmony with its delicate, fully rounded taste. It is an exquisitely balanced and barely bitter beer that tastes full in the mouth and has sufficient body.

KEREL / VBDCK Brewery, Tielrode, Belgium

The Verbeeck – Back – De Cock brewery has been around since the end of the 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in the northern region of Belgium. The brewery was, is and remains a family affair: no monks or big corporations in sight. When the original family brewery closed down in 1966, all of the original beers were lost. None of it was saved. Or so people thought. Deep down in one of the basements, covered by a pile of rubble, a single bottle of the original KEREL beer had been preserved. With the greatest of care, the bottle was whisked off to a team of Belgian experts to analyze and extract the original KEREL yeast DNA. It’s the very same yeast that is used today to brew every new delicious batch of KEREL beer.

Brouwerj Omer Vander Ghinste, Bellegem, Belgium

Since 1892

Bellegem has been home to the Omer Vander Ghinste Brewery since 1892. Founded by Omer Vander Ghinste and handed down within the family, the brewery is now in the hands of fourth-generation owner/manager Omer-Jean Vander Ghinste During World War II the brewer at that time was Omer-Remi. Having spent some time in the St. James Hospice in Paris as a refugee, he was inspired to create a line of beers called “Jacobins” in honor of the Dominican Friars that answer to that name in France and who had given him shelter in his time of need. Today the brewery is better known as a producer of lagers, but has maintained the expertise and equipment to produce excellent spontaneously fermented beers.

OMER

Belgian Blond Quad - 8.0% ABV 6/4/ 330ml bottles

OMER. Traditional Blond is a top-fermented beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle, brewed according to a traditional recipe. It contains carefully selected ingredients, such as high-quality malted barley from the Loire region (France) and three varieties of aromatic hops. It is a full flavoured beer with a fruity aroma and a subtle bitterness. Pale golden and extraordinary, Omer has a firm malt character with a pleasant hop bitterness and warm, bready aroma. Tasted in it’s signature glass it’s a treat for the eye and palate.

Bred-Brown Flanders Sour Ale - 5.5% 6/4/330ml bottles

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "VanderGhinste RoodbBruin".

“Overall, this is an outstanding Oud Bruin in my opinion. It's a bit sweet, it's a bit sour, and it's extremely wellbalanced. Aside from the (just-a-hair) too high hop bitterness for my expectations, this beer is a killer. If you can find this one (and you like Flanders-style sours) get this beer today.” - Beer Connoisseur

Flanders Red Sour Ale - 6.6% 6/4/330ml bottles; 20L keg

Prestige is a blend of 24 month-old foederbier, spontaneously fermented in and blended from foeders IX, XI and XIV. It has a deeper brettanomyces character and an overall soft and fruity character. Sourness is here in plenty, just like the Cuvée Rouge, but the balance is finer and tipped more toward stone fruit. The complexity of true spontaneous fermentation cannot be equaled by any other method. Extended aging brings about different stages of fermentation, each adding their own note. Cerevisiae, brettanomyces, and lactobacillus are like voices in a choir— only a truly gifted brewer can bring them into harmony.

100% Pure Foederbeer—Flanders Sour Ale - 5.5% 6×4/pk 330ml bottles; 20L keg

This iconic beer offering is “unblended old lambic, aged for 18 months or more.” It boasts assertive flavor character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer that embodies the Vander Ghinste tenets of refined and robust taste.

Where’s the name come from? According to Artisanal Imports, which brings the brews stateside:

“During World War II the brewer at that time was Omer-Remi. Having spent some time in the St. James Hospice in Paris as a refugee, he was inspired to create a line of beers called "Jacobins" in honor of the Dominican Friars that answer to that name in France and who had given him shelter in his time of need.”

Sour - Flanders Red Ale - 4.5% 6×4pk 330ml bottles

Our Jacobins Kriek has a well-balanced, pleasant and slightly sweet flavor, which is best enjoyed when drunk out of its own bowl-shaped glass. An excellent thirst quencher and… perfect for drinking in an outdoor café!

The basic ingredient of our Jacobins Kriek is wort made of wheat and malted barley. This wort is first boiled and then transported to the brewery’s open cooling vessel to cool down. To obtain its true “kriek” or cherry flavor, natural cherry juices are also added. The fruitiness of the aroma clearly reveals itself in the mouth.

Brouwerij Oud Beersel, Beersel, Belgium

Since 1882

With a history stretching back to 1882, Brouwerij Oud Beersel is not only one of the last remaining authentic Lambic breweries in Belgium, it’s one of the oldest.

