What to Do When Your , Energy’ s Been Zapped by Rebecca Clio Gould

Omtimes.com

Are You Feeling Too Tired and Zapped? Have you ever just been going about your day, doing your thing, feeling great, and then suddenly you’re not feeling so great anymore? Perhaps after an interaction with someone you notice you’re feeling

depleted? Low energy? Maybe even sick to your stomach? Or like you’re getting a headache?

a tightness and a tenseness in her that I was starting to feel in myself as I stood there beside her.

Despite our best efforts to have good energetic and emotional boundaries, sometimes this happens. And it could result from a variety of circumstances--from a long customer service phone call, a solicitor at the front door, or talking to someone who is full of fear and worry, to name a few.

So, I did my best to create a good energetic and emotional boundary while we talked. I amped up my inner light and expanded my own protective “happy bubble.” I listened to what she had to say, and even responded positively, with a sense of calm and perspective, no worries, no fear.

Discover Ways to Beat the Energy Drain My favorite example of this happening, and what to do about it, comes from a couple of years ago. I had just finished moving into my new home, and a neighbor starts telling me all sorts of “scary” stuff about my house. She kept using the word “scary” as she talked about things like mold and rats. Her body language, word choice, facial expressions, tone of voice--everything about her--was so full of fear and concern. There was

Reaction and Response Are Two Different Aspects But as soon as I walked away? I felt sick and tired. And pretty freaked out. Had I just bought a moldy, rat-infested house?! The first thing I did in response to noticing this delayed reaction? I went into my bathroom, looked in the mirror, stuck out my tongue, let out a “bleh!”, and started shaking my body for a few seconds like a traumatized animal. Then I sat down and took a deep breath.

Omtimes.com

Next? I called my real estate agent, who is also a good friend and knowledgeable about all things related to not only home-purchasing but home ownership and maintenance. And he helped me see what I already knew: don’t worry about it--there’s always a solution--and....my fear-based neighbor had just zapped me. Don’t get me wrong; my neighbor is sweet, and her intentions were good. Plus, it’s important to have the information and some of the warnings she provided. My concern was how it affected me energetically and emotionally.

A Few Steps to Prevent Energy Drain Although I could shake it off quickly, it was intense while it lasted. And part of the intensity for me was the surprise of it. I was surprised to be feeling so affected. But I was. I’m human. And if you’re a sensitive one like me, then perhaps you can

Omtimes.com

relate. Sometimes, despite our best efforts to prevent them, energy drains happen; energy zappers get us. What to do when that happens? When all else fails to prevent energy drains, try one or any combination of the following: 1) Shake. Literally, shake. it.off. Jump around, move around, whatever it takes. Moving your body will also help break up stagnation and bring in fresh, pure, vital lifeforce energy to revitalize and restore you. 2) Go outside. Get some fresh air. Let the fresh air cleanse your energy field. Standing in the earth with bare feet is also a wonderful thing to do. With or without shoes on, you can feel or imagine releasing any negativity into the earth through the soles of your feet. You can also feel or imagine fresh, pure, healing energy coming in through your feet, nourishing you and revitalizing you.

A Few More Possibilities to Try 3) Drink some water. Allow the water to hydrate, refresh, and purify you. It’s possible that you were dehydrated in the first place, making you more prone to being energy zapped! 4) Voice it. Calling my friend, speaking about what had just happened, helped lighten up the heaviness and shine light on the darkness. It’s a way of getting it out of your system, brushing it off, releasing it. If you don’t have someone to talk to, or prefer to keep it to yourself, write it out. Using your voice in speech or in writing is a great way to let go of what you don’t want and welcome in what you do want; it’s a great way to get your power, your energy, back.

One More Thing about Energy Drain 5) Surrender to it; rest. Resisting takes even more energy, so admit to the depletion. First, give in to the

reality of the energy drain so that you can then go beyond the reality of the energy drain, to the reality of that there is an infinite supply of energy; you can and deserve to reclaim yours. The Mandela Effect and Reality Merging by Courtney Marchesani

In another dimension, popular “beginner books feature a family of friendly bears who teach children about morality and life lessons. They are titled, The Berenstein Bears. In another, we saw news where Nelson Mandela, the tireless apartheid activist, passed Omtimes.com

away during his incarceration in Africa. We may have also learned about Greenland and Iceland in geography. And then, there was Svalbard. If you think that the books titled The Berenstain Bears have a misspelling, if you believe that Nelson Mandela died in prison, or you never knew of the existence of Svalbard, then you may be experiencing the Mandela Effect, or “ME” for short. It is a recent phenomenon whereby some of us diverge from society in our memories of the past. These memories are oddly different from the majority. The Mandela Effect is relatively new and hypothesizes there are people who merged into this reality from another.

What is The Mandela Effect? According to internet sources, the Mandela effect (ME) was first written about in 2012 in a Stranger Dimensions blog

post titled The Wood Between Worlds. Authored by a physics student named Reece, the piece posited a hypothesis on The Berenstein Bears problem. His explanation was a parallel universe, “At some point in the last 10 years or so reality has been tampered with and history was retroactively changed. Somehow, we have all undergone a ?/2 phase change in all 4 dimensions so that we moved to the stAin hexadectant, while our counterparts moved to our hexadectant (stEin).” Articles explaining the phenomenon credit Fiona Broome as the originator of the name Mandela Effect. Broome discovered other people who had false memories similar to hers. Specifically, that Nelson Mandela died during his imprisonment in the 1980s. “See, I thought Nelson Mandela died in prison. I thought I remembered it clearly, complete with news clips of his funeral, the

Omtimes.com

mourning in South Africa, some rioting in cities, and the heartfelt speech by his widow. Then, I found out he was still alive.” As the Internet buzzed over the ME paradox, it quickly earned a title as a conspiracy theory. Causes for the false memories were attributed to everything from confabulation of memory, alien invaders, the European Organization for Nuclear Research known as CERN, and a time-traveler altering time.

Are We Living in a Simulation? More recently, as an offshoot from ME, a new theory has gained recognition in surprising circles. Over the summer, billionaire Elon Musk (PayPal, SpaceX, and Tesla) made a public statement on reality. “We are almost definitely living in a ‘Matrix Style’ simulation.” The Silicon Valley mogul told a reporter at San Francisco’s code

Omtimes.com

conference that the odds we are not living in a simulation were billions-to-one. Certain philosophers, physicists, and scientists are exploring the notion of reality through this simulation hypothesis; that our experience of reality is a giant computer simulating our existence and was created by a more advanced intelligence. These experts are looking to the past to define our current state of existence. This includes the rapid advancement of technology and our memories within it. Inside this paradigm, the Mandela Effect is a glitch in the matrix we are living in, but not conscious of. Most academics are skeptical of the simulation theory. However, others are investing considerable time, effort, and financial resources toward explaining it. In a piece with The New Yorker titled, Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny, staff writer Tad Friend explores the possibility that there are

two technology billionaires secretly working to find the right scientists to crack the simulation code.

