Life Lessons Julia Cameron Interview with OMTimes Magazine

JULIA CAMERON has been an active artist for more than four decades. She is the author of more than forty books, fiction and nonfiction, including such bestselling works on the creative process as The Artist’s Way, Walking in This World, and Finding Water. A novelist, Omtimes.com

playwright, songwriter, and poet, she has multiple credits in theater, film, and television. She divides her time between Manhattan and the high desert of New Mexico. OMTIMES: What prompted you to write Life Lessons? Life Lessons was born out of my experience with living alone and seeking spiritual comfort. It could fairly be said that although I wrote the book for others, I also wrote it for myself. I live alone, up the mountain from central Santa Fe. The occasional bear, coyote or deer make up my visitors. Although I am frequently in touch by telephone with my friends from New York, it is still lonely. My Santa Fe friendships are blossoming, but “drop by” friendships are few and far between. When it snows, which is often, I find myself snowbound. The drifts around my house make visiting impossible, and so I face many a lonely night with prayer as my companion. My writing room holds octagonal windows looking into the woods. By day the room is cheerful, filled

with light. By night, the room is dark, and as I peer through the glass, I spot flora and fauna, but no human being. It was on a snowy winter’s night when I felt particularly isolated that it came to me to write Life Lessons. I wanted comfort, and I realized that spiritual comfort was what I was seeking. Curled in my large leather writing chair, I set pen to page. Words floated easily as I sought out higher forces to ease my loneliness and anxiety. OMTIMES: What types of issues did the words address, and did they lessen the loneliness and anxiety you describe? The first prayer addressed my fearful state: “Little One, why are you anxious? Why do you worry and fret? I am with you always, and I intend you great good. Still your frantic imaginings…” The prayer struck straight to my heart. I was frightened, and my imagination was turned toward darkness. The prayer continued: “Feel my calm. There is no need for panic.” As

Omtimes.com

I wrote, I could feel my anxiety slipping away. I did feel calm, and my thoughts appreciably lightened. I wrote one prayer, then two. The second prayer asked me to focus on the beauty all around me. The snow outside my window was a crystalline blanket. The icicles on my eves were not swords, but magic wands. As I wrote “Rest your heart in my quietude,” I found myself able to do exactly that. I wrote, “On a snowy night, feel my peace and tranquility.” I did feel peace. I did feel tranquility. Reaching out to higher forces, I felt the loveliness all around me. No longer anxious and disturbed, I found myself appreciating the beauty of God’s world. No longer turning a blind eye to God’s radiance, I found that as I strived to be appreciative, I was given the gift of appreciation. “This world is enchanted,” I caught myself thinking, and as I did, I felt the spell of a snowbound night drawing me closer to the divine. My simple prayer met with a generous response. I found myself thinking, “Why

Omtimes.com

do so many of us desire more spiritual connection, yet find it so difficult?” OMTIMES: Yes— why is it that we all are searching for a connection, and yet struggle to make that connection? The yearning for a spiritual connection is innate in all human beings. It is our mythology about God that makes it seem difficult. In reality, the higher power is easily reached, as I was discovering. The simplest prayers, I was finding, are heard and answered. I wanted a book that reflected the gentleness and ease of spiritual connection. Taking pen to page, I would sit nightly in my writing room, looking out at the juniper and piñon and I would ask, “What do I need to say? What do my readers need to hear?” To put it simply, I asked to be of service. Curled in my chair, notebook in hand, I wrote what I “heard.” And what I heard was often soothing. “Dear One, bring me your troubles,”

I wrote. “I take great joy in untangling your complicated life.” As the prayers unfolded, I found myself with a sense of optimism. As I asked for guidance, higher forces answered. “I illuminate your difficulties. I give you a lantern heart… Your path becomes broad and clear. I bring you clarity and grace.” The guidance that I received was gentle. OMTIMES: These prayers seem to make it feel easier to connect with a higher power— why do you think that is? Julia Cameron: The simplicity of these prayers created an easy pathway to and from God. It has been said that the only scoffers at prayer are those who haven’t tried it enough. These entries invited the uninitiated to take a flyer into spiritual realms. I found my own sense of spiritual connection deepening as I wrote. As I aimed to ease my own disquietude, I found myself easing the anxiety of my imagined readers. As the

reader addresses God, God, in turn, addresses the reader. I found the “still, small voice” to be amplified by these prayers. God’s voice is always simple, gentle and direct. I came to believe that if my passage met that criterion, it would touch the souls of those who read them. Writing nightly, I found myself reaching two directions: first to God, and second to my reader. As I asked “What next?” the answers came to me, and my prayers covered a wide variety of situations. “Little One, You have lost a beloved.” “Hurried One, You pray for guidance but then rush on.” I found myself addressing a wide variety of situations. “Nervous One, Your nerves are frayed.” “Little One, You are tired, and that is hard.” OMTIMES: Did you share this work with anyone as you were writing it? Julia Cameron: As I wrote, I became increasingly conscious of the guidance I was receiving.

Omtimes.com

At the midpoint of the book, I decided to share my prayers with a friend. “I love them,” she breathed. “They’re so simple, but straight to the point.” Encouraged, I wrote on, sharing my prayers with a small group of far flung friends as I wrote. I was discovering that using these prayers moved us into what seekers call “conscious contact.” Setting aside our difficulties, we discovered an ease in communion. God was not distant and difficult; rather, God was near and easy. Increasingly, we felt that the portal to spirituality was joy, not suffering. I wrote nightly during the long Santa Fe winter. Writing a prayer, a day, I moved towards spring. Trees budded in an unseasonably warm March. Light lingered longer. Whether as a result of my prayers or the season’s turning, I found myself feeling less isolated. I wrote, “Little One, You are never alone, never abandoned.” Increasingly, I believed this to be true. The book I wrote to soothe

Omtimes.com

myself and others was doing its job. The nightly blanket of darkness felt comforting. The moon felt like God’s gift, serene and steady. I wrote, “A loving bond unites us.” I wrote, “Rest assured that our words for you are not mere fantasy. Our connection is real, and it brings you great comfort.” Reading over what I had written, I found grace and dignity in the prayers. They were not without humor, but the humor was gentle. “Little One, Learn from your animal companions.” “Messy One, Bring order to your surroundings.” “Restless One, Learn to sit quietly.” Addressing the reader intimately, the prayers forged a connection. The bond between human and divine was real. I did not doubt their guidance. Sharing the prayers with my friends, I found that they, too experienced connection and relief. “The prayers are lovely,” one friend told me, “and they feel

like they’re mine.” I was delighted with this response. Writing the prayers, I had felt closely connected to the divine. Sharing the prayers, I felt I shared that connection. Their comfort was real, as I soon had the chance to find out. “We’re due for snow,” a friend told me in mid-May, and sure enough, eighteen inches of snow arrived overnight. As the flakes fell, I found myself feeling comforted. I had finished writing the little book, and I found that its life lessons had indeed taught me. Far from feeling isolated and alone in my perch up the mountain, I found myself feeling blessed and comforted. OMTIMES: Did you use these prayers as comfort for yourself even after you had finished writing them? Julia Cameron: As I read

what I had written— “Little One, Surrender your sense of urgency. There is no emergency. Trust God,” I found myself in agreement with the prayers. Although I knew I had written them myself, upon reading them, the prayers seemed to be dictated from a higher consciousness. I had written “Lonely One, We are with you at all times, although you seldom sense our presence. We are by your side, closer than your breath.” Reading this, I did sense higher forces hovering near. Satisfied that the little book was successful in its goal to soothe and comfort, I phoned my publisher, Joel Fotinos. “Joel,” I told him, “It seems I’ve written a little book. Would you like to hear some of it?” “I’d like that,” Joel said, and so I read to him from what I had written. “Little One, There is a divine plan of goodness for you. We guard and guide you.” “Little One, Ask us to prosper you.” “Little One, Come