Oude Gueuze Vielle

Oude Geuze - 6.0% ABV

Oud Beersel Oude Geuze is one of nature’s miracles. Oude Geuze is a blend of lambic from different years. One year-old lambic is still readily fermentable. Two year-old and three year-old lambic’s main contribution is to the taste. Blending the lambic produces a sparkling beer that is made in accordance with time-honored traditions.

Oude Kriek

Fruited Lambic - 5.0% ABV

Oud Beersel Oude Kriek is an artisanal product, made from real cherries and Oud Beersel Lambic matured in old barrels. They are slowly absorbed into the Lambic, which develops a fruity character and a ruby red color. Oud Beersel Oude Kriek is unique of its type in that it contains around 400 grams of cherries per liter.

Vandervelden

Lambic - 6.5% ABV

The Vandervelden series are a tribute to the founder of Oud Beersel, Henri Vandervelden, who started the brewery in 1882. A unique blend that consists only of three year old lambics from three foeders formerly used for the maturation of Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy’s best wines. The complexity of the obtained lambics results in a very refined Oude Geuze.

The Green Walnut

Lambic - 6.5% ABV

For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel. In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer. Green Walnut is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts.

Following the brewery’s reconstruc*on aKer the bombings of World War I, a top-fermented, refreshing ale was created as an alterna*ve to high-alcohol offerings, while s*ll remaining true to Belgian beer tradi*ons. The use of champagne malts gives PALM its signature amber color, along with a citrus and caramel taste and a las*ng, clean finish. At 5.2% ABV, Palm is a refreshing alterna*ve to heavy ales and IPAs, and it is more flavorful and approachable than today’s pilsners and lagers.

“The brilliantly clear amber body and the slowly dissipa*ng ivory head delivers an aroma of biscuits, caramel, toast, and honey. The esters dominant in other Belgian styles are not present here. The flavor is a delicate, complex, well-balanced blend of bread crust, honey and floral hops with hints of fruity esters. The finish off the medium body and medium-high carbona*on is crisp and dry. Brasserie St. Feuillien, Le Roeulx, Belgium

Since 1873

Brasserie St. Feuillien (“Foo-Yen”) had it’s start in the 7th century, when an Irish monk named Foylan—a name which later morphed into the more French “Feuillien”—was killed in the village of Le Roeulx. A chapel was built in his honor, which, over time, became the Abbey St. Feuillien du Roeulx. The abbey featured a brewery to support itself, but was destroyed in the French Revolution. In 1873 the Friart family resumed brewing operations and to this day a portion of the proceeds is donated to charitable causes around the world, making St. Feuillien one of Belgium’s oldest and most authentic Abbey Ales.

Rumored to be the Beatles favorite beer

The ultimate everyday drinking beer. Astra is a well balanced Pilsener with a smooth bitterness, mild palette and delicate finish. Simply delicious and CRUSHABLE!.

ASTRA is Germany's cult beer from the St. Pauli district of Hamburg. Beer Advocate, 85 pts, said it best: CLEAN, HAY, FIZZY This is one of those no-frills Pilsners, a staple blue-collar beer, an industrial lager of sortsand we don’t mean this in any sort of negative tone. The world needs beers like this, yellow and fizzy but with flavor. Way too easy to quaff back, a real treat for what it is.

This is not a craft beer. It is to be drank by the gallon! For that reason the beer is smooth and very drinkable, perfect for a session. There is low bitterness and the overall feel to the beer is of a little bit of malt, a little bit of hops with a tinge of acidity. Augustiner Bräu, Munich, Germany

Since 1328

Augustiner-Bräu is a (relatively) small German brewery hailing from Munich with a long, rich history and deep ties to the city’s culture and Oktoberfest. To this day they are privately owned and operated, defying convention they have stayed very low key and do not attempt to assert themselves as a worldwide beer. Despite this they sell as much beer as they can possibly produce and continue to be a local favorite. In 1294, the Augustinian Hermits established a monastery just outside of period Munich. 34 years later in 1328, they built their brewery on the monastery grounds where the monks continued to operate it independently for nearly 500 years. During the 500 years of operation by monks, their beer was sold to the public in their monastery tavern and was prized by Munich so much that the Monarch spared the brewery from taxation as thanks.

Klosterbrauerei Ettal, Ettal, Germany

Since 1609

The history of Benediktiner begins in the Benedictine abbey at the Ettal monastery. It has a brewing tradition developed by Benediktiner monks 400 years ago which they still honor today. Here are their roots, and the things that have made their beer special to this day – the tranquility of the monastery, which is set at an altitude of 2,900 feet (the highest monastery in Germany), a philosophy of treating nature and raw materials with respect, and the Benedictine attention to detail.