Does this mean The Matrix and The Mandela Effect are real? The idea of a superhuman race or intelligence designing simulations may be new according to contemporary philosophy. But Descartes, who coined the phrase, “I think therefore I am,” and other philosophers were theorizing about existence long before Atari, Nintendo, and The Berenstain Bears. Most of these modern-day scientists refute or negate spirituality and consciousness in their research efforts. Whereas, with the Mandela Effect, we cannot escape it. If there are individuals who either experienced an extinction event on another timeline or a natural merging of one parallel’s timeline into this one, one thing is for

certain. It will be small oddities like The Berenstein Bears, the spelling of Chick-Fil-A (check it out!), and popular culture, which bring the glitch’s novelty to our attention. It will make us question who we really are. Only through the culture of questioning consciousnessbased spirituality will we bring these altered memories to critical mass. Not, the evading of consciousness in the very question, “What is reality?” Reference: http:// www.newyorker.com/ magazine/2016/10/10/samaltmans-manifest-destiny About the Author Courtney Marchesani is the author of The Energetic Psychopath: How to Protect Yourself and Recover from Violence. The Currency of Affluence by Crystal Presence

How Affluent, or Rich, Might We Really Be? Throughout history, humans have striven for affluence, most often by accumulating money or wealth. Currency has been referred to as a medium of exchange, like gold, bank

Omtimes.com

notes, or other physical things that people place value on. Today, much of our currency is experienced as a digital movement going back and forth with no intrinsic value. The currency of affluence can also be perceived as a current of income-ing energy moving through us; such as a current of incoming affluence coming directly from our connection with the source that creates and sustains us. Some people experience affluence as a natural state of being. Others spend their lives hoping and dreaming that affluence will someday happen to them. They work hard and assume that lacking must be their lot in life. They often wonder if the affluent are hoarding some kind of secret they will never have access to. People who experience lacking sometimes envy, judge, and assume that affluent people are crooked, selfish people that take all the wealth that should to be divided up with all the others on our planet.

Our Natural Wealth is Abundant for All to Enjoy Meanwhile, we all are witnessing flowers, trees, babies, technology and other forms of manifestation bursting into life around us. We ponder the nature of the source that creates us and wonder how to harness that power. We want to experience that flow of affluence in our own lives. A question might be, “What is the nature of experiencing ourselves free of any holding back from the currency of affluence that available to us? By asking these questions, more and more people are understanding that an endless currency of affluence is accessible to everyone. It is how we think, feel and behave that makes the difference whether or not we experience the affluence available to us.

Helpful Ways to Allow the Currency of Affluence to Flow The following are eight great

Omtimes.com

ways to allow the currency of affluence to flow through us: (1) Asking powerful questions and receiving powerful answers. Notice how the following question is stated in the form of receiving the answer as the actual experience we want: “What is the nature of experiencing the currency of affluence flowing from my inside out?” (2) Letting energy circulate freely through our bodies. Asking ourselves if we are stagnant or if we are allowing a free flow of energy to circulate through us? Movement expands the space for changing how we think, feel and take action in our lives. Bradford Keeney’s book, Shaking Medicine, is great testament to how movement has restored wellness and true affluence throughout human history. (3) Admitting there is no secret. Acknowledging that deep inside we know the truth. We have the power to make changes in our lives. We can start by ask ourselves

Omtimes.com

questions such as: “What is the nature of experiencing myself as sufficient enough to realize what I want in life?” Lynn Twist’s book, The Soul of Money, is a wonderful resource for discovering the truth of our sufficiency to be affluent.

More Great Ways to Let Wealth Flow (4) Exploring the unconscious habitual impulses of our personality. Instead of defending ourselves, we can embrace the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that perpetuate our lack of affluence. Our inner guidance system can introduce us to fresh approaches for becoming aware of whatever is holding us back. A wonderful the book, The Wisdom of the Enneagram, can help us see and resolve many of the details of how we resist, deny and deceive ourselves. Seeing ourselves so clearly may feel uncomfortable at first, and if we hang in there, we can see the humor in it all! (5) Conjuring up the bodily felt sense of how it feels to

be affluent. Imagining how it would feel to be affluent with the currency of affluence moving through us. Allowing ourselves to bring forth a wonderful sense of wellbeing, with new ideas and solutions flowing effortlessly into our lives. (6) Cultivating a network of people who we can call upon when we want support. Creating affluence with influence. We probably already have friends, neighbors, business associates and acquaintances who we have influence with. When you meet or see one of them, discover if there is any way you can be supportive.

A Couple More Ways to Affect Our Affluence (7) Having affluent conversations with ourselves. Appreciating the affluence that is already present in our lives. Acknowledging that our lives are always changing. Talking to ourselves from a new affluent point of view. Noticing if our conversations with ourselves

are about what is lacking, or rather about how we are opening the flood gates to all the possibilities that are available to us. (8) Willingness. Willingness is the art of suspending thoughts, feelings and any holding back we feel in our bodies. It is the art of allowing something new to happen. Thus, a good ten seconds of pure willingness can get the ball rolling! Can You Find Life Happiness with Psychic Security? by Veronica Lee

Why Intuitive Insights Do Not Ensure Accuracy or Joy There are a few things to know when it comes to ‘psychic security.’ Many believe that developing

Omtimes.com

one’s intuition - or getting information from a professional psychic - will ensure that they will “know” whatever they need to know, when they need to know it. There is a false sense of “all will be well once I know the answer” kind of security. This is not only unrealistic; it is a set up for disappointment and can distract you from the deeper gifts available from intuitive insights. Our intuitive senses are, well, senses. And, given that they are metaphysical (denoting “beyond” or “behind”), they are a bit less tangible than our physical senses - though one may experience physical sensations through psychic awareness. Although it may be mindbogglingly awesome to have some “spot on” intuitive insights, it’s important to understand that intuitive senses are prone to the same misperceptions as our other senses. When undeveloped, intuitive discernment is tricky to say the least. Yet even as the professional hones in on

mastered psychic skills, the information offered may not be accurate all of the time. Why is that?

What To Do, When Senses Mislead You? First, notice how often your own senses mislead you. I swear I heard someone knocking!... I’m sure I saw the light was green!... It didn’t taste spoiled when I ate it! When filtering extra-sensory perceptive information many things may be happening at once; sounds, words, feelings, body sensations, images, colors, and complete “knowings” can bombard the intuitive, whether novice or professional. Receiving and delivering intuitive information is a multi-dimensional form of communication. It takes practice detecting, interpreting and finally translating such ethereal perceptions. Even the best communicator can sometimes misunderstand what’s being conveyed and respond inadequately.

Omtimes.com

Another reason intuitive insights can be “inaccurate” is that we are complex human beings with an array of beliefs, feelings, fears, and tendencies. Let’s say you are trying to psychically “peg” another person so you can “know” his or her romantic intentions toward you. A psychic read can tap into another person’s deep-seated fear, such as “I don’t trust anyone because I was abandoned,” and detect a closed heart. It can pick up on the person’s behavioral tendency; “I love the sexual charge of new attractions.”

