rs. Mary Joy Teruel, Benedictine Institute of Learning (BIL)’s Guidance Counselor promoted communication- listening and understanding the reasons and concerns of students during the Parent’s Orientation on June 29, 2019. During her talk, Teruel discussed to the parents that listening to their children is important so to avoid pressuring them. “Sometimes not our plans should be followed. Sometimes we should also listen to them because it will only cause pressure and misunderstandings”, Teruel asserted. Furthermore, she also encouraged parents to give more time to their children so that they would be able to know and understand them more. “I encourage you, parents, to spend more time with your kids. Prolong for Quality Education I

n an announcement stated by Sir Noel Abad on June 29, classes for school year 2019-2020 are rescheduled on July 29 from July 8 to prepare the teachers through extensive training in improving the learning process of the students.

Though the advisory is unexpected, parents agreed that it is better to have quality education provided by the teachers of Benedictine Institute of Learning (BIL) through upgrading and improving the curriculum further. One process is through curriculum mapping where the old curriculum is evaluated to come up with step-by-step procedures to meet the objectives and solve the problems that were present in previous ways of teaching. During the past years, there are lots of performance tasks that are given by teachers in their specific subjects. Through curriculum mapping, different subjects are combined to evaluate one performance task. This way, it is more efficient for the students to work and easier for the teachers in grading the students’

performance. BIL also aims to provide inclusive education so that no

students are left behind. In an interview with Ma’am Cielo Valenzuela, the administrators of BIL are working on a therapy center in the school that offers help to students with special needs. It is clear that BIL is preparing well for the upcoming school year through improving the curriculum that would benefit not just the Benedictinians but also the teachers. Each procedure is evaluated and assessed to ensure that quality education is provided to the students. Parents of BIL understood the reasons of rescheduling the start of the classes, some even cheered and clapped because of the good news. Because of the reasons in prolonging the vacation, waiting for the official start of the classes is indeed worth it. #

Mrs. Joy Teruel encouraged the parents to help and participate in guiding the students to the right direction. # Judina Hilaro

Paying Precise Attention to Parent’s Problems

A

nnouncements have been made. Regulations have been reviewed. Concerns have been raised. Another normal BIL orientation has passed and parents who attended questioned the staffs and service of the school. Usually, the concerned were parents of transferees. Complaints such as broken RFID, inoperable BIL portal, additional student medical history to the school’s website, inefficient school service system and more has been brought up. What was remarkable in this orientation is the stepping up of a parent of two high school Benedictinians, assuring the worried guardians.

Mrs. Belinda Marquez, who has been a certified Bene Mom for 6 years, eased the anxious minds of the atendees by sharing her experience with how the institution addressed her concerns. “Masisigurado ko sa inyo na hindi napuputol ang komunikasyon ng staffs [staff] at ng magulang. Nasa mabuting kalagayan ang mga anak natin,” the mother reassured. Then, she deservingly received a handful of claps and a sighing relief that their beloved children will be treated pleasantly and will be educated in a safe and healthy environment. Undeniably, it’s normal for them to be concerned but it’s relieving to see that the Bene parents soothe and unite each other, giving one a pat in the back that everything will go okay. Announcements were noted, regulations have been put to heart, and concerns were assured. #
