Your ad campaigns have featured rockers Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper, among others. How have you seamlessly blended the threepiece-suit-for-a-rocker look? I think there is a little rock ’n’ roll in every guy. We dress a lot of business people. There is a casual elegance about the brand, and I think that’s why we can take a three-piece suit and put it with a scarf or something else to bring another element to it. You have built a clothing empire, launched a fragrance line and a record label. What’s next? There is always something in motion, but it’s to continue to raise the bar and never take anything for granted. That’s the nucleus of what makes the brand work.

Rihanna rules a fashion and beauty empire, but it’s still about the music. Back when Rihanna was simply Robyn, a stunningly gorgeous but f re s h -f a ce d t e e n f ro m B a r b a d o s who could carry a tune, she showed up at Def Jam to audition for Jay-Z and other music executives. Shaking in her white boots, white jeans and turquoise tube top from Forever 21, her wavy hair parted to the side and fresh from her first weave, the girl with no formal music or dance training made sure the hip-hop icon didn’t see her when he walked by. But when she stood before him and performed Whitney Houston’s version of “For the Love of You,” along with “The Last Time” and the Caribbean jam “Pon de Replay,” there was no mistaking her presence. “If you see somebody in a boxy suit, it means it’s not fitted well,” explains Nish de Gruiter, vice president of Suitsupply, a menswear company with 84 stores worldwide. “Your body has curves, so nothing should be square.” Custom and made-tomeasure suits are all the rage again. And as competition increases and they become more affordable, more men are choosing to have in-store tailors alter their off-the-rack suits or are going full bespoke and choosing their own fabrics, cuts, trims and linings. Ermenegildo Zegna introduced its personalized made-to-measure service, Su Misura, in the 1970s. A finished suit by Su Misura, whether a classic cut or something more progressive, reflects the personality of the wearer rather than shadowing seasonal trends. Zegna tailors will take fittings in-store or even at the customer’s home or office before guiding him through the myriad of fabric swatches — more than 500 suit fabrics and another 250 dress shirt threads. Once fitted, the client receives his suit in just a couple of weeks.

“Guys are taking care of themselves and dressing up,” says de Gruiter. “You see more people in restaurants wearing sports jackets. It’s becoming more the norm. What is the process behind your amazing prints? Each print goes through its own journey. Sometimes we have initial ideas that are spot on right away, and other times we see something that we know we need to develop into a print and build it from there. Some prints get revamped ten to twenty times until they’re perfect! We usually organize our prints by the seasons of the year, which helps us cater to the market. The most important part of the whole process however, is that there is a connection to the print. Every print exists for a reason and has its own story to tell. Why do you think people have so heavily embraced color and detail and print in their activewear? People want to feel good and be happy! It’s truly that simple. Knowing who you are and never apologizing for it allows for you to make fashion choices from the heart. The color vibrancy in our prints exudes a certain positive energy you can’t really put into words. What puts that smile on your face? Identifying that is just a part of living the Terez lifestyle.

With their vibrant prints and innovative take on athleisure style, it’s no surprise that Terez has quickly become the go-to label for off-duty style. The New York-based brand, founded by childhood friends Zara Terez Tisch and Amanda Schabes, started with handbags but quickly parlayed the popularity of the fun prints that lined the inside of the bags into a full line of women’s, girl’s and kid’s clothing. Today, Terez offers fans everything from sweatpants, tees and swimwear to, of course, their much-loved leggings. They’ve also paired up with others, creating one-ofa-kind prints for Candy Crush, the Trolls movie and Black Tap restaurants, among others.