Can It Be More? There is Always More And, of course, it can read the person from a higher soul level; “I wish to transcend my relationship issues and open to real love.” All of these perceptions may be concurrently true, yet from which aspect the person chooses to act will impact the outcome. When it comes to psychic predictions and insights, here is a good analogy: If you are

Omtimes.com

driving up a U.S. highway heading toward Canada, you could stop at a gas station and ask, “Am I going to get to Canada?” The local, who might know the route like the back of his hand, could reply, “Absolutely.” Essentially, the local is basing his answer on your intention to get to Canada as well as the highway and direction you are travelling. Noticing that you are travelling by car, not bike, he may also be able to predict how long it will take you to get there. The response is only as good as the considerations at that instance. The local has no control as to whether you decide to turn around and go to Mexico, or if you change course or vehicle and take the long, scenic route to Canada.

Psychic Security - Sensing the Excitement Whether they are your own intuitive insights, or those offered by a professional psychic, it is absolutely possible to make fascinating and accurate predictions! Although

this can be extremely exciting, and even feel promising, psychic “knowings” don’t mean you will be forever joyful. True joy is not based on having certainties in life. Sometimes the initial attraction to obtaining psychic information is the sense of security that it might offer, and many of us equate security with happiness. Yet security is an illusion. Sure, we all long for “enough” money, a forever love relationship, a solid roof over our head, and optimal health. As much as these things can make us feel good, they don’t guarantee authentic joy nor are they promised to us indefinitely. Life happens. People get sick, jobs change, lovers leave, roofs leak. Since change is the only constant, we must find ways to unlock joy within us, amidst perpetual change.

Knowing What You Know is Empowering You already have extra-sensory perceptions. Whether your own or from a professional, relevant psychic insights

generally validate what you already know on a deeper level. If you choose to further develop your own abilities you - like the professional - will still be perfectly, beautifully human. As with money, relationships and good health, being psychic - acknowledging what your metaphysical senses tell you - can certainly be pleasurable. A deepening of your senses, psychic awareness expands your capacity to experience the multi-faceted richness of life. It can open you up to new aspects of your amazing being. accentuated. If the wine has good qualities, they are enhanced. We humans are mostly liquid, so when we enter this sacred chamber, it is a grand opportunity to clarify our own inner selves. This chamber helps us to get to the knowingness of who we are. We are electrical in nature, with impulses running from our brains through our spinal columns. We are receivers, we are conduits, and this chamber enhances our receptiveness, opening the left and right sides of our brains, much like the dolphins, whales, and elephants who are in touch with Essence, the all-one ‘soul of the world.' Summerhill follows organic growing practices. No herbicides or pesticides "keeps the lake clean and our grapes don't taste from the chemicals," says Cipes. "These grapes are happy guys, they're flourishing. Our wines are allowing nature to speak for herself." Summerhill wines are regularly honored in international competitions. "We won the gold medal in Champagne France," he beams, "against French Champagne.

Dirk Terpstra: Terpstra with Stephen Cipes.

speaks

But Cipes initiated something very unusual – he constructed a gigantic pyramid in Canada’s natural landscape. The Summerhill Pyramid is second only to the Great Pyramid of Egypt for alignment and precision. The knowingness of eternity awaits us in this sacred chamber. The word Py-ramid means "fire in the middle." We all have this fire in the middle. It is our hearts, our souls. We are mostly liquid, and we are affected just like the wine is affected. The effect is clarification. If the wine has a flaw in it, the flaw is

OMTimes.com

Stephen Cipes: Sure. I am fascinated with sacred geometry. I am fascinated with ancient civilizations and, of course,

I am fascinated with life itself. What are we? Who are we? Where are we going and what are we doing? Let's put it all together, you know. There are pyramids all over the world. Why is that? There are ancient civilizations all over the world that have had these sacred geometry chambers. What was their purpose? What was their Knowingness? I like to use that word with a capital K. Knowingness that had them create these chambers. I think that I have come to some answers, now that we have had almost 30 years of, I would call them ‘experiments with liquids’ in a sacred geometry chamber. We now know, for a fact, that liquids are clarified… Wine or

because it is intensified. And most of the visitors to the Summerhill Pyramid are here on holiday and are having a good time… they come in here, and they don't want to leave! That alone is a beautiful thing to understand. We all learn so much from the pyramid. It is a grand clarifier – a magnificent opportunity to go within and to heal ourselves. We all know that we are our own best healers. No one can heal us. But we can heal ourselves. And when we come into a sacred chamber like the pyramid, it is perhaps the most conducive atmosphere in which to focus on ourselves. We can lose ourselves, so to speak, in a grander dimension. It allows us to open up all of the dimensions. Our right and left-brain merge in the negative ion chamber and become one, much like the dolphins and the whales and the elephants, as we become attuned to our electrical bodies. Which by the way, per physics theorist Nassim Haramein, is the way our bodies and all of the nature are structured. He goes on to say that the actual cells are made of atoms, and atoms are made of pyramidal geometry. So, hello, we are coming home in this chamber! And this home is a grand place where entities want to be. This may seem far-fetched, but I have come into the pyramid and been able to invite and welcome just about any entity in any dimension.

juice, or water that comes into the pyramid, that has flaws. Those flaws will be accentuated while good qualities will be accentuated. Just as we, humans, are mostly liquid, if a person walks into this chamber after just having had an upsetting incident, they will want to turn around and walk right back out OMTimes.com

As you said before, I am in this body now for over 70 years, so I know a lot of people who are no longer on this plane. There are so many people I have been close to for a lot of years that are no longer here, and I can communicate with almost all of them. It is so beautiful, and of course, there are also those that I

call upon who are ‘beyond the sun.' The pyramid is ‘Py-Ra-Mid’ – ‘Fire in the Middle,' which is representative of our microcosm of the universe bodies' beating heart, our fire in the middle!

Stephen Cipes: Yes, and Rumi's work has helped me and countless others. Being one with nature, with All That Is. Just hearing the waves on the shore and looking at the stars at night and focusing on our breath and our heartbeat. You know, when you are having a new baby, and you first hear the heartbeat in mommy's stomach. You just have this overwhelming magnificence of how beautiful and sacred life is. The first time that heart beats and you know that the heartbeat is everything. You know, it is life itself.

Stephen Cipes: Well, I have theories about life force energy, which, we all do. But electrum is a word. It is a mighty word. It encompasses our electrical ability to communicate with each other and to have all that we are be one and communicate. When one of us, just one of the 8 billion of us that are in the body, not to mention the billions and billions of us that are on the ethereal plane, has an epiphany – I call it a jolt – it reaches out

OMTimes.com

to all of us. It touches all of us! It is phenomenal. So, our receiving abilities are enhanced by opening our feminine receiving energy, which is more difficult for us men because we have X Y chromosomes while women are X X and it is easier for them, but we men can do it!

Stephen Cipes: Well, it's a good question. I do it by focusing on the pituitary gland which emanates as a purple strobe in the middle of our forehead. And focusing on the breathing and letting go of my masculine ego self, so to speak, and I come into a whole new realm. I get the sound of the universe coming into my ears, my body starts to vibrate. I sit up with my back straight. I also call it the Loving Universal Consciousness – L U C – that surrounds us always and is us. This is beautifully proven in so many ways, and in so many experiments. My book is available for free on our website: alloneera.com. It is not a book per se, it is a specific outline, a guide, on how we humans can lift the veil of separation and join in the already in motion ascension of mankind. It is to establish worldwide

gatherings honoring nature so we can open to experience how magnificent we are. This is The Prophecy of All Prophecies… Knowing our Forever Oneness. Oneness is a responsibility and perhaps the greatest gift. It is a gift we need to accept. Acceptance of gifts is something that is very difficult for me. My whole life I have been giving and giving and wouldn't take from anyone. It came out in the form of some serious illnesses which I have, knock on wood, overcome. But it was a great lesson. Sometimes illnesses teach us our greatest lessons. One of my greatest lessons was to open to receive, and to be grateful and to accept gifts. I am now flourishing and receiving beautiful gifts from almost all that surrounds me.

