WHERE EVERYONE IS WELCOME An Interview with Paul Avgerinos, Kabir Sehgal, and Deepak Chopra
In 1883, Emma Lazarus wrote the sonnet, “The New Colossus.” Her precious words are inscribed on a bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty. The words read,
Omtimes.com
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” For many generations of Americans, these words were also inscribed in their hearts; recognizing that other than the indigenous people of this fair land, we are all the descendants
of immigrants. Yet recently, there seems to be a memory lapse…a forgetting of how immigrants built this country with their sweat, toil, tears, blood and dreams; and a rejection, based upon fear and ignorance, of the value of those who would come and join us in this purely American adventure. What can we do to restore the memories, eradicate the fear, and inform those who have been misled about the seeds of greatness from foreign lands that blossomed and continue to flourish in this country. Paul Avgerinos, Deepak Chopra, and Kabir Sehgal have collaborated on a beautiful collection of poems and songs inspired by American Immigrants called, Home: Where Everyone is Welcome. Paul is a first generation American, whose father Costas emigrated from Greece to the

U.S. in 1938. Paul is a Grammy wining artist, composer, producer and engineer with 23 critically acclaimed New Age Albums to his credit. He is active in creating scores for a variety of television shows. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and runs Studio Unicorn. Kabir Sehgal is also a first generation American and his parents are both from India. He is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal Best Selling Author of eight books such as Coined and Jazzocracy. He is a multi-Grammy and Latin Grammy Award Winning producer. He is a US Navy Veteran and works in Corporate Strategy at First Data Corporation in New York City. Deepak Chopra needs little introduction. He was an immigrant from India who moved to the U.S. in 1970 and became a citizen in 1984. He is a world-renowned pioneer in integrative medicine, founder of the Chopra Center, author,

lecturer and music composer. Time Magazine labelled him one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century.
Victor Fuhrman: Deepak, what was your personal experience with the immigration process, how did you feel when you arrived and your years leading to citizenship. Deepak Chopra: I left India and came to the United States in the 1970s as a medical doctor. Some of my first experiences include working in the emergency room of community hospitals. It was a totally new experience, one in which I experienced pride, adventure, and much happiness. Of course, I was grateful to be in the US, and it has given me opportunities beyond my wildest dreams. Victor Fuhrman: Kabir, what was your personal experience with being the first generation son of an immigrant.
Kabir Sehgal: I grew up in the south as the son of Indian immigrants. My father was a successful business man who ran an engineering firm, but he still faced discrimination and intolerance. At my high school, students wore confederate belt buckles. Nevertheless, I’ve always been grateful to my beloved country and I joined the military as a reservist so that I could defend it. Victor Fuhrman: What are your feelings on the current anti-immigrant climate and what those with open hearts and minds can do to turn this around. Deepak Chopra: What’s going on in America right now can suffocate the creativity and imagination of future generations. When people face fear, they close down emotionally, and we put in jeopardy an open society. We’re going through a period of tribalism that threatens the very fabric of our society. I encourage everyone to try to enlarge their empathy for others – by reading
stories and listening to music of people from different cultures, so you can “walk in their shoes.” Kabir Sehgal: We have to resist the current political climate, as it’s turned inhospitable and unwelcoming to immigrants. Building a wall isn’t just a physical act but a mental one in which Americans can shut down and hide from each other. And we need to create art to melt away these borders and walls. We want to send the message of welcome and belonging. Victor Fuhrman: What are your personal favorite poems or songs on the project. Deepak Chopra: Infinity, which is about a personal hero, Albert Einstein. Kabir Sehgal: Home, which is about my father.
Victor Fuhrman: Paul, talk to me about your own musical aspirations. How did they develop?
Omtimes.com
Paul Avgerinos: Well, like a lot of young musicians, I started out playing in the school system. I played trumpet, bass, and guitar in local rock bands and stuff, but around the age of 15 and 16, I started realizing that music had a great spiritual power besides its more obvious powers to uplift and entertain and comfort. I started realizing that music was a spiritual path that one could awaken through music, could expand one’s consciousness through playing and composing and performing music in a very spiritually focused way. That was a big breakthrough, and everything started changing very quickly at that point for me. Victor Fuhrman: Were you exposed to Gregorian chants as a young man? Paul Avgerinos: I was very blessed to hear all kinds of music, and one of the artists that really took me to a whole other level was Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, who I heard when I was 16. At first, I was just dumbfounded. I couldn’t
Omtimes.com
even understand what he was doing, it just seemed so complicated and sophisticated. But, of course, I grew into it, and he’s one of the main reasons why I went into music professionally. There’s no doubt about it. It was just a very blessed experience. Victor Fuhrman: Was he a disciple of a guru? Paul Avgerinos: Yes, Sri Chinmoy. Victor Fuhrman: He was inspired by Sri Chinmoy. And then, also, he had introduced Carlos Santana to Sri Chinmoy, and a lot of the music that came out of that experience. It was very transcendental. Paul Avgerinos: It’s very true, and the amazing thing was every Saturday, Sri Chinmoy would come by car up to Norwalk, Connecticut, which was about 20 minutes from where I was growing up in Wilton, Connecticut. I used to go down to these meditations
and sit in a room with Sri Chinmoy and about 15 other devotees. One day, we came in from meditation and standing at the front was Carlos Santana all dressed in white. And Guru said, look at little Carlito, oh, what a good boy he is, you should all be like him. A lot of us were musicians, so we all said, yeah, we want to be just like him. It was so funny. Victor Fuhrman: The music that came out of that period was really transcendent. It was breathtaking music. Paul Avgerinos: Yeah, it was a very special time in music: jazz-rock fusion, new hybrids that had never been heard before. A very powerful and transformative time, very blessed time to be coming up as a musician because influences were so strong and rich all around. Victor Fuhrman: Was that what set the seed in you for creating new-age soundscapes? Paul Avgerinos: Well, I started
out doing a lot of jazz and jazzrock fusion and classical music and all to build my skill as a musician, but, then I realized that what I really wanted to do was to help other people to be more peaceful and more centered and meditative and contemplative and to help their spiritual awakening. And so, by creating music that helped my spiritual awakening and my contemplative nature, I was able to serve a larger purpose. This is what often happens with people in New Age music. It’s a beautiful place to be, to be able to serve a higher purpose and, in my case, to earn a very good living from it. This is a great blessing, a great blessing for me. Victor Fuhrman: So, what is the secret to composing music that allows the mind to both expand and be fully present? Paul Avgerinos: Well, for me, it starts with a very clear intention or what the Indians would call Sankalpa. This is where you make a very positive
Omtimes.com
intention, or we might call it an affirmation. Then to quiet the mind and quiet the emotions and quiet the ego and allow the spirit, the higher spirit, the universal consciousness to flow through you, to use me, to use the artist as an instrument. I, the Paul, the eye, the small, I disappear, and the music just flows through me, and I’m a servant of that music. I give it voice, or I help it as a midwife, I help it to come to life. But, it’s not coming from me. It’s coming from a much higher, bigger place and just happens to be flowing through me on the local level. As Deepak would say, the local aspect is Paul, but what’s coming through is pure consciousness. Victor Fuhrman: Paul, how did your collaboration with Deepak and Kabir come about? Paul Avgerinos: Well, Kabir and I were talking last year about doing a project together, and I was thinking of doing something called Oneness, which would be a tour of all the major fates and philosophies
Omtimes.com
and showing how they had in common have their heart, love, and compassion. And as the political situation thickened and intensified, Kabir started thinking, well, you know, wouldn’t it be great to do something about immigrants and about our wonderful history that we have here because Kabir and I are both first generations, and we knew that Deepak is an immigrant himself. And so, we all started talking, the three of us, and the project came about in a very serendipitous way and very quickly, too. It was just wonderful. It just was meant to be. It very much felt like it was meant to be. Victor Fuhrman: It’s like the Buddhist concept of readiness in time when everything comes together at a specific time, and the people who are supposed to be involved in it are together, then the magic happens. Paul Avgerinos: Yeah, exactly like that. It’s very beautiful. Victor Fuhrman: Now, the
project, as you intimated, comes at a time when xenophobia is being promulgated by some of our leadership. Were any of you concerned about this, or did it, in fact, make the inspiration greater? Paul Avgerinos: It’s very true. We all are very concerned about this, and we felt that the best response was a positive response. As Deepak says, you can’t fight darkness with darkness. But if you just shine your light more brightly, it will help to illuminate the darkness, and it will help people to see that being welcoming, compassionate, accepting wisdom, which is expansive and inclusive, feels good. It’s a very simple test. If something feels bad, it is bad. It’s based on fear. It’s grounded on falseness and based on ignorance. And so, we were so happy to find this vehicle to contribute a positive message to the discussion and the thought that the idea that we would like to move the discussion in a more positive direction. While we are doing this book
of poems and music, we’re also active in various publications with op-ed articles, where we’re sharing some of the wonderful facts about how wonderful immigrants are, and how they are basically the engine of our economic prosperity and our cultural success. The founder of Google is an immigrant. I mean, it’s the most powerful, innovative company in the world. It wouldn’t have been started if he had been banned from coming to America. So, there you have it. It’s easy to go on and on with it because it’s based on the truth. Victor Fuhrman: Extending that to how many wonderful physicians who have saved countless lives started as immigrants coming to this country. How many people who are spiritual leaders came as immigrants to this country. Let’s say, of someone who is an immigrant today, how does that immigrant see and relate to people who were born here and who seem not to understand their culture and experience? What do you think that feels like?