Benediktiner Festbier

Märzen / Oktoberfest - 5.8% ABV

6×4pk 16.9oz cans — 50L Keg

This quintessentially Bavarian brew is an excellent way to toast in the tradition of the famous fall festival in Munich. The malty aroma of this well-balanced beer complements the subtle fruit and caramel tasting notes. Throw some bratwurst sausages on the grill, crack open a can or two and have your own Bavarian festivities at home. Oktoberfest season isn't just drinking the old standbys, it's also about finding new favorites. This is one of the best Oktoberfest beers I’ve had in a while.

Brauerei C. & A. Veltins, Meschede-Grevenstein, Germany

Since 1824

At the turn of the century, the twin brothers Carl and Anton Veltins managed the then, still small 'Grevensteiner Brewery' in the second generation. With the right hand and a lot of sensitivity, they created Grevensteiner beer which, up until 1926, was known and loved far beyond the region. Today, Brauerei C. & A. Veltins continues this history with 'Grevensteiner'.

The beer which the second generation (the twin brothers Carl and Anton Veltins) brewed for the catering trade in the 1890s has been interpreted in a contemporary way. Employing traditional raw materials

C.A. Veltins Grevensteiner Original

Kellerbier - 5.2% ABV - 18 IBU

4×6pk 330ml cans & 50L keg

C. & A. Veltins Grevensteiner Original is a throwback to the brewery's origins. The aroma of this beer is a rich with nutty, toasty, sweet malt notes up front and a very low level of grassy, hay-like hop accent in the rear. It pours with a beautiful deep amber color, that is mildly hazy and topped off with a small bubbled white head that persists around the edge of the glass. As is typical of an amber Kellerbier, the flavor has a bold, toasty, sweet melanoidin (biscuit and honey) malt character with a slightly peppery, hop flavor and a moderately low hop bitterness. It is definitively malt-balanced, with a medium dry finish and a light hop flavor that lingers to the end. The alcohol is smooth, yet apparent – the medium carbonation makes the mouthfeel is a little prickly on the tongue, however there is no astringency and the medium-light body makes it an inviting beverage to sip and savor. It is easy drinking and would make a delicious accompaniment to richly flavored sausages and cheese.

Hofbräuhaus Traunstein, Traunstein, Germany Since 1612

Traunstein Brewery was founded in 1612 by the Bavarian Duke Maximilian I. Maximilian I was well aware of his subjects’ thirst for beer, so he set up a “Weiβes Bräushaus,” which initially opened as a public bar. Throughout the 1800s, ownership of the Traunstein was passed around until Josef Sailer acquired it in 1896. After the Second World War, Sailor’s son was able to expand the business.

In 1975 all eight varieties of beer were awarded the highest accolade, gold medals from the Deutsche Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft (German Agriculture Society), a record in the history of the brewery. Since 1975 Traunstein has been awarded over 100 gold and silver medals by the German Agricultural Society as well as the Gold European Beer Star. Darkness is the archetype of bottom-fermented Bavarian beer, because before 1900 there was no naturally soft water and no light malt for brewing light beers. Our “brown beer” has been produced according to a traditional recipe for over 400 years, has been part of our regular range ever since, making it our second oldest variety after wheat beer.

In the 1960s it was known as "Heimgehbier" - the last beer before going home. This festival beer matures for three to four months in their dark, cool cellars. Like no other beer, the Festbier embodies their historic founding mandate from Prince Maximilian I - and with a little imagination, the velvety taste is reminiscent of the Prince's soft robes.

Bright gold and sparkling clear, Jever’s high carbonation gives an attractive appearance as well as a clean, crisp finish. Grassy and floral notes are accompanied by a distinct graininess. Jever is very thirst quenching thanks to its long dry finish and firm bitterness. It’s that renowned finish that really marks this beer extraordinary.

The late beer connoisseur, Michael Jackson, rated this beer the only 4-star rated Pilsener in Germany. Jever is a style of its own.

Tarušku Alaus Bravoras, Lithuania

Since 1993

Taruškų Alaus Bravoras is based in the north of Lithuania and is part of the Aukštaitijos brewery collective. They are a collective who have joined together to try and keep traditional Lithuanian beer alive. To do this they all signed a manifesto, agreeing to these five points: non-pasteurized, non-filtered, no artificial ingredients, no preservatives used, and not artificially carbonated.

They stay away from the cold and fizzy yellow beers that are often seen through central Europe, and which they signed the manifesto to avoid continuing. From traditional feast ales, to local yeasts, to ryes and other interesting grains, they seem to be doing well. The Kanapinis beers are very much in that tradition.

Kanapinis is Lithuanian for ‘of hemp’, and the beers are both made with roasted hemp seed in the mix. Hemp is a very nutritious plant, and the seeds are full of goodness.
