JERRY O'CONNELL

The Secret

Dare to Dream

OMTIMES

A

Jerry O'Connell is an American actor, director and talk show host, known for his roles as Quinn Mallory in the television series Sliders, Andrew Clements in My Secret Identity, Vern Tessio in the film Stand by Me, Joe in Joe's Apartment, Frank Cushman in Jerry Maguire , Derek in Scream 2 , Charlie Carbone in Kangaroo Jack, and Detective Woody Hoyt on the drama Crossing Jordan.

Jerry O'Connell, one of the headliners of the SECRET: DARE TO DREAM movie, sat with OMTimes to discuss Law of Attraction, Life and Positivity.

The Secret: Dare to Dream is a daring project inspired by The groundbreaking 2006 book by Rhonda Byrne has become a global phenomenon empowering millions to lead happier and more fulfilled lives, selling over 34 million copies worldwide, translated into 50 languages and appearing on the New York Times best-seller list for 190 weeks. OMTIMES

|AUGUST A

OMTimes: The Law of Attraction is the philosophical perspective that says that there is a possibility of bad stuff happening in our lives that can lead to better things. My question for you would be, do you share the same perception of life as the metaphysical Law of Attraction? Jerry O'Connell: Bad stuff happens but big but) there are different degrees of bad. Everyone comes across 'bad' at some point. It is how you absorb the bad, mentally, or physically, that guides ma a person. What happens to us is just one percent; how we react to it is ninety-nine percent. Have I bombed at an audition? Yes. Just yesterday. Have I given bad advice to my kids? Always. Have I been rude to others? Unfortunately, yes (Sorry to my wife). But have I learned from those "mistakes?" Absolutely. I think the bad stuff happens to help make you a better person – but you must be willing to suck it up, acknowledge it, and learn from it.

OMTimes: The main message of the “The Secret: Dare to Dream” movie is about the delicate alignment between intentions and positive vibrations. In your opinion, what is the recipe for inciting serendipity and the magic of second chances in our lives? Jerry O'Connell: I don't like darkness hanging over my head – love rain but could take a pass on those dark clouds. The Debbie Downer syndrome is a pretty scary thing - BTW, please look up 'Debbie Downer' SNL sketch with Rachel Dratch and I dare you to dream and try and not laugh. Life isn't always unicorns and lollipops, but it sure isn't a bowl of cherry pit either! We all face so much tough crap every day. I hope we can move forward for a better tomorrow with the knowledge learned today. OMTIMES

|AUGUST A

OMTimes: Do you have a set of beliefs or spiritual practices? Do you practice the Law of Attraction? Jerry O'Connell: I don't consider myself an overtly spiritual practitioner, per se, but I do believe what you give is what you get in life. For the most part, I like to live with my glass (at least) ½ FULL. In the big picture, my life has been extremely good – health, well-being, a FAN-tastic wife, beautiful kids (when they listen), and loving family and friends. Whenever I am down, I remind myself of things I am grateful for. I just run down a list. Try it; it works!

OMTimes: What are your thoughts about the Law of Abundance's phrase "Success is a habit that is acquired with practice."

OMTIMES

Jerry O'Connell: Ha - now, how does one define "Success?!" I do believe that success in your profession, relationships, health, etc. is all intertwined. One action causes a reaction or ripple across those different areas. You get knocked down a lot in life-- but it is how you react to the situation that can define you. OMTimes: According to Charles F. Haanel, "It is the combination of thought and love which forms the irresistible force of the Law of attraction." : Have you ever experienced the power of the Law of Attraction in your own life? If so, can you share with us an episode? Jerry O'Connell: I was working on a TV show and having a little bit of a hard time. It was just a strange work environment. One of my coworkers, a great actor by the name of Boris Kodjoe, asked me what was up. |AUGUST A

OMTIMES

I told him some of my problems, and he asked me to come to his dressing room. He gave me a copy of The Secret. I rolled my eyes and told him I didn't need a selfhelp book; I just needed a new job. He made me promise I would crack it open. I liked him, so I did, and I started visualizing if they made a scripted movie based on THE SECRET, I would be one of the stars. Boom, here we are.