Stephen Cipes: Taking back our power with how we nourish ourselves with food and thoughts and friends and business. My message is clear and simple Dirk, we humans ARE God, our Knowingness IS holy. We can take back our glory and divinity now while respecting and supporting all the religions and all the laws we have created. As we well know,

OMTimes.com

we evolve the law with our rising consciousness. This All One Era is our subtle, gentle yet all-powerful way for humanity to take back our power on all levels. It is our way to becoming Conduits of Spirit and turn around the present speeding greedy ruinous path we are on to certain destruction. The good news is… it’s as simple as “going within” where our alignment with the L U C (Loving Universal Consciousness) Guides us. How can we retrieve our essence like all of the rest of nature does? The method is to relearn how to listen to that inner Loving Guidance and act with it. The message is also about manifesting. This is our plane of demonstration. This is why we created it. We now are in bodies and we have this magnificent plane of demonstration, our playground, where we can make our own music and art. My dad used to say: “Music and art are the highest aspirations of mankind.” I loved him for that. Our lives are painting in themselves. Everything we do is a piece of art. In my career, I have focused on being an entrepreneur. My earliest business was in tenth grade when I went out and bought wooden boats and restored and resold them. At one point, between eleventh and twelfth grade, I owned 17 boats! Then I started to buy and sell real estate. After that, I started to develop land and then I was inspired to engage land engineers to help me design the projects so that it wouldn't interrupt nature because I was so concerned about nature. This all had happened in the early '60's before anyone had anything to do with ecological concerns. I said, “No, I don’t want to disturb the wetlands, and I don’t want to disturb the steep slopes. I just want to cluster the

housing and allow nature to be in harmony with us and the food chain”.

create A DIAMOND ON OUR EMERALD PLANET!!!!!

So I introduced all those things, and this is my painting. My life is my painting. Our lives are our paintings and pieces of art. We are music. We are vibration. We so much need to "let go, let God."

When we inhibit our bodies with chemicals, by the way, cell phones and all wireless transmissions are perhaps one of the most serious forms of pollution, we are severely limiting our natural oneness and full connection with the silver cord.

Two of the most beautiful truths in the world are Forgiveness and Patience. My dad used to always say “Patience and Fortitude.” Patience is one of the most beautiful words. I have two capital P words, one is Patience, and one is Presence… two very important words.

Stephen Cipes: The Okanagan Organic 2020 Vision (okanaganorganic.com) is a chance to establish a world model of harmony with nature by the whole valley becoming 100% organic by the year 2020. Here in the northernmost fruitgrowing region in the world, we have the least number of pests and it is easy to grow without pesticides and herbicides. We built the Summerhill Pyramid Winery to be a model of man and nature, but now almost 300 wineries followed and sadly, 99% are using chemicals. The time is ideal to demonstrate that abundance economically and ecologically is possible here using organic farming methods to maintain our pristine mountain, lake growing region for all time. We have thousands of signatures including the mayors and chiefs and a host of celebrities! I think, everyone is excited that we CAN coOMTimes.com

These things add up to an unfortunate situation where there are few of us who can be in the ‘Vibration of Oneness.' It doesn't mean that all of us can't be there, but it does mean that we need to do our homework. My book is an ascension plan, a blueprint for rejuvenating our “Silver Cord” with Spirit. I’m now drafting a program of specific practices, which may help the millions of us who appreciate a step-by-step daily regime. We want to grow our own gardens, we want to be more self-sufficient, we want to get away from dependence and from giving away our power, and we want to drink lots of fresh, clean water. Speaking of water, we are thrilled to have just discovered 7 springs of the purest water coming up from the earth here in the Nature Reserve portion of the Summerhill eighty acres, and we are hoping to get approval to bottle it soon and put it through the pyramid for clarification and vibrational enhancement. We are shooting the water through a vortex process, spinning it like the famous Hunza Water, which is attributed to hosting the longest living people on Earth. Things like this and growing your own food are very important and also to

eliminate as much as possible all animal proteins in our diet. The agony an animal goes through when they are slaughtered in front of their kindred children and how the adrenaline that they secrete goes through us and makes us uptight. Why would we do such a thing? And the poor chickens, the way that they are grown, and everybody eat chickens like nothing…and fish that are grown in conditions from farms or from the ocean’s now with toxic rates of pollution. I could go on and on.

If we take out the animal protein, even eggs and butter and cheese, and I know we all love those so much, we would have bodies that no longer host chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease. If you Google “Dr. Esselstyne”, he shows scientific proof that these diseases are reversed with the total elimination of animal protein in our diet. How powerful! I can tell you that with good recipes, you wouldn't believe how fantastic vegan food can taste. I could make a banquet, and people would roll their eyes at how good it tastes, without a single ounce of animal protein. We don't need it. Our teeth are designed to eat plant-based foods. We are not carnivorous. I say no more.

Stephen Cipes: My aspirations are simple. I have the blessed experience of having a delightful 6-year-old daughter who helps keep me in my little boy self, I fully appreciating her little girl self, so it’s like being a child with her. It opens our creativity. We’re always now and have that happy exuberance and love of life. Love means so much to me. Love is such a beautiful word. To me, it is synonymous with God and with all there is. It is the essence of who we are. It is the vibration that we are. When we shed a tear, you feel the love…emotion brings us, love. Emotion ties us into our souls, and our souls are forever. And it is love that brings the emotion. It is love that we can take with us. That is how we are forever beings. We never die, our souls don't die. Our bodies come and go, yes they do, but we are alive through love and through our forever souls. It is such a blessed thing to be alive in a body. We cherish every day in our body because it is the greatest privilege to have our bodies on this heavenly plane where we nourish and unfold our ever-evolving souls. Workplace Burnout Comes Down to Employees Being Too ‘Nice’ by Marcia Sirota, MD.

Omtimes.com

Are You Feeling the Workplace Burnout? People talk a lot about workplace burnout, but they don’t always understand what it is, or how to prevent it. In my work as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, I’ve seen many cases of workplace

burnout. And in my experience, it often comes from the employee being too “nice.” What does it look like when you’re too nice at work? It’s when you do more than your fair share. You arrive early, stay late, take on extra tasks, and generally do more than what is in your job description. If you’re too nice, it’s usually because of trying to win the boss’s approval, and perhaps your colleagues, too. You’re trying to find validation by showing the people you work with how helpful and accommodating you can be. Being too nice at work is meant to win you approval and praise, but instead, you end up feeling exploited. If you’re too nice at work, you’re the person who everyone turns to when they’re feeling overloaded. When people are out sick or on vacation, they know that you’re the one

who’ll always pick up the slack.

