Inspiration

Doña Gloria instilled the love for others in her children, and in her memory, they founded FGK (The Gloria Kriete Foundation) as a way to honor her and continue her legacy.

Through her, the vision of promoting a spirit of service and solidarity among Salvadorans was born.

The Foundation

The Gloria Kriete Foundation, established in December 2004 at the initiative of Doña Gloria’s seven children, is a non-profit organization primarily created to perpetuate the memory of Doña Gloria and to instill in future generations the altruistic spirit with which she lived.

Over the past 20 years, the Gloria Kriete Foundation has impacted more than 3.2 million Salvadorans in areas such as health, education, employability, community development, entrepreneurship, technology, innovation, and the environment.

We believe that all human beings deserve the tools to fight for equal opportunities and thus change both their own living conditions and those of their surroundings.

Mission

To be a sustainable family Foundation across generations, that dreams and works towards building a more supportive society, committed to the holistic development of those in need.

Vision

To be a reference Foundation that promotes the spirit of service and solidarity, leading by example, developing its own projects and supporting organizations committed to the welfare and improvement of the Salvadoran family.

Transcending the barriers of the conventional – The legacy of Gloria

The Gloria Kriete Foundation was established primarily to perpetuate the memory of our mother and to instill in future generations the altruistic spirit with which she lived.

With profound admiration and gratitude, we commemorate twenty years of the extraordinary legacy that has been built in honor of the woman who left us the greatest lessons: “generosity,” “commitment to social justice,” and “equal opportunities.” Although she is no longer with us, her legacy continues to inspire our work.

My siblings and I knew we had to share our mother’s vision of transcending conventional barriers, firmly believing that every person deserves the opportunity to shape a better future.

We are honored that today, the impact of the Foundation stands as a living testament to her extraordinary vision: More than 3 million lives transformed, young adults who discovered their potential and have become agents of change, countless families who have found new paths toward progress, entire communities that now see a brighter future and entrepreneurs who are reshaping realities through their businesses.

Her legacy is not measured solely in numbers but in smiles regained, dreams fulfilled, and the thousands, if not millions, of lives transformed. Every success story is a tribute to her unwavering commitment to equal opportunities and her relentless determination to improve the lives of those most in need.

Gloria Ávila Kriete was an extraordinary woman who taught us that true change begins with the courage to dream big and the determination to work tirelessly to achieve those dreams. Her example continues to inspire us to carry out her mission, to keep fighting for a more equitable and prosperous El Salvador.

On this twentieth anniversary, we honor her vision, celebrate the milestones achieved, and renew our commitment to continuing her legacy. May her example continue to light the path toward a future where opportunities are within everyone’s reach. “True social transformation is born from love for our people and the firm conviction that a better tomorrow is possible for everyone.”

Thank you to everyone who has helped turn this dream into a tangible reality.

A legacy that drives us forward

As we celebrate 20 years, we recognize that our work is not just an effort of the present but the continuation of a legacy born from the conviction that sustainable development is built through structured work, long-term vision, and a genuine commitment to our community.

We have learned that the growth of an organization like this depends not only on the intention to help but also on solid processes, strategic alliances, and the ability to innovate in every action. We are guided by the conviction that real change happens when we empower talent, foster entrepreneurship, and create opportunities that sustainably transform lives.

As the second generation, we proudly take on the mission of strengthening and expanding this impact. It is not just about preserving what we have received but evolving and adapting it to new times, ensuring that it remains a driver of opportunities for El Salvador.

This legacy is not a destination but a constantly evolving journey. We know the future will bring new challenges, but also opportunities to continue building together. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to opening more doors, making a deeper impact, and inspiring those who will come after us. Because what began as a vision is now a story we continue to write, and a future we keep building with determination, passion, and a clear purpose: to impact even more Salvadorans.

A legacy that transforms lives

We celebrate 20 years of dedicated work, shared dreams, and an unbreakable bond with El Salvador. Today, we pause not only to reflect on our achievements but also to renew our vision for the future, with the conviction that together, we can continue building a tomorrow full of possibilities for our communities and future generations.

Under the theme “20 Years of Legacy,” we reaffirm our commitment to providing Salvadorans with the necessary tools to build a prosperous future for themselves. But this legacy extends beyond the impact on communities, it has also transformed the lives of those who have been part of this journey.

Over the past 20 years, FGK has not only been a driving force for change in El Salvador but also a space for personal transformation for those of us who have been part of this story. Every program we have developed is not only designed to impact our communities but also challenges us to grow, learn,

and commit to a purpose greater than ourselves. Thank you to each person who has been part of this journey, because together we have built not only a legacy, but a community of dreamers and doers.