OMTimes: Based on your perspective, in a world divided by so many different schools of thoughts and preconceptions, do you believe if people collectively decided to practice positivity and clarity of intentions, we could create a positive shift as a species? Jerry O'Connell: Interesting question. I certainly do hope so. I am a realist and know the significant issues of today (top of mind: like COVID19) will not be gone with the snap of my fingers. But I do try to do what I can in my world to make it a better place – I guess it's more the "baby steps" approach. It may not be leaps and bounds but chipping away clearly and consistently to move life forward positively and constructively.

|AUGUST A

OMTimes: The difference between the two male characters in "Dare to Dream," Bray Johnson and Tucker, includes the mastering of specific life skills. If your character Tucker was your friend in this lifetime, what advice would you give to him about getting what he wanted in life, and how do you think he would react to it? Jerry O'Connell: Tricky. More than likely, I would advise him to take a step back and chill a little.

Tucker's actions were too forced. He was manufacturing situations to get what he wanted. You can't buy true love. He was trying to buy her affection with grand gestures that just weren't natural. His reaction initially would be to blow it off. But he is a smart guy who isn't yet comfortable in his ski. Over time, I feel he would come to appreciate the advice. OMTimes: Generosity is one of the elements of the Law of Attraction to create a magnet of manifestation. Tucker always rescued Miranda from her "Series of Unfortunate Events life," many times also allowing her the space to grow the affection between them.

OMTIMES

Would you say, based on the precepts of the Law of Attraction, that your character Tucker had the power of intent but not the power of clarity, nor the mindset to manifest his objectives? Or do you think that their relationships just didn't click? Jerry O'Connell: I felt "Tucker" had both the power of intent AND the mindset to manifest his objective. It was the clarity that was his downfall. He just had blinders on when it came to reading & understand the human emotions Miranda was displaying. Relationships

The interconnectiveness among all human beings and, consequently, the relationships among us are the focus of this section. The dynamics of the web of connections we make is one of the most prominent aspects of human existence: how we interlace with each other’s existence in a meaningful way.

Crisis Of Faith

How to Overcome a Dark Night of the Soul by: Cathedral Of The Soul Have you heard of the Dark Night of the Soul? Have you ever had an existential crisis? Only those who have lived through this crucial moment in their lives know how delicate and difficult it can be to get out of it. The Dark night is more than anything a spiritual crisis, a crisis of faith, that can envelop the mental, emotional and psychic realms of your being. When it happens, you may

Sometimes you can't see your way out. The "dark night of the soul" it's a reality for many, many people.

have to find the assistance of a Health professional, because sometimes, existential crises can overpower our abilities to cope. We listed some suggestions to help you cope better with the impact of such crisis.

Mariel Hemingway

Dark Night or Existential Crisis: How does it Happen? The existential crisis happens to many people and consists of a moment of discouragement when we try to seek a real meaning for our life. It can be triggered by an event or appear without any apparent cause, but it is most commonly detected in a sad or losing moment. The existential crisis, according to psychologists, happens more frequently in people with high wisdom, intelligence superior to the others, which brings questions about the world in a different way. The absence of answers can, however, trigger the crisis. When we are experiencing an existential crisis, everything seems to upset us, our feelings are on edge, no one seems to be able to understand us. Many people say they want to disappear, and have a time off, when they don't think about problems or anyone. The desire is just to stay in bed and do absolutely nothing. Some people confuse it with depression, others end up judging it as laziness, but it is neither, it is a moment of reflection that is difficult to face, but that needs to be faced head on so that it does not take more serious proportions.