Omtimes.com

to us for abundance.” Joel listened quietly. I continued. “Frightened One, Come to us with your fears.” “Little One, You feel small as the events in your life loom large.” “Fearful One, You face your day with apprehension… Stop your anxiety. Your soul is safe and protected.” Joel listened quietly. I read to him for a dozen minutes, then I paused. “I’m calling this book Life Lessons,” I told him. “I like that,” Joel said across the miles between us. “I’d like to have this book.” And so the little book that began on a cold and snowy night finished on the first night of summer. I was delighted with Joel’s response, and I hoped it boded well for the little book’s future. Putting myself into bed that night, I turned once more to the prayers, I read, “Little One, Let yourself believe. As you ask us to come to you, we do. Feel our presence. We are real. When you reach to us, we reach back. When you speak to us, we answer. There are higher forces that intend you good. This is a fact. Accept us as reality. Come to us, and many blessings come back

Omtimes.com

to you.” Reading the words of higher forces, I drifted to sleep feeling comforted. It is my hope that the sense of comfort that I felt will be felt by much more. OMTIMES: Can this book be used in conjunction with The Artist’s Way? Julia Cameron: The prayers contained in Life Lessons parallel the lessons contained in The Artist’s Way. Both books, used together, help us to forge a spiritual path. The essays of The Artist’s Way expand on the ideas formulated more simply in the prayers. I recommend using the books in conjunction, according to the reader’s mood. OMTIMES: What is your hope for the reader of this book? Julia Cameron: I intended this book to be soothing, and I believe that it is. It is my hope that readers will be comforted. When I share the prayers on an individual basis, I find people responding with hope and relief. “Little One…You are grounded and safe” the book concludes, and I know this to be true.

Innovative new approaches to Healing as well as holistic methods for dealing with health issues and personal growth

Reiki The Basics of Our Universal Life Force by Sunanda Sharma

The Universal Life Force and Power of Reiki The first symbol of Reiki is Choku Rei. The general meaning of Choku Rei is: “Place the power of the universe here. Omtimes.com

Use the power symbol to increase the power of Reiki. We can also use it for protection. See it as a light switch that has the intention to instantly boost your ability to channel Reiki energy. Draw or visualize the symbol in front of you and you will have instant access to more healing energies. Choku Rei also gives the other symbols more power when they are used together. Reiki Power Symbol and Energy The symbol can be used any time during a treatment but it is especially effective if it is used in the beginning of a session to empower the Reiki energy or when used at the end of a session to close the session and seal off the Reiki energies. The Reiki power symbol is, as I have said before, mainly a power switch but you can also assign it further uses. Remember it is always your intention that governs what happens. If you want to add new “functions to the Power symbol then just have a clear

statement and intention of what it is you want the symbol to do and it will do it for you. Some Uses of the First Reiki Power Symbol Increase the power of your healing abilities; use it as a light switch. (Draw or visualize Choku Rei in front of you or draw it in your hands if you want.) You can focus the Reiki energies (like a looking glass) on a specific point of the body. (Draw the symbol directly on the spot being treated.) Increase the power of the other symbols. (Draw it before drawing the other symbols.) One can use the Power symbol to close a space around the receiver and to stop the energies received to disappear from the body. (Draw it above the body with the intention of sealing the healing process.) The Power symbol can be used to spiritually clean a room from negative energy, to leave it in light and make it a holy place. (Draw or visualize the symbols on all the walls, ceiling and floor with the

Omtimes.com

intent to energize the room.) You can also clean crystals and other objects from negative energies. (Draw the power symbol above or on the crystal/ object with the intent of cleansing it and restoring it to its original state. Hold the object in your hands and “give it Reiki (or send it Reiki from a distance if it is too big to hold).) Protect yourself from negative energies (from people you treat or people you meet). (Draw or visualize the Reiki Power symbol in front of you with the intent of being totally protected.) Protect yourself, your children, your spouse, your house and other things you value. (Draw Choku Rei directly on the object/person you want to protect with the intent to protect him/her/it from harm.) Since Reiki works on all different levels of existence it will naturally also give protection on all levels of existence. Power Symbol and Universal Force Combine These are just a few uses. You

Omtimes.com

can also use your own intuition and imagination to find other uses for the Reiki Power symbol - Choku Rei. There are no limits to what you can do. The power is all in your mind; let your clear intention guide the function of the symbols. It is traditional to draw Choku Rei anti-clockwise (from left to right). You can draw it clockwise. There is no right or wrong way; it is your intention that decides the function so just do what feels best for you. The horizontal line represents the Reiki source. The vertical line symbolizes the energy flow, and the spiral represents the seven chakras. Five Urban Sacred Signs and Their Messages At one time or another, we have all wondered if the bird at the window or the coins that we continually find are more than random

circumstance. In our heart and gut we feel with certainty that someone or something is watching over us and sending us a message. A surge of energy may flow up the spine and the hair on the arms may rise with intuitive recognition. A simple sense of knowing and feelings of love and comfort often alert us to the presence of a sacred sign. However, all too often we limit our awareness of sacred signs to the natural world. While we may become aware of a message within the formation of a cloud, a feather or butterfly landing on our path, sacred signs and messages can also manifest through inanimate objects and things. Everything and anything in our environment can be used by a higher power and presence as a messenger. All things can reveal guidance from the unseen. If you

live in a more urban or residential area where your contact with nature is limited, a higher presence and power is still present. The universe is both chatty and clever and has unlimited ways of communicating with us. Here are a few sacred signs that we might encounter in our everyday environment and their possible meaning. Windows Being Cleaned Seeing windows being cleaned on a building can indicate a need to achieve clarity about ourselves and a situation, especially as it relates to our career, life purpose or activity with others. We may not be perceiving our true gifts and abilities. Take some time to focus on what you truly want and be true to yourself. The cleaning of windows may also indicate that we may not see another or a

Omtimes.com

situation objectively; a sign of clouded perception. Balloons Encountering balloons may be a message to enjoy and celebrate the small things in life with a childlike sense of wonder. They may also be telling us to shed our worries and stress and rise above the troubling and mundane ups and downs of life. Happiness and good news is coming your way. Workers on a Telephone Pole Encountering work happening on a cable or telephone pole may be a sign of communication and the ability to understand and engage with others. This may be a message telling us that we have the innate ability to influence and impact others. It might