Omtimes.com
Paul Avgerinos: It’s hard to actually know exactly what it feels like, because I had the blessing of being born here. It can be very hard. Deepak has related some stories, personal stories of discrimination and misunderstanding about him. I think it makes them stronger. They just realize that ignorance is not a reflection of them. It’s a reflection upon the person that’s expressing any type of prejudice or a unappreciation. It’s important to stay true to yourself and your values, and eventually, these things resolve themselves, although they can be very uncomfortable and painful for people at times. In the long run, the country will grow stronger and more diverse. It’s inevitable that America will continue to become more and more diverse. Some people want to go back to some imaginary world that actually never existed. Eventually, they will fade out, and more open-minded people will take their place. Anytime anyone expresses any anger or hatred or intolerance,
Omtimes.com
it’s because they’re afraid. There’s some deep-seeded fear. They’re afraid they’re going to lose something, or something will be taken away from them, or things will be out of their control. It’s simply fear based, and the only remedy for fear is love. As always, love is the answer. Victor Fuhrman: Absolutely. Extending it to the position of the first generation American who may experience prejudice or intolerance based upon being a different race or having a different faith, how do we address that? Paul Avgerinos: I think it’s important to remember that the majority of the American population is very much in favor of diversity, inclusion, acceptance, compassion, tolerance, and oneness. Unfortunately, people forget this because a few people are able to make an inordinate amount of noise and grab the microphone, the public microphone, and make loud and boisterous proclamations, but, they do not speak for the
American people. Most American people are wonderfully kind and compassionate and loving and giving: they will give you the shirt off their back. It’s one of the difficulties of this digital age that we live in is that there’s a lot of noise in the public discourse, which is very shortlived, and people mistake the short-lived noise for the actual feelings of the country at large. That’s something that we’re learning to coexist within this modern digital age of sound bytes and Twitter proclamations and such. That’s something we all have to remember. Don’t believe what you’re told on Twitter or on Facebook or wherever. Ask your friends and neighbors how do they feel. Talk to each other. That’s one of the points of this project is to get people to ask each other, well, tell me about your family’s history, where is your family from. Victor Fuhrman: I must share with you that my family
and I are very blessed to be living in a part of New York, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. There we have so much diversity and so many immigrants from so many different places and cultures living together side by side, sharing the richness of their culture, sharing the richness of what they bring to this country. I have people from Croatia, on the right side of me, I have people from India and Pakistan, across the street from me, I have people from China. I have people from all parts of the world living on this one block here in Queens, New York, all living together in harmony, sharing this wonderful American dream together and sharing the richness of the cultures and the faiths that they brought with them. It’s just truly a miracle, a living miracle right here. And if everyone in the world could come and spend a few hours on my block, what a lesson they would learn - just truly amazing. Paul Avgerinos: That’s for sure. That’s exactly right. That’s what Deepak always
Omtimes.com
says. It’s just so rich, and it’s all interacting and creative in fantastic ways. That’s the future. That’s a good thing. That’s a very, very, good thing, because then everyone realizes we’re all basically the same. Victor Fuhrman: Paul, how did you folks come up with this lovely format of a book of poems along with a disk of music and meditation? Paul Avgerinos: Well, we thought it would be wonderful to tell the stories of these wonderful immigrants. There are actually 36 poems in the book and 12 songs on the album. We thought we would take a few of our favorite poems and just use little snippets of the poems, key phrases that Deepak could just sing or whisper or speak to give a meditative, contemplative space for the listener to find their own home in, whether it’s a place or a state of mind. Victor Fuhrman: I understand that, if you listen, you can hear Deepak singing on this one. Is that correct?
Omtimes.com
Paul Avgerinos: That’s right. Yeah, that was one of the big thrills of this item was getting to work with Deepak’s singing voice. He has a lovely voice, as we all know from his narrations and guided meditations and all. I also talked him into singing. Here I am singing, especially on the opening track called Home, and on this track called Queen he sings quite a bit, and it’s just really lovely to be able to share that with you. Victor Fuhrman: Aside from your father’s poem, do you have a personal favorite? Paul Avgerinos: One of the ones I really like a lot is called Father, and it’s inspired by Krishan Chopra, Deepak’s father, it’s just a very transcendental poem that expresses a lot of the deeper wisdom that we have about existence. So, that’s one that always struck me very strongly. Victor Fuhrman: And who are some of the other luminaries that inspired your poems in this? Paul Avgerinos: Well, we have poems dedicated to Albert
Einstein and to Audrey Hepburn and just so many amazing immigrants. Not all famous people but people that are inspiring. Survivor for instance was inspired by William Hemano, which is a Columbian immigrant. He was the first responder in 911, and he rushed into the tower, was trained to help save people. Everyone in his squad perished except for him. We dedicated a poem to him, and the music is called Survivor. Kabir serves in the military. He tells about how many of the people fighting for America risking their lives are not even US citizens, yet they’re out there risking their necks for this country. So, I think we should appreciate them more and honor their sacrifice and the tremendous giving that they do. It’s not correct, it’s not right or Dharmic, to repay goodness with contempt. Victor Fuhrman: Absolutely. And I think the recent natural disasters that have transpired with the hurricanes and the earthquakes demonstrate clearly that the first responders
include immigrants who, as you say, put their life on the line for others, which is the greatest gift anyone can give. Paul Avgerinos: Sure. Look at that dreamer who was in Houston, was out there working without sleep day after day, day and night, and while he’s doing that he hears that his program has been ended. We need to think more carefully before we take these rash actions. This is one of the plagues of our day and age that people don’t think carefully enough about what they do that affects so many other people. We have to think of others first. As my Guru Amma, the Hugging Saint, says, think of other people, serve other people, do some good for other people, and then you’ll find your life gets better. If you’re only thinking of yourself and being self-absorbed like that, nothing good will come of it. Victor Fuhrman: Words to live by - The Message From Home, Where Everyone is Welcome: Poems and Songs Inspired by American Immigrants.

