The Sacred Purpose of Yoga OMTIMES: Pujya Swamiji, what is yoga to you? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: The word ‘yoga’ means ‘union.’ Yoga is that which unfolds, awakens and becomes when the body, mind, and spirit align perfectly together. The purpose of yoga is to create a union both within ourselves and ultimately with the Divine.
Omtimes.com
Yoga is not a belief system, dogma or even a religion, it is an ancient scientific understanding of the pathway to liberation that has been passed down from our Rishis, Saints, and Sages for the benefit of mankind. In these very Himalayas, which are so conducive for divine inspiration, these Rishis performed severe austerities together with deep meditation and prayer. It was from their sacrifice the Masters have bestowed a treasure chest of wisdom for the benefit of humanity. Through their love of humanity and their grace, these teachings have been passed down through the millennia so that humankind can know how to live in balance and union with the Creator and His creation. Thus the science of yoga has given us the perfect vehicle for spiritual awakening and enlightenment. It is important to know that Yoga is not a religion. It does not require you to believe in a certain God or to chant certain mantras. A belief system is not required to participate in yoga, yoga is the science of how to live the highest life. These days, especially in the
west, people take yoga classes to learn all about the various techniques of asanas, pranayama, and meditation. But yoga is so much more than that. Yoga is a way of life, and its teachings can penetrate every aspect of your being. Yoga off the mat is just as important as yoga on the mat. Yes, there are discernable physical and mental benefits of yoga on the mat, but it is important that we do not use yoga just to build slender and toned bodies. This is just one of the small consequences of asana practice, but it is not the purpose of yoga. The purpose of yoga is to transform your being, to become the best version of you by connecting to your true self and the divine. OMTIMES: Is there a particular yoga practice that you feel is best? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: It is joyful to see the practice of yoga burgeoning throughout the world. Yet, I can also see that there is a rampant competition amongst the various styles, lineages and “brands of yoga. People often ask “Which Omtimes.com
form of Yoga is the best?” I would say that if there can be a “best” and therefore a “worst,” then it is not yoga. If there is competition, criticism, backstabbing and cheating, then it is not yoga. Yoga is co-operation. Yoga is togetherness. The purpose of yoga is not in itself or by which asana, style or school of yoga it comes from. The purpose of yoga is to experience unity within and without. Where you see division, even if it is in your yoga class, then it is not yoga. OMTIMES: Why does the world need yoga today? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: Today the world needs yoga more than ever. Not for the fitness, health benefits or peace of mind it brings but because the world needs unity. Today, that which ails us as individuals, communities, societies, religious groups and nations, is actually separation. The borders and boundaries between ‘me’ and ‘you’ and ‘us’ and ‘them’ are thicker and Omtimes.com
more intractable than ever. Our personal frame of reference is narrowing each day. Our culture has a beautiful phrase ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which means the world is one family. It is so unfortunate that for many of us today we do not even think to identify ourselves as members of the world family. Rather, we find it easier to identify as members of a political party, religion, profession or social class. The boundary between them and us seems to be widening. That separation, that sense of ‘self’ versus ‘other’ is what permits us to dehumanize each other so drastically that we can be complicit, directly or indirectly, in others suffering and even death. Politicians, media, businesses all seem to be leading the race to separation with the belief that for one to win, someone else has to lose. We are fed this narrative of separation, and without awareness or self-reflection, we too can fall into this trap that there is an “us” and “them” and so long as the “us” are winning,
we can convince ourselves that the “them somehow deserve their lot. Yoga is a solution. Yoga is a solution to all of these problems caused by separation. But it starts with the person. When one person knows their true value and connection to the web of life, they can be the light that changes the lives of those around them and the world. As we first connect with divine prana (energy of life) through our breath, we realize that we are being nourished by the Universe and inextricably interconnected to the web of Life. This means we realize our value, our sacredness as well as our potential to heal, not hurt; to love, not hate and to be a light in this world. Yoga, therefore, is also a potential solution to that which ails our planet. When we realize our interconnectedness, then we naturally stand up and support our world and our actions and thoughts become those that bring peace and protection to not only those we love but for the whole planet. OMTIMES: So many people
are interested in yoga and take yoga classes all over the world, but how to get yoga into all aspects of your life, on and off the mat? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: Yoga, as prescribed by Patanjali, is actually an eight-fold path of increasing levels of unfoldment. Asana is only one part; pranayama is another; meditation is still another. These aspects of the various paths require the student to gain mastery of their body, mind, and intellect. Through asanas, the limbs become comfortable and lose, through pranayama the vital energies are concentrated within, and through meditation, the mind becomes able to concentrate and in a single point. With this sense of agency and mastery over one’s thoughts, emotions and physical wellbeing a student can turn to the other aspects of this path are called Yama and niyama. These can be loosely translated as the rules for righteous living. In general, Yama is exercising restraint over our lower, baser, animal-like instincts; for instance, overcoming greed, lust, anger, and envy, and never acting based Omtimes.com
on these impulses. Niyama be the embrace of higher, spiritual, humane values, such as being generous and selfless, cultivating piety, devotion, compassion, loyalty, and humility. The concepts of Yama and niyama can be summed up as, “Do good and be good; do divine and be divine.” By living in the present moment and remaining calm no matter what is happening outside of you and by following these moral, ethical, and spiritual guidelines, one’s entire life will become balanced and comfortable. OMTIMES: Do these rules for life apply to everyone? You are a Hindu swami, what about people who are not Hindu or live householder lives? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: Gravity does not need you to believe in it, it’s simply there. If you jump from a wall, you will fall down despite your belief system. In the same way, the principles of yoga are based on spiritual laws or truths and yoga has beautifully and scientifically created a system whereby we can live in synergy Omtimes.com
with these spiritual laws and not against them. In the last decade we can see that scientific knowledge is catching up with, and indeed coming to the same conclusions, like spirituality. From the numerous studies showing the discernable benefit of meditation on peoples mental and physical health, or the curative properties of foods, to the detrimental effects of stressful living. This knowledge is becoming popular now, but these same truths have made available for all through the science of yoga for millennia. People do say to me “I’m not Indian” or, “I’m not a Hindu, so I don’t have to follow these ethical laws.” Yet this is not true as not one of the eight limbs of yoga depends upon one’s belief. Yoga is based on universal laws or rules that, when followed, automatically lead to more peaceful, joyous and meaningful lives. OMTIMES: What are some aspects of how we must examine our lives? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: Self-awareness,
honest contemplation and taking time to be with one’s Self-care all very important in deepening our spiritual connection, but this is one thing we must all examine, and that is if our diet is in concert with a yogic life? Awareness of nutrition has dramatically risen this last decade, and people are now also learning a lot about sattvic food, which means food that is fresh, easily digestible and leads to the health of the body and peace of the mind. Rather than talk to you about the intricacies of a sattvic diet though, I am simply going to personally ask you: Are you vegetarian? There is virtually nothing we can do to our bodies that is more contrary to the yogic life than eating meat. To be a yogi is to be full of life but how we are full of life if our bodies are graveyards for dead animals? How can we be at peace if our food choices bring suffering and death to others? So, if you are a vegetarian, great. It will not only improve your health, but it will change
the very nature of your being if you eat a fresh, nutritious and balanced diet. If you are not a vegetarian, then do think about it. A vital aspect of a yogic life is that of contemplation and introspection. So we must take time to go inside ourselves and ask “What right do I have to take the life of another or cause suffering to others?” Watch how your mind comes up with arguments to rationalize the suffering you cause, watch those thoughts and then go deeper within and ask your heart if it wants to partake in this cruelty. OMTIMES: What can a person do – besides going to yoga class - daily to integrate yoga into their lives? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: We have talked about remaining self-aware, calm and balanced throughout the day, but let me give you three capsules, a multivitamin, so to speak that you can take every day to truly help bring yoga into your daily life. Omtimes.com
The first capsule is meditation. Meditation is the best medication for all agitations. To address this “dis-ease” they feel, or this inability to simply be content, they may medicate themselves or fill their lives with excessive material pleasures. Yet, suppression or enhancement of your life experiences are not the solutions, nor do they address the underlying issues. External “fixes” are simply bandages to a wound that runs deeper below the surface. Meditation brings you into contact with your true self, your own divinity. It brings you back to the world from which you come: the realm of the Divine. As we sit in meditation, we come to experience ourselves as a conscious presence that is not dependent on the mind. The endless working of the mind as it jumps here and there trying to tell you what is “likable vs. unlikable” and what you think you should know overwhelms us and leaves us mentally exhausted. So many times by the end of the day, we cannot even think straight. Through Omtimes.com
meditation, the mind rests and allows you to sit with your being. And with practice, your mind will loosen its grip on you, and you will come to realize the insignificance of that which once caused you anxiety; you will realize the transient nature of all your troubles. You will realize the life is better when you are calm and content. Take five minutes at work, on the train, in the office to be present, watch your breath, focus on the oneness of us all, and connect with the Divine. Let your life become meditation. The second capsule is no reaction to external events during the day. We must learn to become calmer and unaffected by all that happens around us. How much of our lives are spent in reactive behavior? How often do we have a knee-jerk reaction to situations or people? We feel a wave of emotion, we blurt something out or even physically lash out, all without any conscious thought or control. But how to be non-reactive
during the day? This is called spiritual practice! I always say that one of the best ways to strengthen our “no reaction” is through silence. When we restrain ourselves from constantly talking (in mind and speech), we practice that wonderful ability to hold ourselves and indeed become a witness to what is happening around us. Our powers of observation increase and we can learn to see the bigger picture by spending time silently observing. So often, reactive behavior comes from seeing a small amount of information, judging it and instantaneously reacting to it. By practicing periods of silence and by grabbing the space between cause and effect, we can regain peace, calm and control in our lives.
successes and what were our failures? For all the successes, all our “plus-points,” we must give credit to God, in whatever name or whatever form you have, for we have truly done nothing but let God work through us. Give all the credit to the Divine.
The third capsule is introspection. At the end of the day, a good businessman always checks his balance sheet. A good teacher reviews her students’ test scores. By looking at their successes and failures, they assess how well they are doing.
OMTIMES: You have spent over 15 years in the forests, how has that shaped your life?
In the same way, each night we too should examine the balance sheet of our day: what were our
Equally, we can also give our failures to God. The fault may be ours, yet God is so forgiving and so compassionate that all our negatives can be given back to the Divine. In becoming aware of your short fallings and yet releasing them back to God, it clears us of self-negativity, giving us the resolution to strive to better the next day. If we practice these three points every day, then our lives will become beautiful.
H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: For the past nearly fifty years I have had the good fortune to call the sacred land of Rishikesh, on the banks of Mother Ganga in the lap of the Himalayas, my home. At a Omtimes.com
very young age, I was blessed to spend a lot of time with and in the presence of many Saints, Sadhus, and Rishis. I was also trained and disciplined by my Guru to perform many austerities in the jungles and, as a young child, spent many years in silence in the thick forests of Northern India. I often look back and think about those Rishis and Sadhus and how much they have shaped my life. I remember how they had no plan for their next meal, they owned nothing, had nothing but they lived in absolute gratitude, joy, and bliss. Despite owning nothing, when asked how they were at any given time, they would reply, “Mast,” which means “Super.” It is so interesting to me that today, we have so many things; we own sofa sets, TV sets, closets and we have everything in our lives set, but yet we are still upset. Those who seem to have the most seem to be the most upset and those who have very little, but an abundance of yoga, are set. OMTIMES: What was the secret of their
Omtimes.com
peace and happiness? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: What were those mantras, those sutras, those values that kept the Sages and the Sadhus of the forest in peace and not in pieces? What was the light that allowed them to be better, not bitter? What were the teachings that taught them and instilled in them to BE more, not merely to have more? I want to share with you three core tenets and teachings, that the Mystics lived by, which I think are critical to connecting, uniting and living in peace and harmony. First Mantra: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: The World is a Parivar (family) not merely a Bazaar (marketplace) This beautiful mantra is,“Ayamnijahparovetigananalaghuchetasam, udaracharitanantuVasudhaivaKutumbakam.” Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. This simply and beautifully means that the whole world is one family. Tragically, today we are
treating our whole world as a bazaar, as a shopping center, as a marketplace (buying and selling our Mother Earth and calling those pieces commodities). When we buy and sell commodities we lose our connection to its source, we feel as if we own what we purchase and, yet it does not belong to us, it is a gift gifted to us from our Mother Earth. This beautiful Mantra teaches us that the world is not a bazaar but the world is a Parivar (family). Just as in our families and with those we love, we naturally live, love, share and serve together, so to should we widen our understanding of family to include the whole world. We are all indeed one family. Let us shift in our mindset, a shift in our thoughts to the idea that the world is just like our own family and we all are one. We have to live for each other, we have to share with each other, and with that, there will be no room for greed. When we truly know the world is our family, will work selflessly to serve our world family and never exploit or take more than we need.
Second Mantra: Divine Pervades All Expanding the Spirit of a Sacred Pilgrimage The first line of the Isha Upanishad reminds us that God pervades everything on Earth. Isha vasa idamsarvam. There is nowhere, no being whom He does not pervade. All of creation is, therefore, Divine. Our tradition asks us to protect all life that God has created. We should know that God is everywhere and we should honor and protect all of His creation and in protecting His creation, nature itself, we can protect the world for the generations still to come. This is a deep realization. When we see the divine spark in all, how can cause harm to it? When we see the divine in the animal kingdom, how can we slay life just because we say it tastes good? When we see the divine in nature, how can we ravage it for what we think are items of value? When we see that the divine pervades all, we will see that everything in nature has a deep and abiding value and its own role to play
Omtimes.com
in the divine plan. Third Mantra: Worshiping the Creator Means Protecting and Preserving All of Creation Our ancient sages personified the Earth as Mother Earth and worshipped her as Goddess (Devi). Now more than ever, we need these mantras to learn how to live in peace within ourselves and with the world. Now, more than ever protection of Nature is paramount. Nature is seen as a Guru (our teacher) and the very pure essence of the divine, not as a commodity at our disposal. Just spend some time looking at nature, watch a plant or an ant. See how peaceful and content they are. Look at the sun, it shines for all and gives life to all, no matter who or where you are, or what you have done to deserve its rays. We too should be like the sun, just giving and sharing ourselves to all with no hesitation, no expectation, and no discrimination. All life is sacred. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says the
Omtimes.com
wise see all living beings equally. This equality is based on the knowledge that we are all part and parcel of the eternal, divine, supreme reality. Wherever we see life, be it human, animal or plant, we see the Atma, an embodiment of that Divine. We have lost touch with the power of these sacred Mantras and nature is paying the price for our ignorance. We must now live more consciously, tread on this planet more mindfully and use its resources sparingly. We also need to serving tirelessly to replenish and recharge nature from that which have so wantonly taken. OMTIMES: Last year you led the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations and every year in the first week of March you host the International Yoga Festival? Can you tell us what Yoga means to you? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: I talked earlier about Yoga and how it is a universal answer to not only living a balanced, peaceful and joyous
live but also to obtain the goal; union with the Divine, within our own Selves and in the world around us. The International Yoga Festival is a wonderful way for seekers of truth to join with like-minded souls and learn, experience and embody the teaching of yoga in the birthplace of yoga itself: Rishikesh in the presence of the divine flow of Mother Ganga. OMTIMES: You mention 101 countries participated in the International Yoga Festival? What do you think draws them to Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh)? H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati: Today the world is searching for peace. We have everything set, but we are upset. We have seen that all the possessions and prestige in the world does not bring us happiness. Also, we are suffering from the epidemic of stress and stress-induced illnesses of the body and mind. People are yearning for an answer. That answer is in yoga, but not merely in the physical exercises. The answer is in the fullness, the
wholeness of the practice of true union with the Self. Last year, during IYF 2017, we had more than 1700 participants from 101 countries join us in celebration of life and oneness. It was truly a beautiful and wonderful experience for all, and in 2018 we look forward to welcoming yoga participants and seekers from more than 108 countries! 4 Ways Medical Cannabis Can Improve Your Outlook on Life By Rachelle Wilber
Since legalizing cannabis, scientists have been able to study the benefits of it more than ever before. They’re finding positive results in the minds and in the brains of users. Not only can it help