Omtimes.com

also be message encouraging us to reach out and expand our friendships or increase networking opportunities. If you have been wondering whether to contact someone, this is a Yes sign. Grand Opening Noticing a grand opening sign is a message of transformation and emergence. A new you is unfolding and awaits expression. It is time for your authentic self to step out into the world and share your unique and special gifts. Moving Van Encountering a moving van is a sign that it is time to make a drastic change. This may have to do with our goals, desires, career or health or a relationship. This may also be a sign to change our perspective, or view of reality. Let go of the

beliefs and thoughts that may be limiting and hindering our progress. If you are thinking of moving or selling a home, this is a positive sign. Messages from a Higher Presence While all things can convey a message from a higher presence and power, it is important to listen within. This can verify whether or not what we encounter is truly a sacred sign. The universe always responds to a request. If you have recently looked to the heavens for comfort or guidance, pay attention to the meaningful encounters or synchronicities that unexpectedly come your way. When we have a decision or choice to make or are experiencing a challenge in areas such as career, finances

and relationships, sacred signs are more prevalent. In addition, if you happen upon something that seems to draw your attention or perk your interest when you are missing or thinking of another who has passed over, this may be a sign from him or her. Trust that tingle in your heart and spontaneous knowing, if something feels like a sacred sign, it probably is. Yajna, Feeding the Eternal Fire Within by Baba Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

The Eternal Fire and Our Universal Responsibility In contemplating the eternal fire, we enter a new phase of evolution. Here, a massive churning occurs globally to allow the negative forces to expose their nakedness. At some point, we turn toward Omtimes.com

the positive force of change that will sustain us through time. Then, the golden gates will open for the human civilization to bathe in the light of their own Spirit, the Soul. For this golden era to come, we all have to work. We all must participate, and offer our oblation in the fire of universal sacrifice of eternal fire. We do this as part of our practice of meditation. What do we mean by “To offer our oblation in the fire of universal sacrifice of eternal fire? The Eternal Fire Within There is an eternal fire, which represents our innate divine Self, which is self-illumined. It is represented symbolically as fire or light. There is the fire ritual called yajna, in our Hindu tradition. During this ritual, we offer different kinds of oblations like ghee and other herbal things with aromatic ingredients into the fire. Fire is the purest element of Mother Nature who takes our offering to the universal positive forces (called Deities,

according to Hindu tradition there are different celestial deities who govern the world of activities) thereby we reinforce the positive energy field. The fire ritual, or yajna, thus is the most powerful way to create an inner and outer cleansing of the negative forces and to also activate the positive energies all around. This is an effective way to cleanse the earth of all the negative dumped by humans around the planet in a mad rush to glorify the ego and fill it with the devil of greed. Performing the Inner Fire Ritual We can all practice this inner fire ritual. Whenever we encounter a painful situation (karma), then what we do in our daily meditation is not curse our destiny or any god who creates this kind of destiny for us. But, we raise one step up and lift our mind to the plane of acceptance and gratitude. We feel inside that “I am being cleansed by the fire of yajna inside of me, that yajna is my awareness. I am aware that the past is coming to me to claim its due, and that I am ready to offer it without any grumble Omtimes.com

or complaint for I know once I clear these debts my heart is purged of all the negative forces and I soar high in the spirit of pure joy of happiness. We offer our oblation of our karma into the fire of awareness so that it burns off. Then, what remains is a pure light of truth that is Dharma. Once we have Dharma established through awareness we are a free soul, and now we move as water. Like water, placed into any container, we can move through any hurdle and yet remain fluid and full of life. Eventually we will meet the Ocean that is expansion of our own Cosmic Consciousness. The Eternal Elements of Fire and Water We are water, but we are ocean, too. We are a bubble, but we are ocean, too. The froth and bubble evolve from the ocean and then dissolve into ocean. Our karma, or painful situations, evolve from the ocean of life, from the One, and then the cycle of births and deaths, and the drama of transmigration of souls. This continues till the soul is back to the ocean of life, where there is Omtimes.com

no more bubble. Yes, when we consciously withdraw our participation from any negative conversation within our own mind or in the outer world, we are allowing the yajna-fire (the fire of the soul) to glow and illumine our inner world, spreading vibrations of peace all around. This is our individual responsibility: to douse the fire of negativity that is attempting to engulf humanity and consequently Mother Earth. Baby steps are all that we need! CHANGING FOR SUCCESS

Ascension and the Great Transformation “Ascension became one of the most used word in the spiritual world especially prior 2012. Obviously, the event from December 21,

Omtimes.com

2012, linked with Mayan prophecies attracted the attention of the whole world, spiritual or not. Thousands of spiritual practitioners from all over the world were getting very excited by the window of changed opened by the alignment of Mother Earth with the Father Sun and the Galactic Sun. People from all over the world were literally prepare for a planetary ascension. However, it is not clear if the people who expected it, really understood the ascension process itself. On December 21, 2012 thousands of people visited Yucatan, the place where the Maya prophecies came to the world and Mayapan - the last great Maya capital. People from all over the world were visiting Maya pyramids and literally believed that the world will end and we are going to move, to transcend and ascend to another dimension. Useless to say

the disappointment that followed the next day when all the believers saw that we were still here, we were still on the third dimensional Mother Earth. Energy Change in Mother Earth First, we need to clarify something very important. The Mayans and all the other indigenous nations, were talking about a change in the energy of Mother Earth. A change in the energy of Mother Earth would trigger automatically a change in our bodies. This change is literally happening right now. We are a “generation of transition. We were born in a male energy, a masculine vibration, within the years that preceded the change, and we are part now of a great process of transformation; a profound conversion to the feminine vibration, to the female energy.

Omtimes.com

Great Transformation at the DNA Level We can easily say that this is part of the ascension process in a sense that all life on Mother Earth must go through this transformation, to this transition. What we really need to understand is that the transition takes place at our basic level: in our DNA, in our energy and in our subconscious mind. The only energy that is not going to change in our body is the energy of the heart. Because the heart does not have any challenge to transform and change. The heart energy is unified: masculine or feminine is irrelevant for her. Our hearts have the unique capacity to adapt instantly to any change or transformation that happens within us. It is not just a capacity to adapt but it is something much deeper: the heart is the quiet leader that brings you in a very elegant way to the new vibration and energies. The heart is not affected at all by the transformation because she knows that

Omtimes.com

this a natural process and we are part of the Universe. Against the Tide of Change During Great Transformation Any fight against the change is going to have an effect in our lives; it is like swimming against the natural river flow. This can be dangerous and painful. It can bring us to exhaustion and extreme tiredness, to burnout and extreme physical or mental fatigue. It is like cleaning our emotions: our society is doing much harm by preventing our joys and our tears. Our society does not understand that it is healthy to cry and to laugh. It is natural, it is medicine for the body and mind. If we start crying in the middle of the street the crowd will gather immediately and try to comfort us: “Don’t cry! Stop crying! Nobody has a clue why we are crying, what happened, what triggered our tears, but rest assured that all will try to stop our tears.

And the reason is not because they want to help us but that if we go on crying, they will start crying too. In fact, that they are afraid of their own transformation, their inner cleaning, their own tears. They fight a natural process that happens for the good of the body, mind and spirit. Adapting from One Energy to Another It is understandable to see the long process of adaptation from one energy to another. It is perfectly reasonable to see how we are changing from the logic, from the rationality to intuition and creativity. We are in a new era where nomind means intelligence, when you must relax your body and let it fall without any effort, without your mind controlling. It is the time when you go with the river flow without fighting or questioning why is happening. This is the great transformation within process that the Mayans are talking about. It is a good cleansing of

the mind of all inhibitions of the past. Remember that laughter and tears at times of great transformation can help tremendously. Tears will take out all the suffering and torment that is hidden inside of us. Laughter will take out all that is preventing our bliss and joy. Once we remember to cry and laugh, we will be surprised by the freshness and the fragrance and the beauty within us.