Too ‘Nice?’ Expect More Than Your Fair Share Even if they’re piling unreasonable amounts of work on you, you’ll always do your best to complete it. Even if your workplace is giving you more and more work to do with less and less support, you’ll try to please your managers and co-workers by getting the job done. The problem is that it’s overwhelming to be always doing more than your fair share in your workplace. Being the “nice” person at work invariably leads to mounting stress, exhaustion, frustration and ultimately burnout, when you can no longer cope with the pressures of having to over-perform.

Burnout Can Come from Unreasonable Expectations Being too nice at work is

Omtimes.com

meant to win you approval and praise, but instead, you end up feeling exploited. Once you’ve set yourself up as the person who’ll always be there for everyone, you create unreasonable expectations in your colleagues and managers. Your supervisors and coworkers could easily start taking you for granted and demand more and more from you. Instead of appreciating everything you do, they could up the ante, which will lead to you being more and more over-worked. Sometimes, if your boss or colleagues perceive you as trying too hard to find approval, they’ll begin to look down on you. They might behave rudely or even resort to bullying behavior. In this way, being too nice at work can bring you exactly the opposite reactions to what you

Omtimes.com

were hoping for.

It’s time to see that people-pleasing is the wrong approach. When you’re working too hard, trying to make everyone happy and being treated with disrespect, contempt or even bullying, it’s easy to become burnt out. • I remember my patient Jessica, a 30-something office worker who couldn’t understand why the harder she tried to please her boss, the worse her boss was treating her. • I think of Anthony, who was becoming resentful and starting to act out childishly at work. No matter how hard he tried to be nice, he wasn’t receiving the approval he was seeking. • I remember Norman, who

took one, then another, then another sick leave for exhaustion. Sadly, all his time off didn’t help. Whenever he returned to work, he’d get right back into his habit of over-doing it. Finally, he had to leave work permanently. • I can think of Patricia. She was shocked to receive a lukewarm review after working 11-hour days trying to be “nice.” Instead of appreciating her efforts, Patricia’s boss began to expect more and more from her. Ultimately, this resulted in his being disappointed with her performance and Patricia feeling devastated by his negative reaction.

Time to Let Go of the People-Pleasing If you’ve been giving your all at work and wonder why it has the opposite effect to what

you were hoping for, it’s time to see that people-pleasing is the wrong approach. You’ll need to find a way to do your job instead of over-doing it. Before you must leave work because of burnout or find yourself demoted or fired, take a cue from the experiences of Jessica, Anthony, Norman and Patricia. Learn to let go of your people-pleasing behavior. Instead of being so nice and having it backfire on you, it’s time to finally give up this counter-productive habit at work. Embody Your Divinity with the Golden Ray by Ahtayaa Leigh

There is so much hype around embodying our higher selves. Bringing spirit into matter is the crux of the great work here on earth. But how do we do that?

How Does It Feel to Embody Divinity? No person or book can tell us how it feels to be whole. It is something we must experience Omtimes.com

for ourselves. But we can receive support, guidance and useful tools to help us on our path. The embodiment of our higher selves is no small undertaking. It is the blending of spirit and matter as expressed through our consciousness. It is the embodiment of Christ. When our multidimensional bodies are filled with golden light

absolutely everything that is blocking the flow of light is brought to the surface with the opportunity to be transmuted. But it takes strength and courage to look at these aspects of ourselves in the light and let them go. The golden ray is the energy of source that carries the Christ consciousness. The qualities of the golden ray include strength, courage, peace, balance, harmony, love, beauty, joy and creativity. These are all qualities that are perfectly represented in the Christ mythology. Strength and courage are particularly important aspects of the golden ray now because they help us face our deepest fears and peacefully transmute them. Removal of all that does not serve us is a prerequisite to embodying our holy higher selves. And although the process can seem painful, it is absolutely necessary. When we are called to the golden ray, it is because we are ready for transformation; truly ready.

The Dynamic Force of the Golden Ray The golden ray is such a dynamic force, and it is here to effect real change. It goes directly to the root cause of every imbalance drawing out blocked energies that are keeping us from allowing the life force to flow through us unencumbered. The golden ray heals the wound of separation, returning us to the heart of Creation. It unites us with All That Is. As we delve into the mysteries of both religion and science (in their pure forms), they will all lead us back to one place, the heart. Each of our heart centers connects us to All That Is. Our heart centers are interdimensional portals, inner central suns, that can pull through infinite golden light from the source of the universe into our fields. The portals in our heart centers all lead to the same place, the source of creation.

Heart Energy and the Changing Shift Through our hearts, energy is transformed into matter, Omtimes.com

directed by our consciousness. Our hearts hold the wisdom of all possible lifetimes. It is our consciousness (of which our thoughts are just a part) that chooses what will be manifest into form through our hearts. We have been closed off to this power for what seems like far too long, but this is now changing with the shift in the cycles. So, how can we truly connect with our hearts? Firstly, we must have faith in Divinity. We must have faith that we are united with All That Is. Without faith, it is difficult to move from the head to the heart, the seat of our true power.

Healthy Skepticism and the Doubting Difference Skepticism is healthy. We must question everything. But rather than question first and then experience, we must experience first and then question. If we question first, we are putting up barriers to receiving the miracles that only come from an unencumbered experience of Divinity. Doubt begets more doubt, so we find ourselves struggling to Omtimes.com

move out of doubt at all. It is a vicious cycle. We are affirming we have no power, but this is not true, because we each have ALL the power. There is no need to doubt. Trust in the higher power within. Faith begets knowing. With time those flashes of knowing we receive become our whole life’s experience. We truly know and never doubt again. Only then do we expand into the fullness of our Holy Higher Selves. If we approach everything we do with the spirit of faith and hope, we will be well on our way to embodying Christ consciousness. About the Author Ahtayaa Leigh is Founder of Gold Ray Healing, a highly rated healing technique that works with the golden ray of Christ consciousness to release and transmute our deepest fears, and thus reveal our true divine selves. Medicine Wheel Teachings from the Raven and Snake by Bear Medicinewalker

Elements Live in the Circle of Life The Medicine Wheel asks that we consider the natural energies and elements found in a circle. The circle, no beginning and no end; ‌the continuing journey of our soul from conception to birth to life to death an infinite loop of energy and influence. Birds build nests in circles, the wind send its breath through Omtimes.com

on swirling breezes through the trees. Fire dances and leaps twisting in circles as it reaches out from its point of origin to snap at what is before it. Water which is life will circle in currents swirling as it moves over the earth. The Great Mother Earth herself is round; traveling in a circle around Grandfather Sun. All are examples of the circle, no beginning, no end, continually evolving with us as

we walk the human, teaching us as we journey on our paths through life.

Medicine Wheel Teachings and Our Health This is the same of the Medicine Wheel, sharing teachings that allow us to understand and shed insights to the purpose of our existence and relevance with all things Sacred. Keeping this in mind I will share with you the teachings I have been given over the years and how they can not only enrich our lives, but strengthen our being. The Medicine Wheel, as I was taught, teaches us the four parts of who we are. Beginning with the North which represents the Mental aspect, to the South that represents the Emotional aspect, and to the East sits the Spiritual aspect and West Representing the Physical aspect of self. To be healthy, we must learn to understand and balance these aspects. It is comparable to the Zodiac and Chinese Zodiac in astrology in that it is also divided into sections of birth months with the totems of creature, plant,

mineral, elemental and more giving us the insight into who we walk with as we are born into this world. This does not mean that the sign or totems that we are born under are the only ones that will walk with us through our lifetime. It simply means that we often have the strengths and traits of our birth totems.