creatively, but it can also help your mental health. Here are 4 ways medical cannabis can improve your outlook on life: You’ll Feel More Creative Certain strains of medical cannabis will help you feel more creative. This will help your imagination when you’re writing books, songs, poetry, articles, and more. Steve Jobs was quoted saying, “The best way I would describe the effect of the marijuana and the hashish is that it would make me relaxed and creative.” without the effects of cannabis, we may not have iPhones and Apple computers. Many musicians and artists throughout the years have been highly influenced by cannabis as well. Without it, we would not have the amount of unique, and creative music that we do in the world. You’ll Feel Happier Cannabis has been known for creating a happier mind and outlook. It’s used in patients
who suffer from depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Certain companies, such as Elevated, know that cannabinoids are capable of reducing fear and acting as a sedative to reduce nightmares in patients. However, when combined with diet and exercise, cannabis can lead to a healthier lifestyle overall. These changes will lead to a happier state of mind. Be More Productive Contrary to the popular belief that goes along with the demonization of cannabis, it can actually help you get more things done. With a calm, focused mind, you are able to be more creative and problemsolve in ways you simply can’t without it. Many people use cannabis as a replacement for their ADHD medicine because it calms the senses and allows the mind to focus on the task at hand. Old Minds Will Feel Young Again Cannabis can lead to anti-aging of the brain