5 Reasons Why Having Patience Is Hard; And Why We Should Practice It More by Cori Savenelli

Practicing Patience is Not Easy Reactions to being forced to have patience range from simple annoyances to down-right anger. Here are some reasons why and how overcoming the displeasure of being patient and looking at it differently can change your life.

Omtimes.com

Patience Forces Us to Be Present Without Certainty It can be difficult enough being “in the moment” (while mindful and centering ourselves) while engaged in routine. Throwing uncertainty into the mix creates an open space in our energy for anxiety, worry and possibly depression. Patience is Inconvenient Our human “being” likes to know what is happening. It likes to prepare and get ahead. We want things to be very convenient with as little stress as possible. So, we associate patience with inconvenience. Patience Can Sometimes Lead to Assumption Who among us has never fell victim to engaging in assuming, whether regarding a relationship, a financial situation or another person’s motives. Having to be patient for something creates the potential for thousands of assumptions about the conclusion of the event or situation. Our range of theories span from the probable to the ridiculous. And it fills our heads and spirits with confusion and frustration.

Thus, having patience can to unintended stress. Patience Takes Away Our Power and Control Sometimes emotional, psychological or even physical pain can be a direct result of waiting. In situations where patience is required for something meaningful and personal, our survival and protective instincts kick in and we are tethered by an energy of helplessness, particularly involving anything that will greatly impact our lives. With this sometimes comes a feeling of being potentially thwarted in some way. It can create an unsettling and nervous atmosphere for ourselves and those around us. Patience Makes Time and Creates Space for Options Sometimes people don’t like to have too many choices. Those who adhere to the notion that destiny intervenes can often become uneasy when there is time to “choose.” Patience creates an unsettling feeling around loss of control, but also around too much control.

Omtimes.com

Consider this scenario: Man applies for dream job; man waits one week; another job opportunity presents itself; man waits to interview for the second opportunity while waiting for the news of the first; another week goes by; man interviews for second job as a back-up; man is offered second job. Now he faces a choice. Does he accept the job or wait around for news about the first? Choices can be just as frustrating as not having any. Patience Versus Impatience These are a few of the top frustrations around “patience” and I am sure there are many more. But why is it so important for us to be patient? Why is it a so-called “virtue?” The symptoms of impatience are catalysts for personal growth if we accept and harness the lessons. Impatience will impact each person in a way that is specific and personal. The lack of control of control, abundance of control, hurried lifestyle, lack of mindfulness or presence, need for extreme routine or propensity for indecision, will

Omtimes.com

be poked at and challenged in a meaningful and universal way. There is also a more spiritual directive concerning impatience and control that suggests that by gaining self-control, which is the foundation of most of these symptoms, outside forces affect us less. Our fields become clearer, and our spirits more enlightened. The difference between selfcontrol and control concerns the way we handle outside situations. Having self-control will ultimately determine how we handle delays, patience and uncertainty. It is through these daily practices that we become more aware of ourselves and how we impact others. The Importance of Choosing Your Vibration Over Your Vibration Choosing You It is very easy to underestimate the importance of keeping our own personal energetic vibration at a high level. There

Omtimes.com

will be times in life when we undergo hardship or trauma or even states somewhat above those, such as annoyance or frustration, but that are still well below the highest states of energy levels. As we have come to live a physical experience of polarity here on earth, we will come to experience many different vibratory levels. When we think about what is at the top of the scale, the highest vibrating energy, we think of love, joy and appreciation. As the Law of Attraction states that like attracts like, and with this universal law operating at all times whether we are consciously working with it or not, we are constantly attracting thoughts that match where our energy is vibrating. For example, if someone is often in the state of gratitude and appreciation, they meet experiences that cause them to think and feel at that same level. And conversely, if

someone is feeling low and depressed, they meet with more of the same. The Powerful Tool of Our Minds Our minds are a very powerful tool, and one that we can forget that we have control over. We are not the thoughts that go around in our heads daily, we are merely the thinker of them. So, the more we can become a student of our own thought processes and the more we can stay in awareness of when things seem to go out of control in our minds and then consciously refocus them, the more we can choose what we are thinking about and thus what we are attracting into our minds, bodies and lives. Someone might wake up feeling anxious one morning due to their own life circumstances. The anxiety could be merely a bit of worry but nothing debilitating. However, if their energy level

Omtimes.com

stays at that vibration, more thoughts will be attracted that match it. And as we are all connected, one may begin also attracting the energy of those around them or of loved ones that are also feeling anxious. One might find themselves worrying about their health for no concrete reason. But because they woke up feeling anxious about their own life, the energy of a loved one going through some health issues may be attracted into their own vibration. Vibration and Energy are Important to Know It is very important to be mindful of where our own energy is. Not that we cannot acknowledge and process what we are feeling, but to do so with the awareness and vigilance that we will eventually attract more of that same feeling. So, when we are feeling worried, or fearful or frustrated, it would be in

Omtimes.com

our best interest to also put some extra power behind a gratitude practice or to spend more time meditating or doing some energy clearing work. Chakra balancing exercises are also very good to help clear our energetic field. We can easily forget, especially if someone is an empath, that we will pick up on others’ low vibration thoughts and energy when our own is low. We might find ourselves feeling quite angry or in a bad mood for no reason. Upon tracing back our own thought patterns, we find that a small thing annoyed us earlier in the day. These thoughts attract more of the same. It’s very important to do those thought traces when we are feeling things that do not seem to be our own. Or, in other words, when the feeling does not have any logical reasoning when measured against our life circumstances.

Receiving and Sending Your Vibration Mindfully So, when we are feeling good, happy, light and joyful, we send that energy out to others to pick up on. Thus, we are open to that high energy from those around us. And as all of it is subject to the snowball effect, we can realize on a grand scale the importance of keeping our vibration high as it relates to the shift in consciousness on the planet now. Again, the suggestion is not to push down or ignore when we feel bad. When we do feel bad we can be aware of it and shine some light on it and it will move on. All states are transient. It’s what we resist that will grow and shift our thoughts and energy into places that can move us into the darkness. Allowing the lower-level energies to pass through and then consciously putting our attention on the things that

move us into higher vibration not only serves us, but also our loved ones and ultimately humankind. About the Author Heather O’Neill is a personal life coach and Reiki Master Teacher. What Shall We Tell the Children? by Tess Pender

Important Steps from Recovery Offer Clues about Truth Donald Trump was inaugurated as President of the United States! What shall we tell our children about this?

