Single-use plastic is out. Caesars Entertainment is eliminating plastic straws and stirrers from all of its U.S. properties—replacing them with eco-friendly options. Caesars estimates this will remove nearly 200 million straws per year from landfills.
CAESARS FORUM to open in 2020. Caesars Entertainment broke ground on a $375 million, 550,000square-foot conference center to be built behind The LINQ Hotel & Casino. The single-level CAESARS FORUM will feature two of the largest pillar-less ballrooms in the world and contain an outdoor plaza to be used for wellness breaks, cocktail receptions and live entertainment.

Legendary Fillmore is coming to Harrah's New Orleans. The summer of 1968 saw a small music joint called Fillmore West open in San Francisco. In its infancy, the bandbox helped launch the careers of The Doors, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and others. Since then, performers have packed Fillmore music halls in seven cities. Next up is Harrah's New Orleans. The Fillmore there will open February 15-16, 2019 with the Foo Fighters. Wrought iron gates, clapboard sidings and gas street lamps will give the 2,000-capacity venue a distinct Big Easy feel. Naturally, snacks include popcorn Creole shrimp and Louisiana hot chicken tenders. “In a city where live music abounds from street corners to the stage, The Fillmore is a perfect addition," says Regional President Dan Real.

Golfers will soon be teeing up at Topgolf in Baltimore. Tucked between the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens stadiums, Topgolf will let novices and PGA-wannabees test their skills. With micro-chipped balls instantly scoring themselves, players are free to explore the food menu and enjoy the climate-controlled hitting bays. A joint venture with the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, Topgolf will open in 2020. “We had a vision to be more than a casino,” explains Erin Chamberlin, Caesars Entertainment’s regional president and general manager. “This is the city’s next entertainment district.”

READY, SET, FLY LINQ
The biggest buzzworthy change is FLY LINQ, the first and only zipline on the Las Vegas Strip. It features 10 side-by-side ziplines capable of simultaneously launching riders from the top of a 122-foot-tall tower over The LINQ Promenade. Riders fly superhero-style or in a seated position as they travel 1,080 feet from The Strip-side tower to the base of the High Roller.

Speaking of going big, I Love Sugar will transform the promenade into a virtual candy land. The innovative 14,000-square-foot candy shop promises Instagram-worthy moments with a candy-infused Martini Bar, candy-inspired art and sculptures, and a lip-smacking Chocolate World, located on the second floor. If the original store in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is any example (it has a chandelier made of 30,000 Gummy Bears) we’re in for a show.

Further into 2019, the revolutionary Kind Heaven—a concept from Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell— promises to connect Las Vegas to the best of Asian culture, music and food. Using cutting-edge technology and Hollywood-style storytelling, Kind Heaven will virtually transport visitors to the famous street markets of Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong.

“Lollapalooza forever changed the way fans experience live entertainment and Kind Heaven will take that to the next level, mesmerizing the audience through sights, sounds and deliciously exotic smells,” Farrell explained of the $100 million project. Meanwhile, there are changes inside The LINQ Hotel & Casino as well. Opening in time for football season, The Book is a sports lover’s dream with 87 televisions and a dozen “fan caves.” These living room spaces— available by reservation—come with Xboxes, virtual reality goggles, and bottle service. The Book also features a self-pouring beer wall with 24 brews on tap. Pair a beer with one of 10 different varieties of chicken wings from The Book’s “indoor food truck,” Sticky Chicken.

GWEN STEFANI ROCKIN’ LAS VEGAS WITH A SHOW CHRONICLING HER LIFE
Gwen Stefani didn’t exactly find music. Music found her. Describing her childhood growing up in Anaheim, California, she recalls going to bluegrass festivals and hearing folk music playing in the house. But it wasn’t until her early teens that she developed a real ear, and love, of music. As the dominoes fell, it was the singing and storytelling of The Sound of Music, the sexy brashness of Blondie’s Debbie Harry, and a push from her older brother Eric (who formed the band No Doubt and enlisted her to sing), that propelled her into music. “I never really dreamed of being a singer as a kid,” Stefani admits. “I was trying to figure out who I was.”
You can credit Debbie Harry for raising her curiosity. Stefani even covers the Blondie hit “The Tide is High” in her Las Vegas show. “She was everywhere,” Stefani recalls. “She was just one of those people ahead of her time. She was so dope, so beautiful, so talented. She was everything you hoped you could be. And she was rapping. I was like, ‘What?’ She was a really big influence.” As for sampling the yodeling from The Sound of Music on “Wind It Up,” it was a tougher sell to co-writer Pharrell Williams. She debuted the mashup on a runway for her L.A.M.B. fashion line. “It was my dream to have that sampled in one of my songs,” Stefani says. “Pharrell was like, ‘No way!’
He didn’t like it. He couldn’t relate, but he let me keep it.”
VIVA LAS VEGAS Stefani’s decision to star in Las Vegas was one of opportunity. Prior to her “Truth” tour in 2016, she took seven years off to raise her three sons. Living in Los Angeles, it’s an easy commute to fly in for her “Just A Girl” residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. It’s what drew her back to the stage. “How do I continue to perform, but not go on tour?” she asks herself. “Once I had kids and they started school, I couldn’t take them out. The only time to tour was in the summer, and it’s unfair to them, so I stopped. I feel like I don’t have to do it

anymore, but once I get up there I’m like, ‘This is me. This is what I do.’ It’s a way to be both a parent and still perform.”
BUILDING A RESIDENCY “The energy is different in Vegas,” Stefani says. “For me, it was how do I boil everything down into a show that is going to tell my story.” And for those who don’t think it’s physical performing, it is. Stefani admits it was one of her biggest challenges. “It’s the hardest show I’ve ever done. The stage is so big. It’s like being an athlete. There is no way to cheat it. You have to go full-blown every night,” she says, minutes after completing her morning cardio. “It’s like a marathon, but it’s so rewarding.