by restoring cognitive function. Published in an article by Nature Medicine in February, a German study discovered how a chronic low dose of THC can restore cognitive function in old brains. When tested on old mice versus sober, young mice, the older group could perform at the same level as the younger mice. Relaxed State of Mind Cannabis helps users feel good and relaxed by releasing dopamine and anandamide. The combination will have positive results physically and mentally. A relaxed state of mind can help with evaluating situations and problems more calmly, leading to a less hostile reaction. Not only does it help with anger, but also with coping with other stressors and negative feelings. Medical cannabis is growing in popularity and legalizing

all over the country—both medical and recreational. It gives users the option of treating their pain and mental health without the use of opioids and antidepressants. These are only some of the ways that cannabis can improve your outlook on life. There are many other ways that patients can use this safer method of treatment rather than rely on prescription drugs that come with endless risks. Agape Love and Spirituality
Can you imagine a God who is compassionate and forgiving to all, a Spirit possessing the quality of agape love, the love for all beings? Can you imagine this agape love as central to your own spirituality?
Omtimes.com
Many of us long to know and connect with Spirit. When we do, we can experience a connection to Spirit in our personal energy field as a sensation or as an inner knowing that we are united with a loving and powerful force. Some say that through prayer, reflecting about the nature of God, or meditating on love or a loving Higher Power, they experience a sense of unity, peace, and love. Some might describe the feeling of love and joy experienced while serving others, or while just playing with grandkids or listening to a moving music performance, as a connection with Spirit, the loving and creative force. I can understand this characterization as I have felt that way, too. Also, through some of my shamanic work, I’ve had the direct experience of a creative universal eternal energy. My encounters have convinced me that Spirit’s love for us is real and that Spirit can infuse us with agape love. When I experience a spiritual connection to Source, a sense of agape love fills me: I want to give to others. I yearn to
express this love. Maybe you have experienced this sense of abundance and desire to send love outward to the world, too. Yet maybe you worry about your financial and emotional resources, and struggle to find the time and impetus to give to others. How much to give, and how much to invest in themselves, is not always easy to figure out. A conversation with Spirit might help you find the answers, and lead to abundance coming your way from an unexpected source. Some might call this karma for doing good works. Perhaps it is simply how energy with the quality of love moves through the matrix of energy that underlies our world. I believe it is an expression of ayni, or reciprocity. I believes Spirit works with us to help us experience agape love so that we let it move through us and outward to others. I’ve seen people who experience very real scarcity who understandably can be very cautious about husbanding their financial resources. At times, they can feel burned out by the burdens Omtimes.com
of life. Yet often, these people are extremely generous when it comes to expressing love and compassion to others and helping them in practical ways. Some have little more to give than inspirational words, or prayer on someone’s behalf. I believe all these spiritual practices of service have meaning and value not just for the person practicing them but for all of us.
to share it with others.
Praying for peace, prosperity, and an end to violence maybe have value on its own, even when it is not accompanied by good works or expressing love to other human beings directly through action and words. Perhaps if there were no monasteries and monks chanting or nuns praying behind tall stone walls, we would be experiencing even worse tragedies and traumas in the world than we are now. I do know this: Praying for others gives many comfort and reminds them of their connection to God, which often helps them to be kinder to others, and to serve people lovingly. Agape love seems to fill them up and provide them with the energy and impetus
What we do to feel loving and express love may differ from person to person. If you do not feel connected to Spirit, perhaps you simply need to find a different portal to an experience of agape love. Imagine what that portal might look like for you, and what you might experience if you discovered it and stepped through it.

How do you get the inspiration to do good works? How can you become more inspired, and is that important to you? How can you replenish your supply of agape love? How can you reconnect with the Source of agape love? What spiritual practices cause you to feel filled with an abundance of love for all?