Omtimes.com

Members of the ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) Anonymous 12-Step Program spend much of their meeting time talking about their lifelong fight to discern reality; to discover the truth underlying all the “white lies” they were fed as children: Mommy’s tired and that’s why she’s sleeping; Daddy hit you because you are bad. Reclaiming reality is an important part of recovery, even when painful (no, mommy sleeps all the time and daddy hits you because they are drunks!) Tell the Children: They Know When They Hear Lies Children instinctively know when they hear lies. They see that the truth is hidden, and they are driven to discover it. And when they do find it, they are not nearly as damaged by the ugly truth as they are by the pretty lies! So, the answer must be, we tell the children the truth! **She was 12 in 1978, the year

the Briggs Initiative was on the ballot in California. Sleepy and grumpy, she asked her mother at the end of another meeting planning ways to defeat the homophobic initiative, “Why do you care? You aren’t gay, and even if you were, you aren’t a teacher, so why do you care about this?” (The Briggs Initiative would require that gay teachers be fired.) A History of Painful Lessons Leads to Activism When her mother explained the reasons for her activism, the child painstakingly wrote in calligraphy the answer, and posted it on her bedroom wall. Her mother explained with this quote from Martin Niemoller: “First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak outBecause I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.” ** Many years later, her twin teen-aged daughters told their grandmother, “Our friend’s grandparents voted for Trump.” Grandma (she of the quote) said “I’m so very sorry for your friend that her grandparents are racists. They replied “No, they aren’t racist, they are just old.” Our Time Again to Fight Evil at Any Age Grandma replied, “Ruth Bader Ginsberg is old. I’m old. People who vote for someone who despises women and Muslims are not old - when they knowingly cast their precious ballot for an avowed racist they are racists. Now is your time to show the courage of the suffragettes, the Underground Railroad heroes,

Omtimes.com

the Civil Rights marchers who ended segregation. This is your time to fight evil, and to have the courage to stand up for your beliefs. Wear a safety pin and promise you will always stand up for the rights and dignity of vulnerable people.” The twins returned to school and talked to their friends. They decided they wanted to work for women’s and human rights. See the Women’s March in Sacramento? There they are, marching with their classmates, wearing the “pussy hats” they knitted. Tell the Children: Be Brave What shall we tell the children? We shall tell them that this man full of hate was NOT elected by anywhere near a majority of people in this country, so they needn’t be consumed with fear. We shall explain that he is only in the White House because of a law passed long ago, during slavery, designed to give extra

power to the slave-owning states. Assure them that we, the decent people who are the majority in this country, are even now working to put a fair system in place, so we will never again be ruled by someone who appeals only to the hatred of a few. Point to how the entire country has become more loving and accepting, and explain that this “president is an anomaly! We shall tell them that every generation is tested, and now it is their turn. We shall tell them to be brave and steadfast, and to follow their hearts. Since they are spiritual beings having a human experience, we can tell them the test of that experience is their willingness to face danger in support of their ideals. We shall tell them they follow in the steps of a long line of courageous individuals, including Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr, freedom riders, Vietnam War protestors, Gloria Steinem -- all fought

against the hatred of a few. What shall we tell the children? We shall tell them how very proud they make us, with their marches and pussy hats and phone calls! We shall tell them the truth. Relationships The interconnectiveness among all human beings and, consequently, the relationships among us are the focus of this section. The dynamics of the web of connections we make is one of the most prominent aspects of human existence: how we interlace with each other’s existence in a meaningful way.

Is Marriage a Cause of Loss of Separate Identity? by Marcia Naomi Berger

The Idea of Losing One’s Separate Identity “No man is an island,” said 17th-century author John Donne. This is true in marriage. Spouses do become interdependent in many ways.

Omtimes.com

But this does not force each of them to give up their separate identity. It is important to keep one’s individuality after tying the knot. Yet, none of us is totally self-sufficient. In fact, just about everyone depends on car mechanics, airplane pilots, farmers, friends, accountants, therapists, and others. Certainly, in a good marriage we rely on our marriage partner. We respect each other’s individuality, and connect as romantic partners and as lifetime teammates. Balancing Independence and Interdependence Here is how one wife explains how she views her marriage: Amy says, “I think of my marriage as a three-stranded braid. One strand is me, a separate person. Another is Michael. The third strand is our relationship.” She is

describing her marriage as a union of two individuals who are both independent and interdependent. Until recently, the roles of men and women were fixed and interdependent. Usually the husband earned the money (or brought home the kill). His wife had a separate identity, where she cooked and kept the home fires burning. Today, in many good marriages, spouses are interdependent in different ways. Either partner can be the “provider” or homemaker. Often, both jobs are shared. Some couples have “commuter” marriages, living in different states or on different coasts in the U.S. because of where they work. They may spend weekends and vacations together. Other couples are business partners. They may share an office at home or

Omtimes.com

elsewhere, which means they are likely to experience plenty of togetherness and interdependence. People also need different amounts of time spent together and separately order to feel good about themselves and their relationship. Concerns to Discuss Before Marrying So, when seriously thinking about marriage, it is time to talk about how the two of you want to function as a team and who will do what independently. Sounding each other out about whatever is important to each of you is helpful. A few examples: How will you deal with money concerns? Who will be handle different household responsibilities, such as cooking, shopping, cleaning,

Omtimes.com

laundry, and gardening? Child care? Diaper changing? Except for who currently gets to bear children, just about everything is negotiable. The more you think through what you will rely on each other for in advance, the more realistic will be your expectations after marriage. You and your future spouse can customize your interdependence in ways that honor your needs and preferences as individuals. Separate Identity and Staying Connected After Marrying After marriage, many spouses find it easy to take each other for granted and forget to nurture their relationship. Some say that they’ve drifted apart, which means they are now functioning more as

totally separate identities than as partners who feel connected to each other. Keeping a marriage good means, among other things, maintaining a balance of independence and interdependence that fits for both partners. Many couples also find that by holding a weekly “marriage meeting” they can reconnect. The simple agenda include a time to express appreciation, plan dates for just the two of them, coordinate chores, and resolve issues respectfully. The book, Marriage Meetings for Lasting Love: 30 Minutes a Week to the Relationship You’ve Always Wanted, gives step-by-step instructions for holding a marriage meeting. Marriage meetings foster a healthy balance

of interdependence and independence. While they provide a forum for spouses to relate interdependently, they also provide a space for each partner to express his or her feelings, thoughts, wants, and needs as a separate person. How Intuition Enhances Our Lives by Judi Lynch

Our Inner Guidance of Intuition Listening to our inner guidance can not only enhance our lives, it can absolutely save it. Many people have experiences that involve acting on something because of a “feeling or a dream in which there was a clear message. In many cases, they were correct. Sometimes Omtimes.com

anxiety and fear can cause confusion as to which is an actual message or possibly just imagination. Learning to be still so that we can hear the psychic connections in their true transmission is very important. Our spiritual connections need clearing to function properly. If we feel a lot of internal noise and issues surfacing on a regular basis, it is a good idea to examine how we can effectively take steps to help in healing past hurt and trauma. Clearing out the spaces in our hearts helps us to accept new ideas, people, and places. Our ability to connect with spirit will become brighter, our tone lighter, and our purpose clearer. This sustains our lives. Validation and Visualization Have Their Purpose Validation and trust happen over time, and we can reacquaint with our higher selves. It is part of our evolutionary process as humans to understand how these energies heal and communicate with us. This is what we truly need to know to be happy and healthy during our time on Earth. How we visualize