Insights of the Raven / Crow Birth Totem So, let us begin with the period of the Raven/Crow Birth Totem from September 22/23 to October 22/23 The Time of Leaves and Harvest Animal: Raven or Crow Plant: Mullein Mineral: Jasper Color: Brown or Blue Spirit Keeper: Grizzly Bear Power Direction: West Element: Air Elemental Clan: Butterfly Keeper of Sacred Law Raven shows itself reminding us to believe in the impossible, reach for what we feel is unattainable and we will see just what it is we are looking for, what we have been asking Omtimes.com

for as long as we are willing to accept it. The truth is before us, we simply must be open to it. Raven rewards us with a like past the everyday illusions that we create as humans... Raven will bring you the story we have not been open enough to understand and see in truths. Be strong, have Faith and remember within all things are lessons and positives. Magical ...Mystical. Slipping to time beyond time ... Often I hear people say, where are the miracles, where is the magic, and I tell them it is but at your fingertips if you will but open your eyes! We need to remember that we all have abilities and they are all unique. yet with saying that we are all part of the puzzle and without us, life would not be complete. Remember that the next time you look into a mirror, or start to doubt what and who you are. Embrace yourselves in positives, and if you don’t, the Raven will pop in and start squawking at yah until you do.

More of What the Raven is Here to Tell Us Raven is here to tell us that Omtimes.com

we are exactly where we need to be at the precise moment in time. We are also being shown things that are in and around our Sacred Hoops are reflecting back to us what we need to learn about ourselves to move in positive motion ahead on our paths. Raven teaches us about rebirth, recovery, renew and recycling, self-reflection and healing our inner spiritual. Shine our light into the dark as we transition in to the change we are facing. Open our thought process to help us understand that there needs to be balance between light and the dark ‌ that one does not occur without the other. To know one is to know the other, to understand them is to balance self. Raven teaches us to listen closer to the world of spirit, for they are guiding us forward, helping us to remember what is important, what is sacred. That our souls cannot take the material with us as we move and transition through life, but rather that it is the intangible things that imprint on us and we imprint on others that are

most important. Allow that magic to spread to your soul and enlighten your spiritual.

A Look into the Snake Birth Totem The Next Totem to fall on the Wheel is the Snake Birth Totem October 23/24 to November 21/22. The Time of Frost Animal: Snake Plant: Thistle Mineral: Copper Color: Orange or Violet Spirit Keeper: Grizzly Bear Power Direction: West Element: Water Elemental Clan: Frog Wisdom - Healing - Symbol of Eternity Snake Medicine is all about learning to balance it within our lives. So, what does that mean to us as human? Well for today to speaks to making our way through the day by depending on all our senses and understanding that this movement is part of our human experience. To make sure we use our time wisely and not waste it on frivolous

negativity. Things happen for a reason and it is up to each of us to decide how it impacts and imprints on our lives. Snake Is a difficult teacher at times, and one that is not easy to master. Lessons that Snake brings with it are of life cycles and change, remembering as we grow we shed and transform into new energies and new experiences. Snake also teaches us about poison and that we need to be able to rid ourselves of the toxins that can be placed within our Sacred Hoops or learn how to use that poison in positive ways or it can kill our spirit, or balance needed to walk a good life. The choice is up to us.

Snake Can Teach Us Much about Experiences Snake can be a hard teacher. His lessons involve a transmutation of the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Snake symbolizes this cycle with the shedding of his skin. We learn to the whole energy of life, the cosmic consciousness and have the willingness to experience anything without resistance. It is also about the poisons that we might take in. Omtimes.com

Those poisons can be eaten or ingested in some way but they also may be integrated into our lives. The goal is to not let the poisons taint our body or spirit. Since Snakes can shed they teach us about the levels of our human, of our spirituality, our experiences. It is time to seek our inner knowledge before moving ahead with decisions. It is time to coil and go within to make sure we are well prepared before we strike out. Snake also reminds us as it makes its way across the Great Mother Earth, to ground ourselves, to use our energy wisely and not to rely on primal instincts of lashing out. For at times it is more empowering to hold back and use that knowledge that energy in wise ways. At other times, it is best to strike and seize the moment with a precision and quickness. Snakes often retreat long before biting defensively because they sense that it may cause consequences/ damage to others and drain

Omtimes.com

you of healing energy. Snake is also very old and powerful healing medicine. Once harnessed, Snake will help you to position yourself carefully so that you will trust your gut when making important decisions. Until Next time, live in the moment and breathe in all the beauty life shares with us all, for we Are All Related! About the Author Empath, Artist, and Spiritual Teacher, Bear Medicinewalker: “I am dedicated to educating and sharing culture and insight with all that we can. The Law of Cause and Effect by Diane Wing, M.A.

Discover the Principle of Cause and Effect Living in accordance with and understanding of Universal Law allows you to enter into a flow with the Divine Energy. Recognizing which Law is active in the current

Omtimes.com

circumstance gives the ability to determine the best course of action in relation to that Law. The Universal Law of Cause and Effect as referenced in the Kybalion states, “Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law. You have the power to create as a result of this principle. Everything in your life is the direct result of your thoughts and actions, even when there seems no direct correlation between them. Each choice you make has a direct effect on the direction you move in, even the choice to do nothing. When deciding which relationships to keep close, which courses to study, and which mindset to uphold, all of these direct your path and create the future. Choice determines the action

to follow, and the mindset you embrace restricts or expands the range of possibilities available. Believing that obstacles prevent you from moving forward has the effect of limiting your opportunities. Trusting that there are myriad alternatives and then seeking to discover what they are serves to broaden options and creates a more optimistic outlook.

Manifest Your Ideal Life by Understanding Selfknowledge Take stock of the thoughts that occupy your mind and the effect these have on how you see the world. If there is anger, self-deprecation, and pessimism, then the result is misery and disdain. To look at yourself and your life as an opportunity to learn and grow creates a wonderful journey of self-discovery. Controlling negative thinking is essential in order to manifest your ideal life.

Omtimes.com

True power hides within you. Self-knowledge, the development of personal will, and connection to Divine Will, allows you to have the confidence to create your life any way you choose. Imagine feeling great, having a sense of fulfillment, and being ready to create your life the way you have always wanted it to be! Whatever you are going through personally is projected outward and expressed into your relationships, your work, and your way of being. You are the cause and the effect that reflects back to you in every aspect of your life.

do not worry about how you got here, just move forward from where you are to get to where you want to be. By this, I mean where you are internally, for you manifest outside of yourself what you are on the inside. Notice that this is not about desire or manifesting what you wish for. Your internal energy must align with your outer goals if you are to come fully into your power. By understanding your current state, you can decide which aspects of yourself you wish to maintain and which you would like to discard or modify.