How are we listening? By Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari
“The most basic of human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them. Ralph Nichols, the Father of Listening.
Omtimes.com
Listening To Our Body One dimension of listening mindfully should be the practice of shutting off our attention to the external world and its noise frequencies and tuning into our own body. Yes, if we close our eyes, and take a few deep breaths, and then dive into our own body, scan it from head to toe, and if we can gradually relax and calm down and be a quiet witness, we may be blessed to listen to the intelligent communications of our own unique physical universe. Through this practice we can know what exactly our body needs; what food, what rest, what company, what thoughts, what emotions, and what kind of life! This will be our true understanding; our very cellular structure will undergo a thorough awakening and transformation, first through detoxification and then through higher energy vibrations. The whole of it will start the day we stop, pause, and turn our gaze to our own inner body, which is our physical stuff that has the intelligence of the whole
universe in it. Don’t forget whatever is there in the universe, is there in our body. Why our body! Even one of the trillions of cells of our body is a macrocosm in itself. It is like an ocean in a drop. It is holographic. Isn’t it incredible? Oh! How much time we waste focusing outside looking for fun!! Listening to the intelligence of our own body can open a new horizon, a new world to us; a world we have never seen before!! Listening to Our Mind As long as we listen to the conversations of our mind we are restless. Our practice of meditation and mindfulness should take us gradually into state of awareness of our inner conversation, our self-talk. When we are thinking, don’t believe there is no one listening; the whole universe listens to our selftalk. The more we trust that the universe listens to us the more we can change our inner conversations and start
Omtimes.com
believing that we can make ourselves happy and live our own higher goals. Let our selftalk be one of acceptance of and affirmation of the reality that the universe listens to us, understands us and loves us as we are!
significance of the words the Guru or God spoke. Then we have Nididhyasana, or meditation, meditating on the significance of the essence of what Guru or God says. This leads to Moksha, or complete liberation.
Listening to Our Spirit
So, here too, the most difficult thing is the first one, listening. Shravana is listening where our mind is like a clean slate. There is no blah-blah inside or background noise!! Then it registers and leads to the next two stages.
The day we are no longer led by the chattering mind, and start listening to the whispers of our spirit, we transcend the world of misery and are in perennial bliss. In our Hindu Vedic tradition one the most difficult disciplines to learn by a seeker (student) is to listen deeply with an open heart and mind, chew the essence, and then metabolize it into pure light of spiritual effulgence. The first part of listening from the point of view of our Hindu tradition is called Shravana, which is listening to the Guru or God. Then comes MaĂąana, or contemplation, which is dwelling on the deeper
Omtimes.com
As we start to listen to our spirit within, we have flashes of insight. These flashes have much potential to transform our lives. But they are just seeds that need to sprout and be nourished. Without our time and attention, the importance of these flashes will sift to the bottom of our consciousness in the flood of our day-to-day lives. Therefore we need to chew on them, so they can be fully digested, and completely assimilated. Then,
and only then, can they be truly understood and practiced. Listening to Others It is only after we have truly listened to our bodies, calmed the chatter in our minds and opened the channel to universal wisdom and love that we can begin to listen to others with true understanding. Most relationships suffer due to impatient communication that comes from lack of mindful listening. With all our material abundance we are moving away from each other, creating voids. The worst symptom is there is no one we can trust who can listen to us non-judgmentally. This is the real threat. What we give to the universe (to others) comes back to us. The universe is continually reciprocating our reactions and responses. The more alert and wakeful we are to how good a listener we are, what thoughts we are thinking and what we in turn say, the better
for us. Like an arrow leaving the bow can’t be taken back, so also words spoken can’t be taken back. We must first listen and then speak from our heart and soul, for judgments come from the mind; love and compassion flow from our heart, and empathy from our spirit. Relax, chill, and allow the mind to pause, and then listen to the silence of the spirit within. Then true understanding happens within and without!

5 Tips for Yoga Practice in the Wintertime by Dixie Somers In the traditional practice of yoga, changing seasons produce different elements that influence the body, internally as well as externally. The low temperatures and reduced humidity of winter can lead to energy imbalances that affect your health and well-being. Adjustments need to be made to keep your circulatory and digestive systems functioning optimally. Here are five tips to keep in mind for wintertime yoga. Live Healthy Keep up a healthy lifestyle throughout the winter to maintain optimal health and get the most from your yoga practice. That means plenty of physical activity and consistently getting a good night’s rest. All the precautions should be taken to stay healthy, including a diet of fresh

foods. Eat balanced meals, and even though it’s cold out, nibble on natural fruits, seeds, nuts, and raw vegetables as your snacks, Practice Faithfully It may be tempting to stay in bed or curl up in a blanket in front of the TV when it’s cold outside, but your yoga practice is something you should keep up with. If you start skipping sessions that were your steady routine before, you’re developing bad habits that may impact your sense of self-discipline in the future, as well as the quality of results you get from it. Establish a warm-up routine to better prepare your body for the cold. Keep Warm Regular exercise and daily yoga will help you to fight the cold and feel warmer. If you’re used to going outside for yoga, just dress warmly and take along a mat or blanket to lay on the frozen ground. Or just get used to doing it indoors. Always have your HVAC checked out by a company before the cold weather kicks in. Call a qualified HVAC company for any heating issues so you can still feel comfortable during your routine. Prevent Illness Winter weather is the cold and
flu season. An upper respiratory infection can mean plugged-up sinuses, sore throat, and fever that make yoga more difficult. Be sure to observe standard coldseason practices, such as washing your hands frequently, drinking plenty of liquids, especially citrus juice, and take some Vitamin C supplements to be on the safe side. Try to Be Positive Don’t let the cold and gloomy weather get you down. Be mindful of the benefits that yoga gives you. If you feel ill, your breathing exercises (pranayamas) can help to clear chest congestion and support immune response. If you start to really think that you’re not up to physical yoga, study books on the subject or go to classes to help boost your motivation. Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures can be an excuse for avoiding all kinds of tasks. But your yoga routine is too crucial to your well-being to put aside.

Make a Playdate With Your Inner Child By Jennifer Whitfield
There are so many ways to journey into the spirit and reconnect. And when the world gets too serious, inner child work becomes a wonderful and accessible tool for reconnection and playfulness. The inner child is alive in a space that is
Omtimes.com
untouched by time, and while it may require healing, is also carefree and ready for fun. A child’s arch-nemesis is boredom. In a child’s world, life is play, so joy is cultivated, and in every moment, there is an opportunity for endless possibilities. Children live in the subconscious where things haven’t quite formed yet. Their highly creative space is a magical journey waiting to be explored. In this magical world, Mother Earth is a giant playground. Fairies are real. Imaginary friends aren’t imaginary at all. The main purpose of a child is simply to exist and be, free from the need to be doing, and it remains the birthright of every adult to reclaim a connection to their inner child. There is a familiarity between shamanism and inner child work. Just as a shamanic journey visits other realms, and employs techniques like soul retrieval to pick up lost pieces and reconnect them, so too is the process of inner child work. The trance
state of shamanism is very similar to the trance state of hypnotherapy. Anything that creates an imaginative, safe and connected mindset is creating the space to journey beyond the here and now. Many Times, listening to a guided meditation, going into hypnosis or meditative state, deep relaxation, or lowlevel drumming helps the busy “monkey-mind” get out of the way. The rest of it is the intention. Asking for a guide to assist on the journey can be helpful, too. Once the conscious mind is relaxed and settled, or preoccupied, invite the creative mind to recall a happy memory of childhood. Feeling joy inside the body takes the experience from the ethereal and begins to activate the expression throughout the body. The inner child is always waiting to be acknowledged, just like any child. They need attention and love. They need someone to hear them and give them a voice. They
Omtimes.com
need comfort, and someone to play with. And there’s no better someone than an adult in the form of their future self. Once their needs are met, and someone has kissed their boo-boos the inner child can heal anything instantly, having profound effects on the present self. Children have an amazing capacity to accept things and heal faster than any adult because their mind is not made up about anything. They don’t live in their ego, and their identity is not yet formed so change can happen rapidly. This type of acknowledgment moves a stuck inner-child who feels forgotten and abandoned out of the shadow-self and into the light. It is in the light that they can experience play and joy, bridging those same emotions into the present self. Healing and reclaiming abandoned parts of the self will shift what manifests in life into a more positive outcome. It changes the stories we tell ourselves. The happiest memories and
Omtimes.com
experiences of childhood are just a spirit journey away from the present. In this busy world of doing, being playful is powerful and amazingly simply tool to shift worry and stress, into reminding us of what really counts. Painting a picture, playing an instrument, kicking a ball, and climbing a tree exist on a frequency where stress cannot. Especially when those activities are serving the intention of fun. Because where there is fun, ego is not. And again, the constant adult energy of doing and accomplishing take a back seat to the art of being and feeling. We’ve all come to realize that children are wise beyond their years, and that applies to the inner child as well. And when we establish a solid relationship with our inner child, we are both adult and child, fully present, and their wisdom and joy is ours too. Abandon the to-do list, build a tree fort with the fairies, and see what kind of magic can be created!
How Losing Ourselves in 3 ways And How it Can Help Us Reach Our Goals by Sharon Kirstin
Who we believe we are is essential to us humans. We align all our thoughts, behaviors and actions with our identity. It doesn’t even matter if it’s a positive or negative character trait, we assume that’s just who we are. We
Omtimes.com
try to do our best with what we’ve got. But where does this identity come from? Is it possible that we consciously need to redesign parts of ourselves to live our fullest and happiest life? In the Netflix series “Limitless,” a struggling musician with a big heart turns FBI consultant. His trick is a pill called ‘NZT’ that gives him access to 100% of his brain function and morphs him into a crimesolving genius. He’s finally the version of himself that he’s always wanted to be. He’s living his full potential. But he has an identity crisis - the more NZT he takes, the more it feels as if he’s losing himself. That’s when Bradley Cooper’s character asks him: “Why do you want to hold on to your old self before NZT so badly?” The self, our self, are we defining it inaccurately? Why do we hold on to who we were yesterday? Our current self rarely has the needed character traits to reach our
big goals in life. So, here’s what to do to make losing ourselves and designing a new version of us easier. Conditioning vs. Design First, we need to understand that all information about our identity is safely stored in the 90% of our identity that we have little conscious control over - our subconscious mind. All of our life’s experiences have become part of our identity. We’ve been conditioned to believe certain things about ourselves, society and life. We’ve also been exposed to situations that felt good or not good at all, and we’ve drawn our conclusions. We’ve also made decisions on how we will survive. Even seemingly small incidents from an adult point of view can cause us as a child to create a coping mechanism that is limiting our self-expression. Scientists say we’re operating in theta brainwave until the age of 7. Theta is the frequency that allows deep programming and doesn’t put
Omtimes.com
up any filter on what can enter our subconscious mind. This means we’re a sponge and whatever ideas are presented to us, and whatever feelings are triggered, they stick with us through life. What we believe is our carefully selected identity, is simply a more or less random selection of conditioned beliefs and programs. This means that we’re not created by design, but we’re the sum of our life experiences and how we interpreted them.
It’s not that anything is wrong with who we are. This is about becoming the most powerful version of ourselves. We also don’t have to worry that we’ll become someone we don’t like - our values will persist. After all, we are consciously creating a new version of ourselves.
We can choose to create a new identity because we are designed as creator beings.
1. Our current identity: We need to be honest with ourselves and write down the behaviors we don’t like about ourselves. Do we procrastinate too much, don’t eat right or get angry too fast? It may even help to look at us from the view of a third person. What would they say about us? Different people will know different aspects of us so let’s look at ourselves from different angles. Let’s complete the list by adding all the things that we may not fully enjoy about ourselves. Let’s mark the points that we’d like to uncreate with an X.
But just like we can’t fill a full glass of water, we first need to uncreate the parts of us that no longer serve the accomplishment of our goals.
2. Our new identity: Let’s take a new piece of paper and write “[Our Name]’s Identity” on top and put it next to our first sheet. We’ll turn all the
Funny enough, one of the strongest human desires is to stay consistent with our identity. So, isn’t it worth it to lose ourselves and choose who we want to be? Our Creator Self