Herbal medicine is a wonderful preventative solution. Complications can arise when taking herbal medicine and allopathic drugs your doctor has prescribed. Great caution should be used especially if you are on blood thinners, diuretics or any other heart-related medication. Consult your doctor with any questions you may have, before taking additional herbs or supplements. Here is a list of my top 10 favorite herbs for digestive issues: 1. Cardamom warms up the digestive tract, speeds up and increases the thoroughness of digestion, and reduces gas. 2. Cinnamon Cassia: In Ayurveda, this warming spice reduces Vata and Kapha and is traditionally used in cold formulas, regulates blood sugar and is used for strengthening digestion. Cinnamon is a useful remedy for sluggish digestion. The German Commission E recommends it for loss of appetite, dyspeptic complaints, bloating and flatulence. 3. Fennel Seed: Foeniculum vulgare is a common spice that is traditionally used to improve
digestion and absorption without increasing Pitta. The seeds are also chewed after meals to freshen the breath and alleviate gas. 4. Flaxseed Oil is an edible oil derived from the seeds of the Flax plant (Linum usitatissimum) and is one of the best plant sources of the Omega-3 fatty acid Alpha-Linolenic Acid available. Naturally occurring constituents in Flaxseed Oil may help to balance the production of prostaglandins and support cardiovascular and bowel health. 5. Ginger Root: In Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda it is used as a general panacea that is especially useful for digestive and respiratory complaints. It also dispels nausea and acts as a diaphoretic. Ginger is a time-tested digestive remedy for stomach upset. European practitioners also use ginger in tea for indigestion. It reduces spasms and increases the secretion of digestive juices, including bile and saliva. Ginger contains ingredients that soothe the gut and aid digestion by increasing peristalsis that moves food through the intestine. Use 1 teaspoon of the chopped root brewed as tea, three times a day. 6. Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) guards digestive mucous membranes by increasing the production of mucin, a secretion that protects gut linings against stomach acid and other digestive juices. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice root (DGL) removes the glycyrrhizic acid (the ingredient in licorice root associated with the possibility of increasing blood pressure and water retention). The soothing part of the root, however, remains intact in DGL. Use 1 teaspoon of the chopped herb brewed as tea, three times a day, or 1 to 2 chewable wafers of DGL (250 to 500 mg) 15 minutes before meals and one to two hours before bedtime. 7. Parsley Leaf: A natural diuretic, parsley helps eliminate wastes and lessen water retention, which can aid in weight loss. Its high enzyme content improves digestion of proteins and fats and absorption of nutrients. Parsley is a natural breath freshener. 8. Peppermint is a wellknown digestive herb for easing tummy troubles. Enteric-coated

peppermint oil capsules work well to prevent dyspepsia. Peppermint oil is a relaxant for the muscles of the intestinal wall. The essential oil can be massaged over the belly to relieve spasms. Take 1 teaspoon the liquid tincture or the dried leaf, brewed as tea, three times a day, or 0.2 to 0.4 ml of an entericcoated capsule three times a day. 9. Triphala: This formula cleanses the entire GI tract, supporting digestion and gently maintaining regularity. Considered in Ayurveda to be a general panacea for all doshas, it is also used to support weight management, improve the complexion and strengthen the urinary tract. 10. Turmeric: A traditional Indian cooking spice that improves digestion and purifies the blood. Believed to act as a natural antibiotic and antiseptic. What is to be Living In Fear? By John Holland
As I write this article, I can’t help to think of how this past couple of months has been very difficult for thousands if not millions of people all around the world! With
Omtimes.com
earthquakes in Mexico, mudslides in Sierra Leone, the catastrophic floods in India, the hurricanes that tore through the Caribbean & Florida, and now the heartbreaking tragedy that just happened in Las Vegas it’s almost too much to bear. Usually, I watch the news every evening for just 30 minutes to keep me caught up on what’s happening around the world as well as in my area. Right now, that’s all I allow myself to watch. The other day when I was watching the news, the story of Las Vegas came on, and I was shocked, hurt, and sad to see how one person can harm so many. It left me feeling utterly numb! Most of us watched the news about the Mexico earthquake, the hurricane, and floods in
Texas, as well as the hurricane that just happened in Florida. I know many people are saying to themselves: “What’s happening?!” I can’t remember a time where we had a succession of such dramatic and tragic events happen one after the other, caused by both nature and man. Many people turn to me for guidance and wisdom and sometimes ... even I am at a loss of what to say. All I can offer right now is to write about what keeps me going during this difficult time. I try not to focus all my attention on the tragedies – but focus and acknowledge the many thousands of people who are coming together in unity to help one another. There have been many heroes! That’s what I am choosing to focus on ... the good in people!

We tend to live in fear when we see so much of it right in front of us. Some things are beyond our control and when we don’t have control – fear emerges. I asked my dear friend Lauren Rainbow the other day: “How does one stop living in fear?” She said she remembered a quote from many years ago that she heard: “The opposite of fear – is love.” Those few little words made total sense to me and made me feel peaceful. So, my advice in this short Soul Inspirations, which is dedicated to the recent news is this. Right now, try to stay present. Make time and go inside for a few minutes every day. Breathe and recognize that peace lives in you. Reach for the peace that dwells there. Feel the peace
Omtimes.com
and feel the love. This is also a good time to be grateful for what you do have in your life. It doesn’t matter how small it is. Being grateful helps to keep you in the here and now. Gratitude has its own wonderful positive energy to it. Send out the peace and love that you feel for everyone who needs it. When you have your own inner-peace, it can resonate to those around you. If everyone did this, then imagine how it would be felt around the world? I hope this helps in one small way – and you received it, just when you or someone else needed it. Maybe just forward it to someone you know who’s hurting right now. Many Blessings to you.

Reincarnation, Past Lives and the In-between by Rizwan Virk
omtimes.com
November A 2017 Edition
In some Buddhist traditions, the process of incarnating requires crossing the “River of Forgetfulness,” where we forget all about our past lives and the intent, mission, and karma we are here to fulfill in this life. Similarly, in Chinese mythology, the goddess Meng Po is the Lady of Forgetfulness, and she brews up a Tea of Forgetfulness for us, that we drink just before incarnating. This helps us forget our past lives so that we can have a “fresh start.” Unfortunately, it also causes us to forget our memories of the “in-between” place as well, including our mission for this life. Sometimes we are given a direct glimpse of what our life’s work is. Winston Churchill was said to have told a friend when he was just a boy that one day he was going to be called on to save the British Empire. For most of us, we don't get a direct vision or message of what we were meant to do in life. In fact, we might not be sure, but we usually have hunches and guesses. We get little glimpses of things that draw our attention: interests, activities, and people that bring us joy. These are the little clues that are placed for us along the way, like breadcrumbs leading us on a cosmic treasure hunt, back to the place and person we were meant to be in this life.

5 Tips for Meaningful Meditations By Harper Harmon
For some, meditation is the way to calm nerves or relax after a tense situation. For others, it is a way to let go of the temporal things of the world even if just for a few moments. No matter what meditation is used for, it is an important aspect of everyday life, especially with regards to your overall health. Meditation is a process, and it takes time to master the art. Omtimes.com
Meditation can be quite helpful for one’s mental and physical health. Meditating meaningfully, though, takes practice. Below are a few tips to help you along your journey to better meditation.
Isolation Helps Isolation helps when it comes to meditation. Try to find a spot
where you won’t only be alone, but where no one can interrupt you. This can be difficult for some, but it is possible. If you have nowhere to go home, try meditating in your car - or even in a bathroom. When you’re alone, you can truly begin to empty your mind.
Know Your Rhythms There’s a right time and a wrong time to meditate. If you know you’re going to fall asleep when you close your eyes at night, you might want to meditate during the day. If you know you’re too keyed up in the morning to relax, you might want to meditate later on. While others might suggest a good time for you to meditate, only you know your body’s rhythms.
Seek Guidance There’s nothing wrong with seeking guidance when it comes to meditation. For some, this might mean reading a book about the subject. For others, it might mean going to classes. Try to find someone who knows more about meditation to guide you through the process. You’ll be surprised by what you can learn by listening to a tape or by
speaking with someone who has been meditating for years.
Learn to Let Go A huge part of meditation is learning how to let go. When you sit down to meditation, you must let your temporal cares go away. If injured in a car accident, for example, don’t worry. Just contact an attorney. Instead of dwelling on your cares, do something. Put the worry away, and you’ll be able to meditate a bit more easily.