The Lessons to Find in Divine Energy

Intention is the primary tool we use to shape our lives. With each gesture, thought, intention, action, and interaction, we move energy. For many, the word “intention brings forth the idea of an affirmation, saying what you want over and over again until it comes true or until you start to believe it. I call this wishcraft, and

It is important to recognize where you are in this moment. Let go of the past. The past needs to stay there and not impact the now or your ability to move forward. So, learn from it. Keep the lesson and let go of the emotions associated with it. For now,

Omtimes.com

feel that while this is one way to begin the journey of goal-setting, there are more powerful methods for claiming intention. In its formal definition, intention is an anticipated outcome that guides your actions. Cause and effect.

The Importance of Clear Intent in Energy Work There must be clear intent before moving energy in a specific direction. The desire and motivation of the originator directs the flow and texture of the energy. What manifests is dictated by intention. Intention is the key to focusing your attention and, thereby, directing the energy. Energy is directed by determining a specific goal and visualizing the attainment of that goal. The moving of the energy is what is important; the ability to direct the energy to manifest what intention and will dictates. Be clear on your moti-

vation and intent in your interactions and in formulating your desires. Finally, if you do not know what you want, you cannot direct your energy toward it. Making the choice, understanding why you are choosing it, and tapping into the motivation behind it serves to direct energy in a laser-focused way. The accumulation and specific release of energy is the key to manifestation of a vision. How to Give the Benefit of the Doubt Without Getting Screwed by Arien Smith

Giving the Benefit of the Doubt? Providing people the benefit of the doubt is an important part of living compassionately, spiritually, and mindfully. Yet, those of us who actively provide this often find ourselves tricked, lied to, and taken advantage of. Discovering a way to balance this compassion with selfpreservation is important. Omtimes.com

If we are taken advantage of repeatedly, we are almost certainly going to feel our compassion towards all people wane. We could become distrusting, withdrawn, and even hurtful towards others, assuming they are just waiting to hurt us back. For these reasons and many more, actively preventing others from walking over us and our kindness is vital. It is an act of self-love to take care of ourselves in this way. It is also an act of love towards others when we preserve the ability to remain kind.

Step 1: Knowing Where to Draw the Line The first step in providing the benefit of the doubt without being taken advantage of is by knowing where our limits lie. A healthy part of any relationship is to have clearly defined limits. Where we draw the line may vary on an individual basis. But, reflecting on what is an automatic cut-off, what damages the relationship, and what is just a minor mistake, helps us understand how to address conflicts when they arise. Once we know our limits, it becomes much easier to communicate them to others.

Then, if someone is aware of a huge grievance of ours and still chooses to cross that line, we can easily put up a protective boundary. We had already provided the benefit of the doubt when we initially explained the boundary. We do not need to always provide another one. Of course, we may choose to provide a second chance, depending on our relationship to the person and what we know about their situation. If they say they weren’t aware of such a boundary and we sense genuine honesty in their words, we may open a healthy discussion where we both discuss our experiences and apologize for misunderstandings. Through this conversation, we can clarify our boundaries and deepen our empathy for the other.

Step 2: Combining Empathy and Accountability Most people react harmfully out of fear, pain, or grief. When we empathize with others, we can often sense where they are coming from. We understand exactly why we should give them the benefit of the doubt. This makes it easier to discern if we want to flex our limits or keep Omtimes.com

them as a hard line. If our friend said something especially cruel, but we realize later that they had just heard their childhood friend had passed away, we might feel more forgiving.

others from taking advantage of us while providing a compassionate understanding towards others. However, these key points will help us remain closer to a healthy place of balance.

No matter what the person experienced that led them to acting in a hurtful fashion, we still have a right to hold them accountable. Even when someone is upset, it doesn’t mean it was correct for them to walk over us. It is still important to make sure they are holding themselves accountable too. If they brush off any hurts with an excuse or reason, they demonstrate that the pain we experienced because of their actions does not matter much to them. If they share they are truly apologetic and want to atone, even if they had a valid reason for lashing out, this is a great sign they are genuinely dedicated to the health of our relationship with them.

Remember, it is always our right to set a boundary and decide who is in our lives. We say how they interact with us and provide compassion as freely as we alone wish to. With an ability to honor ourselves and our needs, we make sure our joy is just as much of a priority as the happiness of those around us. Thus, we will prevent ourselves from being taken advantage of while remaining loving, giving, and filled with light.

Step 3: Taken Advantage? Be Mindful of Your Own Needs Each relationship we are in has its own nuances and each conflict will have its particular challenges. There is no one way to prevent

Still “Charmed” after All These Years by Mark Stavish

Some Extensive Charmed Viewing on Sunday Evenings It is no surprise that I write this on the Autumnal Equinox, nor that I do it as I am preparing my children for bed. Bedtime and the television show “Charmed” seem to go hand-in-hand in our

Omtimes.com

household. It started fourteen years ago, when my eldest son, Luke, was still an infant. On Sunday evenings, his mother would visit her parents, and I would stay with him and feed him. Soon after, he would fall asleep and - as any parent of a newborn knows - you must never, ever disturb a sleeping child. So there I was, sitting upright in bed, stuck with a sleeping baby on my lap. My only other “companion” a television with one operating channel...and the only show on at the time was Charmed. Maybe it is because the charm of Charmed. It is not just comprised of “babes, boobs, and THE book” (and a great soundtrack). The writers got it right. They wrote a true faery tale that, in the end, “they lived happily ever after.” Over eight years and 178 episodes from 1998 to 2006, we got the see the Halliwell clan battle not only their inner and outer demons, but ours as well. They were - are - true archetypes come to life on the small screen. It is no surprise ten years after

it ceased production that it remains one of the top watched shows on Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming video-ondemand providers.

A Truly Charmed Production at Its Height Prue, Piper, Phoebe, (as well as, later on, their step-sister Paige) - and, from time to time, “hot mommy” Patti or their grandmother Penny coming back from the astral - helped us reconcile our basic desires and drives to simply be happy. Assisted by their mortal friends and lovers, as well as angelic and demonic ones, despite the unrealness of the show, it was very much a real and important part of a generation of viewers. This includes those who secretly or not so secretly identified with, or (like “Billie,” their apprentice in the last season) wanted to be, a member of the Halliwell family. Production of Charmed occurred when the Neo-Pagan and Wiccan movements were at their height. Television provided it either directly or indirectly

Omtimes.com

with some of the best shows ever written - Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel looked at the supernatural, the trials of life, and the seemingly distant “sky daddy” (as creator Josh Whedon referred to God) in a dark and almost hopeless light. The television show Supernatural successfully picked up on this same theme and, while it provided its viewers with a peppering of very funny and occasional “feel good” episodes, these latter were the exception and not the norm. In Charmed, even when the episode ends with the death of eldest sister Prue, or Piper and Leo in marriage counseling, we extract hope and meaning without resorting to sugarcoating the problems. While the obligatory poke at “the powers that be” occurred across the lifespan of the series, the writers avoided turning the show into a soapbox for issues of the day. They also avoided “jumping the shark,” or staying around too long as a show, when the magic was long gone, the way that too many great

Omtimes.com

shows have done. No, they kept it, strangely, identifiable ...even for me.