character traits that we’ve marked for ‘uncreation’ into empowering character traits and write them down on the new sheet of paper. It’s worth it to note down all the details from our fashion style, where we live, our lifestyle all the way to how we behave and feel each day. 3. Making it stick: Writing this down won’t make any difference unless we act on it. If we’ve done this right, then most of the points on our “New Identity” list are far out of our comfort zone. That’s great! Our task now is to do things we would usually not do. We need to get comfortable being uncomfortable. We can experiment with creating something like a vision board to remind us why we’re recreating ourselves. Or we can create affirmations to imprint our new beliefs in our subconscious mind. But nothing will work unless we uncreate our old identity by taking new action. It may be scary to think that
we lose the person who we believe we are. But isn’t it worth it when the outcome will be a life by design? Bio: Sharon Kirstin is a Bestselling Author, Success Coach & Energy Consultant. What Do Addicts, Serial Killers, And Billionaires Have In Common? By Marcia Sirota, MD
On the surface, violent serial killers, crack addicts searching for their next hit and insatiably greedy billionaires don’t seem to have very much in common, if anything at all. But they’re a lot more similar than we might think.
Omtimes.com
What all these people share is the fact that their actions are driven by a compelling need within them. And interestingly, although the choices they make in trying to satisfy this requirement might be very different, each one of them has the exact same need. The common motivation of all these seemingly disparate individuals is the longing to fill a gaping emotional void. It’s an emptiness that can only be filled with love and meaning. Unfortunately, these people are trying to fill it up in ways that will never work. The need for love and meaning is the most basic one we have. To thrive and not just survive, everyone must give and receive love, have a strong sense of belonging and feel like they’re making a contribution. Everyone needs these things, even if they don’t realize that they do. Only real love and real meaning will fill the void. No substitutions will suffice. If we pursue the real thing, we thrive. If we continue
alternatives to drugs, violence or material wealth, the void grows deeper and wider. If we’re lucky enough to grow up with the love, validation, and care every human being requires, we’ll develop into healthy, emotionally intact adults who understand the importance of continuing to fill our lives with love and meaning. If we don’t receive adequate love, affirmation or care during our childhood, we’ll grow up with an aching emptiness inside us that cries out to be filled. It’s up to us whether we fill it with the real thing or with shoddy alternatives. Even if we didn’t have a loving childhood, proper guidance (in the form of coaching, counseling or therapy) would enable us to turn to real solutions for the love and meaning we’re lacking. We’ll learn to work on building self-love and self-care; we’ll tap into our innate compassion for others; we’ll practice
Omtimes.com
altruism and focus on making a contribution to the world.
have been obvious that these methods weren’t effective.
These types of choices will fill up the void within us caused by inadequate love or care during our childhood. No matter how challenging our childhood was, we’ll be able to carve out a fulfilling adult life.
The problem is that a lot of people aren’t fully aware of their need for love and meaning. As a result, they don’t know how to pursue these things directly.
Some people are taken in by false solutions to these fundamental human needs. For example, if an individual was indulged with money and possessions while growing up but was never truly loved, they’re likely to become a greedy materialist in adult life who compulsively pursues wealth. They’ll believe that having more money and stuff will compensate for the deep well of emptiness within them. Of course, it never will. Some people grow up with violence, drugs or alcohol. These people will often turn to the same methods of filling the void that they observed their family or community members using, even though it might
Omtimes.com
They’re convinced that smoking crack, taking out their hurt and anger on other people, or accumulating further billions is what will make them feel better. These individuals are certain that whatever solution they’ve chosen to fill the void is the “right” one. They believe that the only reason it hasn’t worked, so far, is that they haven’t done it enough. They figure that if they just do more of it, they’ll finally find satisfaction. Unfortunately, smoking more crack, accumulating more money or engaging in more cruel behavior will never come close to satisfying them. The more these people pursue the wrong solution, the deeper the void grows within them,
becoming a bottomless pit of unmet needs. One confounding factor is that the pleasure pathway in our brain responds to any source of gratification with an identical, brief burst of pleasure. The crack addict taking a hit will receive the same jolt of dopamine as the killer who’s just committed a murder or the billionaire who’s just signed a huge deal. This short-term “high” is enough of a payoff to convince the person to repeat the behavior, over and over again, in the hopes that if they do it more, the next time the good feeling will last. Unfortunately, it won’t because that’s not how the brain works. Sadly, the person doesn’t realize this, confusing the brief burst of pleasure with the promise of a lasting solution to their inner emptiness. Convinced that “more” will do the trick, they escalate. The crack user goes for a bigger hit. The billionaire goes for an even bigger
deal. The abuser turns into a killer. These people are trying so hard to fill the void, but they’re going about it in the wrong way. Only love and meaning will fill them up and take away their longing for more of the wrong thing. What serial killers, crack addicts and really, anyone engaged in a compulsive behavior have in common is that they’re all trying to fill a deep void, but they’re so far off track that they’ll never succeed. Only if these people understand what’s driving their behavior will they be able to pursue real solutions to the emptiness within. Otherwise, they’ll be doomed forever to perpetuate this endless cycle of destructive and futile efforts to fill up their bottomless pit of need. HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS & THE YEAR OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
I've been asked by fans to address the sexual scandals and casting couch rituals of Hollywood and the outing of influential men of privilege. Right now there are men in the Movie and TV industry shaking in their boots hoping that they won’t be outed… as many actresses are telling their shocking stories. In the 1970’s there was a women’s liberation movement – but today there’s no Gloria Steinem to organize women and demand change.

