Gwen Stefani launched her “Just A Girl” residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino with an over-thetop arrival that featured dancers and a drum line. Here is what “The Sweet Escape” singer is saying about her show. What can fans expect from “Just A Girl”? I am at a place where I have lived long enough to write so many songs that have captured important parts of my life. I want to put on a show that represents the journey that I’ve been on and share something that’s quite nostalgic, because the songs span many different years.
“I am just a girl from Anaheim, California. I never in my wildest dreams could imagine that I’d be doing my own Vegas residency.”
Can you explain that journey? Every record and song I’ve made has captured a moment in my life, the good and the bad. The songs are little snapshots of those time periods. What type of theatrics will you bring to the stage? It’s exciting for me to be working with dancers and musicians who are so incredibly gifted. We’re going to pull everyone’s talents out and put on the best show ever. What are you looking forward to most? I love to be face-to-face with people who have supported me all these years. It’s crazy to write music about your life and have this connection with people you don’t know. To have a mixed audience from around the world coming for a weekend to watch my show and make a memory in Vegas for themselves is amazing. It’s really going to be a different energy level and I’m looking forward to that. What is your favorite song to perform? The bigger the song is and the more people it reaches, the more exciting it is to play live. “Hollaback Girl” never fails me. People get so excited.

EXPANDING THE EMPIRE Caesars Entertainment is expanding its global footprint with new hospitalityfocused resorts in Dubai and Puerto Los Cabos, Mexico. The resorts will focus on entertainment and dining. In addition, the company has agreed to purchase two Centaur gaming properties in Indiana. Here’s a closer look.
Caesars will operate its first hospitality-focused luxury resort, a two-hotel property off the coast of Dubai. Caesars Bluewaters Dubai and Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai are expected to open later this year. The two beachfront hotels will have a total of 479 rooms and offer a uniquely “Caesars experience” that will include a Caesars Beach Club Bluewaters Dubai, indoor and outdoor pools, a spa and wellness center, and 12 restaurants and bars including some of the company’s top celebrity chef concepts.
CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT TO OPEN NEW GLOBAL PROPERTIES
Two Centaur properties— Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson, Indiana, and the Indiana Grand Racing and Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana—will be added to the Total Rewards network. The properties have more than 2,000 of the latest slot machines and electronic table games, multiple dining outlets, and both live and simulcast horse racing.
The 500-room beachfront resort in Puerto Los Cabos, Mexico, will feature poolside cabanas, a 25,000-square-foot spa, three fine dining restaurants and a 40,000-square-foot convention center. Guests will also have access to two nearby golf courses. The property is expected to break ground early next year, with a grand opening in 2020.

BEER BAR OPENS AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD The Blue Moon Brewing Company has a home on the Las Vegas Strip. Beer lovers seeking a pre-show pint can now grab the company’s flagship brew, a Blue Moon Belgian White, or order one of the company’s exclusive offerings usually only available at Blue Moon’s River North brewery in Denver, Colorado. In addition to a variety of beers, the bar also features a line-up of select seasonal beer-based cocktails. Blue Moon Bar is located in front of Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

SIP, SURF, AND BE SEEN Pool season means pool parties. And this year, there are three new playgrounds getting in on the action. GO Pool Dayclub at Flamingo Las Vegas kicked off the summer with live performances by Nick Cannon, Tone Loc, Coolio, Austin Mahone and Naughty by Nature. More acts are scheduled throughout the summer. The Flamingo also hosts two weekly events— Electric Safari, an LGBT night swim every Thursday, and Cálido Beach, a Latin party every Saturday night.

GIADA DE LAURENTIIS OPENS FIRST EAST COAST EATERY Giada De Laurentiis has her first restaurant outside Las Vegas. The 180-seat restaurant, GDL Italian by Giada at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, offers indoor and outdoor seating and a menu of Californiainfluenced Italian dishes, including a large selection of antipasti, housemade pastas (such as her lemon spaghetti and vegetable Bolognese) and fresh local seafood. GDL also offers brunch on weekends and wine on tap. De Laurentiis joins Gordon Ramsay Steak and Guy Fieri’s Baltimore Kitchen + Bar at the resort. “It’s the three G’s at Horseshoe,” De Laurentiis says. “You can’t find the three G’s under one roof anywhere else.” A T L A N T I C C I T Y, N E W J E R S E Y
Influence, The POOL at The LINQ offers entertainment seven days a week, with DJs spinning from noon to 5 p.m. daily and headliners, like Shwayze, performing select Saturdays. Champagne Sundays bring all-day mimosa specials; anyone who purchases a bottle of liquor receives a free bottle of champagne. The Scene Pool Deck at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino features two pools, a Reggae Sundays party and FlowRider Wave-in-a-Box Double, where riders catch waves on bodyboards or hang ten on stand-up flowboards.
BOARDWALK BOUND GORDON RAMSAY STEAK OPENS IN ATLANTIC CITY
Building on its success, Gordon Ramsay Steak has opened inside Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. It’s Ramsay's third upscale steakhouse by that name (after locations in Las Vegas and Baltimore) and eighth restaurant at a Caesars Entertainment-owned property. The menu consists of prime beef, dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days with cuts that include a 32-ounce royal long-bone chop. The restaurant will also serve seafood along with his signature beef Wellington and sticky toffee pudding. Welcome back, Tom Cruise. Exactly 30 years after he danced with Dustin Hoffman in the now-famous Forum Tower Duplex Suite, the action star returned to Caesars Palace in April for CinemaCon. There he promoted Mission: Impossible - Fallout and was honored at the Pioneer of the Year dinner. Simply put, Cruise owned CinemaCon this year. “This has been an incredible evening. I look around the room, and there are so many friends I’ve known and spent time in the trenches with,” he told the crowd. “I grew up going to the movies and it really was my life, my escape. I learned about the world and it made me dream. I wanted to make movies since I was four years old, no lie.” Cruise’s history with Caesars Palace wasn’t lost on anyone. At the dinner, James Corden referred to Cruise’s infamous Rain Man escalator ride, joking, “Everything Tom Cruise touches turns to gold. Tom is the only person who could make riding slowly down an escalator into a Vegas casino beautiful and iconic.”