It’s a Process Finally, try to realize that meditation really is a skill. That means that you won’t master it your first go and that you might not get much out of it at the beginning. The more you meditate, though, the easier it will become. Exercise this skill as often as you can so you’ll benefit from it. You may be surprised at how quickly you progress. Don’t give up on meditation. Try following the tips above to get more out of the process. With the right setting and the right instruction, you can begin to use meditation to change the way your mind works. Omtimes.com
Unsolved Mysteries Revealed through the Esoteric Arts By Kartar Diamond
I posted an article on Facebook in June 2017 about the important differences between a “hoax” and a “false flag” event. And I intentionally did not make any politically biased references. In fact, even if you don’t believe that hoaxes or
Omtimes.com
false flags ever occur, you can still agree that many strange events and crimes don’t get solved. Innocent people get charged and convicted all too often. The cliffhanger for that article is about whether or not esoteric arts can reveal when an event, perceived by many or most, is really not what it appears to be. As a theoretical example, let’s say that some well-known personality appears to have committed suicide and that is accepted by the public as the official cause of death. Would an astrologer be able to consider their personal chart and proclaim with accuracy that there is no way in hell such person would commit suicide? Was it more likely foul play or some other cause? Or could a hoax be so nearly flawless that no one realizes for decades, or forever, that something didn’t happen— while the astrology report still
confirms that it did happen? I think that in general, that some esoteric arts are reliable at predicting certain things will happen, but not necessarily explain the big WHY. Feng Shui focuses on the physical environment and how it affects the individual and not so much the other way around. There are personal aspects to Feng Shui, where a person can turn lemons into lemonade, by adjusting their environment, but Feng shui still does not have a 100% influence. And if you believe in Free Will, then nothing is really cast in stone; the predictions are only trends or possible scenarios. As another example, your Feng shui may reveal you are in a legal problem, but not be so specific to show that it is your disgruntled neighbor who called the Department of Building and Safety when you were remodeling without permits! Or why the neighbor did that?
Omtimes.com
Feng Shui has many complementary practices, including Nine Star Ki, where the chart can reveal the personal traits and cycle an individual is in, as well as what the overall trends are for the world at large or one’s own local area. Even in this practice, it is hard to be 100% accurate or that specific. For example, when I was studying the Nine Star Ki yearly and monthly charts regarding the Boston Marathon bombers, my mentor asked me where the younger brother could be hiding. One tidbit of information suggested a boat, which seemed ridiculous even as I had a flash of the young man escaping James Bondstyle on a jet ski, and yet he was found hiding in a covered boat. In retrospect, that was a lucky guess because that same bit in the chart could have also suggested he was hiding in a restaurant.

Sometimes law enforcement resorts to psychics for help in solving a case. And like remote viewing, the psychic has to be highly skilled in which “multiverse” they are dipping into. With Chinese, Western and Vedic astrology, or I-Ching divination, different sides of a story can be revealed, and some practitioners use everything at their disposal from various systems to make a more nuanced and specific discovery. About predictive arts, I can highly recommend a book titled “Dreaming the Future” by one of my favorite authors, Clifford Pickover. He lists hundreds of divination techniques I had never even heard of before. In the 2016 election cycle, most astrologers predicted a Clinton win. A few astrologers challenged this with their own methods for predicting a
Trump win. And of course, an astrologer can be biased when interpreting their findings as well. This is a real downfall because ultimately every astrologer just wants to be accurate and their reputation could be riding on their hits and misses. Over the decades I have read about many global predictions or have seen personal charts for famous people (and politicians) drawn up by others. I have seen both situations play out in the readings: where the reading reflects, and in detail, what the general population believes is the truth, as well as a reading which reveals contradictory things not known to the general public. What I have not seen a lot of astrology reports are the reasons why. I assume that a real cover-up may only get revealed when it is reviewed
from multiple angles and access to the birth data of those critically involved. As a comparison in Feng Shui, I might be able to see from the house or office energy that a client is fighting with their employer, but not know the reason why, or understand who is the underdog and who is the instigator unless I also reviewed the employer’s Feng Shui. I believe a highly skilled astrologer may understand what is below the surface and why the deception was not discovered, as is the case with hoaxes and false flags. Those kinds of findings may not get validated for decades until there is a reason or more evidence to question the official story. Business in Transit – How to Move with Ease By Katarina Nilsson
Stagnation is the enemy of business. And of life. To make a move, or quite literally – to move, is one of the most refreshing things you can do to create new adventures. Even if it sometimes means going out of your comfort zone, letting go is often a bliss. Creation demands inspiration. Although some people can find it anywhere – in the shower,
Omtimes.com
a park, behind a desk, in a garbage can – it’s no secret that it’s harder to create in a dull and lifeless environment. No one likes being stuck, no matter if it’s with someone you shouldn’t be with or in a place where you don’t belong. Sometimes you simply need to move physically to be able to move in spirit. Many, however, find the move itself to be quite a heavy task (even when you don’t have to carry the boxes yourself). And yes, things don’t always turn out the way you imagined. I have certainly experienced that recently. Not only have I moved out from one office space and into another – a minor effort that’s already paying off – but I’ve also bought a new apartment. The thing is, my old one didn’t sell, so suddenly I have two! In situations like these, one could choose to panic. But there’s also the choice of possibility. I’ve now decided to rent out my old home and have a few other interesting ideas on the boil as well. The lesson is that no matter how carefully we plan things, it never happens the way we think it will. But when we are willing to
let go of linear thinking – “if I decide A, it will lead to B, and then the result will be C” – even greater opportunities can reveal themselves. Here are my best tips to “make a move” with more ease and how to feel great doing it: Ask from a Space of Possibilities So you’re in a boring office doing the same old thing right now? Only, the world outside seems scary and an even worse option? Instead of focusing on the negatives, start asking questions from a space of possibilities. Questions like: If I stay here, what will it do for me? If I take a chance and move somewhere else, what can come my way instead? Doing business without a little risk-taking is zero fun and to go through life always playing it safe isn’t really that great either. Never postpone the decision because moving seems like a big thing. Talk to Your Business When in doubt, talk to your business and see what it demands of you. Sounds silly, right? Well, so does putting a man on the moon. To reach Omtimes.com
progress, you must allow different points of view and forget about what other people tell you is right. If you get the awareness that moving premises will expand your future, go ahead and do it! By asking your business what it demands of you and yourself how you can achieve that, you’ve already got one foot out the door (which in this case is a good thing). Trust Your Gut A room with a view is great, but there’s more to it than that. When you rent an office space or buy a new home, your gut is your most precious asset. Are great communications, nice parks and lots of surrounding cafés and restaurants what your business needs to grow and what your creativity needs to boom? Or is it, in fact, something completely different that will set the wheels in motion? Take your time and don’t just go for the obvious choice. Remember that once you’ve moved you’re going to be there a while … Call a Friend Once you’ve decided to go through with it, the real fun begins. Now ask yourself who you can add to help you and Omtimes.com
make things easier for you. Do you require help packing all your stuff? Who could help organize your home or office space and set up shelves at the right places? Do you require a decorator to suggest colors or painters get that done with ease with a stunning result? Imagine stepping into your brand-new office space or apartment that’s just oozing with great energy. Who and what do you need to make that vision come true? What Provokes Us to Be Mean to Nice People? By Marcia Sirota, MD.
There’s another side to the story of kind versus nice, and that’s the story of those who are hurtful or disrespectful to the nice person. Who are these people and what’s driving their behavior?
Omtimes.com
We know what makes someone kind: it’s an outpouring of positive self-regard onto others. What makes someone nice is a need for external validation that’s meant to build their self-esteem. But, what makes someone take advantage of the person who’s being nice? What makes an individual see the nice person as someone they can push around, take advantage of, even bully? In every one of us, there’s an inner struggle, between the light and the shadow sides of our personality. Most often, the light part wins the battle; sometimes the dark part wins. Every human being has occasional dark thoughts, feelings, and urges. Most of us can contain these, most of the time. Now and then, our dark side is provoked a bit more strongly, and we end up being not so nice. What provokes the shadow side of our personality to come out? When we’re overtired, overly stressed or really angry,
it’s much harder to contain our impulses, and something nasty can leak out: a hurtful comment, a selfish choice, a thoughtless act. Often, we want to do the right thing, but other people can provoke us to behave badly, especially when they make us uncomfortable or vulnerable, or when they make it just too easy for us to do the wrong thing. Nice people can easily tempt us to take advantage of them or be contemptuous of them. Their desperation for approval, their eagerness to please, their over-attentiveness to our needs can make us extremely uncomfortable, or extremely greedy. We see in the nice person an exaggerated version of our own needy, desperate self; the nice person is behaving in a way that if it were us, we’d be mortified for anyone to see. They’re openly pleasing, openly seeking approval, and we squirm in our boots on their behalf. Some of us get so uncomfortable at the nice
Omtimes.com
person’s desperate attempts at being validated that we become angry at them. We can’t tolerate our own, barelyacknowledged neediness and it’s too threatening to see these nice people openly exhibiting theirs. Some of us get so angry at the nice people among us that we’ll punish them for reminding us of the places within us that are weak, needy and dependent on other people’s approval. We’ll be rude, hurtful, exploitative to teach them a lesson about trying too hard to please. Some of us are opportunists who, at the moment, aren’t considering how our actions affect others. If someone is so foolish as to be a peoplepleaser, we’ll gladly allow them to give us what we want. Our disdain for these nice people makes us callous, so we don’t think about the impact of our rudeness or exploitation on their feelings or their lives. The other side of being nice is
Omtimes.com
the fact that some of us will take advantage of the nice person, and some of us will be mean to them. Whether we’re cruel out of our discomfort or just ready to take advantage of their need to please, the nice person will always have to deal with people who mistreat them. Interestingly, most of us will flipflop, at various times in our lives, between being too nice and being an opportunist. Sometimes we’re trying to win approval from someone, and sometimes we’re looking down on a person who’s being nice to us. If we’re honest with ourselves, we can recognize that sometimes we’re in the nice role, and sometimes we’re on the other side of the equation, being an opportunist. That’s what’s interesting about human nature. We often play different roles. That’s why we can have such a strong reaction to the overly nice person. At any time, to our great humiliation, we might be acting just like them.