J.Lo + A-Rod = J-Rod Alex Rodriguez believes that he and Jenifer Lopez are the most beautiful and classiest celebrity couple in the world. A-Rod believes that they will be the new celebrity power couple at the top of the Forbes Highest Paid List. Prediction: they will not. As I write this on December 12, 2017 Sadly, J.Lo’s Achilles' heel is love relationships, her love life is her karmic issue. I hope that Jenny from the Block gets to enjoy her engagement and it's not spoiled like the Ben Affleck relationship that imploded with scandal.
Reality TV Star, Shep Rose
Charleston’s most eligible bachelor goes from Southern Charm to RelationShep on Bravo TV. At his age, Shep Rose has had plenty of time to mature, but he’s still in party boy mode. Currently, Shep is playing the part of the bachelor who is on a journey looking for true love as the star of his reality show RELATIONSHEP.
I predict: - That A-Rod will propose soon, it's in the works, and they will marry. - They will have at least one child together. There’s also the possibility of twins with a fertility doctors help. They may have a surrogate to carry the baby, but definitely Jennifer Lopez eggs. - I see that J.Lo always lets him lead, he calls the shots in the relationship - Right now, Alex is afraid that women will come forward claiming inappropriate sexual conduct and I see that he is defusing this now. The timing is an issue because he is planning to propose. I predict: -Of the last two bachelorettes standing, he picks the one that ticks all the boxes of attributes, but he should've listened to his heart and choose the other girl. In the end, he will pick the wrong girl. - Off camera when he officially ends his TV romance - will he do the honorable thing? Doubtful -The truth is he cannot be faithful to one woman, his bed is never cold.
- Shep's new show is only a steppingstone, a part of a bigger plan. Shep wants to develop and to be a part of many shows which will also include his old-moneyed family. He sees his charming face as a rising star and even he wants to be a TV talk show host. Shep believes he could be the next Andy Cohen. This is the goal he is working towards.

Lisa Bonet’s husband is a respectable family man and a multitalented actor from the Game of Thrones. In 2018 Jason Momoa will begin filming The Crow Reborn. Native American Crow medicine is one of magic, and a powerful shapeshifter and I predict there will be some supernatural phenomena on set. I pray that Jason will spiritually protect himself as he immerses his being into the Crow Reborn. I predict that Jason Momoa will be a male superstar. He's a well-rounded actor that will play: the lover as a romantic lead, a supernatural hero, a bad guy and an action star. There’s a deep brotherly, comrade- in –arms connection, where they have laid down their life for each other. This makes their soulmate connection the very strongest of bonds.
- For PINK, I see a potential accident with damage to her ankle. This requires a hospital and puts her out of commission for a time. So please take care and heed this warning Pink! - I predict a third child for them; a very unplanned pregnancy. - I see new tattoos for Pink and Carey in honor of their children. As a pair, they work hard, love hard, play hard and fight hard. They are a loving family. - For Carey Hart, there is a racing autoaccident in his energy. As an outsider, she will buck the system and feel unwanted and unqualified in her royal role. - Sadly for Harry, this royal marriage will not have a happily ever after ending
At first, Kate Middleton will try to guide and help Megan through the process of acclimating to the Royal life and public expectations. But this will be short-lived because Megan the Yank will rebuff the advice and reject traditional royal protocol which will upset Kate. (As British Subject and Royal, Kate adores the pomp and circumstance and the centuries of tradition) The Queen will come to believe that Meghan is a heathen. -When the wedding is over, and Harry and Megan settle into married life…It is Kate Middleton that will be the people's favorite princess. - For Harry and Megan's marriage, there is something important at 17 months. at giving love but have trouble receiving. Others are preoccupied with their desires. Those with opposite tendencies attract each other. It’s a piece of work to become proficient in both realms. Ken Keyes says the secret of life is “sticking with it.” There is an old Buddhist story about a rich man who owned a lot of property who wanted to drink crystal clear water. One day he gathered his workers to set out for that part of his land where he thought it likely that there would be water. When they began to dig, sure enough, at ten feet, they hit the water. The man was overjoyed, and he drank the water. In about three days, the well ran dry. So they went to another part of the land and dug another well. Sure enough, they hit the water again at ten feet down. This well’s sulfur content caused an unpleasant odor. The man moved on to dig another. This time the water came in a trickle. And so the
man continued throughout his life going from place to place digging ten-foot wells, never really being nourished. He died unfulfilled. Ironically, the water that the man sought would have been available almost anywhere if only he had dug a hundred feet down. The man had only to continue digging to find the rich flowing stream that he craved. We live in a time where many people’s concept of relationship is like the tenfoot wells. Because there are so many available alternatives, we may feel impatience in our desire to have it all. When a relationship gets difficult, we seek another one or distract ourselves. Our culture supports us in the notion that if things get too complex, we should move on to someone else. It is only through going more deeply into our relationships that we receive the waters that truly nourish. Committing to loving each other without losing ourselves is every couple’s task.

Often those with opposite tendencies attract each other. Unable to effectively negotiate these differences, the initial promise of our relationship may deteriorate into despair or separation. This scenario is common, yet few of us possess the tools necessary to meet this challenge.
A renewed commitment to the marriage must be coupled with a fierce commitment to one’s own well-being, or it won’t work. Consulting with a professional or friend can give us ideas of how to practice compassionate self-care. Regular fitness, cultivating mindfulness and making friends with people outside our “couple friends,” gradually, over many months will begin to reestablish a sense of self.
Everyone deserves a good relationship, and living in a relationship that is unfulfilling takes a terrible toll on one’s self-esteem. Over months of
Omtimes.com
The care of others can take many forms. Showing up in a more meaningful way with our partner, stretching into their world, showing more interest in their life,
and learning how to love them in the way they want to be loved are examples of digging down to the sweet water that nourishes. With the practices of forgiveness, looking through the eyes of gratitude, and nonattachment, we became less reactive. By focusing on what our partner is rather than what (s)he isn’t, affection begins to seep back in. With this rediscovered sense of self and deeper appreciation of who our partner is, we may realize that we have been committed to the relationship all along. When both partners are engaged in this effort, we learn that so much more is available. Learning from Successful Couples Ken Keyes says the secret of life is “sticking with it.” Those who continued to stick with the process of cocreating their partnership into a nourishing process know that it is not possible without some struggle.
I have heard from so many successful couples how glad they are that they didn’t give up and leave the relationship. Many reports that they were tempted to quit when serious breakdowns occurred. By continuing to dig deep, the journey of change and growth in consciousness, although rigorous at first, eventually became exhilarating, and fulfilling. They are so grateful to themselves for hanging in there, and for their partner who was willing to take the journey with them, the journey of sacred partnership. A Reading with Emma: Knowing Our Limitations
Most of us who embrace animals as fledged family members strive to please the animals as much as we want them to please us (or even more). This propels
Omtimes.com
many animal lovers to seek a communicator, particularly when the animal is aging or undergoing physical/ emotional changes. Because we are intuitive, a session can bring to light issues that enable people to better care for their animals; however, it is important to note that we are not scientists or veterinarians and do not diagnose ailments or prescribe medical solutions. What we can do is convey the animals’ feelings to the human and suggest veterinary care for issues beyond our scope and responsibility. It is equally important to heed a veterinarian’s advice rather than looking for an animal communicator to override or negate the diagnosis and prescription. Sometimes we do see alternatives, but below is an example of reading that straddles that line.
I read for 13-year-old Schnauzer experiencing multiple aging challenges: diabetes-induced blindness, digestive distress, and arthritis. Her owner sent me a list of questions, some of which were medical questions beyond the scope and responsibility of an intuitive and as an ethical reader, I had to decline to provide an answer. Some of her questions tried to circumvent the veterinarian’s prescription: “The vet said we need a CAT scan. Do we really need it?” “Should we adjust your insulin levels?” “Are the antibiotics working or should we stop them? “ These were questions addressed to both the dog and to me. The dog cannot self-diagnose, and I must be careful and respond in favor of the animal regarding medical questions, deferring to a medical practitioner when life lies in the balance.