Say Cheese (cake) The CHEESECAKE FACTORY UNVEILS NEW MENU For the past eight years of his 16-year tenure at The Cheesecake Factory, Chief Culinary Officer Donald Moore has led a research and development team that crafts new dishes for the chain’s hundreds of restaurants, including the one in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. “We’re just trying to deliver memorable food,” Moore says. Moore and his team are tasked to keep the menu fresh at the chain’s 199 U.S. restaurants and 21 international outposts. “There is no better time to be a chef,” he says. “We track the trends to determine what America wants, and then we put our own twist on it.”

This fall’s new additions include crispy Brussels sprouts roasted and tossed with bacon in a maplebutter glaze; tuna poke; lasagna verde—layered spinach pasta topped with mozzarella, fontina and Parmesan cheeses, and covered with homemade tomatomushroom and marinara sauces; and pork-belly sliders. “Everybody loves sliders,” Moore says. “These are more upscale: braised pork belly, so succulent and tender.” Moore has also added cheesy egg and chicken chorizo breakfast tacos (which he says are perfect for the morning after a night on the town) and perhaps his favorite creation—cinnamon-roll pancakes on their weekend brunch menu. “It’s a fun play on a classic. It reminds people of their childhood,” he says of the buttermilk pancakes swirled with cinnamon brown sugar. “It’s over-the-top decadent.”

Furla Brings Its Luxury Italian Leather to The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace
Over the past decade, Furla has been rapidly gaining a following with fashion aficionados. The company’s success is widely attributed to creative director Fabio Fusi, who joined the brand in 2010 and introduced what has become every fashionista’s favorite handbag, the Candy Bag. Furla continues to impress with its approachable take on luxurious leather goods. With a new boutique in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, we sat down with Furla’s CEO Scott Link to find out what makes the company tick.
How has Furla found success in the U.S.? The Candy Bag helped. It was one of the first collections with our current designer Fabio Fusi. Candy changed Furla, and then Metropolis really put us on the map. How does Furla stay relevant in a social-media fast-fashion culture? Instead of just doing four collections a year, we’re trying to infuse newness every month. We launched the Furla Society, which will continue to evolve. We love the idea of the characters and bags intermingling. Explain the Furla Society? It’s about inclusive luxury—a campaign everyone can feel a part of. A playfulness centering around how the bags have a life of their own. We love it, because we believe that a bag is an expression of who you are and how you want to be seen in the world.

Why open a boutique in the Forum Shops? Las Vegas is the crossroads of the world. We thought it was the perfect place to introduce the new Furla. What’s the buzz around the men’s line—Furla Zeus? We launched it in a very serious way about a year ago. We aren’t doing basic, boring workbags. These have personality and character. Tell us about the Fall Collection? Fall is centered on strong women interpreted through sports. There is a nod to rock climbing, fencing, ice skating and boxing. Some hardware resembles rock-climbing hooks, and the beautiful silver mesh on some bags represents fencing. We are also incorporating some high-tech fabrics such as nylon, weatherproofing and quilted down to make the bags more durable and lightweight for an active lifestyle.

This spring, two events were held at Caesars Entertainment Studios, located behind Bally’s Las Vegas. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the second annual Gears Pro Circuit Las Vegas Open returned with teams competing head-to-head in Gears of War 4 for a prize pool of $150,000. The H1Z1 Pro League, the first professional battle royale eSports league, also kicked off its season with 75 players. “The teams participating are comprised of the best battle royale players in the world,” explains Jace Hall, cochairman of Twin Galaxies. “We’re in for an action-packed first season.”
THE WALL GAMING LOUNGE The growing eSports phenomenon has led to a permanent gaming lounge at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT PERFORMING IN LAS VEGAS? I love how Vegas is the biggest stage to perform on in the whole world. We can truly be ourselves, LARGER THAN LIFE.
THIS YEAR, YOU’RE CELEBRATING 25 YEARS TOGETHER. ANY SURPRISES IN STORE FOR YOUR FANS? I think the biggest surprise is the new single we just dropped, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” It’s a fresh version from the Backstreet Boys. When you compare it to all the music on the radio now, it fits right in. It’s a new look and I think fans will lose their minds over it.
DO YOU FEEL FANS ARE JUST AS EXCITED AT YOUR CONCERTS NOW, COMPARED TO WHEN YOU STARTED? I think the fans that have been with us throughout the years are elated with what they’re seeing on that stage. At the same time, the fans that weren’t diehards in the 1990s/2000s have the opportunity to see a show like one they may have missed years ago.
WHAT SONG DO YOU ENJOY PERFORMING MOST? I love performing “Quit Playing Games With My Heart” because it never gets old. It was our first hit. It’s surprising to see how many people know that song, and it proves our fans with have been here since the beginning.