When Good Advice becomes Solace
In our modern, bustling life, it is often important to pause and think about the role that mentors can play as a way of understanding what to do next. Often, we think of such people as being of a professional class such as a psychologist or a business superior, when in fact they do not have to be so. A Omtimes.com
mentor can be someone who has a deep understanding of the inner life and is willing to share his or her knowledge. In a new book by the author James Cowan, the idea of the mentor is explored between Jalalludin Rumi and his friend Shams of Tabriz in the thirteenth century. These men met in Konya, Turkey, and formed a deep bond. Each became to the other his mentor. Their mentorship, however, was not simply that of good advice about what to do in unusual or trying circumstances. Rather, their friendship was founded upon an understanding of their individual needs, and how they might enact a more balanced attitude towards the relationship between their inner and outer lives. Rumi was a scholar and a poet. Shams, on the other hand, was an itinerant philosopher, a gadfly who called no place his home. Together they would perform a sobhet, or meditation, which sometimes lasted many months. While remaining isolated in a room, they were able to plumb the depths of their spirituality,
their hal, and so release it into the world. As mentors, they completed one another. Their spiritual lives were enhanced by the stark contrast in their personalities. The scholar and the vagabond, the poet, and the wild man – somehow they found a way to smooth the rough edges of their respective characters. Warriors of Love traces this transformation. The author takes us on a remarkable journey into the realm of Sufism and the mystical nature of Islam during the thirteenth century. His thoughtful introduction explores how mentorship can help people to overcome the doubts and uncertainties they might feel about themselves. Fifty poems by Rumi are included in the book. These explore Rumi’s sense of loss when Shams, his beloved mentor, chose to leave him because of jealousies in the Konya household fomented by his disciples. Rumi makes us aware of how much Shams meant to him, both as a friend and spiritual guide. In his great lyrical poems, he proceeds to plead for Omtimes.com
Shams to return to Konya. But this ‘return’ is not so much physical anymore. Rumi is already aware that Shams’ absence heralds the need for a far deeper commitment to life as a spiritual person. He is being asked by his ‘loss,’ so to speak, to become more wedded to the interior life than he might have been in the past. In a sense, Shams had become a thorn, a goad, urging Rumi to transcend himself. To possess a mentor is thus to reach out for help. Not help as a crutch so much as that of the power to be inspired. Living our normal day to day lives often makes us vulnerable to the ordinary and the prosaic, so that inspiration begins to wither in the soul. Rumi knew this, even as he accepted that his friend might never return to Konya, as much as he might have wished. In the end, he made Shams absence into a mentor of a far higher order. Warriors of Love is truly an inspirational book. It ranges over so much that is nourishment for the body and the mind. The author has ventured Omtimes.com
to places that few of us ever go. He wants us to experience friendship as a companion in the business of living out our everyday lives. Rumi’s poetry is redolent with longing, with love, and more importantly, with the healing power of knowing another person deeply, and without reserve. The challenge that Rumi and Shams set the reader is that mentorship is not confined to gender. Women, too, must embrace the concept, and make it part of their lives. They have to reach out to a mentor, whoever that person might be and begin the process of living a richer, more inspired and fulfilled existence. This is the true story of mentorship for people today. James Cowan is the author of more than 35 books, including A Mapmaker’s Dream and Desert Father. He has traveled widely among Aborigines in Australia, and in the company of Copts along the Nile. On Mount Athos or in Borneo, he has spent his life seeking out mentors. Recipient of the ALS Gold Medal for literature, Cowan manages to spend a good deal of his life on the road.

You Can Develop Your Intuitive Gifts With The Help Of The Angels
Abstract: To fully embrace our spiritual impulses, we must first acknowledge them, explore their meaning, discover connections with the angelic and higher realms, and then develop the skills and daily practice that allows us to evolve and become Omtimes.com
enlightened. This process begins by tuning into our ‘intuition’ and connecting with the brilliant white light energy of Archangel Gabriel – the great ‘Annunciator’ angel of communication and new beginnings. Spiritual development is a journey of many steps. To fully embrace our spiritual impulses, we must first learn to understand them, explore their meaning, put aside worries and deal with blockages. Then we can develop the skills and daily practice that allows us to evolve and become enlightened. Deepening our connections with the angelic and higher realms enable this process. The voyage can take many years. Some would say a thousand lifetimes. But, as with all journeys, it begins with the first few steps. Almost by definition, an exploration of anything spiritual involves a connection with something greater than ourselves. Often this occurs when we start connecting and
communicating, with higher realms beyond the ordinary world. Communicating with God (in whatever form He or She takes for you), and with angels, Archangels, and other energies of a higher vibration, is a holistic process - spiritual, emotional, and physical. But there is a simple starting point – your intuition. Intuition is that deep, inner sense of ‘knowing’ that we may trust but find difficult to explain. It can be a simple physical reaction, the ‘gut feeling’ that something is right or wrong. Or at a higher level, it is the mind’s ‘nagging doubt’ or ‘unwavering conviction’ that leads us away from negative situations towards positive and successful outcomes. And when you connect fully with the angels, you come to understand that this intuitive gift comes from Angelic Light, the purest, brilliant energy that lights your way and warms your soul. Many people have a strong intuitive sense that they may call clairvoyance (“seeing”),
Omtimes.com
clairsentience (“feeling a presence”), clairaudient (“hearing”) or empathic (“sensing” emotion). When you align with the powerful universal forces of the Divine and the loving energies of the angelic realms, such psychic qualities will develop naturally. We gain an increasing awareness of other people’s energies around us – both positive and negative. And we begin to rejoice in the beauty of the physical, natural world and the wider, more ethereal Universe. As our Angelic connections intensify, so does our intuition. Becoming conscious of our intuition is a vital first step in our spiritual development. Listening, looking or learning to feel for the signs. Take note of your feelings and thoughts. Is there a message? Can you connect your intuition to real-world situations or experiences? It is common among sensitive people, for example, to feel
Omtimes.com
pain then realize you are sensing someone else’s suffering in your own body, empathically yet involuntarily. Or you’ll be thinking of someone just before they send you a message or “know” who is about to call on the phone even before it rings. You may become more sensitive to what is going on around you, and become more skillful at discerning positive opportunities or potential dangers. When such situations occur, take a moment to stop and ask for guidance. Archangel Gabriel is perfect for offering inspiration. A powerful angelic being is known as the great “Annunciator,” Gabriel lights the way as the Divine Messenger, the angel of death and rebirth, and instigator of new projects and beginnings. Ask for a clear sign, one that is unique to you, and keep a journal of where and when the answers come to you. You’ll soon begin to notice your intuitive signs and messages you receive – perhaps your first
true connection to the angels! Gabriel guides each soul from conception to birth, showering us with blessings of love and offers to guide us towards our true soul purpose. This wisdom is within us all, but only with Gabriel’s Divine guidance are we are able to unlock it and put it into action. Guardian of the Moon, Gabriel lights the way forward in darkness and whispers messages of hope, encouragement and creative wisdom in our ears. When you connect with Gabriel, you’ll discover a Light that is pure crystal white, bringing brightness and great joy. Working with the angels may feel a little daunting at first, but just as we all breathe the same air, are made from the same minerals, elements and water, and tread the same earth, so the angel energies are available to us all. The ways they interact with you are absolutely unique to you, as is your connection to the Divine.