Here are some excerpts, my comments in italics. Emma shows me that the only thing that would make her happier is treats; she is showing me is something that is broken off or broken into pieces I see her sitting at your feet in front of you waiting for them. She prefers more time outside. Enclosures make her uncomfortable. She especially doesn’t like closed doors and blocked windows. I also see an issue with one eye or a vision problem. (This was before the client disclosed the diabetic blindness.) In answer to what is causing her gastric distress, she shows me food. I need to ask if she had salmonella or some tainted food, or was there a severe reaction, even an
Omtimes.com
allergic one? What has the vet told you? I want to say she should not have any beef. She shows me some irritation, either anal or lower intestinal, but I cannot make a diagnosis. Regarding the supplement and treatment you are giving her, neither she nor I can answer that and since we are not veterinarians. What she does keep showing me is her eye issues; this is something she wants to be noted. You ask whether her antibiotics are still an appropriate treatment. Again, these are veterinary questions that we cannot answer. As far as proceeding with her upcoming surgery, she would like you to go ahead with that and the CAT scan you are considering at the vet’s request. I see an issue with her ear or
her glands/lymph nodes. Is she doing any head shaking? Has she swollen anywhere? It could also be that she needs her ears cleaned or her hearing is waning. Have you noticed subtle changes in her ability to come when you call her? Please have the vet check this. I can’t provide an answer to your arthritis question. Emma cannot diagnose a disease like arthritis. I see you massaging her from the front from her shoulders down to her chest and a bit lower. It will be soothing and relaxing and will help you with the bonding you ask about. Touch is very important especially for a dog with impaired vision. Again, whether or not her insulin needs adjustment is a medical question not in her domain. When I ask if she feels OK regarding her blood
sugar, she tells me yes, she is in the target range, but it should be checked. Does she want you to proceed with surgery? Yes. She knows her vision can improve. To live her last years with ease and grace, send her light. Imagining she is surrounded by light at all times will calm her down and promote healing. She needs love above all. And love her enough to know when it is time to let her go. She has so many challenges, but as long as she is mobile, not incontinent, and living a peacefully, she has dignity and grace. Last week I checked in with her to see how Emma was progressing, learning that she has not yet had the surgery. I’m sending her light and hoping for the best.

Remember Your True Identity By Guy Finley
Omtimes.com
When we see this world as a hostile place where new attacks are constantly launched against a shaky self, it only seems natural for us to be self-protective, and that’s exactly what we do. We put tremendous amounts of energy into developing and carrying
out our plans for defense. Thus, we justify our actions to ward off the possible criticism of others. We fawn before people we see as more powerful than we are. We tell ourselves that we are superior to those we see as less powerful than ourselves. So, instead of living our lives fully and freely, we suffer from constantly comparing ourselves to others while unconsciously hoping we can make ourselves into someone against whom others will compare themselves! In a way, it’s as though we have built psychological bunkers from which we peer out at the world, wondering where the next attack will come. Whenever we find ourselves hunkering down in those bunkers, building our defenses and planning our attacks, it would be an excellent time to remember this new view of our lives: that we are actually unfolding from the inside out, regardless of the perception we have that the problems lie in
threatening enemies that charge us from outside. This means that instead of putting our attention on what others have done or said, or what the news of the day is, we turn our attention inward. When we see the “attack” coming, we turn our attention around to see that it is only our false view that perceives an attack; and when we see that the “threat” we’re about to battle is really just a shadow -- cast off from a false idea we hold about ourselves -- then we meet the event from our true self; our own awakened nature whose higher understanding realizes that the perceived “attack” upon us has no power of itself. It is only our reaction to it, our belief in the insulted or hurt self it gives rise to, that gives it any power over us. In the past, we accepted the cruel remark of a thoughtless person as being something real, with the power to hurt us. Our wrong thinking created the problem, and therefore could never solve it. It was not separate from the problem.
Omtimes.com
Now, as our new and higher awareness refuses to give our life energy to perpetuating the wrong thinking, the problem must fall away from itself. To achieve this state, we must first become tired of fighting all these battles and trying to be strong from our own present idea of strength. We can be that rare person who says, “I won’t try to be strong anymore. I’ll just watch. I’ll start to participate in my life in a whole new way.” This means working to see that our life is created from the inside out. When our tricked perception sees something as threatening, we are tricked into another battle. When our conscious awareness sees that there are only passing events and does not get involved, there are no battles. The only critical issue is what unfolds inside of us. We cannot change, control, or be stronger than anything our mind says is outside of us. But we can be inwardly awake, conscious of the fact that we
Omtimes.com
don’t need to be stronger than what we see because we aren’t really separate from what we see. We just need to start seeing more accurately. Then, we will understand that there is another kind of strength altogether -- a higher strength -- of which we can partake. Resting in that strength means we don’t have to try to win anything outside at all. Excerpted from “The Intimate Enemy” by Guy Finley, © 2017 Life of Learning Foundation, Inc. All rights reserved. Embracing the Hater Within by Crystal Presence
Omtimes.com
Abstract: A brief description of haters. Acknowledging that we often shame and blame them for many of the problems in the world. Discussion about acknowledging and embracing the hater within each of us. Tips on how to embrace our
hater and set it free to be a loving catalyst for the changes we want to see in the world. Haters are usually thought of as people who greatly dislike and criticize a person, group or thing. Haters are often talked about, shamed and blamed for many of the problems in the world. As we look for resolution we often overlook the part of us that is secretly a hater too. We may be hating ourselves or others who we believe are ruining our lives. We may be hating ourselves for wondering if bombing, exterminating and imprisoning haters might be the best way to get rid of them. We also may be hating the vulnerability and powerlessness we feel about not having control over the thoughts, feelings and behavior of others in world. What if we decide to acknowledge and embrace the hater within? What if acknowledge the reflection of hate that we see in the world
to learn more about ourselves and others? What if we set our hater free to be a loving catalyst for the changes we want to see in the world?
Examples of how to embrace and set our hater free. Releasing the belief that hating is bad or wrong. Bringing understanding into hate as an emotion that rises up inside to alert us that it time to make a change. It starts with irritation, annoyance, frustration, anger and eventually grows to hate and crisis if we do not respond to ourselves. Wherever we find ourselves hating we can embrace, express and love it back to love and wellness. Allowing the hater within to express how it thinks, feels and behaves. Once we learn how connect and embrace the hater inside we can bring compassion and love to any hateful condition. A great exercise is to find a safe
Omtimes.com
space to express the word hate. Start by pronouncing the word out loud as haaaaaaaaaate (sounds like hay-te).Then turn up the volume (hitting some pillows or yelling it into a cupped hand can speed up the process). Notice how expressing the sound opens up a pathway from the throat down to the spine. Now listen while we let the hater speak. Respond when we are ready. Vibration and interaction brings love, compassion and understanding to wherever we want and need it. Engaging in lots of physical, mental and emotional movement. Dancing, singing, running, walking, breathing and whatever shifts our vibration to alignment with self and source. This creates space for something new to happen and change beliefs such as haters are “just who they are” to “all beings are love and always will be”. Staying connected to ourselves, our source and
Omtimes.com
the internal guidance system that we each have to guide us to peace, love and freedom. Noticing if we are trying to ignore our true feelings about haters. Ignoring makes hate crop up with greater force and persistence as in mass shootings, growing numbers of hate groups and other forms of unrest and violence. Acknowledging that we live in an addicted society that promotes the avoidance of feelings. Much of our society tries to drink, drug and bomb hate away. Pushing parts of ourselves away drains our power and can leave us feeling powerless and hateful. Leaders such as Diamond and River Jameson, founders of the leading edge process, Living Freedom, show us how taking full responsibility for reclaiming the reflection of the hate that we see in our world. Taking full responsibility is the key to
bringing forth a new context of living that supports love wellness for all beings. Learning not to take our hater personally. Letting go of using haters (whether inside or out) for keeping the addictive cycle of hatred going. Releasing fixation on hate to focus our energy on allowing resolution. Noticing if we are carrying peace signs along with hate signs. Hate signs about corporations, politicians or whoever we think is disrupting our peace. The vibrational energy we have for whatever sign we carry perpetuates more of what we want or do not want Reaching out in conversations with others. Asking questions about the motivation behind hate. What is behind wishing someone would die as a way to resolve an uncomfortable condition? Behind every hater is a story. We all are love no matter what the evidence.
Envisioning a loving and peaceful world. Trusting that the hate and crisis in the world is part of what is ultimately guiding us to love. Asking powerful questions such as what is the nature of experiencing a world free of hate? Remembering we do not need to have all the answers. Wherever there is a problem there is a resolution. Choosing Conscious Evolution A New Year Resolution that Can Change the World By Tara Meyer-Robson
For most of us, our dearest wish is to make a real difference in the world. This year, instead of New Year’s resolutions filled with stress and deprivation, make a resolution that will create
Omtimes.com
meaningful change in the world for yourself and others. It’s that time of year again when the dreaded “New Year’s Resolutions” lists are created, and we cause ourselves untold stress trying to make radical changes as quickly as possible. That’s fine and well, but for many of us, the pressure around this time of year doesn’t support the lasting change we’d like to create for ourselves and the world. A better way is something I call “conscious evolution.” Thanks to Charles Darwin, we are aware that evolution happens at a subconscious level, such as the development of opposable thumbs. As a response to a threat to survival, a life form evolves in such a way to benefit all creatures of that species. Obviously, this happens without any conscious intent of the life form in question.
However, we can also help evolution to happen in the ways we desire by using our conscious minds to create a higher collective frequency for all of us. This can happen due to something physicist David Bohm noted in his theory of quantum potential. Essentially, Bohm showed that while we experience ourselves as separate from others, we aren’t; we are all part of a flowing ocean of energy that is creating and recreating itself based on the frequency of each different perspective (the combination of beliefs and expectations we each hold). This collectivefrequency is constantly changing as new thoughts and actions are created and added to the whole. Like individual notes in a song, each of us puts our individual frequency toward the whole, changing the overall frequency with the notes that we choose to play.
Omtimes.com
The more that these thoughts are repeated, the bigger impact they have on programming the collective frequency to a higher or lower frequency. Each thought or action that is of a positive frequency adds to the overall frequency of the collective consciousness, raising the frequency and changing our collective experience by seeking new experiences from quantum potential. When this frequency is repeated by many minds, this shift tunes into a better way of life for all of us— at that moment, life has evolved. Each time we choose to cocreate a moment in alignment with the very best attributes of life, we are adding a note to the overall frequency of life that tunes all life into a better existence. By continuing to do this in each moment, we
Omtimes.com
become a powerful signal that shifts the universal energy to a better way of life. This year, rather than making stress-filled resolutions, we can each make a conscious choice to live each day with love in our hearts. When faced with a decision, we can bring our awareness to that choice and make the one that flows with hope, faith, love, joy, and goodness. We can make a choice to stop judging ourselves and others, and instead, to listen, connect, and understand those that are different from ourselves. In so doing, we can know that we are succeeding in our collective resolution; we are, together raising the frequencies of the world to create meaningful and lasting change in the world. That’s a resolution that we can all get behind.