assistance is unique to each of us. It may be through prayer and religion. It may be through yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, and energy healing. In each of these choices there is a connection to source, love, energy, and guidance. Episodes of dĂŠjĂ vu allow us to know the energy of this experience. It feels like time slows down, or maybe even stops. The experience of climbing up to the top of a mountain range can elicit the feeling of having a thousand souls joining with you at the top. The energies of loving souls who have lived here and elsewhere, maybe other planets, are filled with knowledge they love to share. When our connections are flowing with energy from the higher frequencies, we can share in miraculous events. Intuition and Positive Visions Feeds Synchronicity Our psychic senses are alive inside our third eye centers which operate in unison with our crown chakra and pineal gland to help bring us information. This information comes in as visions of people, Omtimes.com

places, and things along with words, spoken or written, sounds, and smells. When we are in harmony with our metaphysical talents, it becomes like second nature to consult our intuitive tools to keep things flowing well. When we are in the flow of positive energy our close, personal connections can feel, hear, and see us in all our spiritual beauty. Synchronicity becomes a common occurrence. Decision making is easier when we begin to trust our senses more. The thoughts and feelings we dismiss previously are heard on a deeper level as we seek out ways to heal and sustain our lives as we grow and mature. The future can be a manifestation of our best thoughts and intentions. These work together in the higher frequencies if we continue to keep the vision alive. There will always be challenges, misunderstandings, and fear of what we can intuit without physically being able to see. But, as we evolve into our true selves as conscious beings, we will gain courage to realize our potential. Omtimes.com

Sharing Intuition and Our Spiritual Senses We can learn to share energy instead of demanding it or competing for it. Our intuition helps us with our integrity and decision making. It brings us hope, connection and inspiration. There can be incredible moments of clarity and insight just when it is needed. We learn and nurture our spiritual senses by discovering and nurturing them throughout our lives. When we listen and truly hear the supportive guidance offered in unconditional love, it reveals the beauty of our souls. Illumination: Animal Communication with Black by Lisa Shaw

Afterlife communication is a sacred encounter with an animal who has entered the next plane. Sometimes, the departure is swift and unexpected; while other times, it is the final step in of a long illness. In either case, animals exit (or appear to),

Omtimes.com

often leaving their humans behind with loneliness, fear, and misplaced guilt. A session assuages all those feelings and, through facilitated communication, assists the grieving process.

Black was a Truly Special Friend Hi LisaI recently lost my beloved cat and am having a really difficult time dealing with his transition. I truly believe he was my soul mate pet and not having him here is tearing me a part. So, I am feeling guilty and am, of course, wondering if we made the right decision. -- Jessica Hi Jessica. I’ve made contact with Black. He has a very quiet energy and I see his energy still in the house. The first thing that he showed me was light on the ceiling or light coming in through the window where his spirit comes to visit. If you see a sliver of light in the house, stop for a moment close your eyes and you’ll feel his energy. He is not at all upset about your having to make that decision.

Animals know that the physical life is temporary and that their soul moves on to another plane. But Black is showing me is that he will come back as a kitten that arrives almost as a gift, not one that you will be looking for. It will be a grey tabby with white markings. Of course, he knows how much you loved him and he loved you the same. He is showing me hangers in the closet, moving hangers in the closet and making noise. Was that someplace he liked to go? Black shows me a problem with vision and light. In the end, he was moving slowly and felt like a snail. He says he was ready to go because since shedding his body, he is able to move freely.

Jessica Responds to Black’s Messages Jessica responded: Thank you SO very much for making contact with Black and sharing everything with me. This helps give both my husband and I peace to know that he is not upset with us and that he was ready. Omtimes.com

The moving hangers makes me smile. He ‘loved’ the closet. He would run in the closet as soon as I opened the door and would explore as I looked for what I was going to wear that particular day and would stay in there with me until I was done. Back in October, we treated conjunctivitis in one of his eyes, but it reoccurred the week before his transition. Due to that, his eyes were pretty sensitive to light if he was in a dark room and I walked in and turned the light on. His eyes would eventually adjust, but he would squint for a minute or so. He was definitely moving very slow in his last few days, and that was totally not him. To think of him moving freely again makes me smile. Black showing you that he will come back as a grey tabby kitten with white markings makes my heart smile. I have been saying that I don’t think I will get another cat, but I will gladly receive the gift of that kitten with open arms.

Omtimes.com

I miss him so very much. Black was truly one of a kind. I will stop and close my eyes whenever I see a sliver of light coming in the house so I can feel his energy. Thanks again, Lisa. You are amazing and such a Godsend. If you would like a reading for your animal companion, please send a photo and a brief description of the issue you would like me to explore. Thanks!

Ask Michelle Whitedove

Dear Michelle, My friend is a very wise and compassionate woman and her husband calls her an “Old Soul” . Does this mean that she has reincarnated thousands of times to gain her wisdom?

THE COLUMN OF MICHELLE WHITEDOVE

Dearest, The term old souls does not necessarily reflect the number of incarnations the person has endured, but rather the amount of soul experiences gathered and learned from. That determines whether we are an old soul or a young soul: the depth of our learning.

The planet Earth is a big school house where souls learn important spiritual truths or lessons. The difficulty of life here is the reason that moral lessons are so much harder to learn; there are so many distractions and influences. Thus positive results are harder to achieve. Each soul takes a risk when coming here. We risk creating more karmic debt by forgetting who we really are as we descend from heaven so we can inhabit human form. Those souls that repeatedly come here to earth are greatly celebrated for their bravery – this is not an easy place to incarnate. There are many more enlightened stars and planets to choose. NOMADIC

Dear Michelle, I work in a psychiatric unit and have seen an increase in patients being admitted, as well as the severity of their disorder. Michelle, do you have any advice for me? I'm a counselor at the hospital. Thanks for all of your spiritual messages. Many blessings to you. IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Dearest Your unseen support team (God, Your Guardian Angels and your Spirit Guides) are your biggest allies. I’d advise that you shield up in prayer each morning before you head out the door. You should do prayers of gratitude and give thanks for your protection (body, mind and spirit). Call in your two Guardian Angels and ask them for guidance during your day. The Metatron Prayer, is a three dimensional prayer that I highly recommend You can find it on my website : http://www.michellewhitedove.com/link s-recommendations

You work in a complicated field with complex diagnosis where western medicine is limited to solutions of prescription medicine and some therapies. Using your intuition and prayer in tandem with your medical knowledge will help guide you. As you know, mental health issues can be caused by physiological imbalances, genetics, psycho-social problems that stem from abuse of drugs and alcohol, emotional, psychological problems but there are also issues of the soul which are never addressed. Possessions weather mild or dramatic have never been included in your basic mental health studies. But if you ask an experienced Vatican priest, he will tell you that the number of exorcisms are up. Doctors may prefer to call it nonsense. But there are too many well documented cases: some souls do suffer from demonic attacks. I say this only to bring awareness, these cases are rare. But you deal with aspects of darkness and delusions in the minds of men, so call in your guardians on a daily basis and let God be your guiding influence. OMTIMES

What Should I Name My Baby? Numerology Focus by Greer Jonas

Top Baby Naming Advice Parents Want to Know I see it happen often. Parents who are expecting lose sleep at night thinking about the right name for their baby. They consult baby books, look at lists on the computer, and check

Omtimes.com

numerology frequently. Often, parents are torn between what their head and heart tell them, not knowing how to best name their baby. “Here I am, 7 weeks to go until baby is due! I have been literally kept up at night thinking about her baby name. I look at numerology all the time, but am torn between head and heart, and just not knowing on what baby name to give her.” --Sara

Greer’s Response on Discovering Baby Names Greer: I get this question all the time. Trust in yourselves as the parents, the names will come! Yes, you can start looking at baby books and baby sites on the computer. I especially like the sites that have the meanings of the names. You can also expand your search to everywhere: street signs, store names, novels. The baby names will flow!