Developing your intuitive gifts will also awaken other, deeper spiritual skills. You’ll begin to connect more deeply during meditation and reflection. Your selfesteem will improve, and you’ll find yourself able to forgive more fully, heal faster and express your faith more clearly. Wonderful gifts on your spiritual journey, and all of those first simple steps. Chrissie Astell is an awardwinning, best-selling author of angelic books, angel cards, courses and guided visualizations. Following a life-changing angelic experience, she has dedicated more than 20 years of her life helping others to connect with the Angelic Realms through her teaching programs, workshops, and retreats. The Educational Innovator By Marguerite dar Boggia
Educator, medical doctor, researcher, author, lecturer, innovator, humanist, Maria Montessori’s contribution to the education of children is profound and timely. She was born on 8/31/1870 in Chiaravalle, Italy.
Omtimes.com
Her father was an accountant in the civil service, and her Mother was the great-niece of a famous geologist. Family relations were loving. The family moved to Rome when she was five years old. She entered secondary school with the desire to become an ENGINEER, but upon graduation, she was intent on studying medicine. What better way to render service to others than by being a loving doctor. At that time in Italy, it was unheard of for a woman to study medicine. Her father tried to dissuade her. She should become a teacher, which was more acceptable. When the Professor of clinical medicine at the University of Rome tried to discourage her, she replied: “I know I shall become a doctor. She was self-willed and determined. Fortunately, Pope Leo XIII interceded for her to study medicine. She then entered the University of Rome at the age of 20.
She did extremely well in all her subjects. Two years later she qualified to enter medical school with the Pope’s help. In her last two years, she studied pediatrics and psychiatry, and worked in the pediatric consulting room, becoming an expert in pediatric medicine. On July 10, 1896, at the age of 26, she graduated from the University of Rome as a doctor of medicine. She was the first woman to become a doctor in Italy. With that distinction, she became known throughout the country. She was immediately employed in the San Giovanni Hospital attached to the University. Being famous, she was asked to lecture, which she did all around the world. She lectured on societal responsibility for juvenile delinquency and for special classes for the mentally disabled children. She presented a vision of social progress and political economy rooted in educational measures. She was asked
Omtimes.com
to represent Italy at the International Congress for Women’s Rights in Berlin. In her speech to the Congress, she developed a thesis for social reform, arguing that women should be entitled to equal wages with men. A reporter covering the event asked her how her patients responded to a female doctor. She replied, “… They know intuitively when someone really cares about them. It is only the upper classes that have a prejudice against women leading a useful existence.” She believed research was important. A year later she volunteered to join a research program at the psychiatric clinic of the University of Rome. As part of her work at the clinic, she would visit Rome’s asylums for the insane, seeking patients for treatment at the clinic. Her involvement with the National League for the Education of Retarded Children
Omtimes.com
led to her appointment as codirector, of a new institution called the Orthophrenic School. The school took children with a broad spectrum of disorders and proved to be a turning point in her life, marking a shift in her professional identity from physician to educator. It was here that she worked alongside Giuseppe Montesano, a fellow doctor who was co-director with her of the Orthophrenic School of Rome. A romance developed, and she became pregnant. (Oh dear!) The son, named ‘Mario,’ was born on 3/31/1898. She had a decision to make. If she married, she would be expected to cease working professionally; Instead of getting married, she decided to continue her work and studies. She wanted to keep the relationship with her child’s father secret, under the condition that neither of them would marry anyone else. When the father of her child fell in love and subsequently married, she was dismayed and
betrayed. She decided to place her son into foster care with a family living in the countryside. She would later be reunited with her son when he was 14, where he proved to be a great assistant in her research. In 1900 she was appointed co-director of an orthopedic school for training teachers in educating mentally disabled children with an attached laboratory classroom. The school was an immediate success. Some of these children later passed public examinations given to socalled “normal” children. Her method allowed children to develop at their own pace and provided educators with a better understanding of child development. The term “cosmic education” was introduced to describe an approach for children aged from six to twelve years that emphasized the interdependence of all the elements of the natural world. Children worked directly with plants and animals in their natural environments.
In 1904 she took up a post as a lecturer at the Pedagogic School of the University of Rome, which she held until 1908. In one lecture she told her students: “The subject of our study is humanity; our purpose is to become teachers. Now, what really makes a teacher is love for the human child; for it is love that transforms the social duty of the educator into the higher consciousness of mission”. During this time she began to consider adapting her methods of educating mentally disabled children to mainstream education. She expanded the range of practical activities such as sweeping and personal care to include a wide variety of exercises for the care of the environment and the self, including, hand washing, gymnastics, care of pets, and cooking. Courtesy, system and order and respect for the child were emphasized. She also included large open-air sections in the classroom encouraging children to come and go as
Omtimes.com
they please in the room’s different areas and lessons. She was asked to lecture on her methods in many countries, including India. In the United States in the 1920’s her book on the Montessori Method was a second best seller. Although her educational approach was highly popular in the United States, she was not without opposition and controversy. A follower of reformer John Dewey wrote a dismissive and critical book, which had a broad impact in 1925. From then on for forty years, her method of teaching was not popular, until after she died in 1952 at the age of 81. She held peace conferences from 1932 to 1939 in Geneva, Brussels, Copenhagen, and Utrecht. Her lectures were later published in Italian as Educazione e Pace, and in English as Education and Peace. In 1949, and again in 1950 and in 1951, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, receiving a total of six nominations.

Overcoming Self-Doubt and Perfectionism Carl Greer, PhD, PsyD
Striving for excellence can lead to very satisfying achievements, but when is enough enough? Do you really need more money, more praise, more attention, or a greater sense of control? When does perfectionism start to diminish your joy and distract you from the reason you chose a
Omtimes.com
goal in the first place? Would being less driven give your soul greater pleasure than constantly pushing yourself to do more, be more, and produce more? And do you feel bad about yourself when you are unproductive or when the results of your efforts are dissatisfying? Overcoming selfdoubt and perfectionism is easier when you pay attention to the wisdom of nature. Nature can help you learn to be more accepting of what you have accomplished so far and where you are in your progress right now. JUDGMENT Judgment’s gaze withers, divides, rigidifies contracts life Acceptance allows expansion and growth Ice melting returns home to the lake’s depth In nature, nothing stays the same except the essence of a thing. Take water: Ice melts and the water becomes liquid again only to evaporate into water vapor and clouds. These transformations require time as water slowly moves
from lake to sky and cloud to soil in the form of rain. If you are feeling unproductive, perhaps you are focused too much on the stillness of the lake or the ice and snow that covers it. You may have forgotten that the water does move, and will, when it’s time. Seeds will lay dormant until the conditions for growth are right. If you aren’t achieving what you like, maybe you need to be dormant for a while—to rest and to sleep so you can dream of what else you might try to achieve. Maybe you need to change your goals and your course. If the waters are flowing and you are able to accomplish what you set out to do, yet you feel anxious and yearn for more, maybe you need to slow down and experience the serenity of acceptance. Acceptance allows change and growth to happen. Notice what you have already produced. Generate a sense of satisfaction and gratitude. Acknowledge the work you have done to reach this point. Then the stress of perfectionism can give way to enthusiasm for building on your momentum. Omtimes.com
Taking the time to let go of negative judgments about yourself and what you haven’t accomplished and instead appreciate what you have achieved already might lead you to insights providing new direction. Maybe you have given short shrift to an achievement you can build on. Maybe you have accomplished something in an area of your life that you don’t give much thought to—relationships, spirituality, or something else perhaps. Is it possible that you are ready for a positive change and new goals? Could you be dissatisfied because you are primed to set off on a new course and you just haven’t realized it yet? Self-doubt, judgment, and perfectionism can feel very constricting, but perhaps the tension they cause you is a sign that you need to shift your focus so that your efforts lead to more satisfying results. Stop striving, start living in the moment, and observe how you feel when you look at what your life is today. At any time, you can reframe what has happened in your life so far and begin writing a new story.