Since 2004, we have implemented social projects in key areas such as education, health, sustainability, community participation, employability, and innovation.

Our achievements are the result of an extraordinary collective effort. Over these 20 years, we have consolidated high-impact programs that are now benchmarks in the social sector, established strategic partnerships with key players from the public, private, and academic sectors, implemented innovative systems to optimize resources, and built an exceptional team committed to excellence and creating opportunities. However, beyond statistics and institutional recognition, what truly fills us with pride is the human impact of our work. Every day, we witness how hope transforms into real opportunities for development and growth, not only for the communities we serve but also for each of us. The foundation is a home for those who believe in education, innovation, and solidarity as tools for change.

We extend our deepest gratitude to every person who has been part of this journey. Thanks to your unwavering support, for walking alongside us in building this legacy, and for making FGK a community that transforms lives. Let’s continue writing new stories and building a future full of opportunities for all.

Karla González

Class 2022 San Salvador Full Time

Oportunidades Program

Karla González, student of the Class of 2022 San Salvador Full-Time of the Oportunidades Program and an Industrial Engineering student at Dr. José Matías Delgado University, has grown and learned throughout her participation in Oportunidades. From the start of the Program, her focus was to take advantage of every opportunity and challenge presented to her, as personal growth was one of her main goals. Thanks to the vocational guidance received in Oportunidades, Karla chose a career that allowed her to develop various skills, both personal and professional. Although she was initially shy, the Program encouraged her to overcome her introversion and develop a passion for presentations and conferences, which led her to teach public speaking classes to first-year students in 2022. Once in university, she participated in the mentoring program with PBS El Salvador. During three months of coaching, Karla prepared herself to fulfill her dream of becoming a speaker, and on August 20 2024, she gave her first presentation, an experience that marked a turning point in her career. Grateful for the support of Oportunidades, Karla considers this achievement a source of pride and hopes it will inspire future generations of young adults in the Program.

Cristina Calderón Health Promoter, Prosarín Program, Ágape

For Cristina, working as a health promoter in Prosarín and visiting communities like Colonia Alvarado, Hacienda El Zope, and Los Almendros is a rewarding experience. In her work, she closely monitors children under the age of 5, tracking their weight, vaccinations, and height while also providing guidance to parents on hygiene and disease prevention, particularly gastrointestinal illnesses. Cristina also dedicates time to caring for the elderly, especially those with conditions like diabetes and hypertension, ensuring they receive proper follow-up care to improve their well-being. Cristina feels particularly satisfied with the positive impact her work has had on her patients’ health. Thanks to the support and follow-ups she provides, significant improvements have been observed, particularly in communities without nearby health units. For her, her role is not only to provide medical care but also to offer comprehensive support to those who need it most, contributing to their quality of life and access to essential services.

Saba Rolín Class 2014

Oportunidades Program

Saba currently works in the textile sector for a company with a presence in Asia, America, and the Caribbean. Thanks to the support of the Gloria Kriete Foundation (FGK), she was able to study industrial engineering, a path that initially presented challenges, as she had no prior experience in the field. However, in 2017, she secured a job in a metalworking company, where she began gaining experience and took on key responsibilities as a management assistant, being the only woman in a predominantly male department. With the support of her boss and family, she was able to continue her studies and advance professionally while juggling work and education. Despite the difficulties brought by the pandemic in 2020, she did not give up on her dreams and after a year of working in the textile sector, she achieved a promotion to team leader in the purchasing department. In 2025, Saba graduates as an Industrial Engineer and aims to continue growing professionally to reach a leadership position in the future, always focused on the importance of working with dedication and staying true to her dreams.

Antonio, founder of SmartBill, has created a free electronic invoicing application to support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses. His platform allows invoicing from any device and provides metrics to diagnose business performance. Additionally, SmartBill is committed to environmental health, having eliminated up to 2.5 tons of paper through electronic invoicing. In 2024, Antonio participated in the FGK incubator, a process he considers crucial to the development of his business. During his time in the incubator, he learned valuable lessons, one of the most important being the significance of listening to customers. This feedback has been essential in improving and adapting the application to the real needs of entrepreneurs. Thanks to this process, Antonio has gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by users, enabling him to optimize the tool and offer even more effective solutions.