SHE’S JUST A GIRL Stefani prides herself on being a songwriter. It was, after all, why she got into music in the first place. It was her way of expressing herself. It was how she got through the awkwardness of adolescence. So naturally, her lyrics directly relate to her life. She even addresses it during a costume change in her show saying, “Songwriting is what helped me get my identity and my confidence, and helped me to think I have any value at all in this world. Being able to write my feelings in songs shocked me. I didn’t know I had that in me.”
Her 25-song, five-costume change “Just A Girl” residency at Planet’s Zappos Theater is basically the Stefani story—the soundtrack of her heartfelt journey from the groves of Orange County to the neon of Las Vegas. From loves found to loves lost, Stefani has held little back. “Every song has captured a moment in my life— the good, and the bad. The songs are little snapshots of those time periods.” Many of her songs, (“Don’t Speak,” “Sunday Morning,” “Underneath it All” and “I Used to Love You”), chronicle the ups-anddowns of her rocky relationships. It’s a subject she addresses during her show.

“My own love life experience wasn’t what I thought it would be. And I feel like I had so much love to give inside me. But I was unlucky in love, which has been a blessing because I’ve been able to write about that, and share that, and have this incredibly blessed musical career,” she says. “When I look back at all the times my heart was broken it was always music that healed me.”

Asked whether performing these songs ever bring back those memories and emotions, Stefani answers. “We can all remember hearing a Madonna song and slow dancing,” she says with a laugh. “Music takes you right back to the very moment when you were listening to it. Now, imagine if it’s your own life,” she says. “I think, ‘How was that girl the same girl who is here right now?’ That’s why it’s emotional and draining every night. Yet, it’s therapeutic in a great way.”

“I am just a girl from Anaheim, California. I never in my wildest dreams could imagine that I’d be doing my own Vegas residency.” Perhaps the most meaningful of all her songs is the one she chose for the title of her Las Vegas show. “It wasn’t until writing ‘Just A Girl’ that I realized that the way I felt was the way that a lot of people felt,” Stefani explains. “When you’re a young girl growing up in this world you don’t necessarily think about your gender. Then during adolescence, you realize the power you have. Not only your strength, but your vulnerability. I am prey. That’s just a weird realization. A lot of girls go through it, but we don’t talk about it. It was never meant to be a feminine song. It didn’t come from a place of empowerment. It’s weird that after all these years the song didn’t go out of style. In fact, the song has more meaning now.”

MODERN HERITAGE VISIONARY DESIGNER JOHNNY COCA REDEFINES MULBERRY Three years ago, beloved British fashion powerhouse Mulberry made a bold move and hired Spanish-born designer Johnny Coca as their new creative director. His job? Reinvent the legendary brand. The result? Collections true to Mulberry tradition, mixed with the perfect amount of edge and modernity. In the everything-he-touches-is-magic hands of Coca, Mulberry is stronger than ever. Here, he talks fall trends, the brand’s future and his design process. What motivates you as a designer? I love to see how an idea, a sketch, can become a bag or a dress and be part of the wardrobe and life of a customer. It can be a long, tough process, but the results always push me forward to do better with every collection. How do you arrive at a cohesive design for a season? I’ll watch films, listen to music, go to exhibitions or sit on a terrace and watch people live their lives. It’s important to take the time to get some perspective. I always find myself sketching after. Coming from an accessories background, how different is it to approach ready-to-wear? Mulberry is loved and treasured by its customers. My three pillars have been: keep the Britishness, protect the heritage and progress with modernity. Good design, good functionality and quality materials—these are my signature values at Mulberry. I want to make things people desire.

The Fall/Winter collection has a lot of color. What inspired this? I have such a passion for color; it’s the Spanish in me. The twist on the look comes from the strength of these color combinations. You can take something very classic and make it look eccentric if you play with the right color. For me, this season was all about feathers. That 1950s boudoir was so inspiring. We created candy-pop shoes and skirts with feather detailing. The result is soft and playful. How do you define luxury? Luxury is not connected to a price, but to the attention to detail. Making sure every item is unique.

MAGICIAN CRISS ANGEL MYSTIFIES BY MARK GRAY
You can go home again. Highly acclaimed magician Criss Angel is returning to Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino with a brand-new Criss Angel MINDFREAK show. The very place where he launched his popular Mindfreak television show in 2005. “I walked on water there. It’s the most watched magic clip in history,” he explains. “I walked down the side of the building. I lit myself on fire in the back by the pool. It’s where the very first episode of Mindfreak started.”
It’s hard to argue. The showroom was renovated to include 85 different surface areas for video and projection. Additionally, there’s a 100-foot LED wall, 2,000 lights (800 move) and 145 speakers. “The audience is completely immersed in the show,” he says. “They’re not watching the show. They’re in the show.” Of the 75 illusions, Angel mixes in some of his greatest hits like his legendary levitation, but he also performs effects that have never been done. “My show is like a roller coaster,” Angel