Once you have your names, I can help. I am not going to tell you what name you should use, but I can tell you what the vibration is and together we can look at what “baby” wants to call his or herself! Ultimately, he/she will tell you. You will know when you say the names out loud if it is a go. Naming Baby - a Karmic Connection Just be prepared, even when you are positive of the name, when baby comes out, you might discover that no one wants to call him/her the name you give them. Instead, everyone uses a nickname. (And sometimes the nickname is nothing like the original name). Readers, how many can relate? Naming your child is a karmic connection where all are affected. You may want your child to be outgoing or lively, but then must practice being alert, patient, and on your toes. Your job as parents is to

understand and respect your child’s inner self, even if they resist being precocious. That is your lesson as well--acceptance and allowing your child to sing his/her own unique song. Growth Number of the Baby Name One more thing to look at is the growth personality number of the baby’s name. You get this from adding all the numbers in the first name. This number represents how you grow in life. Learn more about the growth number at my site. The Baby Name My Parents Gave Me As an example of the gift of a name is the name my parents gave me. They knew nothing of numerology and were very practical and conservative types, not into anything I was into. But my mom liked different names and called me Greer (after an actress in the 50s called Greer Garson). It was

Omtimes.com

hard to live with that name early on, but I grew to love it because it is so different. Numerologically: Greer Denise Jonas has a vibration of 9/6/6 - kind, compassionate, and intuitive. As I am mostly called Greer Jonas - this vibration is 8/5/4 - much more grounded, out there and a leader. My growth number (add the numbers of Greer -7+9+9+5+5+9=35/3+5=8) is an 8. All about charismatic leadership and power. This is how I grow. (Gulp; not always easy for me to claim my power, but when I do, I thrive!) I have found this combination of numerological vibrations in my name very helpful as it gives me two sides of dealing with the world and encourages me to be out there even though a part of me just wants to please everyone. Perhaps my parents learned true compassion from me.

Personal Growth & Development

We grow as individuals as we face challenges and overcome life’s obstacles. This section is dedicated to helping you chart your course.

Are You Looking to Get Ahead? How Big is Our Dream? Getting ahead in life can seem impossible, but it is within our grasp. How might we take those whisperings of our inner voice and bring them out into the world? How big is our

Omtimes.com

dream? Would we like to write a book, create an album, give a concert as a solo artist? There are many ways to express our essence, or inner calling: from being a restaurant owner to a graphic designer, from being a healer to a top performer. Perhaps the question is, how can we stay on purpose with so many things pulling at us? So often, we set out to follow our calling, only to be side-tracked by our daily life. We end up placing our mind maps and grand ideas in our “important papers” file in the desk drawer. Slicing Down the Big Idea into Smaller Pieces We might think of our big idea like a pie or delicious cake. Start by dividing the project into small slices-12 slices, or milestones-that we can accomplish as part of a yearly project. From these 12 slices, we then break it down into about 20 steps a month. We can see how much more

manageable this is. When we define our path to success, it becomes less overwhelming. The Key in Getting Ahead is Taking Baby Steps Every song, article, or book is written line by line, page by page, hour by hour, and step by step. Consider this from Dr. Jean Houston, a scholar, philosopher and researcher in Human Capacities: “I really don’t like to write. I think writing is one of the most difficult tasks of all. You’re facing the blank computer, you’re facing the blank page..., and you’re hoping prose will emerge and it’s a sense that you have to pull up from yourself all manner of qualities, all manner of selves, really. So, it makes sense that the local self is in resistance because it really doesn’t want you to turn the page on your own history. You are off on a desert island of yourself.”

Omtimes.com

Jean’s secret is writing a chapter a month. At the end of the year, she gives it to her editor and it is released as a book. She is considered a prolific writer and has 26 published top-selling books. Jean understands the secret behind the formula, Think Big, Act Small. Finish a song a month and you have an album a year. Finish a chapter a month and you have a book a year. It is that simple.

Advice in Getting Ahead It is best to be practical when looking forward to a getting ahead on a project, so here is some advice to keep in mind: Be Sure to Set a Realistic Goal Self-publishing makes it possible to write a minibook and put it into the marketplace. Likewise, musicians can produce a single instead of an album. Musically, more people are buying favorite tracks at iTunes, rather

Omtimes.com

than full albums. Rather than be frustrated, you have the power to be more assured of your direction by setting goal steps that are realistic. Realistic goals give us a feeling of accomplishment. Instead of being hard on ourselves and reacting in frustration, we can act with more assurance in tune with our steps. Do Not Be Afraid to Fail Like the cake example earlier, we break down our project into small steps. Sometimes, we take two steps forward and then fall back and sit a while. Everyone falls and fails, so it is important to not be afraid to stumble along the way. The important part is to move on. In the words of Charles F. Kettering, one of the most ingenious inventors of modern times: “Virtually nothing comes out right the first time. Failures, repeated failures, are

finger posts on the road to achievement. The only time you don’t want to fail is the last time you try something.... One fails forward toward success.” Also - “It is not a disgrace to fail. Failing is one of the greatest arts in the world.”

about the fact that we can do anything we set our mind to. Give our full attention to every step along the path, and grant ourselves encouragement and applause for all we accomplish in getting ahead. About the Author

Be attentive, so that each step takes us in the direction of our dreams and towards our goal. Leave the Role of Superhero Behind A big factor in getting ahead with our goals is the idea of operating in the role of a superhero. We envision moving through life discouragement-free or riskfree. Growth is a balancing act, full of constant change and adjustment. The best trick is getting all the body and mind systems coordinated and working together. So, enjoy being simple and humble. We must allow ourselves to drop the superhero role. Be excited

New Beginnings Happen After the End There are so many aphorisms about endings and beginnings: “One door closes, another door opens.

Omtimes.com

“Every end is a new beginning.” “A good beginning makes a good ending.” All of these new opportunities sound wonderful; but, what about the time between the endings and beginnings? How do we move through the void of unknown? The space between endings and beginnings are where the juicy things are born. The unexpected, the miracles happen. This is the time when we figure out what we’re made of, who truly stands next to us. This is when we learn surrender, and quit resisting. But it can be painful! It’s scary, unpredictable, anxietyprovoking, self-worth crushing. We question everything. Why is this happening? Why ME? The space between endings and new beginnings can be compared to a seed’s dormancy period, before germinating and bursting through the ground. The dormancy period is a time for us to go within, creating silence, accessing awareness,

digging into our soul lessons, and creating ideal conditions for illuminating our path. Seeds of the Future in Basic Elements Certain necessary conditions are required to break dormancy in order for germination to begin, such as water, oxygen, temperature, and soil. Let’s imagine us being the seeds, in dormancy, creating ideal conditions for new beginnings, breaking dormancy, and where fresh growth begins to see daylight. Water (Inner Work) Seeds are generally dehydrated before germinating; and therefore, need water to become active. During the dormancy in our life paths, our inner soul seeds are dehydrated. Our souls are thirsty for inner work to quench our desire for meaning, purpose, and enlightenment. Inner work includes uncovering our values, aligning with our truths, being the observer of our thoughts, and attuning to