The Eye of the storm - Get out of that Place. An existential crisis is a very delicate period and there is no exact formula for getting out of it, because everyone has their own crisis, of different reasons and intensities. Our advice can help you not to let it sink you, affect you a lot and get you out of it more strongly. But again, if you feel that you can't copy alone, you should immediately seek professional help or a mental health hotline.

Recognize You are Having a Problem Many people find it difficult to recognize that they are experiencing an existential crisis. But recognizing the problem is the first step in overcoming it. There is no shame in being experiencing an existential crisis, questioning the purpose of life is natural to human beings, including the most evolved human beings. Each of us has the power to choose the reason for our existence and give it meaning, this is the moment that your mind is asking you to reflect on. You cannot let yourself be overwhelmed by negative feelings.

QUESTION YOURSELF, ANSWERS ARE WITHIN.

this crisis to someone else. It is necessary to take responsibility for this moment lived.

Many people in crisis say "my job depresses me", "my boyfriend pisses me off", "my family doesn't understand me". After all, are you living for yourself or for others? Take control for your life and your problems, only one person can get you out of this existential crisis: yourself. Don't play the victim, don't think that everyone is against you, that the world conspires against you or that you're unlucky, it doesn't work that way. These are traps of the ego. Only you can take responsibility for your life, your path and define how you will react to this situation. By taking the power back over our lives to ourselves, we see clearly that it is only up to us to get out of this distressing feeling, and the path becomes much easier.

OMTIMES • AUG A

Take a deep breath, count to 10, realize that this crisis is fleeting, and if your mind starts to fill with negative and victimizing thoughts, put them away immediately. Start taking control of your life, your actions and your thoughts going forward. Bringing the Darkness into Light: Path of Enlightenment We know it is not easy, but it is necessary. Not everyone has existential crises, and they can live a lifetime without any purpose or motivation because of it. Not you, this crisis made you open your eyes to look for a bigger reason to live, your mind is smart enough to warn you that you needed a change. It is time to look within yourself, to seek what really brings your happiness, your fullness as a person. It is time to ask questions about your actions, your thoughts, your essence. I don't have the answers, don't be afraid of the changes that this existential crisis may ask of you, you just need to believe in yourself, to believe that a stronger and more complete person is able to come out of this crisis than he was before. Do not be afraid of failure, you will only overcome it if you face it, there is only one way, there is nothing to invent. This experience can be painful, but it is also decisive, a watershed in your life, it will bring you more wisdom to evolve, grow, change, find success and be genuinely happy. To calm your heart in hours of anguish: remember, tomorrow is the brand-new day. Don't hurry, not judge the pace of your healing, don't punish yourself for it, everyone has their time to get out of the crisis, respect your timing. Â

Chaos to Clarity: Real pain. Real people. Real healing. Real stories of transformation. Be touched and inspired by the heart and soul of our shared humanity. Coming back from a place of pain or hopelessness can feel like an uphill battle with no end in sight. But what about those people who somehow manage to not only survive a tragedy or illness but emerge from it stronger and happier than ever before? Chaos to Clarity: Sacred Stories of Transformational Change shares inspirational stories of people from around the world who did just that―refused to let their pain define the rest of their life. Written by founder of Sacred Stories Publishing Rev. Patricia Cagganello and award-winning author Kathleen O'Keefe-Kanavos, with the Foreword by NY Times bestselling author Dr. Bernie Siegel, over thirty storytellers in Chaos to Clarity bare their souls during their darkest hours and share the challenges they faced head-on. In Chaos to Clarity, the authors lead by example. Offering their spiritual and psychological expertise, Cagganello and Kanavos share their differing points of view on the stories and how the change created clarity. When commenting on the four different sections in the book; Love and Relationships, Health and Wellness, Grief and Loss, and Life Journey and Identity, co-author Cagganello uses her spiritual knowledge as a reverend, while Kanavos draws on her expertise in psychology. The result is a marriage of minds that birthed Chaos to Clarity: Sacred Stories of Transformational Change.