Omtimes.com
When you know only one way of being, it’s hard to be open to the unknown of possibilities not yet explored. You might want to change your story but on some level you are holding yourself back. If you believe that another way of life is possible, release your self-judgments and allow yourself to take pleasure in stillness as you observe all that you might build on and all the resources you have. Is your self-doubt, judgment, and perfectionism telling you to stop and take stock before pushing yourself further? What can you do today to let yourself revel in your accomplishments and appreciate all you have brought into being? What can you do to simply take pleasure in what is instead of being driven to achieve more? Carl Greer, PhD, PsyD, is a practicing clinical psychologist, Jungian analyst and shamanic practitioner. Wisdom From a Bonsai Tree By Guy Finley
A long time ago, nearly 50 years now, I was walking through an open market in a small, upscale beach town. Colorful booths of various sizes were displaying the

works of local artisans. The late summer afternoon was warm and beautiful, refreshed by a cooling sea breeze that washed away any gathering heat. I was content just to be there, taking in all the sights and sounds. Besides, nothing is more pleasurable to an inveterate treasure hunter than the hope he might just stumble upon something no one else has seen or wants.
And, stranger still, each little tree was planted in a small, ancient-looking pot that appeared way too shallow to support it, let alone allow the tree to thrive. I was spellbound, literally; the next thing I knew – like a moth to the proverbial flame – I was drawn into the center of their display.
And then it happened. In my mind’s eye, I can still see the thirty odd, old, small wooden benches. They were of differing heights all laid out – in three parallel lines – with space allowed to walk between them. Upon them sat dozens upon dozens of diminutive trees.
As I stood over the first bench before me, my eyes became fixed on some kind of pine tree that stood less than twenty inches tall, but that had the appearance of being over a hundred years old! Its weathered, ancient trunk – turned almost back in upon itself – radiated a silent story; it told of a solitary life alone upon some steep sea cliff where – buffeted by unrelenting winds – its character had been shaped by the hardships it was given to bear. And with this one
Of course, I had heard of Bonsai Trees before but had never actually seen a living specimen. Each tree was a miniature version of a towering pine, elm, or oak.
And then, something even more inexplicable took place.

impression came – rolling over me, like a wave from some unknown sea within my heart – an overwhelming emotion and I started to cry. I knew full well that I was in a public place, Yet, I was powerless to contain my feelings; so powerful was the impression received from this one tree – not to mention the feeling of being surrounded by a miniature forest of other perfect specimens – the beauty of it all outweighed any concern of being seen as a fool, or a madman. The rest of that afternoon was spent in a private audience before each of these ancient trees…eager to hear their individual story. There was no way to explain it back then…but now I understand at least some of the real reasons behind this uncanny attraction, including the
Omtimes.com
strong emotional reaction that came on its heels. Everything points to the existence of a timeless interior Presence that doesn’t just precede the relationships we are drawn to in our lives, but that actually serves to “arrange” them, including whatever life lessons we take from these encounters. Within each of us lives a tireless, latent longing to touch – and to be touched by – the invisible celestial forces of Life. For instance, whenever we stand as a silent witness to the endless expanse of a dark night sky, we are inwardly moved by this outer display of timelessness spread out above us. We can’t help being drawn to look at a newborn child because the innocence we see within its eyes stirs the depths
of our own heart, reminding us of a vital, but now largely forgotten virtue. Again, drinking in these exterior impressions awakens, moves, and reminds us of something still latent within us. Which brings us to this very important point. Each and every one of these precious impressions – taken in from around us, regardless of its nature – do more than just touch us: they reveal us to ourselves; they actually serve to “tell us” something about our inner-most self that can’t be heard or felt in any other way. In other words, anything – that is reflected upon the mirror of one’s soul – be it a majestic mountain, a single red rose, or a smile on the face of someone we love – creates a kind of instant and corresponding recognition within us. And through this higher self-
awareness our new eyes see the truth that sets us free: The supposed “other” person, that stirring moment, whatever experiences we are drawn to reflect within us... are not really “other” at all. Everything we can realize in this life, or in any kingdom come, is already an indwelling part of our consciousness...and always has been! This understanding and the unshakable self-knowledge it provides is the secret wellspring of all spiritual mystics, saints, and sages; it is their undying source of wisdom, compassion, and strength, regardless of whatever religious tradition they may have come to represent in passing the time. Facing the Dark of Heartlessness The Golden Rule, the Rule of Gold, and the ONE REPUBLICAN I Would Vote for in a Minute By Steve Bhaerman
“The USA has become a banana republic ‘thanks’ to the Banana Republicans and their Democrat enablers.” – Swami Beyondananda When I reflect on the recent and ongoing health care debacle, where Republicans are seeking Omtimes.com
to replace the barely-caring Obamacare with their own even more ruthless and heartless version, We-Don’t-Care, I am reminded of a cartoon from my childhood. The cartoon shows a mother handing her two boys boxing gloves, saying, “Now, don’t fight.”
the predators and exploiters have retaken the field. There are many reasons why this has happened, but I will cite three separate incidents. The first happened in 1886 ... the second in 1913 ... and the third in 1976.
The point is, no matter what is said, you can predict the outcome of the game by the rules and tools offered. This applies as much to governing our republic as it does to managing our children. The right rules and the right tools, we thrive. Otherwise?
Corporate Personhood = Corporate Poisonhood For the first hundred years of our country’s existence, the power of corporations was kept in check. Corporate charters were granted for a limited time and could be revoked for violating laws. They were prohibited from owning other corporations and from financial involvement in the electoral process.
Well, that brings us to our current shituation.
http://reclaimdemocracy.org/ corporate-accountabilityhistory-corporations-us/
To understand current events, we have to go back a couple of hundred years, when a small band of American Revolutionaries successfully fended off the world’s first multinational corporation (the British East India Company) and its military arm, the Queen’s navy and the redcoat army. Unfortunately, since that time
All this changed in 1886 when a former railroad company president working as a court reporter for the U.S. Supreme Court wrote a “headnote” declaring that corporations had the same 14th Amendment rights as a legal “person”. https://tinyurl.com/yd2nz5ld And though the actual court decision said nothing of the kind, “corporate personhood” became Omtimes.com
legal precedent, and has been affirmed in subsequent cases, most recently the Orwelliannamed “Citizens United.” Is the Fed Merely a Tool to Feed the Underfed to the Overfed? Strike two against the economic autonomy of we the people came in 1913 when the Federal Reserve Act (and subsequently the Income Tax Amendment) was passed during a Christmas recess and signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson. While the stated intent of the Federal Reserve Act was economic stability, it is curious indeed that the worst economic depression in our history happened just sixteen years after this legislation was passed. While the Fed was created through an Act of Congress to operate in the public interest, it is also a private entity owned by the banking industry. http://www.frbsf.org/education/ publications/doctor-econ/2003/ september/private-publiccorporation/ And while the Constitution gives the Federal government authority to issue currency, the Federal Reserve now issues the Omtimes.com
vast majority of our currency (https://www.federalreserve. gov/faqs/currency_12773. htm) -- $1.52 trillion out of the $1.56 trillion in circulation are Federal Reserve Notes. So what? When we consider that the Federal Reserve notes are issued as DEBT, this creates a permanently indebted economy. Imagine if the currency were simply issued through the Federal Government as grants to build infrastructure, and did not need to be repaid. In contrast, we have a permanent and “metastatic” indebtedness that has become a key factor in economic exploitation ... in addition to sustaining an enterprise, a business somehow has to find “extra” money to repay the debt and the interest. How Economics Empowered and Enabled Sociopathogens The final blow to the rule of the people, and the Golden Rule, came when Milton Friedman received the Nobel Prize in economics in 1976, and his famous statement became the unquestioned credo for postindustrial capitalism: “There is one and only one social responsibility of business – to use its resources and engage in
activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition without deception or fraud.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Friedman_doctrine The problem is that the credo has been interpreted to make profits at any cost the ONLY mission for corporations, as the last part of the quote -- the qualifier -- is barely remembered. Consequently, corporations are given carte blanche to exploit without consequence. Why else would the predatory criminal enterprise Enron be cited as one of Fortune 500’s top five companies as it was being prosecuted for fraud? http://nypost.com/2002/04/01/ no-joke-embattled-enron-isfifth-on-fortune-500-list/ And so it has come about that the Republican Party -- with or without Donald Trump -has become the champion of “profit, profit über alles,” and the Democrats this credo’s alsoran hand-maiden. While at one time the Democrats were seen as a force that could and