Testimonials

Yukio Ogawa

Class of 2024 SO SAT (Phase 1)

Yukio grew up in a multicultural household with minimal emotional connection, where his parents provided only the necessities for survival without showing affection or recognition for his achievements. Despite this lack of support, he focused on his studies, built selfconfidence during high school, avoided bullying, and pursued hobbies like drawing. His life took a significant turn when he joined the Oportunidades Program, where he learned to value himself, understand his “flaws” as unique qualities, and gain confidence through mentorship and close friendships. This growth culminated in his graduation as valedictorian, with a 9.9 GPA in Oportunidades and a 9.8 at his school. He has now secured a Higher Education Scholarship at Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA) to study Computer Engineering—a dream made possible thanks to the guidance of his educators and the support of people he now considers true friends.

Karen Ramos

Karen Ramos, from the Class of 2019 FT, is a clear example of how the Oportunidades Program makes a difference in a person’s life. Through this support, she learned to persevere and never give up, even when her goals seemed distant. As a student abroad, she faced many challenges, but through hard work and dedication, she graduated summa cum laude in Business Administration with a specialization in International Business. She received a scholarship to study at Keiser University Latin American Campus, and after four years of constant effort, she completed her degree. Karen acknowledges that without the Oportunidades Program, she would not be the person she is today. That support was crucial in helping her believe in herself and face challenges with confidence. Today, she continues to look forward, knowing that while the path is not always easy, goals can be achieved with effort and support.

Daniel Torres, Class 2020 SS FT, transformed his life with the Oportunidades Program, which allowed him to overcome financial difficulties and continue his education. From ninth grade through university, he received financial support and participated in workshops that fostered his development. As Minister of Communications in the student government, he discovered his passion for visual arts and decided to study graphic design. Although he was introverted, the Program helped him gain confidence and social skills. His hard work earned him a scholarship at Universidad Don Bosco, and Oportunidades extended its support for an additional year, enabling him to complete his degree. Today, as a Regional Graphic Designer at Grupo Fertica, he is grateful to the Program for providing him not only with an education but also with values such as resilience and commitment, which continue to guide his path.

The Helping Those Who Help Program of the Gloria Kriete Foundation stands out as one of the most influential social initiatives in El Salvador. With its approach, it seeks to generate a collective impact for social development, engaging key sectors in solving various challenges, including education, healthcare, access to clean water, food security, infrastructure, and environmental protection. This initiative directs its funds toward three strategic areas: NGOs, Social Entrepreneurship, and Community Development. Additionally, the program has implemented a training component that supports community projects and social enterprises. This training component aims to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem, foster the growth of social business models, and develop community leaders, strengthening their skills in managing social projects.

Testimonials

Karla Aguirre

Coordinator of the Women builders of Alternatives Program (CINDE)

Karla Aguirre, from the CINDE Association, led a project that participated in the 2024 edition and won first place in the NGO category with a $100,000 prize. She highlights CINDE’s over 30 years of work in child protection and support for women who have historically been limited to caregiving roles at home. Through the Women builders of Alternatives program, CINDE empowers mothers and caregivers in districts such as Soyapango, Mejicanos, Ayutuxtepeque, and Ciudad Delgado. The initiative focuses on informal sector women entrepreneurs aged 18 to 60, helping improve their economic situation.

The project aims to support 250 women entrepreneurs by providing seed capital, equipment, and technical training through vocational courses. It also focuses on developing self-care and self-esteem skills, helping these women enhance their quality of life and strengthen their businesses, creating new opportunities for them.

José Orellana

Winner of $15,000 (Community Development Category, ADESCOPAZYD)

The project started in 2009 with the goal of creating a community with the necessary resources for a dignified life. At that time, the community lacked proper access, potable water, a communal house, and many other basic needs. In 2011, José took on the role of president of ADESCO. With guidance from PADECOMS, he learned about the Helping Those Who Help Program. Through an application for support, the community was able to make significant progress in its projects. One of the most notable achievements was winning a $15,000 grant, an amount they had not expected, for Caserío Las Raíces. These funds enabled the improvement of the community’s access road, covering 308 meters of stone paving and 200 meters of curbing. Thanks to the support from the Gloria Kriete Foundation and other institutions, this development has been crucial for the community and has strengthened the commitment to continue supporting this ADESCO in its mission to improve the quality of life for its residents.

The Gloria Kriete Foundation is committed to using technology to reduce social gaps. By collaborating with leading international partners, it has become a local leader in representing various digital platforms. This led to the creation of the Tu Chance Program, which promotes digital innovation by offering free platforms to enhance learning, professional development, and employability for Salvadorans. The program fosters the use of digital tools through innovation and personal transformation, providing Salvadorans with opportunities and free platforms that enhance education, career growth, and job prospects.