Seven Ways to Bri ng Peace i nto Our Lives By Judi Lynch
Our consciousness thrives on peaceful practices which help align our miraculous ability to heal. This empowers us in many ways. Our lives can get busy, complicated and confusing even with the best of intentions. If we remember to take the time and recharge our energy, we can help take control of stress and anxiety. Our Omtimes.com
consciousness thrives on peaceful practices which help align our miraculous ability to heal. This empowers us in many ways. Our physical bodies need rest to help charge our etheric bodies which run our metaphysical connections and spiritual assistance. When we are operating on low energy, it has an effect on every aspect of our life. When our minds are preoccupied with too many responsibilities or life challenges, we can forget how it feels to just sit and be present. Feelings of disconnection or hopelessness can creep in when we become a sponge for the negative energies around us. Just like cleaning out a closet, we may need to purge the past to make room for new thoughts and good habits. There are several things we can practice on a daily and weekly basis which can help immensely in how fast we heal, process challenges and intuit our missions and purposes. 1. Practicing awareness- being aware of our energetic connection to everyone and everything. Being mindful of actions, reactions, and responses
to compassion and humanity. 2. Practicing meditation for healing and connection – being still and intuiting the messages and healing connections being offered to you. This isn’t always a message from our spiritual guides, this could also be a door to information we had stored away years ago and now need access to. A long forgotten recipe or a beautiful sunset with friends and dinner on the beach. These images along with music and sound, send happy signals to our brains to relax and let in some bliss. 3. Breathing techniques – When we take a couple of deep cleansing breathes, our brains benefit tremendously. There are many methods of breathing to study which aid in your overall health. 4. Visualization – if we are unhappy or anxious about expectations for a future event, we can visualize ourselves already there. This brings in the thought process of making hope a possibility and the synchronicity to help bring plans to fruition. We also have to take action on what we are seeing and hearing in real time. If we are in fear of a future situation, we can also Omtimes.com
visualize our fear, then the solution to prevent it from happening or the knowledge that the fear is unfounded and cannot happen. 5. Gratitude- If we can all find something or many things every day to be grateful for, we can create an abundance of peace energy. Practicing gratitude helps us with attachments to people, learning their nuances and the expectations of others. Our ability to identify the small things that change lives in big ways in the people we meet, truly seeing their value is an amazing example of being thankful for our blessings. We can bring in more signs and synchronicity from the Universe when we practice gratefulness every day. 6. Appreciation for nature – experiencing nature in our own way. Whether we are taking a hike in the woods or a walk in the park, birdwatching out the front window or camping in the woods, we are recharging. Humans who share their space with dogs, cats, birds and other pets feel the bond we have with all living creatures and beings. All of these amazing Omtimes.com
connections uplift our spirits and enrich our energy fields in incredible ways. 7. Forgiveness and remembering to smile – we can all use more humor in our daily lives. Learning to laugh at our own mistakes or misguided adventures. Forgiving ourselves and others for things that just don’t matter. Appreciating a good joke or those around us who entertain to life our spirits help us have things in common with others. When we accept our mistakes, and if possible make amends for ways in which we may have hurt others, we have to remember to heal. We raise our vibration when we live in the now instead of the past or fear of the future. About the Author: Judi Lynch is a psychic medium, intuitive counselor, healing channel, and author.