would mitigate the excesses of corporate capitalism, they too -- thanks to that boost from Citizens United -- must serve the same corporate masters if they wish to be re-elected (or even chosen to run in the first place). A Republican Who Has My Vote That brings us to the ONE REPUBLICAN I would not only vote for, I would campaign for. OK, one qualifier. He’s been dead for 113 years. But his name should be a “dead” giveaway -- Samuel “Golden Rule” Jones. Born in poverty in Wales, Jones and his family migrated to upstate New York when he was a child. He became a successful inventor and industrialist in Toledo, Ohio and earned the name “Golden Rule Jones” because the Golden Rule was the only posted credo at his workplace, and he put that principle to work: “Whereas the prevailing wage in the depressed local economy stood at $1.00 to $1.50 a day, Jones paid his employees a living wage of $1.50 to $2.00 a day. Jones implemented the 8-hour day for his workers and offered them paid vacation, revenueOmtimes.com
sharing, and subsidized meals in a company cafeteria.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Samuel_M._Jones In 1897, he ran as a Republican for Mayor of Toledo, and because of his reputation for fairness and support for workers’ wellbeing, he won. As Mayor, he: • opened free kindergartens • developed a park system • established playgrounds for children • established free public baths • instituted an eight-hour day for city workers • took away truncheons from the police • refused to enforce blue laws • reformed the city government Thanks to these policies, when he ran for a second term, the Republican establishment refused to support him, so he ran as an independent under the slogan “Principle Before Party” and won a second term with 70 percent of the vote. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Omtimes.com
Samuel_M._Jones Only We the People Can Put Us Back on the “Golden Standard” And that brings us to the elephant -- and the donkey -in the living room. Our entire system including both political parties has come to serve the rule of gold in the absence of the Golden Rule. There is a moral vacuum at the center of our secular society and Donald Trump happens to be a more congruent “head” for this body than those like Obama, who speak the right words but still must operate as CEO of the American empire. Consequently the “dark of heartlessness” has been in power, and the millions and millions and millions of decent caring folks -- including many “one-percenters” who see that they would ultimately benefit from a more caring society (and realize that if the natural world dies, well, there goes the GDP) -- recognize that this heartless system cannot self-correct. Fortunately, we have been given an operating system for success,
as individuals and as a species. In Spontaneous Evolution, Bruce Lipton and I cite the Golden Rule (http://www. religioustolerance.org/reciproc2. htm) as the “One Suggestion” more powerful and universal than the Ten Commandments. Science corroborates this ancient wisdom principle, indicating that all things are related, and that “thrival of the fittingest” more aptly describes evolution than survival of the fittest. We look the dark of heartlessness in the face when we recognize that together -- and with the help of technology that makes self-organized communities possible as never before -- we can establish a “newer world order” that celebrates and fosters thrival for all. We self-organize by gathering together a movement of movements to put politics, economics and all our collective transactions on the “Golden Standard” -- truly treating others the way we want to be treated. We convene public conversations everywhere as to how we can do this, and we use the wisdom tools developed by
people like Tom Atlee and Jim Rough to aggregate the wisdom we gather. Instead of the angry and frustrated conversations, we have currently, we have conversations for co-creation where the American people can participate and contribute to actually solving problems rather than blaming the other side. Once a critical mass of the heretofore-uncritical masses gets the creative power we already possess, we will attain “heartland security” -- which will make homeland security unnecessary. It’s time to rise above the cultural and ideological beliefs in our head and unify around the universal truth in our hearts. Our survival as a nation and perhaps as a species depends on it. Time for a new game on a new playing field. If you’d like to help support this new “independence” movement to liberate ourselves from the two-party tyranny and launch, empower and proliferate “Conversations for Co-Creation” please consider being a founding sponsor, member or supporter of Wiki Politiki. A New Way to Governing Ourselves and Our World by Crystal Presence
Abstract: Addressing the desire to experience a new kind of governing that supports all living beings. Bringing understanding to the truth that we already have everything we need to turn things around. Sharing steps for taking full responsibility Omtimes.com
for bringing a new kind of governing into manifestation. In turbulent times, we find ourselves wondering if human beings will allow the Earth to be a place where all living things can live in harmony. We long for a collective experience of governing where war and destruction are no longer a way to create resolution. We ask ourselves how we can participate as part of the resolution while releasing ourselves from being part of the problem. The first step in making this change is the willingness to see things from a different perspective. It means changing beliefs about the essential nature of human beings and asking ourselves what it will take to truly humanize the world. It means understanding that we already have everything we need to turn things around and we can… 1. Embrace the turbulence inside of ourselves, taking full responsibility for our manifestation from our inside out. Asking
ourselves if we are part of perpetuating a government that is not of, by and for the people. 2. Be leaders of change by changing the way we lead ourselves. Begin by having a meeting with ourselves. Set our four sitting pillows. One for ourselves as the spirit that is making the decisions for ourselves. The other three pillows act as our emotions, body, and heart. Start a conversation with each of them. Ask them how they feel about their lives and how we are governing them. Listen to what they have to say. For example, a response from our emotions might be, “I’m tired of being repressed and pushed aside, then blamed for the oppression, suffering, and powerlessness you feel. I am your inner guidance system and repressing me disempowers all aspects of us”. Our bodies might say, “You override and push me to exhaustion, I hate you!” Respond and continue until you come to resolution. Come to a place of governing ourselves Omtimes.com
in peace, freedom and building confidence in ourselves and others. 3. Draw upon the wisdom of indigenous people, such as the Six Nations of the Iroquois people who comprise the oldest living participatory republic on earth. Their story is all about a governance that is based on the consent of the governed and aligning with the wisdom of nature. Most people are not aware that the original United States representative democracy, fashioned by authors as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, drew inspiration from these intelligent people. 4. Allow the power of nature to guide us. With inspiration from the visionary Matt Powers, author and teacher, we clearly see the world through nature’s eyes. In his groundbreaking books and curriculums, we can learn how to cultivate a deeper understanding of returning to a world of sustainability and regeneration.

5. Cultivate awareness that we are all connected to the same source and that the resolutions are within each of us. Innovators such as Barbara Marx Hubbard, founder of The Conscious Evolution Institute, reminds us that we can reimagine who we are as humans and change our future. 6. Renew ourselves with knowing that yesterday is not the same as today. Allow our moment to moment choices to be part of the evolutionary expansion of what is possible. 7. Embrace technology as part of a collective nervous system that is saying yes to change. Communicate with cultures around the world. 8. Meditate. Create a silent space for ideas and inspiration to arise from the greater intelligence within each of us. 9. Create a movement by to keeping our energy in movement. Allow our bodies to move as we open
the space inside for new possibilities. Let go of trying to control and manipulate to have the changes we want. 10. Attune to the evolutionary impulses that are awakening and alive within each of us. Change our perspective of conditions such as racism and terrorism. 11. Acknowledge that we are equal and distinct individuals with a part to play in the whole. Support each person in their unique part of the resolution. 12. Intend, envision and pray for all living being as the celebration of the dignity of our needs as living beings. 13. Respect the nature of breakdown and breakthrough. As cultural media blows up the possibility of existential breakdown, we can stand in knowing that we are connected to a loving source that embraces us in the process of breakthrough. 14. Notice if we are using people to get a “disgust
fix”. We must ask ourselves if we habitually use politics, economics and other people to stay in the bodily felt sense of self-importance, hate and disgust. Do we use those to cover up our own feelings of self-rejection, anger and powerlessness to make the changes we want? 15. Ask empowering questions, “What is the nature of experiencing myself as a catalyst for the beneficial changes I want to see in the world?” Crystal is a certified expansion guide, facilitator, coach and author. She has been active in the healing and transformational arts for the past 49 years. Her inspiration created the 5-day integral event called “Freedom at the Core”.