“I am Leo...” In the 1990s and early 2000s, I was a regular presenter at several of the better-known conventions that appealed to the Neo-Pagan, Wiccan, and magickal sort of folks. Given my background, scholarly approach, and (as I have been told) seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of things metaphysical, it was common to refer to me as Buffy’s librarian mentor, “Giles.” A few even changed it to “Dumbledore” or “Snape” when Harry Potter began to get traction in the popular culture. All this namecalling was all in good sport, and meant as a compliment, really. However, few seemed to see out of all the media archetypes popular with “magic folk” which character I really was, and who in many ways I still am: Leo Wyatt. It is no surprise that my sons will occasionally refer to their

mother as “Piper.” My wife Andrea has many of the same qualities: motherliness and worry, attention to detail, and a habit of yelling up the stairs when she wants someone rather than going to get them. While she does not freeze us as Piper was prone to do, I am sure she wishes she could. Or, maybe it happens and we just don’t know it. So, in many ways I am Leo Wyatt - just not as handy with a hammer.

More Than the Usual Faery Tale While academics and psychotherapists extracted meaning from Charmed by simply looking at it through the narrow eyes of a post-modern socio-political perspective of female heroes, that view is less important than many would like to believe. On close examination, we see the fundamental message was not of young women coming of age. No, that was the backdrop. The fundamental message was,

as child psychologist Bruno Bettelheim stated in The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Faery Tales: …that a struggle against severe difficulties in life is unavoidable, is an intrinsic part of human existence - but that if one does not shy away, but steadfastly meets unexpected and often unjust hardships, one masters all obstacles and at the end emerges victorious. The story themes touched on perseverance, personal victory and individuation along with the bonds born of struggle, and the often-hidden price of helping others. These are lessons all our side characters - Kyle Brody, Victor Bennett (the Sister’s father), Chris and Wyatt Halliwell, Detective Darryl Morris, and everyone’s favorite demon lover, Cole Turner - in turn also come to realize.

Relating to the Characters is a Charmed Story of Success It is all so simple really. For me,

the totality of the powerful appeal of Charmed, and its unique status in television history, is found in this statement by Bettelheim: “The unrealistic nature of these tales… is an important device, because it makes obvious that the fairy tales’ concern is not useful information about the external world, but the inner process taking place in an individual.” Or, as he puts it more simply, “The child intuitively comprehends that although these stories are unreal, they are not untrue ...” A part of us, our “inner child” so to speak, recognizes the fundamental truth behind these adventures. Everyone knows someone like one of the Sisters: the overachieving and perfectionistic older sibling of Prue; the dreamy wandercum-idealist of Phoebe; the cares-too-much worrier in Piper; and even the chipper and enthusiastic Paige. But it is also the supporting characters that make the show and life what

they are. As in life, we can easily take these supporting characters for granted.

Insight into the SelfEmployed, and Other Gems Like Leo, being a “stay-at-home dad” has its benefits, but also its drawbacks. No matter what Political Correctness or the feminist movement says, in the end, other see you as something “less than” those men who have a more clearly defined and stated career that others can see. This includes friends and relatives as well, as seen in the series. Despite taking a number of years authoring nearly twenty books published in over nine languages, some of the people closest to me find it hard to accept that I am a writer and publishing consultant to many experienced and first time authors. Self-employment is something (not unlike magic for many in the Halliwell universe) outside their framework. Burnout from saving the world one too many times

is more a reality than some think. It is easy to lose your enthusiasm and compassion, like Piper. We yell at God-the heavens, the Elders, whoever--to get their asses down here and start doing some heavy lifting. While I haven’t saved the world (at least not to my knowledge...), helping one more “innocent” or “victim” at the expense of oneself and one’s family takes a tremendous toll. Simply ask any social worker, police officer, or therapist, and you will quickly know what I mean; particularly when that job involves easing or preventing the suffering of others. Like Leo and the Sisters, I eventually learned that utopian dreams are often totalitarian nightmares in reality. This is true even if brought on by avatars from on high. So, I eventually grew up enough to give up my utopian fantasies and to accept life as it is. Then there is the hard lesson of over-identifying with what

one does, and mistaking it for what we are. Prue learns this on the day of Piper and Leo’s wedding. This is when Phoebe tells her that her identification with being a witch is destroying her. How often I have seen this in religious circles of all kinds, and in Wiccan and Neo-Pagan ones, in particular.

A Few Fan Favorite Episodes to Consider So now, as my children grow up, I get to watch the occasional episode of Charmed with them at lunch time on a secret day off. Nathaniel likes “Chick Flick” (Season 2/Episode 18) when the characters in a horror movie come to life. And maybe that is it in a nutshell: we look at Charmed, or whatever our favorite television show or movie is, and wish that it would come to life, for us at least. Luke likes “The Wendigo” (Season 1/Episode 12), where Piper transforms into a wendigo. Wendigo is a werewolf-like creature that

bears the wonderfully telling title in the French broadcast of “Metamorphoses” or “Transformations.” “Witchstock” (Season 6/ Episode 11) is among my favorite episodes. Here we get a glimpse into the Halliwells past during the hippie days of San Francisco. We see how Penny transforms from the idealistic, tie-dye wearing love child into a formidable vanquisher of demons. After all, transformation is what life and magic are all about.

Character Roles and Relationship Themes Abound Yet while many enjoy the “power girl” mythos, they lose sight of one fact. Each of the Sisters ends up in a conventional relationship with very typical gender roles. Each wants and gets her Alpha Male. Phoebe gets a supernatural being—Cupid, to be exact. Paige marries a parole officer. Piper of course

has Leo, who she realizes is Mr. Right all along, as he is the “everyman” of the show. He is the one who is constantly there. He is reliable, and his goodness becomes something we expect. His crises are our crises (and by that, I mean the male viewers). But he also mirrors the inability of women to see what they have and are ignoring. Piper nearly loses everything simply because she cannot stop worrying - a reality too often seen in relationships. Once Leo becomes Head of the Magic School, we see that everything in their oftenrocky marriage comes full circle. This is the main theme across all eight seasons.

In Development: Good Things Take Time So here we are: two years after I started writing this article I am finishing it. And, in part, because I heard of a planned reboot (although

it was eventually shelved). It is tempting to mess with perfection, and Charmed is truly a perfect faery tale. The Sisters’ father becomes a recurring character in later episodes. Appearances from the ghosts of their mother, Patti, and Grandmother, Penny, join him. Despite all the trials and tribulations of the Halliwell Sisters, Leo, even the Sisters’ father, everything has a happy ending.

is all I want for everyone. Like it says in the alchemical text, Splendor Solis, attributed to Salomon Trismosin, the teacher of Paracelsus: may everyone come to a “good end.”

Fairy tales are loved by the child not because the imagery he finds in them conforms to what goes on within him, but because - despite all the angry, anxious thoughts in his mind to which the fairy tale gives body and specific content these stories always result in a happy outcome, which the child cannot imagine on his own. --Bruno Bettelheim

And that is all we want out of life. Everyone wants a “Charmed Life” as it were, magical powers or not. That

So, thank you Patty, Penny, “Grams,” Prue, Piper, Phoebe, Paige, Leo (and Victor Bennett, too). Thanks for keeping me still charmed after all these years. About the Author