our higher selves. We fertilize our spirit by listening to music, looking at seductive artwork, absorbing nature. By honoring our health with movement and nourishment, we make our body the incubator of our inner seeds. We dig in and cultivate a community of harmonious souls in which to share and spread our lights. All while enriching our seeds with selfempathy, internal curiosity, compassion, and self-care. Oxygen (Trust) Seeds need oxygen to germinate, just as we need oxygen for life. We can compare oxygen to trust, creating an atmosphere for germination, or new beginnings. We breathe in oxygen (trust), involuntarily. Knowing what’s best for ourselves. We turn off the noise and distractions so we can hear our inner trust. In order to trust, we must let go of grasping for the deceptive illusion

of control. We must trust ourselves to know that as our path illuminates; assured to know the steps to take. Light (Hope) For some seeds, light is not necessary in the early stages of germination; however, light plays a major role in a plant thriving in the later stages of its life. Light can be substituted for hope, for the seeds of our soul. Some of us believe that hope is unrealistic, Pollyanna, or naïve. On the contrary, hope allows us to dig into our tenacity and tap into the knowing that there is a solution. There is a brilliant germination period ahead. Sometimes the dormancy period is so nebulous and lengthy that hope is all we have to survive. When hope is negligible, fear can take over. Fear can impede our soul’s germination, if we allow it to grow. However, we can remember a statement by Maya Angelou, “Fear and hope cannot occupy the same space.”

Temperature (Faith) The temperature of the soil can prevent seeds from deteriorating; thus, not being able to germinate. Faith can prevent our soul seeds from deteriorating from worry, or the need to know all the answers. Having faith can keep us in the present moment. Having faith can defy physical manifestations, and allow our soul’s greater plan to unfold. Just like when a seed is ready to burst out of dormancy. It’s unpredictable, variable, and simply happens when it is time. We wake up and suddenly, we are out of our dormant period. We don’t know exactly when it will be; but, our faith reminds us that the grace of new beginnings will open to us in perfect timing. Soil (Soul) The soil in which seeds germinate need nutrients, minerals, proper pH, texture, and compaction. For soul germination, we need soil that is full of humor, curiosity, patience, gratitude, and

an open heart to serve as nourishment. Remember, the dormancy and germination periods are opportunities to get naked with your soul. It’s a time to reassess, transition, and cleanse. It’s a time to love, honor, and respect all your unique life circumstances, knowing that our soul seeds will burst through the dormancy. When you look at the view of Earth from space, you are immediately in awe of what you do see: the incredible beauty of Creation. It is not until you look closer that you realize what you do not see. You do not see lines partitioning countries. You do not see separation between races. You do not see division between religions. You do not see the walls people build to isolate themselves from each other. There is only One Planet. There is only One Humanity. This section is dedicated to introducing thoughts and ideas to foster a greater understanding of Humanity’s interdependence.

World Vision

Without Context, Life Can Be Drastic by Kathy Custren

Without Context, Meaning Can Fade Without context, our world loses much of its meaning. There are shades of nuance that exist throughout the

vibrational spectrum, that lend added definition, and some may say dignity, to life. In the absence of these sprinklings of understanding, we lose empathy; hardened to only to the extremes of what we see and hear.

severed head of President Donald Trump. This firestorm of incendiary controversy fueled social media for days. It enraged folks that such a prominent comedienne would “do such a thing.” “What about the President’s son?”

Before we react to words, in anger, frustration, or even haste, let us stop to consider that there may be more to the picture. When something is bothering us and a caring person takes the time to stop to ask how we are, do we say how we really feel? “I’m fine,” is the standard response to an often-un-standard inquiry. Deep down, we know the other person must have noticed something to make them ask in the first place.

Yet, we might quickly forget that these images do not come about of their own accord. We see a well-constructed, highly colorful image designed to inflame. We overlook seeing effigies of President Obama strung from a tree, as if lynched. Surely, the young Obama daughters saw those images more than once while growing up in the White House. If not, kudos to the parents for keeping them insulated; my family saw them.

Recent Examples of Context Clues

It is not all that easy to stand in front of a crowd and tell a joke, let alone one that makes an impact. Today’s comedians work in a realm of multiple layers of subtleties. These nuances

Take, for example, the recent exhibit of Kathy Griffin and the image of her holding a “piñata” shaped like the

are sometimes lost in the muddled fields of politics, with distinct lines drawn or where ideologies shift periodically. Double Entendre and Hidden Context Would Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of President Trump be any less on-point if he played it before the election? Would it even be on our radar? What of those joking about President Clinton’s use of the word, “is?” At face value, does everything have a double entendre? The Taijitu says this is the case. Knowing when to apply nuance, subtlety, or context can be important. Stringing along past experiences within the present moment, with an eye toward future influence, is part and parcel of human communications, rightly or wrongly. These aspects to

life are often the difference in knowing what syllable to emphasize when saying, “I love you.” It is said that persons with autism often lack the ability to know when people are making jokes or when words operate as idioms, because they may not read the same social cues as many of us. Without context, we may take words at face value alone and fall into this category. Likewise, the many news reports, memes, and other things we see in the media today. As people work hard to get our attention, we do need to be cognizant of the many layers of understanding and misunderstanding that can occur with communicative awareness. Can we convey context with text alone, or with one limited view? When it comes to freedom of

expression, who is to say? Subtle Differences and Controversial Flare Those of us with a skill to fully explain the subtle differences can add shading where needed. However, it behooves us to do such applications wisely. Many colors of the experiential rainbow avoid our spectroscopy. It does not mean these shades do not exist; only that our ability to fully sense and comprehend them is limited. This is true where culture or politics draw such distinct lines, or where the fruition of mindful speech comes into play. So, when it is reported, and even fact-checked with precision, that someone has said something controversial, we must take it with a grain of salt. It can be important to

consider the many underlying meanings. Allowing for such context increases our measure of empathy and understanding. As part of The Conundrum, it is ironic that we lose context in using text. In allowing for the rights and wrongs of our world, this becomes a very important touchstone for us all. Books

A Necessary Clearing For all who are looking for some answers and a way through: This book combines an autobiographical look into the author's life, with practical insights into finding a way back from imbalance, turmoil and trauma, to balance, wellness and unconditional love. All too often in life, we can find ourselves off-track emotionally and mentally, which can lead to depression, confusion, difficulty in interpersonal communication and a "lack" mentality. When these imbalances occur, it can become difficult to see the fuller picture that makes solutions possible. And it can make it more difficult to stay in an abundance mindset; thankful, grateful, compassionate and in a higher, more positive energetic vibration. This life is a blessing. And each of us are capable and worthy of happiness and fulfillment, if we can tap into the unconditionally loving state that we all innately and spiritually are. It takes a need to be completely open and honest with yourself about any blockages and "shadow" aspects within yourself that could be standing in your way of it. It takes the ownership and responsibility of the fact that your happiness is in your own hands, just as it is within each of us and the absolute belief that you are capable of and worthy of, that fulfillment. We are spirits having a human experience. And if there is balance between the two, then this life experience can be wide open in an experience of Love. For anyone who is in difficulty or confusion in their life, this book is written to try and help you to be able to see your own way through the dark and into the light.
